Speaker 4: The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.

Speaker 1: Good morning.

Speaker 2: This is the Christian O'Connell Show. You're waking up to

Speaker 2: news that the one and only, the great Dolly Parton

Speaker 2: has passed away.

Speaker 1: Good morning, Patsy.

Speaker 7: Morning, everyone.

Speaker 1: Good morning, Rio. Good morning. And good morning, intern Pete.

Speaker 6: Good morning, everyone.

Speaker 2: Now, before we go anywhere into today's show, we have

Speaker 2: to talk about the one and only Dolly Parton.

Speaker 1: And our intern Pete, you may have done one of

Speaker 1: her last interviews.

Speaker 6: Yeah, three years ago. She was 77 at the time

Speaker 6: and she was doing a bit of press.

Speaker 1: She was..

Speaker 6: Nobody needs the Hall of Fame for something. And honestly,

Speaker 6: I'm trying to track down the audience.

Speaker 1: Sorry.

Speaker 2: What do you think it might be? I mean, it's

Speaker 2: not family fortunes. Take a wild guess.

Speaker 8: The AFL Hall of Fame. She's winning the Brownlow.

Speaker 6: Honestly, I really regret saying it like that because my

Speaker 6: sister called me at 4.02 this morning in tears.

Speaker 1: Dolly Parton was such a big.

Speaker 9: Part of our life as well.

Speaker 2: A lot of people are going to wake up this

Speaker 2: morning all over the world heartbroken.

Speaker 1: I know. It's so sad.

Speaker 2: It is sad news, but also that is, you know,

Speaker 2: to go at 80 after a life she had is

Speaker 2: an extraordinary life to celebrate. I mean, one of 12

Speaker 2: kids in real poverty, a dad, Robert, who couldn't read,

Speaker 2: And she was inspired by his story to set up

Speaker 2: that imagination library, which gives kids free books up until

Speaker 2: the age of five, a free book every month.

Speaker 9: Incredible.

Speaker 2: To over 300 million books she's given to kids around

Speaker 2: the world. And then there's the music, the queen of

Speaker 2: country music.

Speaker 1: It's incredible.

Speaker 2: Do you know, by the way, years ago I met

Speaker 2: her at a charity thing, I don't know, about 12

Speaker 2: years ago, and just incredible music. You talk about presence

Speaker 2: and charisma, just otherworldly. She wrote, Jolene, and I would

Speaker 2: always love you in the same day. People rave about

Speaker 2: the output of the Beatles, which is incredible. Donny Parton

Speaker 2: wrote two of the greatest songs ever in the same day.

Speaker 2: Has any songwriter ever had a more productive day?

Speaker 8: That's got to be the best.

Speaker 2: None of us will ever have a more productive day

Speaker 2: in our lives than Donny Parton sitting down to write Jolene,

Speaker 2: which would.

Speaker 1: Have been enough to retire for the rest of her

Speaker 1: life and never write another song. And then I Will

Speaker 1: Always Love You.

Speaker 2: And because she owned everything she ever wrote, she made

Speaker 2: about 15 to 20 million when Whitney Houston made the

Speaker 2: song bigger than she ever could.

Speaker 1: Right. Yeah.

Speaker 2: In 1974, Elvis wanted one of her songs. Colonel Tom

Speaker 2: Parker wanted 50% of the publishing royalties.

Speaker 1: She turned down The King.

Speaker 8: Legend.

Speaker 1: Just an incredible life. What was she like, Pete?

Speaker 6: Oh, look, honestly, it was over Zoom and just even

Speaker 6: that in itself to sit one-on-one with her. Obviously, you

Speaker 6: meeting her is crazy, but then I just think, I

Speaker 6: got about 10 minutes with her and she just.

Speaker 2: Look, I was playing a bit of the- You're very,

Speaker 2: very lucky. I think it doesn't matter if it's over Zoom, mate.

Speaker 2: You got to chat to one of the greats.

Speaker 6: Yeah, and do you know what?

Speaker 2: I was probably playing- Just tell me, by the way,

Speaker 2: what was her Zoom technique like? Did you have to

Speaker 2: tell her to unmute the mic or actually probably her

Speaker 2: telling you to do that? It was, you know, I

Speaker 2: can only see your forehead in turn. How old is

Speaker 2: his intern? It's a grown ass man.

Speaker 1: She would.

Speaker 10: Yeah.

Speaker 6: I think she was questioning that as well, to be fair. Um, she, uh,

Speaker 6: she had good control. I think a lot of people

Speaker 6: around her making sure it was okay, but she just gave,

Speaker 6: didn't matter who you were. She gave someone the time

Speaker 6: of day, even though I was probably being a bit

Speaker 6: of a buffoon idiot as well, you know, as, as

Speaker 6: I did as, As in to beat. But she just

Speaker 6: allowed me to sort of have the moment with her.

Speaker 6: And I was telling her about, I think it was

Speaker 6: my mum, who was a big fan of the movie

Speaker 6: Steel McNolias. And she just loved hearing stories like that.

Speaker 6: And I got her to do a few station IDs,

Speaker 6: which was like, hey.

Speaker 7: She would have loved that.

Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, that is just demeaning.

Speaker 6: I know, I know.

Speaker 8: One of the great. I thought you'd.

Speaker 2: Share some great stories rather than a lot of grubby

Speaker 2: old show you used to work on.

Speaker 1: Hey, Dolly, this is all great. Let's make it about Carl.

Speaker 3: Okay.

Speaker 1: Can you say, hi, this is Kiss. The golden microphone

Speaker 1: was on.

Speaker 6: I feel like I'm not doing tribute to her at

Speaker 6: all this morning.

Speaker 2: At first you were confused about what she was inducted

Speaker 2: to the Hall of Fame for. This might be the

Speaker 2: worst words that are said about Dolly Parton.

Speaker 6: Oh, please. No, I'm watching it on Sunrise on the

Speaker 6: left screen here.

Speaker 2: I think maybe we'll leave you to watch it on Sunrise.

Speaker 2: Maybe get up to speed with who Dolly Parton was.

Speaker 6: No, no, no. I'm a big fan, obviously.

Speaker 1: No more from Pete today about Dolly Parton.

Speaker 2: Okay, call my sister. Get your sister on. Can we

Speaker 2: speak to Kate Deppler, please?

Speaker 6: Yeah, let's get her.

Speaker 4: The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.

Speaker 2: Well, intern Pete dives onto Dolly Parton's Wikipedia page.

Speaker 6: Yep. She's a singer.

Speaker 1: Huge news.

Speaker 4: Huge.

Speaker 1: Maybe lead with that in the news, Patsy.

Speaker 2: Dolly Parton was a singer, confirm this today.

Speaker 1: Oh, no.

Speaker 2: Anyway, let's go to an actual fan now. Patsy, tell

Speaker 2: us about Dolly Parton and what she meant to you.

Speaker 3: Dolly was the original trailblazer. Dolly did so much. for

Speaker 3: women and the women's movement and unapologetically just herself. I

Speaker 3: remember I think it was an ABC America interview back

Speaker 3: in the 70s and it was a woman, mind you.

Speaker 3: I think it was Barbara Walters interviewing her.

Speaker 7: And basically saying, why do you kind of make yourself

Speaker 7: up like you do? Why do you wear wigs, you know?

Speaker 3: Why do you dress like you do? Basically calling her

Speaker 3: a bit of a drag queen. And Dolly said, because

Speaker 3: I like it. I don't do this for anyone else.

Speaker 3: This is for me.

Speaker 7: She was just so authentic and never.

Speaker 3: Made excuses for, you know, didn't want to please anyone else.

Speaker 3: She was just pleasing herself and running her own race.

