Speaker 2: My new book, Unscript, The Radical Act of Being Yourself,
Speaker 2: is now actually out, which actually means you can buy
Speaker 2: online or in your good independent bookshops, and also the audiobook,
Speaker 2: which is voiced by me, and also you can get
Speaker 2: the Kindle as well.
Speaker 1: So please.
Speaker 2: As you're reading it in the book, you'll realize I've
Speaker 2: got my personal email in there. Please let me know
Speaker 2: how you get on with it as well. I hope
Speaker 2: you really enjoy it. Please check it out. Unscript, The
Speaker 2: Radical Act of Being Yourself. And now, today's show.
Speaker 1: Enjoy.
Speaker 4: The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.
Speaker 1: Good morning, Pats.
Speaker 6: Good morning, everyone.
Speaker 1: Good morning, Rio. Good morning. Good morning, intern Pete.
Speaker 7: Good morning, everybody.
Speaker 2: Now, Pete, already I can hear just in the voice,
Speaker 2: it feels like you're a little bit more grounded than yesterday.
Speaker 2: You've got, understandably, pre-Sydney Mountain nerves. You're running with 40,000
Speaker 2: other people this weekend. How are you feeling today, Thursday?
Speaker 2: Only a couple of days to go.
Speaker 8: Yeah, I think I let a lot of energy out yesterday.
Speaker 8: So just a little calmer this morning, which is great.
Speaker 8: So I think you guys have arranged an amazing person
Speaker 8: for after the show. I'm going to be hypnotized to
Speaker 8: basically make sure I'm in the best space for this Sunday,
Speaker 8: about 6.30 a.m.
Speaker 1: This hypnotherapist is the one we used before a couple
Speaker 1: of years ago. Yes. It was brilliant. Really, really good. Jack,
Speaker 1: when he was on the show, wanted some help.
Speaker 2: He was struggling to connect with his father-in-law. He was
Speaker 2: quite an alpha male, and they were going to be
Speaker 2: playing golf. He was coming over from Venezuela, and Jack
Speaker 2: was getting quite in his head about it. So we
Speaker 2: found this hypnotherapist to help Jack, and the hypnotherapist really
Speaker 2: made a big difference. I remember at one point, Jack
Speaker 2: wanted the hypnotherapist to say to Jack, whilst he was under,
Speaker 2: you're the funniest man on Breakfast Radio. And in the
Speaker 2: recording of it, this guy edits himself and goes, Jack,
Speaker 2: you are perfect.
Speaker 1: One of the funniest.
Speaker 2: Guys on the radio.
Speaker 1: So I know you want to try and win the
Speaker 1: Sydney Marathon.
Speaker 2: I think at some point he's going, Peter, you can
Speaker 2: run the marathon.
Speaker 7: I know, I know. I have been thinking about that overnight.
Speaker 1: Like, what could I really... Because he's.
Speaker 2: Going to ask you, what are your intentions?
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
Speaker 8: And I had a briefing with him yesterday and sort
Speaker 8: of gave him a few things that he can play
Speaker 8: around with, which is... three hours and 30 minutes must
Speaker 8: happen all that sort of stuff and he's like have
Speaker 8: you done that before and i said never before and
Speaker 8: um he's okay.
Speaker 2: I'm getting the feeling he's writing notes at the other
Speaker 2: end exclamation mark he's never done three hours 30 before
Speaker 2: exclamation mark just out.
Speaker 8: Of curiosity i don't know if anyone's been hypnotized before
Speaker 8: um you have okay because i reckon i'm gonna struggle
Speaker 8: because he said oh do you have adhd or you're
Speaker 8: a bit hyperactive i said oh well i'm not diagnosed but.
Speaker 7: Um I think there is probably something going on.
Speaker 1: If you heard yesterday's show, hand that in. Yeah, I know, right?
Speaker 7: So I could hear concern going, we might not be
Speaker 7: able to get you there, Peter.
Speaker 2: I've got friends who've got a neurodivergent who've been hypnotized. Yeah, right.
Speaker 1: Okay. I was curious. You know what? Be curious. See
Speaker 1: what happens.
Speaker 7: Yeah, I'm going to let it roll.
Speaker 4: Roll.
Speaker 1: I've got a nice catch. There you go. It sounds
Speaker 1: like it's already hypnotized you. This is one of your
Speaker 1: trigger words. Roll. Roll, Peter. Roll. Roll along the mouth.
Speaker 1: And that's an unusual way of doing it.
Speaker 4: The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.
Speaker 2: Let us get into tombstone text. This is where we
Speaker 2: ask you to look at your phone. And whatever the
Speaker 2: first text message is that's at the top of your phone,
Speaker 2: imagine now that is your tombstone.
Speaker 1: Your headstone, what does it say? Patsy, what's it for you?
Speaker 6: Yeah, mine reads a recipe. Duck, two to three breasts, honey, garlic, ginger, asparagus.
Speaker 1: Oh my God, can I just say that sounds delicious.
Speaker 6: And it was delicious.
Speaker 5: Our daughter's doing dinner one night a week and she
Speaker 5: generally does Wednesday nights. So I get her to text
Speaker 5: me her list of what is her whim for.
Speaker 6: That evening and I'll go to the supermarket and get it.
Speaker 6: And I was really impressed. She wanted to try duck
Speaker 6: for the first time. And it was absolutely delicious. She
Speaker 6: did sort of like.
Speaker 1: A stir fry. You go and kill one down those wetlands.
Speaker 6: She did.
Speaker 1: Head down Spottiswood.
Speaker 2: That big old blunderbuss you got. Perhaps it's got an
Speaker 2: illegal bazooka, but we're not allowed to talk about it.
Speaker 2: Take out a few geese or whatever it's got.
Speaker 6: We are quite partial to the roadkill, but not ducks.
Speaker 6: Not ducks. But it was absolutely delicious. So she did
Speaker 6: kind of like a little stir fry number. with some
Speaker 6: rice on the side.
Speaker 1: That's high level for a 15-year-old. Very impressive.
Speaker 6: I am loving it because it means I don't.
Speaker 1: Have to think about what's coming. Also, great plotting on
Speaker 1: a Wednesday night, Patsy.
Speaker 6: Yeah, I know.
Speaker 1: That middle of the week. Oh, God.
Speaker 2: Got to cook again. Can't be bothered. Get the kid
Speaker 2: the next wave.
Speaker 1: That's it.
Speaker 5: And then Thursday nights, like tonight, she's at theatre school.
Speaker 5: So it's just the love God and I. So we
Speaker 5: generally just go for a pub meal or something. Like,
Speaker 5: you know, just something easy. So I effectively, you know,
Speaker 5: only have to cook. Maybe four or five nights a week.
Speaker 2: Honestly, one of the biggest pains in the butt as
Speaker 2: an adult is the relentless need to cook dinner.
Speaker 3: Always.
Speaker 1: Always.
Speaker 6: And hard to come up with different ideas.
Speaker 1: Yeah, that's it.
Speaker 6: It's always the same thing Tuesday night.
Speaker 9: We have tacos.
Speaker 6: Sunday night we have roast. It's like, yeah.
Speaker 9: That's pretty good life, though.
Speaker 1: I love a roast.
Speaker 9: Tacos every week, roast every week.
Speaker 6: Do you not have a roast every Sunday?
Speaker 10: No.
Speaker 1: I wish we did. No, I wish we did. This
Speaker 1: is so much work, the prep.
Speaker 6: No, it's not.
Speaker 11: It is.
Speaker 6: You just whack it in the dish and off you go.
Speaker 6: It's so easy. You forget about it.
Speaker 2: No, no.
Speaker 1: Roast is, to me, that's overwhelming.
Speaker 4: Really?
Speaker 2: I like cooking, but that feels like there's too many
Speaker 2: things going on. I shut down when there's too many
Speaker 2: things going down. I can handle three things. In the
Speaker 2: cooking process, that's my mouth. Roast, there's about five or six,
Speaker 2: so I forget about it.
Speaker 6: No, what's your go-to dish? What's your favourite thing to cook?
Speaker 1: Steaks.
Speaker 6: Steaks, yeah.
Speaker 1: It's a simple thing. It's a very, very simple thing.
Speaker 6: You say simple, but it's hard to cook a good steak.
Speaker 1: I don't just think.
Speaker 2: So the steak meal would be caramelised onions, also my
Speaker 2: homemade garlic butter as well, and this thing with these
Speaker 2: potatoes as well, which is like paprika and butter and that.
Speaker 2: And then asparagus, which I hate. But my wife is like,
Speaker 2: you have to eat greens. My kids reckon they've never
Speaker 2: seen me eat a single green.
Speaker 1: They're just boring. Come on, nature. Inject it with some cheese,
Speaker 1: that broccoli. And then we will talk.
Speaker 2: I'm hoping with the march of AI, that AI can
Speaker 2: take over vegetables for us. Because nature, to me, has
Speaker 2: done a pretty lousy job. They're just so boring. Infuse
Speaker 2: it with cheese.
Speaker 6: I love greens.
Speaker 1: If we can stuff a crust with cheese.
Speaker 2: Do you remember when stuffed crust was literally like the.
Speaker 1: Future had arrived of culinary? Elite.
