282: Apex Legends World Cup (Round of 32) + WC Draft & Voicemails

Speaker 1: Everyone, Welcome back to another edition of the Grab My

Banner Podcast, Episode number two hundred and eighty two, and

Ladies and Gentlemen, I just dropped my phone and also

I sound like shit, and that is because my allergies

are fucking me. Side way, it has been a tough

last two days. I can't breathe, I can't sleep, my

mouth is dry, head hurts. We're living now, We're living

out here, living, We're living out here. For episode two

eighty two, Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a brand new

split to the season with all new maps. The characters

have been changed, and everything has been going kind of insane.

The one thing we can one hundred percent say is

that Seer is a lot.

Speaker 2: He's too much.

Speaker 1: There's too much going on. There's too much going on.

There needs to be probably a change here, probably a nerve.

Will they do it a week before Land, that's the question.

Speaker 2: I hope.

Speaker 1: Will they do it a week before Land, that is

the question. I doubt they do it because Sear can

be banned, so if he gets too strong, don't just

span him. But uh yeah, As far as for all

of us who aren't pros, who are just playing ranked

or playing casual Sear is absolutely ridiculous. Menis, He's a menace.

He destroys lives. Seems like there's always one of those

legends every single time. It just sucks that it's him again.

It sucks that it's him again. Like I'd be fine

if he never came back ever. Yeah, Like he's just

one of those characters where it's like, broch, you probably

should not have added him. Just never come back, just

just never do it.

Speaker 3: The worst thing, too, is one thing I've always hated

about sere Metas is you just can't rat.

Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, you can't rat, so they just find you.

Speaker 3: And yeah, especially with the new update as of today,

if you're.

Speaker 2: In diamond or higher you can only solo C.

Speaker 1: That's the second big part of news. They are trying

some new things out with ranked. I don't know if

this is gonna work, but this is their new idea.

Uh yeah, if you're diamond or higher you can only SOLOQ.

So no longer playing with friends to try and get

to masters, no doing any of that kind of stuff.

It is strictly and purely solo. Kind of sucks. I think,

I think masters up. I get it, but.

Speaker 4: It's that it's really not. It's not that crazy hard

to get to. I think a lot of your put

your mind to it.

Speaker 1: Yeah, I think a lot of friend groups have the idea,

let's try to all make it to masters. I don't

think friend groups are saying, hey, let's all try to

make it to diamond, you know, like I feel like

it's not. I feel like masters they play throughout the

split and you'll probably get there if you're like of

the skill level that you need to be. Now, to

be fair, it could be a cool thing to get

to Diamond with your boys if they would change the

rank system to actually reflect that and make it the

difficult part to get to diamond second highest strength. Yeah,

but they don't highest drength coman, they don't do that

every other video game. It's actually pretty difficult to get

to any sort of diamond level. Apex is not that way.

Speaker 5: Really.

Speaker 3: Diamond used to be the top five percent of players.

Now it's like the top like twenty seven percent of.

Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, which is just not That's just not really

a good way to and and it's their own fault

because then when they do switch it and players no

longer can get to Diamond, they're saying it's too difficult,

it's too hard. It's like, no, that's how all games are. Yeah,

it's like it shouldn't be all I just play and

get there. Yeah exactly. But yeah, So that is basically

all the news surrounding APEX right now. Other than one

final thing. There is a rumored Cyberpunk collab. Oh really

coming very very soon Legend Skins, Weapon Skins. Kind of

excited for that. Cool. That would be actually kind of interesting.

I got to play Cyberpunk before my first PC fried

itself time.

Speaker 4: It's gonna be the anime really collab with because of

the characters.

Speaker 1: Mostly. Yeah, I didn't even know I had an anime. Yeah, Netflix,

I'd be really good, is it? Yeah, I'll have to

check that out. It's a great show. I hate it.

We are in the middle of one of the world

it's most prestigious events. The World Cup is going on

right now, ladies and gentlemen, and the ship's going wild.

If you don't watch the World Cup, I highly suggest

you do because there's just a lot of action. If

you don't like soccer but you like sports, I suggest

given this one a try, because these teams are a

lot more evened out than I would say like club

soccer is, and it's kind of fun to watch, so

I would say give it a shot. But the boys

have been locked into the World Cup. They've been watching

as much as we possibly can. Also, USA has actually

been doing decent up to this point, which has been,

you know, not surprising. Yeah, it's a little rare, so

it's kind of fun to enjoy. It's fun to watch.

But we've got some Apex Legend theme themed eight World

Cup items coming up your way in just the second. First,

we've got a World Cup draft that we're gonna do,

and second we have created the Apex Legends World Cup

Character Bash, where it's going to be eleven on eleven

legends randomized in a bracket form, and every week as

the World Cup goes on, we are also gonna do

our So right now in the World Cup it is

the round of thirty two, we are doing the round

of thirty two. So, for instance, if it was let's

just say seer versus Octane eleven verse eleven playing soccer.

Who wins that matchup and who's gonna move on to

the next round, So be prepared for that. But first, boys,

we've got ourselves an Apex Legends World Cup Draft here, boys,

just us three. Yeah, we're gonna do a legend draft.