Speaker 3: And I loved her for that. And 9 to 5

Speaker 3: was all about women going out into the workforce and,

Speaker 3: you know, finding their own way and not being stuck

Speaker 3: at home. Her story is just so amazing. Growing up

Speaker 3: in a two-room house with so many children and they

Speaker 3: were so poor. And look at what she managed to do.

Speaker 3: And I think she was just, she was such, I

Speaker 3: don't know, a.

Speaker 7: Beacon of light.

Speaker 3: She was always happy. She was always joyful. The songs

Speaker 3: were joyful. I thought she was just amazing and just

Speaker 3: a trailblazer. And what a celebration. I didn't feel so

Speaker 3: much sadness when I woke up this morning to the news.

Speaker 3: I actually felt warm inside because of what she's brought

Speaker 3: to the world. There'll never be another Dolly. And, you know,

Speaker 3: apparently they've put away or she had put away in

Speaker 3: a vault a secret song that will be released in

Speaker 3: about 2045. She was on Jimmy Fallon.

Speaker 1: You're kidding.

Speaker 3: Yeah, a couple of years back. And she said, I've

Speaker 3: done a secret song. I don't know what they'll do

Speaker 3: with it, but you'll all hear.

Speaker 11: It in 2045.

Speaker 7: Wow.

Speaker 6: I'm so annoyed we've got to wait until 2045.

Speaker 1: We're going to break into that vault. He would only

Speaker 1: just realise who she was by then.

Speaker 7: Well, hopefully they will. A legacy all the way on.

Speaker 1: I see what beautiful words you said, honestly.

Speaker 7: I just adore her.

Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think what's going to happen is, I

Speaker 2: imagine over the next couple of days, next couple of weeks,

Speaker 2: the whole world is going to be reminded about the

Speaker 2: impact and who she really was. Not just this kind

Speaker 2: of country and western sort of caricature, but just what,

Speaker 2: before there was Taylor Swift owning all her copyright, she

Speaker 2: was doing it when women were told to be a

Speaker 2: certain way and to look a certain way as well,

Speaker 2: which is what you just spoke to about the Bravo

Speaker 2: Waters interview as well and how hard it would have

Speaker 2: been to a young woman desperately trying to make it

Speaker 2: in showbiz and music as well in a male-dominated industry

Speaker 2: to hang on to her you-ness. It's something incredible for

Speaker 2: young women around the world to be inspired.

Speaker 1: By that, I think.

Speaker 4: Yep.

Speaker 3: We always watch Dolly or listen to Dolly. I've got

Speaker 3: a 15-year-old daughter. I have very intentionally done that because

Speaker 3: Dolly was doing it before everyone else was. And You know,

Speaker 3: she lost her husband, Carl, just 18 months ago.

Speaker 1: My God, they're married for like 60 odd years. I know, forever.

Speaker 7: You know, apparently he never went to any of her concerts.

Speaker 3: She was on record as saying, what I did for

Speaker 3: my professional life was very different to my private life.

Speaker 3: She liked to keep them both very separate.

Speaker 7: And he never ever saw her.

Speaker 1: That's rare these days.

Speaker 7: Yeah, before life.

Speaker 1: We see too much. It all just bleeds, doesn't it?

Speaker 12: No.

Speaker 1: It's constantly, everything's content.

Speaker 13: Yeah.

Speaker 2: What's that smug thing on Netflix at the moment where,

Speaker 2: You were raving about it. And I gave up watching

Speaker 2: after 30 seconds. Very rich, successful people gloating about their

Speaker 2: big mansions. Yes.

Speaker 1: Oh, why didn't you come in? I'm like, do you

Speaker 1: know what? Good for you, but keep it to yourself.

Speaker 13: Yeah.

Speaker 4: Yes.

Speaker 7: No, not humble at all.

Speaker 1: But no, what a true one-off she was, Patsy.

Speaker 7: Yeah, I loved her. And that story about Elvis, how

Speaker 7: funny is that?

Speaker 6: How incredible.

Speaker 7: The king of rock and roll. There was no one bigger.

Speaker 1: 1974, she says no. She turns the king down.

Speaker 7: She turns the king down.

Speaker 6: She had some balls.

Speaker 1: That's a power ball to move that in. Yeah, I

Speaker 1: love that. It is incredible.

Speaker 2: I reckon there'd be, I reckon in the next couple

Speaker 2: of years, there'd be the definitive iconic, real story of

Speaker 2: her life.

Speaker 4: Yeah, the biopic.

Speaker 1: What a great life story.

Speaker 2: And as you read back into it, reminded of it today,

Speaker 2: it's a life to celebrate. Living to 80 and living

Speaker 2: that well. Not just that she made music that cheered

Speaker 2: millions of people up as well, but also the imagination library.

Speaker 2: Giving books to young kids that might not have been well,

Speaker 2: their families well enough to afford them. Over 300 million books,

Speaker 2: giving back as well and helping other kids to dream

Speaker 2: big as well, like she was allowed to as well.

Speaker 1: It's an incredible story.

Speaker 2: In about half an hour's time, I'm going to play Jolene.

Speaker 2: And a lot of people always think, because it sounds

Speaker 2: like a song that could have been in a Tarantino movie. No,

Speaker 2: it sounds sinister. But actually, it's a very innocent song.

Speaker 2: It's actually one of those innocent love songs, but it

Speaker 2: doesn't play like that or feel like it. Jolene was

Speaker 2: just written about, there was this, I think in most relationships,

Speaker 2: when you've been married a long time, there's always someone

Speaker 2: that has an affection. Not a serious one, but a

Speaker 2: kind of affection for your partner. Jolene was about this

Speaker 2: bank teller who fancied Dolly's husband called Carl. And I

Speaker 2: think she knew that he enjoyed the flirtatious behavior every

Speaker 2: time they were going down to the bank.

Speaker 1: Jolene is about her. I didn't know that.

Speaker 2: It's just about that. And Dolly knew and it was okay.

Speaker 2: She knew that Carl enjoyed a bit of flirtatious behavior

Speaker 2: and stuff at the local bank. That's what it's about.

Speaker 2: It sounds like this menacing brooding song. Almost Dolly has

Speaker 2: done away with her. Where is Jolene, Dolly? Is that

Speaker 2: in the vault as well? So we'll play that later

Speaker 2: on this morning.

Speaker 4: Radio podcast.

Speaker 2: Oh, we've just gone through the vaults. And these are

Speaker 2: not nice radio vaults. So you're waking up to, it

Speaker 2: is sad news, but it's also a life well lived.

Speaker 2: The one and only Dolly Parton has passed away. And

Speaker 2: just an extraordinary, extraordinary life. And intern Pete, now on

Speaker 2: this show, has been lucky enough to.

Speaker 1: Actually interview her.

Speaker 2: Which is, you know, what a great thing to actually

Speaker 2: have said that you've met Dolly Parton and got some

Speaker 2: time with her.

Speaker 6: Incredible experience. And just, you know, the aura of the

Speaker 6: woman that she was. And I really mean that because

Speaker 6: she is just an amazing, she had such an impact.

Speaker 6: And for me, it was, yeah, Steel McNullis, the movie,

Speaker 6: like one of the most iconic movies of all time.

Speaker 2: I mean, she did sell over 100 million albums, but

Speaker 2: you still want to keep going back to Steel Magnolias.

Speaker 2: It feels like the only bit of Wikipedia you've got

Speaker 2: to is Steel Magnolias and you haven't scrolled down yet

Speaker 2: or gone to the second page.

Speaker 6: Can I just share this real story? And I want

Speaker 6: to share it about my mother, really, because Sanity Music

Speaker 6: had a special on where you could buy three DVDs

Speaker 6: for $ 20. And I remember my mum calling me.

Speaker 1: She's like, guess what?