Speaker 10: It became like this race, I don't know, race to
Speaker 10: the top or race to the bottom where it would
Speaker 10: get crazier and crazier. I remember Domino's had one where
Speaker 10: they would stuff the crust with a sausage. And so
Speaker 10: you had pizza and then a sausage around the side.
Speaker 1: What insanity.
Speaker 10: And everyone was just trying to one-up themselves. Then Pizza
Speaker 10: Hut's like, well, we're going to put a pizza on
Speaker 10: the pizza. It was the arms race of the pizza world.
Speaker 4: The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.
Speaker 1: Tombstone text. Have a look at your phones.
Speaker 2: The text message that is at the top of your inbox,
Speaker 2: the most recent one, whatever it says, that's now your tombstone.
Speaker 2: So for Len, his tombstone is full moon for me 100%
Speaker 2: this Friday night.
Speaker 1: It's a big full moon Friday. You'll start to notice
Speaker 1: about 3 o'clock.
Speaker 2: In the afternoon on Friday and then obviously become super
Speaker 2: visible later on in the evening.
Speaker 1: It's a sturgeon. For moon, for fellow moon lovers.
Speaker 9: Sturgeon, what does that mean?
Speaker 2: In North America, many, many years ago, this time of
Speaker 2: the year was when the rivers and lakes were full
Speaker 2: of sturgeons. It's a seasonal thing, and obviously the moon
Speaker 2: has a lot of impact on the waters and the lakes,
Speaker 2: and so they would be full of sturgeon, and so
Speaker 2: they would call it the sturgeon for moon.
Speaker 1: It's always the 28th. That's amazing. Sturgeon and moon knowledge.
Speaker 1: Pass that on, guys. Pass that on.
Speaker 2: Christian, Lyndon here. The tombstone for me is out cold. Now,
Speaker 2: do you mean knocked out cold?
Speaker 9: That's what I thought.
Speaker 1: Because a great one on someone's headstone. Lyndon, out cold.
Speaker 1: Keep cold. Christian, mine is, Dad, where are you?
Speaker 2: I was running late to pick up my daughter after
Speaker 2: work yesterday. That's from Tim. Christian, this is the tombstone text.
Speaker 2: I'm still crying. It's from my dad. He's a big
Speaker 2: Manchester United fan here. They lost 2-0 to... Hull yesterday.
Speaker 10: Is that the team that the new Aussie guy, Lucas Harrington,
Speaker 10: did he go to Hull?
Speaker 1: Yeah.
Speaker 2: Yeah, they beat Manchester United yesterday 2-0. Wow. Okay, mine
Speaker 2: actually is a text message that I got this morning
Speaker 2: from a fellow rival breakfast show presenter.
Speaker 1: Actually, not a rival. They're on ABC.
Speaker 9: Sammy J's puppet?
Speaker 1: Bob Murphy. Beautiful Bob Murphy.
Speaker 2: And he said, shall we attend the Oasis doco as
Speaker 2: a date?
Speaker 1: It is agreed.
Speaker 2: Contracts have been exchanged with both huge Oasis fans. We
Speaker 2: will put aside our rivalry and come together for Oasis.
Speaker 2: It's out in about two or three weeks. I think
Speaker 2: two weeks time. I cannot wait don't look back in
Speaker 2: anger cannot wait to see it so it's at the
Speaker 2: movies yeah oh no way yeah oh how cool yeah
Speaker 2: I cannot wait they've been filming everything from the first
Speaker 2: time they sat down together obviously the astonishing sellout success
Speaker 2: of the tour around the world as well it is
Speaker 2: going to be I cannot wait I'm so excited.
Speaker 10: And because you didn't end up actually i don't i
Speaker 10: don't want to talk about it i just thought it'd
Speaker 10: be a good experience for you.
Speaker 2: You don't know pete what happened well this mega oasis
Speaker 2: fan got too ill to attend oasis when they were
Speaker 2: here in australia no i didn't.
Speaker 10: Go to any of that he also missed out on
Speaker 10: england tickets Oh, Rio, what are you trying to do today?
Speaker 4: Come on.
Speaker 1: It's called The Bright Side of the Dial.
Speaker 9: I'd say this is so exciting for you because you've
Speaker 9: missed out twice.
Speaker 2: I could see what it must have been like to
Speaker 2: go to those Oasis shows.
Speaker 1: Yeah, you could be there now. It's the closest I'm
Speaker 1: going to be. That's good. It's exciting. That's why I'm
Speaker 1: excited to go. Anyway, I got a mandate with Bobby Murphy. Wow.
Speaker 1: All right. Pete, what's yours?
Speaker 7: Mine is not now.
Speaker 8: I'm at Chopper Reed's grave. That was from my sister
Speaker 8: who was covering a story. Apparently, there were some foxes.
Speaker 8: that are running wild around Faulkner in Melbourne, and she
Speaker 8: was covering a story that apparently they're starting to dig
Speaker 8: up graves in the Faulkner cemetery.
Speaker 7: Very dark, very crazy.
Speaker 1: What the foxes are? Apparently.
Speaker 8: So she was out there investigating it yesterday, and she
Speaker 8: told me not to... to talk about it on the
Speaker 8: radio because she's going to break the story in the
Speaker 8: next half an hour.
Speaker 1: But yeah, apparently there's foxes. Well, don't break it. Good
Speaker 1: on you, Pete. Don't break your sister's story. I know.
Speaker 7: It's not that big anyway.
Speaker 8: But basically, yeah, apparently there's foxes and they are just
Speaker 8: running rife at the moment.
Speaker 7: All the locals are going crazy.
Speaker 2: By the way, your sister Kate did incredible work yesterday
Speaker 2: talking about the Dolly Parton death.
Speaker 1: It's incredible, actually.
Speaker 8: Oh, yeah.
Speaker 1: You must be very proud of her.
Speaker 7: Yeah, no, I am proud of her. She did a
Speaker 7: good job on the other side.
Speaker 1: Amazing that someone in the family has got a real
Speaker 1: gift with words.
Speaker 2: Yeah.
Speaker 8: Oh, yeah, I see what you did there. Yeah, no,
Speaker 8: she did a great job. The foxes are digging up great.
Speaker 1: That can't be right.
Speaker 7: Apparently that is true in the Forkney area.
Speaker 1: People are buried, like, quite deep down. Six feet.
Speaker 8: And I think it was the chopper read angle as well.
Speaker 8: It's like, oh, this has got a bit of a
Speaker 8: celeb element to it.
Speaker 1: They're going to regret that.
Speaker 2: They'll be gangster foxes to take out a hit on
Speaker 2: those foxes.
Speaker 1: It's so true.
Speaker 2: The gangland wars of Melbourne about to get grimmer. The
Speaker 2: foxes will be buying other foxes' tabacs.
Speaker 1: What has happened to Melbourne? When are the elections?
Speaker 2: We've got foxes, foreign foxes, English probably, taking up our
Speaker 2: Aussie graves. Rio, what is your tombstone text?
Speaker 10: Mine is we can't keep living like this because my
Speaker 10: partner Will and I have devolved into essentially like messy
Speaker 10: teenagers where we've now got a spare room, like a
Speaker 10: guest room with a bed. And all our laundry, instead
Speaker 10: of now going back into our drawers after it comes
Speaker 10: off the line, it just goes straight onto the bed.
Speaker 4: Oh, no.
Speaker 1: Come on. How old are you? I know, I know.
Speaker 1: I've seen the photo of it. It's an embarrassment.
Speaker 9: It's insane.
Speaker 1: Two grown men behaving like that.
Speaker 9: You can't see an inch of the bed.
Speaker 1: Seriously.
Speaker 9: But the system works.
Speaker 1: It's like you're on a Contiki tour. It is like students.
Speaker 9: No, but actually, you should try it.
Speaker 7: You should try it.
Speaker 1: No, I don't want to. Because the system works. No,
Speaker 1: it doesn't.
Speaker 9: Yes, it does.
Speaker 1: You don't have to put it in.
Speaker 10: And then it's like you're in your own little DFO
Speaker 10: rummaging around.
Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
Speaker 2: Everyone knows what a hang that is.
Speaker 5: You do need a dumping ground, though. Sadly for us
Speaker 5: this week, it's our dining table. And everyone's got a pile.
Speaker 5: Where's my pile?
Speaker 1: Don't touch my pile. That's literally the same as ours.
Speaker 2: I just pile the clothes for the daughters and my
Speaker 2: wife and mine on the table.
Speaker 5: At least then they're done, like they're washed and they're folded.
Speaker 5: I know it doesn't look tidy, but they're processed as such.
Speaker 1: It's the processing. You've got to like it. That's not.
Speaker 1: That's actually more chaotic, your system. It's not processing.
Speaker 10: No, there is a serious lack of processing.
Speaker 1: You've got no system.
Speaker 9: There's no system.
Speaker 1: It's chaos.
Speaker 2: The dumping ground for me is the chair in the bedroom.
Speaker 2: I've never sat in that chair. It's just clothes get
Speaker 2: draped on it all around it. My wife hates it.
Speaker 2: She keeps trying to take the chair out of the
Speaker 2: room and I go and find it and put it
Speaker 2: back in there. It serves no purpose other to be
Speaker 2: a dumping ground for clothes.
Speaker 1: I love that chair.
Speaker 4: The Christian O'Connell Show.