We're gonna be getting heavy hitters. We're gonna get some heavys.

We get some heavy hitters. And this is only going

to be four four legends, four legends. We've got four

legends here. Now Here are the parameters. Number one, which

legend is most likely to be a person shown by

the cameraman in the stands that pops up on the screen,

that instantly blows up on Twitter because they are physically attractive.

It happens every single World Cup. There's usually some person

out there. The camera shines on them. Everyd's like, holy shit,

that person's hot as hell. Then they get like a

million Instagram followers. They become an influencer for like three weeks,

everybody forgets about them, but they hold on to it.

They get sponsorships on their ig posts. That's right, Yeah,

that's number one. Number two, we've got the floppaholic, the

character that when you're watching a World Cup, or if

you're just watching soccer in general, there's always a player

who goes down a little bit too easily and then

they're writhing in pain on the floor. And then you

watch the replay and they didn't even get to nobody

even touched. And then they get right back they get

right back up after or they lay there for like

uncomfortably too long. Don't get the second the ref is like, okay,

well you have to go to the sideline and come

out of the game. Then they're like, okay, I'm good now.

Actually I'm feeling better. I'm actually I actually feel great.

I actually feel great now. Then the third parameter, it's

p k's knockouts, and this character comes to the line

and sends a ball eighteen rows into the fucking grand stand,

just just absolutely fucking flubs a PK. It misses by

a mile and they are chastised for it very heavily.

Don't go on Twitter. And lastly, the final final character

for this draft would be the character who is constantly

getting shown cards yellow red. Doesn't matter. Every time they're

on the field, they're assaulting somebody, they're headbutting someone, biting

even they are just a menace, and when they are

on the World Cup stage, they really turn it up, Enoch,

they really turn it. Don't let them be losing, yeah,

in the ninetieth do not let them be losing to

nil like Ecuador was to Mexico.

Speaker 2: They're covering their mouth and the.

Speaker 1: Crazy shit they're saying, some crazy shit. All right, boys,

those are the four picks. Let's get to rock paper sis.

and I really got to think about this one here.

So we've got I could go hot chick here, right,

there's definitely still some hot chick. There's some hot chicks,

but I feel like there's so many that I feel

like I could get past it. I'm gonna go with

my flopaholic here. I'm gonna go with Mirage. I feel

like Mirage would be a big flag actor. He's an actor,

He's for the show. He wants to be a showman,

and he, I think, is going to try and draw

the most calls possible because that's just his prerogative. That's

what he's gonna need to do to try and you know,

get it, get a little bit of an edge. He's

not the most physically imposing guy out there. I think

he'd be flopping around, writhing in pain, and then you'd

look at the replay and be like, all right, you

didn't hear your teammate touched you, so what's happening. Yeah,

all right, Chris, you got back to backs. Okay, let's see,

I'm going to take my flopper and this is a different, different,

a different look at it.

Speaker 4: I'm gonna take Ballistic because I just think he's he's

just so fucking old. Whenever he does get touched, he

thinks something is broken. That's so he hits the floor

and he's like, I need to go to the hospital.

And then like a few minutes past, he's like, wait,

I'm actually.

Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, yeah, okay, you know what, that's fair.

Speaker 4: And then I'm going to take my hot girl, just

because I just want to get the best one.

Speaker 1: And I'm gonna take Watson. That was the best one.

absolutely flubbed out. And when I think about this particular character,

I think their entire tenure in the game has been

basically fruitless. I think they could be deleted tomorrow and

nobody would really care. I don't think anybody would bat

an eye. I don't think anybody would even think to

mention it. I think the most you'd get is be like,

where did this character go? And somebody be like, oh,

they deleted her from the game, and you'd be like, oh, okay,

and that's all you would do. And for that reason,

I feel like when this character comes to the line

for the PK, she's never been in an environment with

a bunch of people, never been out there with in

a large crowd. Even the Apex games. It's like that's

the most she's been around people her whole life. And

even then, it's like, I still she has some weird

things with her, and I think there's enough shitting, there's

enough shit in her pants that would make it to

where she would flub this kick. I'm going with vantage

here for sending the ball sky high into the second day.

I might even like, not expect her to make it

to the goal. Yeah, you might not kick it hard enough.

I could see that, which honestly would be worse if

you think about how close a PK is If the

goalie has to like walk forward to stop it from rolling.

Like if you think about your little cousins, you still

think they could get it that he's to the goalie. Yeah,

uh yeah no, this advantage is absolutely just one of

the worst. I think she and you know when you're

walking up there already full diaper, and then you shit

even more because you're like, oh my gosh, this is

the World Cup, the world and I need to make

this like these are more shit and it's just going

to be bad from starting to finish. I'm going with

vantage Kyle, you get back to backs.

Speaker 2: I think I'm gonna go with.

Speaker 3: God Man, if I don't, I feel like if I

don't pick my floppaholic, I think that they're gonna get taken.

Speaker 1: Mind you we have both.

those around. So I think she would absolutely be a

card specialist. And then finally I need my shitty PK.

use for a lot of these people, but I feel

I really want to know who you're thinking. I'm gonna

two hundred and forty characters about Sparrow being in the crowd.