Speaker 6: You can get three DVDs for 20 bucks. I was like, oh,

Speaker 6: that's great.

Speaker 8: What did you get?

Speaker 6: She goes, I got three copies of Steel McNally. It's

Speaker 6: the movie because she just loves Dolly Parton so much.

Speaker 6: I said, what do you need three copies for? She said, well,

Speaker 6: in case I wear out one, I've got a second

Speaker 6: and then I've got a third. She just loved Dolly

Speaker 6: Parton so much in that movie. And of course, everything

Speaker 6: that she did, she just brought so much joy, right?

Speaker 6: And then I got this chance to interview, and I.

Speaker 1: Don't know what... I've got some of the audio. I

Speaker 1: don't know what you've found.

Speaker 2: All right, this is something. Have a listen to this, then.

Speaker 2: This is a beat here where Rudley used his demand

Speaker 2: to know her age.

Speaker 6: This is your 49th studio album, and there is no

Speaker 6: retiring for Dolly.

Speaker 9: Parton, correct?

Speaker 4: That's correct. No retiring.

Speaker 14: I'll just have to fall dead on the spot, but

Speaker 14: I'll be going for as long as I can.

Speaker 9: Yeah, for sure.

Speaker 1: How old are you?

Speaker 9: Sorry, I didn't catch how old you.

Speaker 1: Were, Dolly.

Speaker 4: Oh, I'm 77.

Speaker 1: You're actually just so rude.

Speaker 8: Just look it up, mate.

Speaker 2: You get 10 or 15 minutes. There's so much to

Speaker 2: talk to about going, how old are you?

Speaker 1: You're right. A cursory Google search to find that out.

Speaker 13: Oh, no.

Speaker 6: I feel terrible.

Speaker 1: It gets better.

Speaker 6: Congratulations to your induction of the Hall of Fame as well, Dolly.

Speaker 9: You must be super proud of that.

Speaker 7: Yeah, I am proud of that.

Speaker 14: I wasn't expecting that, and I didn't think I had

Speaker 14: deserved it, but they convinced me that I did, so

Speaker 14: that's why I did the rock album.

Speaker 9: That's so good.

Speaker 1: To prove that I did.

Speaker 9: Sorry, I cut you off there, Jolly. I'm very annoying.

Speaker 9: I apologise.

Speaker 6: Oh, God, that's awful. Well, listen.

Speaker 9: Patsy, I can see your face.

Speaker 6: I know you're disgusted.

Speaker 1: I just wish Patsy had got that time.

Speaker 6: Oh, God, I would have loved to have interviewed her.

Speaker 1: I would love to have heard that. That would have

Speaker 1: been some chat. Guys, there's more.

Speaker 2: Oh, what?

Speaker 1: Yeah.

Speaker 9: Now, look, could I at least do the start of

Speaker 9: Jolene with you together? Just a little bit. I know

Speaker 9: we're on Skype.

Speaker 1: How many coffees did you have before this?

Speaker 9: I was very hard down.

Speaker 2: Twitchy kind of like sequined jacket sort of game show host.

Speaker 6: I reckon I honestly, I reckon I had about five

Speaker 6: minutes notice said you're interviewing Dolly Parton.

Speaker 1: Get out of it.

Speaker 2: This is, oh what, and then you found the eye

Speaker 2: dents all ready to go. No way you got five minutes.

Speaker 2: I smell BS already. Already you're spilling a narrative here.

Speaker 1: I just found out, you know. Anyway, let's have a

Speaker 1: listen to this.

Speaker 9: Now look, now would I at least do the start

Speaker 9: of Jolene with you together? Just a little bit. I

Speaker 9: know we're on Skype. That's all I'm asking if that's okay.

Speaker 4: What are we doing?

Speaker 8: Oh, can I just sing Jolene with you?

Speaker 15: Oh, I'm sorry.

Speaker 13: You have such an accent, you know.

Speaker 6: You're very down under.

Speaker 1: You want to do it?

Speaker 9: Is that okay?

Speaker 16: Jolene.

Speaker 1: Yeah. Oh, yeah. Jolene.

Speaker 14: Jolene.

Speaker 9: Jolene. I've got the music. I've got the music. Hang on.

Speaker 1: Okay.

Speaker 10: Jolene.

Speaker 1: Jolene.

Speaker 2: Jolene.

Speaker 1: Jolene.

Speaker 8: Oh, my God.

Speaker 9: I can't sing Jolene. It's very embarrassing.

Speaker 14: Is it the delay or is it just that you

Speaker 14: can't sing a lick?

Speaker 1: The last line goes to Dolly.

Speaker 4: All right, we'll leave it there. The Christian O'Connell Show.

Speaker 4: Go on. Podcast.

Speaker 2: It's the Christian O'Connell Show. You can share your thoughts,

Speaker 2: what Dolly Parton meant to you.

Speaker 1: 0-4-7-5-0-3-1-0-4-3. Good morning, Christian.

Speaker 2: If you're going to play Jolene this morning, please play

Speaker 2: the live version she did with Miley Cyrus.

Speaker 1: It is incredible. That's from Rose Caretta. Morning, Rose. Great audio.

Speaker 1: Thank you very much. This is from Lee.

Speaker 2: Good morning, Christian. As usually happens when a celebrity passes,

Speaker 2: you're sad initially. You want to wish to be with

Speaker 2: the family. But when I woke up to the news

Speaker 2: this morning at 5 a.m., this one hit differently. I've

Speaker 2: been quite affected by Dolly Parton's passing. She's one of

Speaker 2: the few people in the world you can say is

Speaker 2: truly a great person as well. She did so much,

Speaker 2: not just her big career, and she never expected anything

Speaker 2: in return. Quite a rare kind of celebrity. That's from Lee. Christian,

Speaker 2: please also play Islands in the Stream. That comes from

Speaker 2: Paul as well. Hey, listen, we've got until nine o'clock.

Speaker 2: We've got plenty of songs to play. We'll definitely get

Speaker 2: to those as well. But please, if you want to

Speaker 2: say anything today about Dolly Parton, I would love to

Speaker 2: share them.

Speaker 1: 0475031043. That's it. That's another thing.

Speaker 2: I remember watching a movie years ago where Dolly Parton

Speaker 2: plays a radio host.

Speaker 1: It just came to me.

Speaker 2: Will anyone be able to, without Googling it, tell me

Speaker 2: what the movie was called?

Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure that she was.

Speaker 2: In a movie where she plays a radio host.

Speaker 1: I also remember the music on it.

Speaker 2: It was an amazing soundtrack. Please let me know what

Speaker 2: was that movie. All right, extra time on the time waste.

Speaker 2: So this week, it is book week. So we're doing

Speaker 2: book bands. Out for grabs. The best we get in

Speaker 2: the next sort of five or ten minutes, you get

Speaker 1: Yeah, Donaldson's Dairy.

Speaker 8: That cat.

Speaker 10: Yes.

Speaker 7: Oh, Audrey hated that page. Oh, I used to love that.

Speaker 5: Scarface.

Speaker 1: And the old man and the CNC music factory.

Speaker 8: Silver plus.

Speaker 1: All right, Rio, what have you got then? Book bands.

Speaker 8: Virginia Wolfmother.

Speaker 1: Oh, very good. Gold.

Speaker 8: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Gallaghers.

Speaker 1: That's very, very good. Another gold.

Speaker 12: And we just played this song. You cannot start a

Speaker 12: snazzle without a snazzle spark. The Hoos are in their slippers.

Speaker 12: They're dancing in the dark.

Speaker 1: Take a bow. That is great work. All right. What

Speaker 2: going to be called Straight Talk. There's probably a podcast,

Speaker 2: or a billion of them right now, called Straight Talk.

Speaker 2: It feels like a talkback feature. Call Ben Fordham now.