Speaker 2: Go on.
Speaker 4: Podcast.
Speaker 2: It's the Christian O'Connell Show. Extra time on the time
Speaker 2: waster right now. We're looking for your dog.
Speaker 1: TV shows.
Speaker 2: The best one wins the ultimate toaster. It is the
Speaker 2: Breville Smart Toaster. All thanks to Harvey Norman. Shop the
Speaker 2: Breville Smart Toaster. Perfectly toasted results every single time. You
Speaker 2: can get it in store or online at Harvey Norman now.
Speaker 2: Dog TV shows, the best ones we had yesterday. Mark
Speaker 2: had Border Collie Security. Nathan had Puppy the Vampire Slayer.
Speaker 2: Rob had Tipping Pointer. What in the average age of
Speaker 2: a viewer of Tipping Point is?
Speaker 9: Great question. It's definitely, I would say, plus 65.
Speaker 2: I reckon it's plus 80. The sweet spot, 82.
Speaker 10: The questions on Tipping Point are so easy.
Speaker 1: No, they really are. How many tongues does a human have?
Speaker 1: I think I'm a genius. I should go on this.
Speaker 2: Paul had Walkies, Texas Ranger. And the winner, Jake, had
Speaker 2: Chasing Postman Pat. All right, some brand new ones. I've
Speaker 2: got Wolf Creek.
Speaker 1: Oh, gold. Ted Lassie. Oh, that's gold plus. What about
Speaker 1: old Doogie Schnauzer, MD? Great gold.
Speaker 2: Um.
Speaker 1: Would I like her to you?
Speaker 4: What?
Speaker 1: Like her. Great pet food. Oh, I love her. Yes, yes.
Speaker 1: It's gold. And Greyhound's Anatomy. Still fun. Not long to go, fans,
Speaker 1: until it's back in our lives. A couple of weeks.
Speaker 9: Is it always on?
Speaker 1: No, no. Sadly, it's been off for four months.
Speaker 9: Four months?
Speaker 1: That's not long for a TV show. You weren't there, man.
Speaker 1: It's 16 weeks of pining, scratching at the TV.
Speaker 9: Usually shows off for like a year or two.
Speaker 1: Oh, God. Owen's left. Teddy's left.
Speaker 6: They're coming like days of our lives.
Speaker 1: Oh, I love it. I hope it never ends. Oh,
Speaker 1: my God.
Speaker 2: The goings on of Slow Memorial is never far from
Speaker 2: my heart, guys.
Speaker 9: Well, I'm very excited.
Speaker 2: If you ask me, in fact, we should do this
Speaker 2: as a phone-in today. If you could be cast in
Speaker 2: any TV show, what would it be?
Speaker 1: It would be Grey's Anatomy.
Speaker 9: It's so stressful.
Speaker 1: I love that. I love that. A surgeon, a maverick surgeon.
Speaker 1: He's got issues.
Speaker 6: You have to be a brain surgeon, I reckon.
Speaker 1: No, no, I wouldn't be able to do the brain surgeon, no.
Speaker 9: Which surgery would you be able to do?
Speaker 1: I'm not entirely sure, actually. Oh, not the brain.
Speaker 2: What about, maybe I'd just wander around the walls cheering
Speaker 2: people up.
Speaker 7: I could, yeah.
Speaker 1: I'd be a clown surgeon.
Speaker 9: What's that, Robert Williams movie?
Speaker 1: Patch Adams.
Speaker 4: Patch Adams.
Speaker 1: Yes, yes. What would it be for you, Patsy, if
Speaker 1: you could be cast in any TV show?
Speaker 5: Well, I immediately think of Sex and the City because
Speaker 5: of the fashion and the lifestyle and the dinners.
Speaker 1: And the drinks.
Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, you know, the Manhattan cocktails.
Speaker 1: That would be a good life. What would it be
Speaker 1: for you?
Speaker 9: Flintstones. I'd love to go back in.
Speaker 1: Wow. Wow.
Speaker 11: Wow.
Speaker 1: It literally rocks me to my core. What?
Speaker 10: You wouldn't want to live with the dinosaurs in the
Speaker 10: Stone Age?
Speaker 4: You're kidding.
Speaker 1: No. Come on.
Speaker 9: That would be so cool.
Speaker 2: I'll tell you what it took me a long time
Speaker 2: to realize was that obviously because it was a huge
Speaker 2: kids TV show. Them slipping away, Barney and Fred, to
Speaker 2: go to the bowling alley was shorthand for the pub.
Speaker 2: When they ever showed them the bowling alley, they were
Speaker 2: just always at the bar pounding beers.
Speaker 1: There was no bowling going on. It was a con job.
Speaker 1: We're on to you. Pete, what would yours be?
Speaker 7: Steve Carell, The Office.
Speaker 1: That's it, just right there.
Speaker 7: Be the boss in The Office.
Speaker 2: We watched a great episode last night at the American office.
Speaker 2: It's such a great show. It's the one where Michael
Speaker 2: gets just left at a service station and and just.
Speaker 1: Goes on a walkabout.
Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1: And they have to go and find him. He's got
Speaker 1: no money to pay for food.
Speaker 7: Oh, my God.
Speaker 1: Oh, my God. It's such a great episode. And I've
Speaker 1: never seen the scene where Ricky and him do a
Speaker 1: scene together. Oh, at the end of the scene.
Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1: By the lift. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, it's so good.
Speaker 4: Yes.
Speaker 1: I love that show so much.
Speaker 7: I don't know if it matches me, but I just
Speaker 7: think that what he's done.
Speaker 1: Genius. Genius.
Speaker 7: Amazing.
Speaker 2: All the casting characters, and there's so many of them
Speaker 2: from Cree, It's a genius work of art, that TV show.
Speaker 1: Anyway, I forgot where we were.
Speaker 4: That's it.
Speaker 1: We're setting up dog TV shows now.
Speaker 2: After seven, we'll come back to which TV show would
Speaker 2: you love to be cast into?
Speaker 4: The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.
Speaker 2: This show is sponsored by Chemist Warehouse. They have an
Speaker 2: amazing charity for men's mental health. And we can never
Speaker 2: do enough on the show for the men's mental health
Speaker 2: crisis in Australia. They've got a great charity called Gotcha
Speaker 2: for Life. And they're looking for donations. Every donation helps
Speaker 2: equip more Australians with practical mental fitness skills so nobody
Speaker 2: has to worry alone. You can donate today, and if
Speaker 2: you do, thank you, at gotcha4life. grassroots. com. You can also search
Speaker 2: TCS Sydney Marathon.
Speaker 1: Thank you.
Speaker 2: All right, your dog TV shows. Jess has got, have
Speaker 2: you been paying Alsatian?
Speaker 1: Silver Plus.
Speaker 2: They rebranded and became German Shepherd Dogs and then rebranded again.
Speaker 2: They're the same dog.
Speaker 9: You're kidding.
Speaker 1: No.
Speaker 2: After the war, people really didn't want to be saying
Speaker 2: they had a German Shepherd Dog, so they became Alsatians.
Speaker 1: Right.
Speaker 2: Now.
Speaker 9: Germans are back.
Speaker 1: Germans are back.
Speaker 2: That's not the headline if you're just tuning in. Donnie
Speaker 2: Lee yesterday, the Germans are back. And this government does nothing.
Speaker 2: Get those submarines!
Speaker 1: Where were we? I dream of Dachshunds.
Speaker 9: Silver.
Speaker 1: What I'm Frank. Pitbull House.
Speaker 9: Silver Plus.
Speaker 2: Out of all the tributes, obviously yesterday, incredible reaction to.
Speaker 1: The past of Johnny Barton.
Speaker 2: And bit by bit, in different time zones, you saw
Speaker 2: whoever which global megastar was on tour was dedicating and
Speaker 2: doing a song. You know, there was an incredible one
Speaker 2: from Sting, and then there was.
Speaker 1: One from Pitbull. No way!
Speaker 2: Mr.
Speaker 1: Worldwide!
Speaker 11: Mr.
Speaker 2: Worldwide.
Speaker 1: Mr. Worldwide. He's our canary down the mineshaft.
Speaker 2: Didn't we keep saying throughout the show, has anyone woken
Speaker 2: Pitbull up?
Speaker 9: He's going to be devastated.
Speaker 1: Will he yell into a microphone?
Speaker 9: I don't see the connection between his songs and.
Speaker 1: Hey, she spoke to everyone. Me, you, Pat, Pete, Pitbull. Mr. Worldwide.
Speaker 2: Pitbull.
Speaker 1: Great Dane of Thrones.
Speaker 9: Silver.
Speaker 1: Well done, Sarah. RuPaul's bum drag race.
Speaker 9: Big gold.
Speaker 1: That is so good. Well done, Glenn. Who wants to
Speaker 1: be a good boy? Silver plus. Jerry Springer Spaniel. Bronze.
Speaker 1: Ted Schmacko. Oh, gold plus. Ted Schmacko is very good.
Speaker 1: Well done, Connor. Mark's got better homes than dug up gardens.
Speaker 2: Gold.
Speaker 1: Beavis and Buttsniff. Also good. That's gold, yeah. Rick and Corgi.
Speaker 1: Silver plus. Be bitched.
Speaker 10: Gold.