Speaker 4: Unfortunately, Italy not in the world, hasn't been in the

last three World Cups, which is insane to me.

Speaker 1: They're gonna be like, look at this dumb guy. He's

It was Revenant. He's gonna murder somebody on the field

and then for my hot chick slash dude to blow

up on social media, I went with Sparrow. Chris, you

were the last one, right.

Speaker 4: So for my hot girl to blow up, we've got Watson,

she's blown up, Flopper, we have ballistic old ass p

case that sucks, Crypto he's never seen a ball in

his life. And finally most carded card specialist Ram Rampart.

Speaker 1: Round it out. Now, ladies and gents, you can go

We've got the Apex Legends World Cup bracket that we're

about to do right now. Brian is with us on

this one. He's gonna help us out with the bracket.

Then after that we'll send it on down to the

voicemails and send you guys on the rest of your week.

into the Apex Legends World Cup bracket. Now here's what

we're gonna do for this right now. If you don't

pay attention to the World Cup, it would behove you

to know that we are currently in the round of

thirty two. So after this we'll go to the round

the sixteen and the round of eight, and then you'll

get all the way down to your final winner. What

we have done, what me and the boys have cooked up.

We've put in a bracket of Apex Legends characters. But

what we're going to do, we completely randomized it. We

haven't really looked at the matchups. And what we're going

to do is we're going to look at each matchup

in the round of thirty two this week. The eleven

soccer format character verse character, so eleven of that character,

eleven of that character the other it's in soccer and

it's in soccer abilities abilities I think should be able

to work as long as they don't kill people.

Speaker 2: Yeah, so there's no killing, no killing ship like that.

Speaker 1: Uh huh.

Speaker 2: I'm kind of slows you down, but it doesn't kill you.

Speaker 1: Yeah. I think we need to set some parameters ahead

of time. Let's do this. Then I left it wide

open so we could figure this all out as we

get into it.

Speaker 8: Issues with like two legends immediately off the top of

my head. Three legends off the top of my head.

I would also say this for a character like Caustic,

we have to treat it as the amount of whatever

you have that you can use. Like the gas barrels,

it can only be for one character, right, So I

think he can throw out six barrels even though there's

eleven of them. He can steal them, throw out six barrels.

Speaker 5: Six sixty six, not sixty.

Speaker 1: Six barrels, because because otherwise that would be ridiculous. The

fans wouldn't even be able to watch. Yeah, like saying

with bank smokes, same with Bank Smokes, same with Watson fences,

like say it like she could only pull out like

one side.

Speaker 1: Let's just say it cannot be just makes it can't

be activated inside the box. Cannot be activated inside the box.

Speaker 2: So you can still be in the box. You get

pretty fire that ship sometimes. You know, I like to

stem when I'm in the box.

Speaker 1: In the box, you need a little stem in the body.

Speaker 2: Sim in the box.

Speaker 1: What Yeah, I understand what you're saying because for me personally,

I've had to sim a few times in the box. Yeah. Uh,

especially to get my ball where I need it to go.

So I get that.

was it deactivates the second you get into the box.

Because for me, a lot of times I use a

lot of things to try to like last longer inside

the box, keep my offense going in the box. The

second I'm in the box, all bets are off. Once

I'm in the box, You're I can't keep the ball

in there.

Speaker 2: Athletic skill.

Speaker 1: It's at that point it's all about your endurance in

the box. How big is the box, it's the regulation size,

population regulation, just a standard standard box, normal box, normal box.

There's nothing extra, nothing extra to the box.

Speaker 8: And also I say that's how many who don't know

how many defenders fit in the box.

Speaker 1: The grass inside or around a box is the same everywhere.

have the range to do so. But also that's not

going to do a whole lot because the goalies not

using Yeah yeah, the goalie is not using abilities anyway.

Well it's more so the stunts, so it can't react

to the kick. How long is the stun for?

Speaker 3: It's like a second, But like it's you can't use abilities.

Speaker 8: For five yeah, So the the thoughts, it's not necessarily

the ability. It's more so to the actual play of soccer.

Like imagine if a soccer player was stunned for a second,

like you can't defend for a second. That's a huge factor.

And how many tacks do Seer get? It just gets one,

just one, So Seer gets to hit one. Now the

question I would say, is it better to do the

one there or is it better to do the one

again on a defender that's you know, you're you're doing

a kick, a corner kick or something like that.

was a good tournament. And the reason why is because

going into this we did not look good at all,

ass for a while there those first two games in

the groups. The USA have always been known for playing

like very boring games, not scoring a whole lot, and

we scored four goals in our first games, two goals

in our second game, and then two goals in our

third game, and then we made it out of our group.

a lot in arguments with Brian in our group chat.

And then basically Brian was just trying to do anything

to not put chicken in his top five meats.

much anymore, so you don't get those burning hot ones

that he used to. But he still will come out

and say some Brian ship everyone. Like when when it

was Pathfinder versus whoever and he goes, who is Pathfinder playing?

and he was like he was like, oh, it's the