Speaker 2: Straight Talk.

Speaker 4: The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.

Speaker 1: Dolly Pamphlet and this person Benjamin puts in brackets, a tribute.

Speaker 1: What a beautiful, touching tribute. Benjamin, there's so many big

Speaker 1: tributes coming in right now.

Speaker 8: First Pete's station items.

Speaker 1: No, that's an untribute. Mariah Harry-McClary.

Speaker 8: Gold!

Speaker 11: Oh, excuse me, that.

Speaker 2: Was really tickling me. We're down to three. Mariah Harry-McClary

Speaker 2: All right, who is winning the best toaster in the world?

Speaker 2: Thanks to Harvey Norman.

Speaker 12: Anthony with the amazing Mariah Harry McCleary.

Speaker 1: Of course it has to be. It sounds rude. It isn't,

Speaker 1: but it sounds rude.

Speaker 2: I've got a horrible feeling that's the only reason he's

Speaker 2: winning that toaster. Anyway, sometimes it's best not to ask

Speaker 2: on this show.

Speaker 4: The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.

Speaker 2: In the same day, Jolly Parton wrote at her kitchen,

Speaker 2: tiny little kitchen table. She used to write a lot

Speaker 2: of her music. She wrote Jolene. And I would always

Speaker 2: love you.

Speaker 1: In the same day.

Speaker 2: Incredible life. Patsy, they've got to make a movie of

Speaker 2: her life.

Speaker 1: Do you not think? Oh, absolutely. I would watch that.

Speaker 1: Who plays her?

Speaker 7: That's a really good question.

Speaker 1: Reese Witherspoon.

Speaker 13: Margot.

Speaker 1: Oh, Reese, yes. I think Reese Witherspoon would be great.

Speaker 7: And she's got form after doing, you know, June Carter.

Speaker 7: So she can sing. She can hold a tune.

Speaker 8: What about Miley Cyrus? I think she'd be good.

Speaker 1: Well, that's her goddaughter, isn't it?

Speaker 8: True, yes.

Speaker 1: Actually, Miley would be great. Although, you know how Hollywood just..

Speaker 2: They get it wrong sometimes, don't they? They'd go for

Speaker 2: something like Sabrina Carpenter. We need the kids' dollars to

Speaker 2: go and see this. What about Nicole Kidman?

Speaker 4: No.

Speaker 1: I don't see it.

Speaker 8: She's too tall for a star.

Speaker 1: Danny DeVito.

Speaker 6: She's too tall.

Speaker 7: No, how dare you?

Speaker 1: Oh, I'm just forming a long list at the moment.

Speaker 8: Shorties.

Speaker 10: Yes.

Speaker 7: DeVito. Kylie Minogue, even, because she is, you know, like

Speaker 7: her stature.

Speaker 6: She's tiny.

Speaker 1: The movie has to be called I Will Always Love You.

Speaker 13: Yes.

Speaker 1: Huge. Yep. I had a musical as well.

Speaker 12: Okay.

Speaker 2: CD-ROM.

Speaker 7: Well, they did 9 to 5, the musical, recently, didn't they?

Speaker 1: They did, yeah.

Speaker 2: All right, so today we're going to ask you to

Speaker 2: rate your week so far. Everything is rated and reviewed

Speaker 2: these days online out of five. So are you having

Speaker 2: a five-star week so far? We're at our half points

Speaker 2: as well. So is it 2.5? Is it 3? Rate

Speaker 2: your week so far, and then a couple lines of

Speaker 2: review as well of your week so far. Send it

Speaker 2: to us. 0-4-7-5-0-3-1-0-4-3. Patsy, how was your week so far.

Speaker 4: Out of five?

Speaker 7: I'm going to say five out of five.

Speaker 3: Five out of five because Audrey, our 15-year-old daughter.

Speaker 7: Did her very first shift last night. She's got her

Speaker 7: very first casual job.

Speaker 1: Maccas.

Speaker 6: Wow. Last night.

Speaker 3: Yes, did her last orientation and stuff. And it was

Speaker 3: so weird dropping her off because it's like, oh, off

Speaker 3: she goes.

Speaker 7: Off you fly, birdie. and actually said to myself.

Speaker 8: Well, you kicked her out. Well, you're earning your $ 12

Speaker 8: an hour now.

Speaker 2: Mum, mum, mum, mum, before you drive off, only $ 15.

Speaker 6: Sign that lease off, you go.

Speaker 1: I'm not Donny Potter.

Speaker 8: I've not changed the lock.

Speaker 1: See you, kiddo.

Speaker 3: No, but it was really the weirdest feeling because it

Speaker 3: felt like a major step forward in her progress. And

Speaker 3: in our sort of, I don't know, our family dynamic,

Speaker 3: it's like, wow, this is like you could feel the

Speaker 3: enormity of, Of last month.

Speaker 1: Yeah, there are these little mini moments, Baz.

Speaker 6: Yes.

Speaker 1: Mini milestones.

Speaker 2: The bigger ones, like 18 and 21 and finishing year 12,

Speaker 2: starting university.

Speaker 1: But those other ones, like their first jobs as well.

Speaker 1: Did you get some photos?

Speaker 7: We did when she got back in her uniform.

Speaker 1: They hate it, don't they?

Speaker 7: Oh, she did, yeah. But she was so excited.

Speaker 1: You look back at all those photos now, they just

Speaker 1: got angry faces.

Speaker 7: She's a teenager. We got the school photo back the

Speaker 7: other week. Jushi looks paid off.

Speaker 1: I get it.

Speaker 2: By 15, you've had enough of this. And also, you know,

Speaker 2: they're growing up in an age of filters. Can we

Speaker 2: take another one? Let me just check it. Let me

Speaker 2: pinch and zoom, pinch and zoom, pinch and zoom. That

Speaker 2: school photo is the worst photo you'll ever have.

Speaker 1: I reckon you sit.

Speaker 2: Brad Pitt in front of that school photographer. Here, look

Speaker 2: as patient and ill as the rest of us.

Speaker 7: I said to her, would it hurt you to smile?

Speaker 6: Anyway, so as I was.

Speaker 3: Driving off, I thought, I actually said out loud to myself, well,

Speaker 3: this is what's meant to happen.

Speaker 7: Like this is, this is, this is good. This is

Speaker 7: not a bad thing.

Speaker 1: Enjoy it, Pat.

Speaker 7: This is, this is what life is all about. And

Speaker 7: it means we're doing a good job.

Speaker 1: And what's she, does she know what she's, is she

Speaker 1: on the fryer? What's she doing at Mac? Is she

Speaker 1: doing fries?

Speaker 7: Right out front. Director of first impressions, of course. So, yeah,

Speaker 7: she's really excited.

Speaker 1: Said like a true tiger. That's my daughter. Not out

Speaker 1: the back on the fly like those other odd-looking kids.

Speaker 8: But anyway, can't all be front of house.

Speaker 1: My daughter, she's a maitre d' at Macca's.

Speaker 7: You know what, though? The discounts are pretty good.

Speaker 1: Do you have a reservation?

Speaker 8: Discount?

Speaker 1: Yeah, the thing I'm most excited about. Oh, share, share, share, share.

Speaker 3: No, well, apparently you get quite a good discount at Kmart,

Speaker 3: so I'm a bit excited about that.

Speaker 6: Oh, really?

Speaker 8: Macca's workers get what, like, cops do at a cafe?

Speaker 16: Yes.

Speaker 8: Thanks for your service.

Speaker 1: It's such a great initiative, though.

Speaker 3: Like, they have staff movie nights, and I tell you what,

Speaker 3: they do it brilliantly.

Speaker 1: But that's Rorty.

Speaker 2: It feels like you're going to be going there.