Speaker 1: Well done, Stewie. Puppy Blinders.
Speaker 9: Silver.
Speaker 1: Silence of the Labs. Gold. Boston Beagle. Silver. Farmer Wants
Speaker 1: a Kelpie.
Speaker 9: Silver plus.
Speaker 1: And How I Sniffed Your Mother.
Speaker 9: Gold.
Speaker 1: Rob in Sydney, very good. These are very good.
Speaker 10: Clever.
Speaker 2: All right, who is winning the ultimate toaster, the Breville
Speaker 2: Smart Toaster, thanks to Harvey Norman?
Speaker 9: Connor with Ted Schmacko.
Speaker 1: Yeah, well done, Connor. You're today's winner. You get the
Speaker 1: Breville Smart Toaster.
Speaker 4: The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.
Speaker 2: We've stumbled into today's big question. If you could be
Speaker 2: cast into any TV show, maybe one current one or
Speaker 2: one from the 80s or 90s or 2000s, which one
Speaker 2: would it be?
Speaker 1: For Patsy... So would you be, you have your own
Speaker 1: character patch?
Speaker 7: Oh, which character would I be?
Speaker 1: Oh, no, create your own one. Suddenly there's an Australian
Speaker 1: that moves in with the gals.
Speaker 6: Yes, and she's on the radio.
Speaker 1: With her funny ways and traditions.
Speaker 6: Yeah, what do you mean funny ways?
Speaker 1: And we go like, oh, my God, those Milanos? No,
Speaker 1: they're uglos. You Australians.
Speaker 5: I'll be down at Chinatown getting all the knockoff bags.
Speaker 6: I won't be getting the.
Speaker 1: Real legit stuff. Looking for yum cha.
Speaker 7: Yeah, too right.
Speaker 9: Who do you identify with the most, Samantha?
Speaker 2: Oh.
Speaker 9: Carrie, I'm just listing them.
Speaker 6: Probably Charlotte, to be honest.
Speaker 1: What?
Speaker 7: You reckon you're a Charlotte?
Speaker 6: I reckon I am.
Speaker 1: What do you think? Tell me why that's significant. I've
Speaker 1: never seen the show.
Speaker 9: Charlotte is this sort of innocent. She's got class.
Speaker 1: She's very classy.
Speaker 6: She's got class.
Speaker 9: She's very classy, which is exactly like Petrina Jones.
Speaker 1: She's got class. It feels like it's a full stop, mate. Unless, unless,
Speaker 1: pick a window, the one that you want to be
Speaker 1: put through. The very violent play school. Pick a window,
Speaker 1: you're going through.
Speaker 9: You're actually such a Charlotte.
Speaker 1: You are a Charlotte. You're a Charlotte. She's classy. Definitely.
Speaker 1: She told you what the answer is.
Speaker 6: You were going to say Samantha, weren't you?
Speaker 9: No, God, no, no, no. I think you're a main character, though.
Speaker 1: Maybe camera this on a podcast if people care. Pete,
Speaker 1: what's it for you?
Speaker 7: Yeah, it was for The Office, right?
Speaker 8: So I think the American version, because I'm a big
Speaker 8: fan of.
Speaker 1: I could.
Speaker 2: Easily see you as someone who comes to mend the photocopier.
Speaker 9: Yeah, absolutely.
Speaker 1: A bit of an office manager. Or quirky lad that works... No, actually,
Speaker 1: the IT department.
Speaker 7: Yeah, no, there's... Okay, I could do... No, I'm not IT.
Speaker 8: I'd be more of like an office manager, but don't
Speaker 8: want to have to be in charge too much.
Speaker 7: No, hang on a minute.
Speaker 1: Hang on a minute. Office manager?
Speaker 7: Well, you know, the one that's in charge.
Speaker 8: Like, I'm in charge of the street ice cream fridge
Speaker 8: that we have here now at the radio station.
Speaker 7: I've got the key, and no one can get in
Speaker 7: without coming to me.
Speaker 1: It's taken you three months to give away all that
Speaker 1: ice cream.
Speaker 4: I know.
Speaker 1: We've still got so many Fionettas. What kind of office
Speaker 1: management is that?
Speaker 2: It's office mismanagement. But I guess that's the nature of
Speaker 2: the show. So, yeah, I get that.
Speaker 9: Okay, fantastic, yeah.
Speaker 1: Rio, yours is a real curveball one.
Speaker 10: I would love to go back in time and live
Speaker 10: in the Flintstones, hang out with the dinosaurs, live in
Speaker 10: the Stone Age.
Speaker 1: Will you be with Fred or?
Speaker 10: Yeah, I think I'd be the third in their relationship. Yeah,
Speaker 10: we'd sort of form an ancient polycule and we'd all
Speaker 10: just sort of.
Speaker 1: Mine would be, seriously, would be Grey's Anatomy.
Speaker 2: I love that TV show. Still running 24 seasons. It
Speaker 2: comes back in a couple of weeks' time. I reckon
Speaker 2: I could easily do a quiz about the goings on
Speaker 2: over the years of Grey's Anatomy. I think I introduced
Speaker 2: my eldest daughter at a too young age to Grey's
Speaker 2: Anatomy at the age of 10.
Speaker 1: Too young. That's too young.
Speaker 2: It comes up a lot that it was too young
Speaker 2: to be introduced to Grey's Anatomy. But I would go
Speaker 2: Grey's Anatomy. Producer Caitlin, obviously you want yours because you've
Speaker 2: got the theme tune on. She didn't bother getting me
Speaker 2: one for Grey's Anatomy. There's nothing here for Grey's Anatomy.
Speaker 2: Everyone gets theirs.
Speaker 1: Pete, new boy Pete. He's only been on the show
Speaker 1: two minutes. He gets his. Love it. Rio gets his.
Speaker 1: And this is mine. But Caitlin's got hers. Oh, let
Speaker 1: me guess.
Speaker 4: Yes, great.
Speaker 2: You're running the coffee shop with that strange Gunther, wasn't it?
Speaker 4: Yes. Absolutely happy to.
Speaker 6: They'd become my friends.
Speaker 12: I just imagine being a part of that in the
Speaker 12: 90s would be stunning.
Speaker 4: Great decade.
Speaker 12: It would be incredible. And I would want to be
Speaker 12: Rachel just because her hairstyle.
Speaker 2: Oh, wow.
Speaker 1: So you're replacing one of them.
Speaker 12: Yeah.
Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 9: Isn't that the whole point?
Speaker 6: We want to be in the show as the person?
Speaker 1: No, I want to have my own character in Grace.
Speaker 1: Charming English doctor.
Speaker 4: Maverick.
Speaker 6: No, I want to be Rachel Green.
Speaker 2: I reckon I do good work with a stethoscope just
Speaker 2: wandering around. No one's quite clear what does that guy do.
Speaker 2: Turns out he's just a radio DJ on Sloane Grey
Speaker 2: Memorial FM. Song Stories and Healing. But you're actually knocking
Speaker 2: out Rachel. She's now you.
Speaker 6: No, I would become her.
Speaker 12: So I would just love to be that character in
Speaker 12: the show. All I've ever wanted was the opening credits
Speaker 12: to have been on set the day that they made that.
Speaker 12: Around the fountain.
Speaker 2: I don't know why.
Speaker 12: It's a weird thing that I've just been like, just
Speaker 12: imagine being on that set that day when they created it.
Speaker 12: That is iconic.
Speaker 6: It will go down in history.
Speaker 2: Your answer to what? You could be cast in any
Speaker 2: TV show. Past or present is? I'd like to be
Speaker 2: in the opening credits. And they go, thanks for coming in, mate.
Speaker 2: So you don't want to be in one of the
Speaker 2: most beloved sitcoms ever.
Speaker 1: No, no, no. Just want to sort of get my
Speaker 1: feet wet in the fountain. Get on that couch.
Speaker 11: Yes!
Speaker 1: That's it.
Speaker 9: I would be so happy.
Speaker 12: I would die a happy person if I got to
Speaker 12: be there and a part of that.
Speaker 1: I don't know what it is.
Speaker 2: This question's been really revealing, hasn't it? We should have
Speaker 2: asked it in the census next year. We'll be asking it.
Speaker 4: The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.
Speaker 2: I didn't know how revealing. Ask your friends this at
Speaker 2: the weekend. If you could be cast in any TV
Speaker 2: show past or present, what would it be? It's fascinating.
Speaker 2: I just spoke to one of the Chuckle Sisters, Tina,
Speaker 2: who got... She wants to be Ross. No one wants
Speaker 2: to be Ross. No, I don't think even he wants
Speaker 2: to be Ross. He's a man constantly existential dread, isn't he?
Speaker 2: Of his own existence.
Speaker 1: Fright of his own shadow. A lot going on with
Speaker 1: the old Chuckle Sisters. All right.
Speaker 10: Oh, wow.
Speaker 2: Finally got it. Hour after doing it. All right, so
Speaker 2: which TV show our listeners want to be in? I
Speaker 2: love this from Michelle. Christian, I always want to be
Speaker 2: in Prisoner, the original, with Bea, Lizzie, Doreen. I even
Speaker 2: had my mum make me a denim dress like they
Speaker 2: had to war. What?
Speaker 1: I don't know why I thought they might lock up
Speaker 1: an eight-year-old. That's wrong.
Speaker 6: It was an iconic show.
Speaker 1: It was, yes. It was brilliant.
Speaker 6: Be with that press, putting people's heads in the iron press.
Speaker 4: No, it is.
Speaker 1: I still remember that scene.
Speaker 10: Yeah.
Speaker 2: We used to get it in the UK, and it
Speaker 2: was only ever screened when the pub shut on a
Speaker 2: Friday night at midnight. I've never seen it sober. I
Speaker 2: would come back from the pubs when I was 18, 19.
Speaker 2: And I remember in our share house, we would always
Speaker 2: watch on a Friday night the goings on with this
Speaker 2: bizarre Australian show, The Prisoner. Christian cast me as Karen
Speaker 2: in Will and Grace.
Speaker 11: Yes.
Speaker 1: She does have a great show. What a great show
Speaker 1: that was.
Speaker 2: Huge, wasn't it? That character, Christian, that whole show is
Speaker 2: everything to me. Christian, I would love to have been
Speaker 2: a part of the Big Bang Theory. I would fit
Speaker 2: in right with Penny. And the boys, that's from Emily.
Speaker 2: Quite a few of you.
Speaker 1: Blue Heelers. I guess it's Australia's Grey's Anatomy. Yes.
Speaker 2: And Will and Grace is the theme tune, if we've forgotten.
Speaker 1: Christian, I always want to be Norm in Cheers.
Speaker 9: Sometimes you want.
Speaker 6: To go where everybody knows your name.
Speaker 1: Another guy wants to be in Cheers.
Speaker 2: For guys, Cheers isn't my one suggestion. I think it's
Speaker 2: more the idea that you could just hang around a
Speaker 2: bar all day. That was like the only setting for it. Christian,
Speaker 2: I'm wearing this sitcom Cheers, just spending all day sitting
Speaker 2: around a bar, talking to my mates. That's from Mark. Christian,
Speaker 2: for me, Schitt's Creek. Christian, charred me would have been Scooby-Doo,
Speaker 2: me with the gang. In Scooby-Doo World, they always went
Speaker 2: up against the thickest criminals in the world that could
Speaker 2: easily be rumbled by a dog.
Speaker 1: By a dog.
Speaker 9: And not a smart dog.
Speaker 1: Not a smart dog. As a kid, I used to
Speaker 1: love Scooby-Doo. It's just the best.
Speaker 2: Also, do we think that it was about every third episode,
Speaker 2: it was always a... bitter caretaker that did it always
Speaker 2: the caretaker it was every third episode that bitter janitor
Speaker 2: came back around always had some bad mask on as
Speaker 2: well oh for having me you damn pesky meddling kids
Speaker 2: that's on Brodie these are great thank you very much
Speaker 2: I want to be on Doctor Who.
Speaker 1: Either as the doctor or the companion. That's from Matthew.
Speaker 1: Natalie Christian, I dream of living in Stars Hollow. From?
Speaker 2: Anyone?
Speaker 1: Buna?
Speaker 4: Gilmore Girls.
Speaker 1: Yes!
Speaker 2: It is my TV show. I even watch it in
Speaker 2: the background as I do housework. I want to be
Speaker 2: a resident of his friends with L'Oreal, but I want
Speaker 2: to date Luke. Again, I'm saying words I don't know
Speaker 2: the relevance of.
Speaker 1: I've never seen it. Is he the hunk in it?
Speaker 6: Isn't he, Caitlin, is he the guy that was on Supernatural?
Speaker 12: Sorry, I was so focused on Lorelei because I'm obsessed
Speaker 12: with her.
Speaker 6: I missed who you said was the male.
Speaker 1: Luke was the male.
Speaker 6: Luke was her.
Speaker 7: Oh, my God.
Speaker 1: Luke and Lorelei.
Speaker 2: Oh, my.
Speaker 6: Eat your heart out.
Speaker 4: He owned the coffee shop.
Speaker 1: Don't even get me going.
Speaker 12: Do not because that moment when they finally kissed, I
Speaker 12: will never forget. No.
Speaker 1: GG, girls for life. It's a new tattoo I'm getting.
Speaker 9: Play the song, play the song.
Speaker 1: No.
Speaker 2: Christian, you've just ruined my commute because my husband has
Speaker 2: just told me that he wants to be cast in Neighbours.
Speaker 1: He reckons he could have had a crack at Charlene
Speaker 1: and split her and Jason off.
Speaker 2: Oh, wow.
Speaker 12: Wow.
Speaker 1: Okay.
Speaker 4: The Christian O'Connell Show.
Speaker 11: Go on.
Speaker 4: Podcast.
Speaker 2: Christian, my name is Desiree. I always want to be
Speaker 2: in the goodies, play the part of Timbrook Taylor. What
Speaker 2: about West Wing, Christian? I know you love that show.
Speaker 2: I think I might have to choose the West Wing.
Speaker 2: I'm about to start re-watching the West Wing from episode one.
Speaker 2: I love that show. Christian, can you get Rio to
Speaker 2: take back what he said about Scooby-Doo? He was very intelligent.
Speaker 1: How many crimes has Rio sold? Good question, actually. You
Speaker 1: never answered that question.
Speaker 9: That's true. I've never solved any crimes, so I guess Scooby-Doo.
Speaker 1: He's 100 from 100.
Speaker 2: Probably one of the greatest detectives ever.
Speaker 1: Facts.
Speaker 9: I formally apologize.
Speaker 1: The great Scooby-Doo.
Speaker 9: Detective Doo.
Speaker 2: All right, so good luck to Intern Pate on this
Speaker 2: show now. He's running the Sydney Mouthing this weekend. How
Speaker 2: are you feeling today, Pete? You seem a bit more settled.
Speaker 7: Yeah, a little calmer today.
Speaker 1: Very excited.
Speaker 8: I was walking around the city yesterday and you can
Speaker 8: just feel the vibes already.
Speaker 2: All those international visitors that you seem to be obsessed with.
Speaker 2: Another plane coming in.
Speaker 7: Yeah, there is. There is another plane.
Speaker 1: Probably from Congo, that one.
Speaker 8: Another Qantas flight about to arrive. Going through a beautiful
Speaker 8: rainbow over Sydney this morning because you just hear in
Speaker 8: the city, you know when you just hear things differently?
Speaker 8: Like the build-up is massive. I'm over the Harbour Bridge
Speaker 8: this morning. It's like three days to go. The signage
Speaker 8: is there. They're starting to change all the street signs
Speaker 8: from what normally might be a giveaway sign to road
Speaker 8: closure this Sunday, don't park here, all that sort of stuff.
Speaker 7: Really exciting stuff, as I said.
Speaker 1: And you're capturing this for content. I love a.
Speaker 7: Lane closure sign.
Speaker 1: Yeah, sorry.
Speaker 7: I just realised how boring that just sounded.
Speaker 1: No, no, no, no.
Speaker 2: Chill.
Speaker 1: No, no, no. I want you live at those signs tomorrow. Peace.
Speaker 1: Live on the Harbour Bridge. By that lane closure sign.
Speaker 1: You know that one?
Speaker 2: You're right.
Speaker 8: I'm doing a big shakeout run on Saturday morning with ASICS.
Speaker 8: They're going to take me out and we're going to
Speaker 8: just make sure our bodies are ready to go.
Speaker 7: And then there's a bazillion.
Speaker 8: Run clubs that are just inviting anyone that's visiting the town.
Speaker 2: I know what you mean. There's something in the atmosphere
Speaker 2: that changes. It's always the same every year in the
Speaker 2: last few days. before the London Marathon. You could feel it.
Speaker 2: It was really, the city was getting ready for something
Speaker 2: really big. And obviously, big parts of the city are
Speaker 2: shut down. So, you know, it's this mega event that
Speaker 2: shuts the city down as well. And for you guys,
Speaker 2: you're starting at half six.
Speaker 1: In the morning.
Speaker 7: Yeah, it's crazy.
Speaker 8: It's crazy.
Speaker 2: I don't know any other marathon in the world that
Speaker 2: gets them going, get them a little bit of.
Speaker 1: Sleep on a Sunday. Half six? It's so Australian, that is. Nah,
Speaker 1: she'll be all right.
Speaker 4: Yeah.
Speaker 1: Get out here at midnight if it was me.
Speaker 10: Yeah.
Speaker 7: The earlier we start, the earlier we get to have
Speaker 7: a beer afterwards.
Speaker 1: It's going to be a great day. That's what the
Speaker 1: thinking is. Yeah, for sure. It's a thinking country.
Speaker 7: About 11 degrees.
Speaker 8: I think it's perfect running conditions, they're saying, for Sunday.
Speaker 8: It's cold enough. It's not too hot. The winds are
Speaker 8: going to be fine. It's going to be a cracky morning.
Speaker 2: All right.
Speaker 1: Good luck, Pete.
Speaker 2: Now, what we're going to do is to support Pete along.
Speaker 2: It's the second time he's done it, is we're giving
Speaker 2: away every K. He's going to dedicate it to one
Speaker 2: of you. Now, you mentioned the other day that somebody's
Speaker 2: been inspirational for you is Sally Pearson.
Speaker 7: Oh, Sally Pearson.