Speaker 1: And there's free popcorn. No, I don't. No, my daughter's

Speaker 1: in bed.

Speaker 3: But, yeah, so major, major thing in our house this week.

Speaker 3: So it is a five out of five.

Speaker 1: Oh, that's brilliant. And she was just, you know, brilliant.

Speaker 7: Really just bursting at the seams when she came out.

Speaker 7: She was absolutely thrilled.

Speaker 2: You wait till they get their first sort of pay

Speaker 2: thing and stuff like that.

Speaker 1: Enjoy it all, Patsy. It's great.

Speaker 2: All right, we can take a break. Are you having

Speaker 2: a five-star week?

Speaker 1: One star? Two star? Let us know and why.

Speaker 4: The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.

Speaker 1: Christian, my week so far, three out of five. Would

Speaker 1: have been a.

Speaker 2: Five out of five, but I've had to deduct a

Speaker 2: point off for each kid.

Speaker 1: They're driving me nuts. That's what you call... Honest text messages.

Speaker 7: Not even school holidays yet.

Speaker 1: I know. Christian and the team. This is from Carl. Morning, Carl.

Speaker 2: I was listening to the show this morning. I heard

Speaker 2: a great misheard lyric for you. I just want to

Speaker 2: share it now for Monday. Electric blue by Ice House.

Speaker 2: The lyrics are in too deep. What I'm hearing is,

Speaker 2: you know you, mate, intern Pete.

Speaker 1: Oh, okay.

Speaker 2: And listen, Ice House fans, we have five golden tickets

Speaker 2: to an exclusive Ice House experience. At Sydney's iconic Fleet

Speaker 2: Steps at Mrs. McCoy's Point, today's winning song is Street Cafe.

Speaker 2: When you hear it, 13, 55, 22 to get on

Speaker 2: the guest list.

Speaker 1: Rio, rate your week. What is it out of five?

Speaker 8: I am 2.5 stars right down the middle.

Speaker 1: What's happened?

Speaker 12: Well, on one hand, discovered a big problem. On the

Speaker 12: other hand, solved a big problem. So yesterday afternoon, I

Speaker 12: figured out that for almost a year now, I've been

Speaker 12: boiling our clothes in the washing machine. because I've noticed

Speaker 12: we moved into a new house almost a year ago,

Speaker 12: and I didn't join the dots, but I've noticed I

Speaker 12: didn't feel like I've been putting on a lot of weight,

Speaker 12: but I felt like all of our clothes, from our

Speaker 12: T-shirts to our socks, had just been getting a little

Speaker 12: bit smaller and smaller and smaller. And I've actually been

Speaker 12: going on a bit of a diet recently.

Speaker 1: Because of this?

Speaker 12: Yeah, I asked Mac what she'd been doing for her

Speaker 12: wedding so I could do the same.

Speaker 1: Mainly just eating and living on popcorn. It's called the

Speaker 1: kiddie diet. It ain't great.

Speaker 12: And then I noticed yesterday after 10 months, the drain

Speaker 12: hose that goes from the washing machine into the sink,

Speaker 12: I put my hands in and I was like, oh,

Speaker 12: it's hot.

Speaker 8: Like it's really, really hot. And then I thought, hmm,

Speaker 8: cause I've.

Speaker 12: Put it on a cold wash and I always put

Speaker 12: it on a cold wash, but what I've realized is.

Speaker 12: When we put the washing machines in 10 months ago,

Speaker 12: I've put the hot in the cold.

Speaker 1: And the hitting.

Speaker 15: No.

Speaker 1: Oh, my God. I wonder if anyone's ever done that before.

Speaker 1: You've been shrinking your clothes.

Speaker 8: We're shrinking our clothes, not even in the dryer.

Speaker 1: And developing body dysmorphia. No wonder you're hitting the gym

Speaker 1: so hard.

Speaker 8: And the crazy thing is, for a year..

Speaker 2: You turned down a Macca's breakfast last week and I

Speaker 2: just thought you were ill.

Speaker 8: No, it's because of my shrinking teeth.

Speaker 12: The dumbest part of it is for years, I've been

Speaker 12: taking our clothes out of the washing machine and going,

Speaker 12: they're quite hot.

Speaker 8: Double degree, huh? And when I open the door, it's

Speaker 8: like he opened the door of a dishwasher.

Speaker 1: Steam coming out.

Speaker 8: I've never gone, oh, maybe I've made a mistake. I've

Speaker 8: just gone, that's weird.

Speaker 7: Your water bill must be atrocious.

Speaker 8: The gas bill, the whole water bill is through the roof, Patsy.

Speaker 1: It's crazy. Oh, my God. Great discovery, though. Yes. Well

Speaker 1: saved and well diagnosed. Yeah.

Speaker 2: That's high-level adulting, I think. I would say I'm having

Speaker 2: a five-star week. Guys, I'm very, very proud, actually. My

Speaker 2: daughter sent me a photo from Sydney the other day

Speaker 2: and the big dimmocks they've got there. And my book

Speaker 2: on script has made it onto the Father's Day table.

Speaker 8: Oh, yes.

Speaker 1: Thanks, guys.

Speaker 2: She sent me a photo and, like, kids find it

Speaker 2: hard to give praise back.

Speaker 1: And all I got was a photo of that. And

Speaker 1: I was like, wow. And all she said was that, wow.

Speaker 2: Would have killed you, Ruby, to write a few words

Speaker 2: as in wow, proud of you, puppy.

Speaker 1: Rather than wow. Wow, there's two up in two interpretations. Really?

Speaker 10: Really?

Speaker 9: Wow.

Speaker 1: Someone at head office is going to get it.

Speaker 2: How is this next to Atomic Habits by James Clear?

Speaker 1: Old mate's book. Plays Mondo Rock for a living. How

Speaker 1: is he here?

Speaker 4: Wow.

Speaker 1: As in wow.

Speaker 8: The state of the world right now.

Speaker 1: Father's Day table.

Speaker 8: Was it exclamation mark wow?

Speaker 1: No, just wow.

Speaker 6: Ooh. Yeah.

Speaker 1: Only one way to interpret that. Hey, but wow.

Speaker 13: Wow.

Speaker 6: Hey, everybody needs.

Speaker 1: More than a wow. The Father's Day table. Treat your

Speaker 1: dad right with a copy of Unscript.

Speaker 4: The Christian O'Connell Show.

Speaker 1: Go on.

Speaker 2: Podcast.

Speaker 4: Podcast.

Speaker 2: Christian, I just heard what Rio did to his washing machine.

Speaker 2: I did the same thing, but the hose on the

Speaker 2: wrong tap. Fried my motherboard.

Speaker 1: Trust me. Cost me a machine.

Speaker 2: Can the title of today's show be called Fried My Motherboard?

Speaker 2: It sounds like something else, doesn't it? Hey, how did

Speaker 2: that date go? Fried my motherboard.

Speaker 8: Needless to say.

Speaker 1: Wrong hose. Okay, so this weekend... Focus. Sing.

Speaker 2: This weekend, Intern Pete is running the Sydney Mountain, and

Speaker 2: we are with him every single step.

Speaker 1: Of the way.

Speaker 9: Thank you, everyone.

Speaker 1: Let me get into the production, man.

Speaker 9: Sorry.

Speaker 1: And he hasn't got back to you about joining that

Speaker 1: streaming service. Have you checked your voicemail?

Speaker 4: No.

Speaker 13: Okay.

Speaker 1: Intern Pete this weekend is.

Speaker 2: Running the Sydney Marathon and we are with him every step.

Speaker 1: Of the way. Literally.

Speaker 6: And I think I've overcommitted, by the way. All of

Speaker 6: my friends said to me yesterday, did you really say

Speaker 6: on national radio that you would do it in three

Speaker 6: hours and 30 minutes? They're all laughing at me going,

Speaker 6: you know that's not possible for me because three hours

Speaker 6: and 50 minutes is my record, but that was.

Speaker 1: The fastest I've ever run. Three hours and 50 is

Speaker 1: still quick.

Speaker 6: It is quick, but I mentally think I can get

Speaker 6: three hours and 30, but none of my.

Speaker 2: Friends think I can do it. If you think you

Speaker 2: can do it, I reckon you could do it. You're

Speaker 2: a very determined guy.

Speaker 1: I am.

Speaker 6: I want to win.

Speaker 1: Not win the whole thing. I think we discussed that yesterday.

Speaker 1: I feel like we should, you know. Manage expectations here. Hey,

Speaker 1: this is spoiler alert. You don't win it. I know.

Speaker 6: And again, my nerves are through the roof already. And

Speaker 6: we're like, you know, five days out. I'm already so

Speaker 6: worked up about this. Like, I'm really building up.

Speaker 1: And what are the nerves? What are the nerves? Tell

Speaker 1: me about that. What are they about?

Speaker 6: The nerves are just like the buildup.

Speaker 1: It's the biggest.

Speaker 6: I mean, I've done it before, but it's still the

Speaker 6: biggest achievement that I've kind of done from a physical

Speaker 6: point of view. And it's just something I never thought

Speaker 6: I'd actually do.

Speaker 1: Yeah, it's an incredible achievement to do it once.

Speaker 6: I think over the years I've talked about running and

Speaker 6: park runs were the original things that I got into

Speaker 6: because mum and her sisters, they were all doing park runs,

Speaker 6: sort of walking around Frankston and Albert Park in Melbourne

Speaker 6: and all that sort of stuff and then And then

Speaker 6: I got into it from there. And then I just

Speaker 6: found the love of it because it just.

Speaker 13: Oh, wow.

Speaker 1: I didn't know that was the reason.

Speaker 12: Yeah.

Speaker 6: Running and walking and just getting outside fixes everything. Fixes

Speaker 6: your headspace.

Speaker 1: Fixes your health. Everything. Born to move.

Speaker 12: Yeah.

Speaker 6: And so when I did the first marathon, I just,

Speaker 6: I couldn't believe it.

Speaker 1: I just wanted to do more and more and more.

Speaker 6: And I don't want to do like, you know, a

Speaker 6: triathlon or anything like that afterwards. I just want to

Speaker 6: keep doing marathons because it just brings me so much joy.

Speaker 6: I really do love it.

Speaker 1: And I.

Speaker 6: I think, you know, because we're nominating Ks for all

Speaker 6: these listeners, I'd like to put one.

Speaker 9: Down for Dolly, if that's okay. Dolly Parton today.

Speaker 1: If she could have one of those.

Speaker 14: Number one?

Speaker 1: She number one? Start right?

Speaker 6: Yep, number one.

Speaker 1: She can have number one. No, not number one. Too crass.

Speaker 1: Hold on, mate. It was it, wasn't it?

Speaker 6: No, I was just checking because some scout group wanted

Speaker 6: number one as well.

Speaker 1: Well, they have number two.

Speaker 6: They can have number two.

Speaker 1: What about 77?

Speaker 7: Because in your interview she was..

Speaker 1: How many cases did he do it? Thanks, Paddy.

Speaker 2: Listen, if he does 77, it'll be in your news.

Speaker 2: A deranged man. It's Monday morning, a deranged man. It's

Speaker 2: still running the city. He's doing his third lap. He's

Speaker 2: just putting up in Mildura. He's going to go left

Speaker 2: turn at the Opera House.

Speaker 6: I know, I know. When you talk about nerves, this

Speaker 6: is what's happening. Basically, my headspace is through the roof

Speaker 6: at the moment because I'm just so..

Speaker 1: Do you know what? Listen, you've got to run it

Speaker 1: to enjoy it.

Speaker 2: You've obviously got a deep love of running. It's really

Speaker 2: sort of improved your life. Run because you enjoy doing it, mate.

Speaker 2: Don't get in your head about the clock and the

Speaker 2: time and stuff like that. and you're constantly looking at you.

Speaker 2: The best chance you've got of doing a good time

Speaker 2: anyway is the more you enjoy it and the joy

Speaker 2: of it.

Speaker 6: It's an incredible.

Speaker 2: Thing to do, and everyone's going to be cheering. You know,

Speaker 2: 200,000 people are going to be along that incredible iconic

Speaker 2: route as well, cheering strangers on.

Speaker 1: It's a lovely thing. Same with the London Mouth.

Speaker 2: You know, so many people just come out, even if

Speaker 2: they didn't know anyone in it, just to cheer strangers on,

Speaker 2: doing something really incredible. So enjoy being part of something

Speaker 2: really special again in your life, Pete, as well, this weekend.

Speaker 6: Thanks so much. I just saw a Qantas flight come

Speaker 6: through the sky then. Honestly, there's people flying in from.

Speaker 1: All over the world.

Speaker 2: Is he to be obsessed with every flight coming into Sydney?

Speaker 2: There's got to be people in Asics runners, like, limbering up.

Speaker 4: No, honestly.

Speaker 8: I just saw another plane come through.

Speaker 1: Maybe I'm... Through the sky.

Speaker 8: It's like, they come all the time anyway.

Speaker 6: I mean, yeah.

Speaker 1: He's probably just got a load of this boring businessman

Speaker 1: for some meetings.

Speaker 6: It's a scheduled flight, I know.

Speaker 2: What's your personal time you're hoping to be doing? To

Speaker 2: get to the airport?

Speaker 1: Get an Uber? To find the Uber there? I know,

Speaker 1: I know.

Speaker 6: But anyway, just welcome everyone if you're arriving for the

Speaker 6: Sydney Marathon.

Speaker 8: Wave to a plane today.

Speaker 1: And also..

Speaker 2: Third show this week, Pete is using his airtime to

Speaker 2: welcome people from around the world.

Speaker 1: Because that's what you do.

Speaker 2: When you arrive in a new city, you go, what's

Speaker 2: the local radio station.

Speaker 1: Here that will welcome me?

Speaker 6: Absolutely.

Speaker 1: Please tune into Barcelona's version of Gold FM, could you?

Speaker 2: I want to hear the weather guy welcome me to

Speaker 2: this great city.

Speaker 4: The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.

Speaker 2: Intern Pete, this weekend, we wanted the 40,000 good souls

Speaker 2: who are doing the Sydney Mountain. We want to cheer

Speaker 2: him along the way. So this is where we need

Speaker 2: your help, Bright Siders. We want to dedicate each of

Speaker 2: the 42 Ks to one of you. So if you

Speaker 2: want to sponsor a K, so Pete is going to

Speaker 2: say for each K that he's about to undergo, he's

Speaker 2: going to say your name, where you're from. There might

Speaker 2: be a reason why you want a particular K on

Speaker 2: the 42.

Speaker 1: Let us know.

Speaker 2: Lines are open now, 13, 55, 22, or you can

Speaker 2: text me 0475 031043.

Speaker 15: Hey, Pete, this is Jules. I'm doing the 9km walk

Speaker 15: for Lifeline for Out of the Shadows on the 5th

Speaker 15: of September. So at 9km, I figure I could motivate you,

Speaker 15: you could motivate me.

Speaker 13: All the best.

Speaker 15: Thanks so much.

Speaker 1: Oh, Jules, good luck for your walk as well. Pete,

Speaker 1: you got that one down?

Speaker 12: Jules?

Speaker 6: Absolutely.

Speaker 9: 5th of September.

Speaker 1: Absolutely. Good luck, Jules. No, not for the dedication. It's Jules,

Speaker 1: the 9th K1.