Speaker 8: Just there's a video on YouTube that I watch over
Speaker 8: and over and over again. And it's when she was
Speaker 8: competing at the Olympics and the hurdles and she and
Speaker 8: she she got to the finish line, but she didn't
Speaker 8: know that she was going to win. and then she did,
Speaker 8: and she fell to the ground.
Speaker 7: I don't know.
Speaker 8: I just see videos like that sometimes, and I think
Speaker 8: she is just such an inspiration to this country. Everything
Speaker 8: she does, not just her athleticism, but just who she
Speaker 8: is as a person. I think she's a beautiful person.
Speaker 1: She has left a message for you. Oh, really? Yeah,
Speaker 1: have a listen to this, mate.
Speaker 9: Intern Pete, good luck for your marathon.
Speaker 6: Can you please name the first K after me?
Speaker 4: Because I think if you do that, it will set
Speaker 4: you up for success and you might just win that marathon.
Speaker 9: It doesn't matter where you come from. So good luck,
Speaker 9: have fun and just keep running.
Speaker 7: Oh my God, Sally Pearson.
Speaker 1: That is amazing.
Speaker 7: That is truly, Sally, that.
Speaker 8: Is, I'm sorry, she's not here, but obviously, but I'm
Speaker 8: just saying, Sally, if you listen to this, this is,
Speaker 8: that was just amazing.
Speaker 2: Listen, it's been a big couple of minutes for you.
Speaker 2: The thought of all these lane closure signs, probably more today.
Speaker 2: It's going to really blow your mind. One more concern.
Speaker 2: I could just see you on the race. You're actually
Speaker 2: probably going to be a bit slower because you're probably
Speaker 2: to be taking photos of some of the lane closers.
Speaker 7: That means so much from Sally, but also she wanted
Speaker 7: number one.
Speaker 1: Was that right?
Speaker 2: It's the most contested at the moment. The Kiraly Epping
Speaker 2: Scout Group have number one. What about She Takes Zero?
Speaker 2: Like your first steps.
Speaker 1: Okay. Zero to one, Kay.
Speaker 7: So prior to the start line, is that what you mean?
Speaker 1: So almost like a... Approach. Yeah, approach.
Speaker 9: Sally's got the approach.
Speaker 7: Okay, Sally gets the going through.
Speaker 9: Yes.
Speaker 2: All right, so we're giving away a Kay, and we've
Speaker 2: got so many great stories about why you want specific
Speaker 2: Ks along the way. 41 was yes yesterday for his mother, Fatma.
Speaker 1: 40 for Pauline.
Speaker 2: Maria wants 39 for her son, Scott, who's meant to
Speaker 2: run but is injured. He's out the race this weekend.
Speaker 2: Irish Maggie called the show the other day. She's done
Speaker 2: 10 marathons in her 70s.
Speaker 1: She's done 10 marathons.
Speaker 2: She wants K38 because that's where she said it gets
Speaker 2: very tough. She wants to be with you in spirit, Pete.
Speaker 2: Robin wants 28. Dedicate a kilometer to her, Hudson. Sorry, grandson.
Speaker 2: Tamara wants 13 to dedicate to splat the cap. And
Speaker 2: then there's this lovely one from Donna.
Speaker 11: Hi, Christian. It's Donna. I'd love to sponsor Kilometre 36
Speaker 11: for my niece. Her name is Kate and she's battling
Speaker 11: cancer at the moment and she turns 36 on Saturday.
Speaker 11: If we could do that, that would be fantastic.
Speaker 2: Well, we send all our love and all the best
Speaker 2: to Kate and Donna.
Speaker 1: Thank you very much for that. Definitely. Let us know
Speaker 1: then which K we don't sponsor for Pete this weekend.
Speaker 4: The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.
Speaker 2: Do you want a K of the 42 that intern
Speaker 2: Pete is running this weekend in Sydney? He's going to
Speaker 2: be recording all the dedications, all 42 of them as
Speaker 2: he's running the route as well.
Speaker 1: Yep. Or more that are coming through. Christian, I would
Speaker 1: love to sponsor.
Speaker 2: Pete either K13 or 14 for our two football teams.
Speaker 2: Hurstbridge Junior Football Netball Club. They are competing this weekend
Speaker 2: in the grand final Sunday.
Speaker 1: Good luck.
Speaker 2: Hurstbridge Junior Football Netball Club. Hopefully Inter and Pete can
Speaker 2: be a good omen for the boys. That's from Jodie.
Speaker 2: There are so many mums and dads supporting their kids
Speaker 2: this week in various grand finals.
Speaker 4: Yes.
Speaker 1: It's huge.
Speaker 2: In fact, maybe on tomorrow's show, we should ask for
Speaker 2: people who are supporting their kids in their grand finals
Speaker 2: in various soccer, netball this weekend.
Speaker 1: There are so many.
Speaker 2: Mel, who's head of sales here at the radio station,
Speaker 2: Her husband is the coach.
Speaker 1: Of their son's team. Big grand final game this weekend. Awesome.
Speaker 1: I know.
Speaker 2: And so, mums and dads, we want to hear about
Speaker 2: your daughters, your sons' teams tomorrow on the show so
Speaker 2: we can give you some grand final cheers. Christian, did
Speaker 2: you know that SBS is televising the Sydney Marathon? Will
Speaker 2: we be able to look out for intern Pete? Yeah,
Speaker 2: here'd be the guy marvelling at all the road closure signs.
Speaker 7: Do you know what?
Speaker 8: I mean, if they're streaming it, I suppose they're really
Speaker 8: only focusing on the elite athletes, I guess.
Speaker 7: So it just means we've got to run a bit faster,
Speaker 7: I suppose. See if we can get on the TV.
Speaker 9: Pete, actually, I've got a great idea.
Speaker 10: Why don't, to guarantee some screen time.
Speaker 9: You could write it backwards.
Speaker 10: Or, because everyone's going to be jogging, obviously, why don't
Speaker 10: at the start you just bolt?
Speaker 9: Oh, that's a great idea.
Speaker 10: 500 metres of health as hard as you can.
Speaker 1: I'm going to do that. That's a great idea. Get
Speaker 1: your fastest lap the first round. Hang on, who is
Speaker 1: this man? Apparently he's an intern.
Speaker 7: A very old one, too.
Speaker 8: Funny story, when you say running in reverse, I was
Speaker 8: actually in a movie called Reverse Runner, actually a local
Speaker 8: production from Colac in Victoria back in the day. Yes,
Speaker 8: there's a movie called Reverse Runner. Yep, yep, back in
Speaker 8: the day. I played the publican at the TAB, so.
Speaker 9: Good casting.
Speaker 1: Thank you, thank you. What does it mean, you running
Speaker 1: it backwards? Like, you're running into the race.
Speaker 7: Oh, sorry, yeah.
Speaker 1: You start at the opera house.
Speaker 2: Oh, I thought you meant to go wait someone's misread
Speaker 2: the map it's intern pete classic all right uh all
Speaker 2: right so if you want a k of the 42
Speaker 2: uh peter's running this weekend give us a call 13
Speaker 2: 55 22 debbie good morning debbie welcome to the show.
Speaker 3: Good morning hello.
Speaker 1: Good morning debbie all right which k do you want
Speaker 1: to sponsor I.
Speaker 3: Was hoping for K number five because I'm going to
Speaker 3: be on course this weekend volunteering at the drink station
Speaker 3: number five.
Speaker 2: Oh, that's fantastic.
Speaker 3: So I want a big shout out and big wave
Speaker 3: to Pete as he goes through drink station number five.
Speaker 7: Oh, that's great, Debbie. What do you look like? Because
Speaker 7: there's a lot of volunteers on there.
Speaker 3: Yeah, well, you know, brown hair, brown eyes, pretty normal.
Speaker 7: Okay, I'll look out for a normal person.
Speaker 1: Debbie. I can't wait.
Speaker 9: Any weirdos, that's not Debbie.
Speaker 7: I love that you're volunteering.
Speaker 1: Well done.
Speaker 7: I'm definitely going to give you a big high five.
Speaker 1: Yeah, what a great thing to do, Debbie. Have you
Speaker 1: done anything like that before?
Speaker 3: No, normally I'm running, but this time I'm volunteering, so
Speaker 3: I'll see it from the other side.
Speaker 9: Brilliant.
Speaker 1: Enjoy Sunday as well. What a great thing to do.
Speaker 3: Thank you.
Speaker 1: And look out for our man, Intern Pete.
Speaker 9: Literally look out.
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. Because he won't be the CEO.
Speaker 2: He'll be squinting at various brown-haired people.
Speaker 1: Debbie, Debbie, Debbie, Debbie, Debbie, Debbie, Debbie. It's going to
Speaker 1: slow him down. Your slowest K is going to be K5. Yeah, okay, great. Debbie, Debbie,
Speaker 1: please look out for him.
Speaker 2: Look after our man. Debbie, thank you very much for
Speaker 2: calling the show, mate. Have a good day Sunday.
Speaker 1: Bye. Peter is on the line. Oh, sorry. Yeah, hi,
Speaker 1: can you hear me? I can hear you, Peter. Welcome
Speaker 1: to the show. Yes, thank you. Look, I rang up yesterday.
Speaker 4: I wanted to do the middle one because as I'm Pete,
Speaker 4: I'd rather do it as a repeat, but you only
Speaker 4: gave it away.
Speaker 1: So why don't we do number 23 and we have
Speaker 1: a three-peat? This is a great idea.
Speaker 2: I feel like intern Pete and this Pete could be
Speaker 2: cousins or related.
Speaker 1: The energy is both there. Yes, definitely. We can have
Speaker 1: the three-peat. Three-peat. Yep. Three-peat.
Speaker 9: Have a good run.
Speaker 1: Thanks, mate.
Speaker 9: Have a good run. What a legend.
Speaker 1: How about those road closures? Yeah, I know. I can't
Speaker 1: stop thinking about it, mate. I know.
Speaker 2: It's image of the day, really, isn't it? It's in
Speaker 2: our hearts. You know, when you think about a marathon,
Speaker 2: you think, how many road closures does that actually have
Speaker 2: up there?
Speaker 1: Just to reassure listeners, we're having him hypnotized today.
Speaker 4: The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.
Speaker 2: Yesterday, as the world reacted to the great Dolly Parton
Speaker 2: and her passing, there were just so many beautiful tributes.
Speaker 2: And outside the front of Buckingham Palace, what an extraordinary life.
Speaker 2: She goes from a real dirt poor background, and then
Speaker 2: the day that she passes away, outside Buckingham Palace, the band,
Speaker 2: the Coldstream Guards, in their full Beefeater outfits, do one
Speaker 2: of your songs. Their version, a military band of 9
Speaker 2: to 5. Doesn't it sound great?
Speaker 10: This is a banger version.
Speaker 11: Who needs pitbull?
Speaker 10: You've got a marching band.
Speaker 1: Last show of the year for Christmas.
Speaker 2: Can we have a marching band playing instrumental versions of
Speaker 2: just songs? Christmas songs and just great Aussie songs. Last
Speaker 2: show of the year. There must be so many great
Speaker 2: marching bands of Australia. Maybe we could do an audition.
Speaker 2: Marching band idol.
Speaker 1: Golden buzzer.
Speaker 2: All right, signs you're an adult now. You appreciate a
Speaker 2: good marching band.
Speaker 9: That's so true.
Speaker 1: The brass on this. All right, signed, you're an adult.
Speaker 1: What is it for you, Patsy?
Speaker 6: Yeah, I lay foil.
Speaker 5: When I use the stovetop, I lay foil over it
Speaker 5: so to keep it clean.
Speaker 6: And it just makes, like, clean up so much easier
Speaker 6: after you've had dinner.
Speaker 1: What a great idea.
Speaker 6: Yeah, it's a bit kind of nonner, isn't it?
Speaker 1: It doesn't matter.
Speaker 5: I do find it really helpful because I just find
Speaker 5: that such a pain to have to do a greasy stovetop.
Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, it is. How do you do that?
Speaker 9: How do you go around all the burners, though? You don't.
Speaker 5: You kind of just have to do it, you know,
Speaker 5: because the burner's around, so you just have to get
Speaker 5: as close as you can, so you kind of crisscross.
Speaker 1: Right, okay.
Speaker 6: You know, like a noughts and crosses sort of game.
Speaker 1: Quite an arrangement, isn't it?
Speaker 6: It is a bit, yes.
Speaker 10: By the time you do that, is it not just
Speaker 10: easier to scrub the stovetop?
Speaker 6: No, I kind of hate it.
Speaker 9: Yeah, it's the worst job.
Speaker 1: I don't like it. No, the worst one is the trays.
Speaker 9: Oh, the oven trays?
Speaker 1: Yeah. Yes, that is the worst job. They do not
Speaker 1: want to be cleaned. No. Oh, my God.
Speaker 2: Once you put something there for an hour, hour and
Speaker 2: a half, they just, it's, so you can do that
Speaker 2: thing of like soaking. That's what I did last night,
Speaker 2: soaking overnight. When I looked in the small, like 80
Speaker 2: hours later, nothing's moved.
Speaker 9: And it's festy when you come the next day.
Speaker 1: Oh, God, you're like, oh, no. All the fat has
Speaker 1: come to the surface. Oh, no.
Speaker 6: I was going to say, don't you just chuck it
Speaker 6: in the dishwasher?
Speaker 2: No, because I'm worried it takes some sort of protective
Speaker 2: layer off them, and I'm left with a kind of,
Speaker 2: it loses some sort of coating.
Speaker 6: Oh, okay.
Speaker 10: We did get a great tip from a listener last
Speaker 10: year who says, put a dishwashing tablet in your dirty
Speaker 10: oven trays. Just put it in with some boiling water
Speaker 10: for an hour, and it actually does work a miracle.
Speaker 1: Yeah?
Speaker 2: I'll tell you what I do use that technique for,
Speaker 2: to clean my, this is so sad. I like, I
Speaker 2: can't believe I'm actually saying this out loud. I like
Speaker 2: a really clean, sparkly-looking sink.
Speaker 4: Yeah.
Speaker 2: So what I do is I fill up with boiling water.
Speaker 2: I fill the kettle like three times. Fill up that
Speaker 2: sink with boiling hot water. Put a dishwasher tablet in
Speaker 2: the sink. Let it in there for about two or
Speaker 2: three hours.
Speaker 1: Drain it. It's obviously cold. It is spotless, sparkling, like
Speaker 1: it was a brand-new sink.
Speaker 6: Wow, what a.
Speaker 9: Great use of time.
Speaker 6: Well, you could just use Jif in 30 seconds.
Speaker 4: No, no, no, no.
Speaker 1: I like it marinating away.
Speaker 2: All those coffee stains at the bottom, they build up
Speaker 2: over time. I cannot believe I've got so much to
Speaker 2: say about the passion I have for.
Speaker 1: A clean sink.
Speaker 9: Although, Patti, since you're an adult, I love the smell
Speaker 9: of Jif. Yes, isn't it great?
Speaker 1: Jif and gumption. Yeah, I'd be happy with a body
Speaker 1: lotion of Jif.
Speaker 9: Chemist's Warehouse.
Speaker 6: I think they do sell it.
Speaker 1: A nice body butter. What is that? It's Jif. It's
Speaker 1: got that nice creamy granular feel as well. Can I
Speaker 1: use it as an exfoliant?
Speaker 4: Christian O'Connell Show podcast.
Speaker 1: Signs you're an adult. What's it for you?
Speaker 2: Christian, I enjoy buying storage containers and baskets to organize things.
Speaker 6: I love a storage solution.
Speaker 1: Storage solution, that's what we want.
Speaker 2: Yes.
Speaker 1: It's solutions, guys. Signs I'm an adult.
Speaker 2: The joy and happiness when you manage to finish mowing
Speaker 2: the lawns before it starts to rain.
Speaker 1: For me, it's not even that, Santo. It's actually just
Speaker 1: looking back at your work.
Speaker 2: Seeing the satisfaction of the stripes perfectly aligned, I'm now
Speaker 2: heavily into Insta Reels of mowing.
Speaker 1: I'm not even joking.
Speaker 9: You're in motor.
Speaker 1: Oh, God, it's just good. Deeply pleasing. Ride-ons, push-alongs, whatever
Speaker 1: it is, mowing.
Speaker 2: There should be just a 24-hour TV channel of just
Speaker 2: mowers from around the world just mowing.
Speaker 10: You should be able to go off and just do
Speaker 10: a higher, a ride on just for like 30 minutes,
Speaker 10: an hour.
Speaker 9: I've never had that privilege.
Speaker 1: Somebody's got acreage. Yes.
Speaker 2: Just let me have a go. Crank her up, fire
Speaker 2: it up.
Speaker 1: What are we doing? Close cut or a quarter cut?
Speaker 1: Imagine that's what they say.
Speaker 2: Christian, there are so many brass and concert bands around
Speaker 2: Australia and regionally as well. The reason is I was
Speaker 2: just playing this. This was outside Buckingham Palace yesterday. their tribute,
Speaker 2: the Coldstream Gods, their tribute to Dolly Parton.
Speaker 1: How good does this sound?
Speaker 2: I don't know what it is. The sound of the
Speaker 2: brass instruments just moves you.
Speaker 4: It's so warm.
Speaker 1: It's a Christmas sound to me. That's what it is.
Speaker 2: Last show this year in December, I've decided we're going
Speaker 2: to have a marching band playing hits.
Speaker 10: Oh, yeah.
Speaker 2: Let's start with this one. Christian, you've got to get
Speaker 2: your act together now. They book up.
Speaker 1: Now for Christmas.
Speaker 9: Candles by Candlelight.
Speaker 2: Yes, yes. Most are finally highlighting Christmas gigs over the
Speaker 2: next week or two.
Speaker 1: Shout out to my band.
Speaker 2: City of Ballarat Municipal Brass Band.
Speaker 1: I will see them.
Speaker 9: I'm seeing them December 10th. Oh, maybe December 12th.
Speaker 1: What are the odds?
Speaker 9: Meredith, yes.
Speaker 10: They play Meredith December 12th in the morning. It's the
Speaker 10: last day of the festival.
Speaker 1: You're kidding. Well, you can audition them, mate. Please, for
Speaker 1: the show. Get some cards.