Speaker 2: Oh, yep.

Speaker 1: Yeah, like you said, the nerves are very... Three more

Speaker 1: shows to go. He's got it. Hey, Pete, it's Robin here.

Speaker 15: I'd love to request a memory of my grandson, Brodie,

Speaker 15: for Kilometer 28.

Speaker 7: Thank you.

Speaker 15: Wish you the best of luck.

Speaker 1: Oh, that's beautiful. You can definitely do that. You can

Speaker 1: have that one.

Speaker 4: The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.

Speaker 2: You can have a K of the 42. Intern Pete's

Speaker 2: got a run this weekend in Sunday's Sydney Mouthing. Dedicated

Speaker 2: to you. I'm actually going to know we want to dedicate, obviously,

Speaker 2: to the great Dolly Parton.

Speaker 1: She should do K's nine to five. That's good.

Speaker 6: Oh, smart.

Speaker 10: Love that.

Speaker 2: Sonia wants K number seven. Saying it's on you, Sonia,

Speaker 2: to push him along. Jules wants nine. K for the

Speaker 2: lifeline of Melbourne. She's doing that to motivate him. And

Speaker 2: he wants to motivate her. 28 Ks for Robin for

Speaker 2: her grandson. Maggie thinks K38 is going to be the

Speaker 2: hardest one.

Speaker 1: She's Irish. She called yesterday. Do you remember? She's done 10.

Speaker 4: Yes.

Speaker 2: Shannon wants K23. Yesterday was her twin's 23rd birthday. Christian,

Speaker 2: can we sponsor K13 for Splat Our Cat?

Speaker 12: Yep.

Speaker 1: Good, mate. Now, Yaz, which beer of the race do

Speaker 1: you want to sponsor? Which K? K.

Speaker 5: I wanted to sponsor the last one, but Pete has

Speaker 5: already dedicated that to his beautiful mother. So I'm going

Speaker 5: to dedicate the second last Kilometre 41 for my mother

Speaker 5: so Peter can push it home for us.

Speaker 6: I will do, mate. What's your mum's name?

Speaker 1: Her name was Fatma. Fatma.

Speaker 6: Perfect. So Fatma and Helen will be the final two

Speaker 6: Ks in the Sydney Marathon this weekend.

Speaker 13: Thanks, Yas.

Speaker 2: Beautiful.

Speaker 1: Yas, thanks for the support. Have a good day, mate.

Speaker 1: Thanks for calling.

Speaker 5: You too.

Speaker 4: Thank you so much.

Speaker 1: Kirini, welcome to the show. Beautiful name as well.

Speaker 13: Thank you, Christian.

Speaker 10: Thank you for having me on.

Speaker 9: I'd like to have a kilometre number two for First

Speaker 9: Stepping Scout Group. Obviously, we wanted number one.

Speaker 13: Being First Stepping.

Speaker 10: However, we're happy to give that to Dolly Parton and

Speaker 10: would love to sponsor number two.

Speaker 1: No, you're going to have number one now. Dolly's going

Speaker 1: to do nine.

Speaker 13: No way.

Speaker 2: Down to five. She's doing nine to five. You'll be

Speaker 2: number one for the First Epping.

Speaker 15: Yes, so that's First Stepping Scout Group in Melbourne.

Speaker 1: Love that. Awesome. Awesome. Kiralee, thank you very much.

Speaker 5: Thanks so much.

Speaker 9: Thanks, Christian.

Speaker 8: Better be running to it.

Speaker 1: What are the odds? All right.

Speaker 2: Let's get into today's What Are The Odds?

Speaker 12: Believe it or not, oh, what are the odds? You

Speaker 12: gotta be joshing me.

Speaker 9: Like were you a Cheryl who.

Speaker 6: Married a hon?

Speaker 8: Who worked with a Cheryl? Who married a hon as well?

Speaker 2: Every Wednesday morning on The Christian O'Connell Show, we're looking

Speaker 2: for your stories. We celebrate them of coincidence and chance.

Speaker 15: I'd lost this tiny diamond from my engagement ring. Refused

Speaker 15: to vacuum the house for a whole week. And as

Speaker 15: my robo-vac was vacuuming, it stopped. And sure enough, right

Speaker 15: under there was my diamond ring.

Speaker 10: I was working in a small local club and I

Speaker 10: was involved in an arm's hold up. And down the road,

Speaker 10: my cousin was involved in an arm's hold up the

Speaker 10: same morning.

Speaker 15: I have a brother called Michael.

Speaker 1: When he went to uni, he made a friend called

Speaker 1: Michael Michaels.

Speaker 15: Now, Michael Michaels went to St. Michael's, the school, and

Speaker 15: he lived in Michael's school.

Speaker 2: I can never hear enough of some of these. They're

Speaker 2: so great. This morning, here we go to Colin. His

Speaker 2: answer revealed that we were both born in the same hospital.

Speaker 2: What are the odds, Chris? Wait, there's more. About a

Speaker 2: week later.

Speaker 1: Hang on. Wait, there's more. More, you say?

Speaker 2: About a week later, I'm sitting at my desk, ready

Speaker 2: to take the first call of the day.

Speaker 1: Guess what? It's him again. The same guy. What are

Speaker 1: the odds? Guys I've not heard from him since. Sad note,

Speaker 1: that one. Rio, you've got a story for us for

Speaker 1: What Are The Odds?

Speaker 8: I do.

Speaker 12: Last year, I went to an incredible wedding in Sri Lanka.

Speaker 12: My friend's Sri Lankan. They got married there. I was

Speaker 12: sitting next to this guy, Dinesh, and we were geeking

Speaker 12: out because on the next table was a 1996 winning

Speaker 12: Sri Lankan World Cup cricket team.

Speaker 8: They were all there. Jayasuriya, Ratatunga. I talked to Chiminda Vass.

Speaker 8: We went over. It was really, really cool. Now, my parents..

Speaker 12: Just got back from the Maldives and they were telling

Speaker 12: me they were having a chat with the executive chef

Speaker 12: there because they're chatty people.

Speaker 8: And they were talking to him and said, oh, no,

Speaker 8: you know, we're from Australia. Where are you from?

Speaker 12: He said, I'm from Sri Lanka. He said, oh, my

Speaker 12: son was at a wedding for Sri Lanka. He was

Speaker 12: at the same wedding as the cricket team.

Speaker 8: And he goes, oh, no way. I was at that wedding.

Speaker 8: He said... What's his name? Mum said Rio. He goes, oh,

Speaker 8: that sounds familiar. And mum told me, I said, what's

Speaker 8: his name? She said Dinesh. I said, that's Dinesh who

Speaker 8: I was sitting next to.

Speaker 1: Oh, my God. Bloody Dinesh. That's incredible.

Speaker 6: That's crazy, right?

Speaker 1: That is a real what are the odds.

Speaker 9: Yeah.

Speaker 5: Wow.

Speaker 2: All right, what stories have you got? Coincidence and chance.

Speaker 2: The Chuckle Sisters are primed. Not for working on radio,

Speaker 2: but they are primed. We're yet to find out what

Speaker 2: they're primed for, but they are chuckling and they've got headsets.

Speaker 1: So please, let's put them to use.

Speaker 4: The Christian O'Connell Show.

Speaker 1: Go on.

Speaker 4: Podcast.

Speaker 1: Blimey, Christian.

Speaker 2: Rio must have made a really good impression. Sat next

Speaker 2: to a guy for a whole wedding, and all Dinesh

Speaker 2: can say is.

Speaker 1: That name sounds familiar. That's why he's on the radio. Oh, Mr. Charisma.

Speaker 1: Ten hours with the guy.

Speaker 8: Wow, I didn't think of it like that.

Speaker 1: No, no, no. Anyway, Christian, I'd love to dedicate KM32.