Speaker 2: Do some deals, Rio. Also, you know what I was
Speaker 2: thinking yesterday? What a great time to be a really
Speaker 2: good Dolly Parton tribute act.
Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
Speaker 1: There must be some who had Gates book this weekend.
Speaker 2: You're just going to light up wherever you're playing this
Speaker 2: weekend over the next couple of months, wherever you are
Speaker 2: in Australia. If someone is a Dolly Parton tribute act
Speaker 2: and they're playing, can you imagine this weekend?
Speaker 1: Oh, it'd be incredible.
Speaker 2: Christian signs you now don't want to make toasted sandwiches.
Speaker 2: And while they're cooking, you put all the ingredients away.
Speaker 9: Yes, that is a great one.
Speaker 2: I love doing that because then there's nothing worse. You
Speaker 2: feel like you can't totally relax and enjoy your toasted
Speaker 2: sandwich because of all the cleanup stuff.
Speaker 1: Totally.
Speaker 2: The grease, the cheese, all going to be put away
Speaker 2: in the food bags. Clean that spatula, guys.
Speaker 1: That's a great one, Warren.
Speaker 2: I had one of the greatest toasted sandwiches I've had
Speaker 2: in the last couple of years yesterday.
Speaker 1: And you've had a lot. Have you ever seen Hugo's Deli?
Speaker 9: I know Hugo's Deli very well. Which one did you
Speaker 9: go for?
Speaker 1: I went for the, it was the cheese, pesto and ham.
Speaker 4: Yes, yes, yes.
Speaker 9: The team and I go to Hugo's most Fridays.
Speaker 1: It is so good. Beautiful. Humbling experience.
Speaker 2: Seriously, I actually sat on those tables out the front, right?
Speaker 2: And actually had a very deep think. Got my notepad out.
Speaker 2: I had some deep thoughts. It was after that.
Speaker 1: It was a moving experience.
Speaker 2: I went in there and went, which one of you
Speaker 2: made this? There's only like two of them working there.
Speaker 2: And I went, this was a spiritual experience. They looked
Speaker 2: at me like I was on something.
Speaker 1: They were like, okay, mate, have a good day. And
Speaker 1: they were looking at each other like, weirdo.
Speaker 2: I thought it'd be nicest to pay back because it's incredible.
Speaker 1: Yeah, they are.
Speaker 9: But you do get the vibe a little bit that
Speaker 9: it's like, you're lucky to be here.
Speaker 1: Oh, no, no, definitely.
Speaker 9: You're lucky to be eating our toasties.
Speaker 2: Yeah, it was like speaking to like a French restaurant.
Speaker 2: I remember I was telling you when I was in
Speaker 2: Paris the first time and I said to a waiter,
Speaker 2: this is an incredible meal.
Speaker 1: And he went, yeah, okay. Yeah, it's good. Okay. Like
Speaker 1: we don't need, yeah, we know. We don't need your validation, Angleterre.
Speaker 2: Christian Saint-Germain getting Christmas Day excited about new household appliances.
Speaker 1: Harriet then goes into block caps.
Speaker 7: The best!
Speaker 1: Christian Saint-Germain getting excited when.
Speaker 2: The Audi catalogue gets delivered to check out the special buys.
Speaker 2: Like I do with a scuba tank and hedge trimmers.
Speaker 1: All in one, you say? Christian, tip.
Speaker 2: For stovetops around the burners. I work in real estate
Speaker 2: and have seen some of the best and worst. Pie
Speaker 2: cases with the middle cut out to fit around burners.
Speaker 2: Then four as well. Never done it myself. I'm a hot,
Speaker 2: soapy water gal. These are Harriet's words, not mine. Steady, everybody.
Speaker 1: Steady.
Speaker 2: But the homes, all the stoves will always return spotless.
Speaker 2: Some people wrap their entire oven In foil. Wow.
Speaker 6: That's impressive.
Speaker 4: Is it?
Speaker 1: I ain't going to do that. No way. Too much.
Speaker 1: You're welcome, Harriet.
Speaker 4: The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.
Speaker 2: Christian, I was reading all the beautiful coverage yesterday of
Speaker 2: the passing of Donny Parton.
Speaker 1: Suddenly I thought the show.
Speaker 2: Did you know Donny created a 30,000 square foot aviary
Speaker 2: for bald eagles?
Speaker 1: Oh, wow.
Speaker 2: No way.
Speaker 1: I didn't know that. Too injured to be released back
Speaker 1: into the world.
Speaker 2: Fitting, given your ego over the last eight years. She
Speaker 2: really was a legend in all kingdoms. Cara, I didn't
Speaker 2: know that. Get that picture back. Christian O'Connell, show on guard,
Speaker 2: 8.42 for Chemist Warehouse. Time waster today on World Pass Today.
Speaker 1: Italian movies.
Speaker 2: For the best in show, $ 250 voucher. For fun day,

Speaker 2: All right, so we're doing Italian movies.
Speaker 1: Power ranking.
Speaker 2: Who do we think is in the top five Italian Australians?
Speaker 8: Ooh.

Speaker 2: No.
Speaker 9: Jonathan LaPaglia?
Speaker 1: No.
Speaker 12: No.
Speaker 9: Tina Arena.
Speaker 1: Number one. Number one. Fan news for classic Italian Hamish Blake.
Speaker 1: The name says.
Speaker 2: Oh, it must be Italian.
Speaker 1: How many generations back? Hamish Blake. Look at the man.
Speaker 1: He looks more Icelandic than Italian. Where we got this from?
Speaker 1: The chat GPT spewed this out. English Blake.
Speaker 2: A number four, Vanessa Amorosi. Sally Hamish doesn't have a song.
Speaker 1: We can't blame her. And then another well-known.
Speaker 2: As soon as you see the man, you thought, bloody hell.
Speaker 1: You know, he's missing his homeland. Scott Cam. Scotty Cam.
Speaker 7: Come on, come on.
Speaker 1: Apparently, brackets here, real name, Scott Caminetti. Are you serious?
Speaker 12: Yeah.
Speaker 9: Scott Caminetti.
Speaker 1: Really? Yes.
Speaker 10: Cam.
Speaker 1: Enetti. Yes.
Speaker 9: Whoa, I would not have picked that.
Speaker 1: No. Natalie and Brulia, it's at number two.
Speaker 2: Sally Hamish and Scott don't get any audio.
Speaker 9: I can't look at Scott Cameronetti the same anymore.
Speaker 2: And also Hamish Blake. I'm going to text him in
Speaker 2: a minute as soon as we hit the ads. That
Speaker 2: can't be right.
Speaker 1: All right. Italian movies. I wish they got a Hamish
Speaker 1: Blake one in there now. Honey, I Shrunk the Nonna.

Speaker 2: This must feel, if you listen to this right now,
Speaker 2: like it's punching through the speakers.
Speaker 1: What about Don't Stop Me Now? Do you know what, guys?
Speaker 1: I've just had a vision. What a great way to
Speaker 1: wake up listeners. Why don't we have marching band week?
Speaker 2: A different listener can be woken up by a marching band.
Speaker 1: Your neighbours will love you.
Speaker 9: Have you bloody hell done this?
Speaker 2: That's the Christian O'Connell show. That's how we get new listeners.
Speaker 2: We should try and do that. Five listeners woken up
Speaker 2: across each show by a live marching band outside the
Speaker 2: front of your house.
Speaker 1: Shut up and dance.
Speaker 9: You're starting the day in a great mood.
Speaker 2: You are, aren't you?
Speaker 1: Your neighbours, maybe not. But you, yeah. You're going to
Speaker 1: leap out of bed. You can't put this on mute. Snooze. Wait,
Speaker 1: I've got it.
Speaker 2: What about we get people, you know, in the house
Speaker 2: of surprise, mum or dad. So the marching band creep out.
Speaker 2: into the house.
Speaker 1: Oh, my God. Really careful with that trombone, that snare.
Speaker 1: What's that one? Yeah, snare drum. Yeah, yeah. Careful going upstairs.
Speaker 2: You're going to bash a cymbal or something, and then
Speaker 2: suddenly the lights go on, and.
Speaker 1: Imagine this in your bedroom.
Speaker 2: Time to go to work. Good morning, listener Tim. LAUGHTER Okay, guys,

Speaker 2: Tomorrow on the show, we're going to give away the
Speaker 2: last few Ks of Intern Pete's Sydney Marathon.
Speaker 1: He's going to dedicate each K to one of you.
Speaker 2: Pete, this morning at 9.45, you are being hypnotized to
Speaker 2: help you get in the right mental state for Sunday's marathon.
Speaker 7: Very excited about this. We're going to film it, and
Speaker 7: I'll have, I guess, all revealed tomorrow on what goes down.
Speaker 1: And have you ever been hypnotized before?
Speaker 7: No, I think they tried many, many years ago. It
Speaker 7: just couldn't get me to calm, like, the calmness that
Speaker 7: it needed.
Speaker 1: I think I was a little bit hyper. Let's, all
Speaker 1: of us, spare a thought at 9.45 about hypnotherapists. Or Joel.
Speaker 1: It might quit him. All right. We'll find out tomorrow
Speaker 1: how he goes. Pete, good luck. Thanks, guys.
Speaker 4: The Christian O'Connell Show.
Speaker 1: Go on.
Speaker 4: Podcast.