Speaker 2: It sounds like a flight number now. Kilometre 30 to

Speaker 2: my wife and our 30th wedding anniversary this weekend. Nothing

Speaker 2: says love more than dedicating another man's hard work to

Speaker 2: your wife.

Speaker 1: Happy anniversary, Amy. That's from Tim. Christian Wood.

Speaker 2: Pete, be able to dedicate the 40th kilometre to my mum.

Speaker 2: Her name is Joyce Forty.

Speaker 1: What a name.

Speaker 2: My auntie Jean was also 40. They were both 40s.

Speaker 2: Thank you very much, Pauline. Yes, we can do that. Christian,

Speaker 2: we come for you, Christian. We stay for the Chuckle Sisters.

Speaker 1: I just had to reel.

Speaker 2: I think I'm going to get some merch made up

Speaker 2: for the Chuckle Sisters.

Speaker 8: What are you thinking?

Speaker 2: It's got bright colours because they're bright colours. I'm thinking

Speaker 2: red T-shirt, yellow lettering. The font is that kind of 70s.

Speaker 1: Do you know what? There's a definitive iconic rounded bubbly.

Speaker 6: Bubbly, yes.

Speaker 8: I know exactly what you mean.

Speaker 1: Like Boogie Nights. You know that font?

Speaker 7: Boogie Nights.

Speaker 1: Not Boogie Nights, but you know what I mean? That

Speaker 1: kind of.

Speaker 2: Listen, I was talking about typography, guys, okay? Please don't

Speaker 2: counsel me. All right, let's see what the Chuckle Sisters

Speaker 2: have lined up on the lines now.

Speaker 1: Good morning, Graeme.

Speaker 13: Hey, good team.

Speaker 15: How are we?

Speaker 1: Good morning. Welcome to the show, Graeme. What are the odds?

Speaker 10: Well, the odds are I've got a mate and his wife,

Speaker 10: both coppers. His ute got stolen. So no worries. Got

Speaker 10: the insurance payout. A few months later, I'll get another ute.

Speaker 10: Goes looking, sees what advertised, rings up the guy. Yeah,

Speaker 10: come around and look at the ute, mate. Him and

Speaker 10: his wife go around. They're looking at the ute, nice

Speaker 10: blue ute. Oh, it's all good. And they're looking at

Speaker 10: the cover on the back, and they look at some

Speaker 10: stitching that they knew that they'd done. Then they looked

Speaker 10: at the seat, another repair that they'd done, and they thought,

Speaker 10: this is our ute. So they kept quiet, said to

Speaker 10: the guy, we'll get you some cash, and we'll come back. Oh, great.

Speaker 10: They come back with the coppers and they go, well,

Speaker 10: because the car's a different colour now, whoever stole it.

Speaker 10: And they said, well, that guard there, it's blue now.

Speaker 10: We put a yellow one on it and it was

Speaker 10: a white car. So they scratched down and sure enough,

Speaker 10: all the colours checked out and they busted some sort

Speaker 10: of car ring in the end. So he got his

Speaker 10: car back.

Speaker 1: What are the odds you'd go and see it and

Speaker 1: you'd buy it from the people that stole it?

Speaker 10: I know, it's the fact that he was a copper

Speaker 10: too and they've come round and banned his own use.

Speaker 10: It was, yeah.

Speaker 8: That's unlucky.

Speaker 10: What are the odds?

Speaker 1: What are the odds? It's a cracker, Graeme, thank you

Speaker 1: very much.

Speaker 8: A Graeme cracker.

Speaker 1: Oh my God. I feel sorry for Janesh. What time

Speaker 1: is this wedding ending? Rebecca, good morning, Rebecca. Welcome to

Speaker 1: the show.

Speaker 15: Good morning. How are you?

Speaker 1: I'm good, Rebecca. What are the odds back?

Speaker 10: Both of my daughters have the same freckle on the

Speaker 10: same hand as each other and the same spot as me.

Speaker 1: Oh, that is incredible. The same freckle, the same spot,

Speaker 1: and the same hand.

Speaker 15: Same finger.

Speaker 1: Same finger?

Speaker 9: Yep.

Speaker 1: What are the odds? Yeah, you.

Speaker 2: Rebecca, thank you very much for your call. Sorry, what's up?

Speaker 2: We missed something there?

Speaker 7: That was one of the daughters.

Speaker 3: It's a baby in the background.

Speaker 2: Sorry, I wasn't sure what was going on. I thought

Speaker 2: it was Pete. Stuart, good morning, Stuart.

Speaker 4: Good morning.

Speaker 13: Many years ago, I was going to a New Year's

Speaker 13: Eve party. It was a fancy dress party.

Speaker 16: It was when Russell Coit was in its prime, prime.

Speaker 16: I was dressed as Russell Coit, full Russell Coit regalia,

Speaker 16: and pull up into the bottle shop, the drive-thru, to

Speaker 16: get some drinks, loading up the boot.

Speaker 13: People are pointing at me and the staff, and they're going, oh, yeah,

Speaker 13: I'm Russell Coit. Then they start pointing at the car

Speaker 13: in front of me. In the car in front of

Speaker 13: me is Glenn Robbins.

Speaker 6: It's Glenn Robbins!

Speaker 1: The guy who plays Ruckling Court. Oh, what a spectacular...

Speaker 1: What are the odds?

Speaker 13: Color and and brand of car it was to confirm.

Speaker 2: It and he's a lovely guy as well glenn that

Speaker 2: is an incredible story i gave.

Speaker 13: Him the old wink with the head tilted to the

Speaker 13: side just a mutual uh Acknowledgement of each other.

Speaker 6: An homage.

Speaker 1: Glenn to Glenn. Russell to Russell. That is brilliant, Stuart.

Speaker 1: Great story. I love that one.

Speaker 2: I'm going to give you a $ 250 voucher for Chemist Warehouse.

Speaker 1: Fantastic.

Speaker 13: Thank you.

Speaker 4: The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.

Speaker 2: This is the Christian O'Connell Show. For the time wasted,

Speaker 2: a $ 250 voucher for Funday Natural Sweets. Funday, natural sweets,

Speaker 2: no added sugar, 100%. Mmm, num-num tasty. Maybe you want

Speaker 2: to try raspberry gummy frogs, strawberry and cream gummies, sour vegan.

Speaker 1: It's not very nice to say about them.

Speaker 2: Sour vegan, oh, gummy bears, and my favourites, cola-flavoured gummy bottles.

Speaker 1: Get your gummy on, that's what I always say.

Speaker 2: You do?

Speaker 1: I do.

Speaker 2: All right, we're looking for your dog TV shows. What

Speaker 2: do we think are in the top five team? Most

Speaker 2: popular dog names in Australia of last year.

Speaker 10: Milo.

Speaker 1: Not in the five.

Speaker 7: Luna, I know, is popular.

Speaker 6: Number one.

Speaker 1: Yeah.

Speaker 2: You know, loves the press release. Chucks it in every

Speaker 2: news bulletin. That's what it probably done this last year.

Speaker 7: I know that Luna's popular.

Speaker 1: Bruce is at number five.

Speaker 3: Bruce?

Speaker 1: I've never heard of him. I love dogs with human names.

Speaker 1: You've done the dog part. Kevin!

Speaker 2: And suddenly a little pug comes over, wheezing his calf.

Speaker 2: Bruce is at number five. Four is Coco. Three is Daisy.

Speaker 2: Number two is Teddy.

Speaker 13: No.

Speaker 8: Big dogs are always called Teddy.

Speaker 13: Yeah.

Speaker 2: All right, so we're looking for dog TV shows. What

Speaker 2: it over the phone or.

Speaker 1: over the phone? With a simple tune, yes.
