Speaker 3: And Ross. It's all true. And Chloe Jean.
Speaker 1: If it's happening in Central Florida, it's on her radar,
Speaker 1: giving you a reason to get off the couch and
Speaker 1: out of the house. It's time to find out what
Speaker 1: there is to see with Chloe G from the Orlando Weekly.
Speaker 3: Good luck, Chloe G!
Speaker 2: Yay!
Speaker 3: What is up?
Speaker 2: So much is up. I can feel your eyes on

Speaker 4: I think it's very cool. It's a different change of
Speaker 4: your week. Your week is just going to click along.
Speaker 4: Next thing you know, you're getting screamed at.
Speaker 2: I feel like a star.
Speaker 4: I feel like a celeb. Chloe joins us from Orlando Weekly, OrlandoWeekly.com.
Speaker 4: You can read Chloe's columns right there in the pages
Speaker 4: of if you'd like. She joins us every Thursday around
Speaker 4: this time.
Speaker 3: Yeah, don't back to wake up by two days.
Speaker 4: To talk about some things happening in Orlando. Maybe you
Speaker 4: can make your schedule. And this week, of course, and
Speaker 4: this whole month, we're focused on the spooky. And you
Speaker 4: tell me an entire plate of spooky goodness today.
Speaker 1: Almost.
Speaker 2: Almost an entire plate of spooky. I have a lot
Speaker 2: of spooky Halloween-y things going on. So I'll start us
Speaker 2: off with an event tonight, actually. So there is a
Speaker 2: Day of the Dead celebration at City Arts in downtown Orlando.
Speaker 2: This is the 17th annual Dia de los Muertos and
Speaker 2: Monsters Party.
Speaker 3: Nice.
Speaker 2: So it's hosted by City Arts. It's a free event
Speaker 2: that features Day of the Dead and Halloween-inspired artwork by
Speaker 2: artists both local and from all around the world. Magnolia
Speaker 2: Avenue is going to be transformed into a lively street
Speaker 2: party with art vendors, face painting... installations, live performances, and
Speaker 2: lots to eat and drink.
Speaker 4: And by the way, Deb, if you haven't seen any
Speaker 4: of this guy's art, I saw some clips of it
Speaker 4: throughout the week as this is being promoted.
Speaker 3: Pretty amazing stuff.
Speaker 2: Yeah, there's lots of amazing stuff.
Speaker 4: I mean, really cool stuff. And if you like that
Speaker 4: Dia de los Muertos thing or whatever.
Speaker 2: Oh, so close.
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah. You're so close.
Speaker 2: You're right there. You're right there.
Speaker 3: You got to get your sugar skull on. Say it again.
Speaker 2: Dia de los Muertos.
Speaker 3: Parlo usted ingles. Parlo usted ingles. What she said, anyway,
Speaker 3: they paint about it and it's good. Yeah.
Speaker 2: Yeah, it's really good.
Speaker 3: Really fun.
Speaker 2: So there's also going to be a procession.
Speaker 3: Oh, really?
Speaker 2: Yeah, performances from a mariachi band.
Speaker 3: Oh, there you go. God, I love them.
Speaker 2: The Mexico Lindo Folkloric Ballet. Belly dancers, singers, lots of arts.
Speaker 5: Ah, damn.
Speaker 2: Art to browse through. Lots to do. Lots for you
Speaker 2: to mispronounce. There's plenty.
Speaker 3: Easy.
Speaker 5: Easy.
Speaker 3: Easy. You are welcome here anytime. Easy.
Speaker 2: Thank you so much, guys.
Speaker 3: I'll have the quesadilla. Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 2: Exactly. And yeah, that's tonight at City Arts on Magnolia
Speaker 2: Ave from 6 to 10 p.m.
Speaker 3: Will they have salsa?
Speaker 2: You can show up and ask them yourself.
Speaker 3: And it is free to attend. Oh, it is free?
Speaker 2: Yeah, all free to attend.
Speaker 3: Can I try the tomatillo?
Speaker 2: Exactly.
Speaker 3: Keep them coming.
Speaker 2: I know you guys have more.
Speaker 3: Always.
Speaker 2: Also this weekend is Orlando's big come out with Pride celebration.
Speaker 2: So there's going to be events and celebrations tomorrow and
Speaker 2: then all throughout the weekend. Things start off Friday, tomorrow,
Speaker 2: with a little pregame before the main event on Saturday.
Speaker 2: So tomorrow, Downtown Nightclub Anthem hosts a pride kickoff party
Speaker 2: with lots of DJs and a late night Latin music
Speaker 2: night that goes until 2.30 a.m. Another chance for you
Speaker 2: to mispronounce things. I'm just realizing. It's all coming together.
Speaker 3: There's a theme.
Speaker 2: The bar Southern Nights is also hosting a kickoff party
Speaker 2: at 9.30 p.m. tomorrow with a long list of big
Speaker 2: local drag stars performing along with DJs and a lot
Speaker 2: of dancing. Savoy in Ivanhoe Village is also throwing a
Speaker 2: little dance party to kick things off with even more DJs, dancing,
Speaker 2: live music, and drag. On Saturday, the city's big Come
Speaker 2: Out With Pride parade takes over downtown. There's going to
Speaker 2: be even more parties, live performances, and kind of just
Speaker 2: community celebrations in Lake Eola Park. So everything on Saturday
Speaker 2: kicks off at noon and runs until about 10 p.m.
Speaker 2: There's going to be two main entertainment areas. There's the
Speaker 2: Diva Stage and then the Sonic Bloomfield.
Speaker 3: Okay.
Speaker 2: Both will feature lots of performances, food, drinks, vendors, and
Speaker 2: lots to do before the parade, which kicks off at
Speaker 2: 4 p.m. It runs until 6 and will feature more
Speaker 2: than 250 organizations and local businesses making their way through
Speaker 2: the streets of downtown in massive, really cool decked out floats.
Speaker 3: I can only imagine.
Speaker 2: Yeah. All those two hours, it's really packed.
Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2: It's all free to attend and everybody is encouraged to
Speaker 2: dress in their most colorful attire. RuPaul's Drag Race royalty
Speaker 2: Roxy Andrews will be headlining the diva stage at night.
Speaker 2: Other local stars and more drag race alum like Ginger Minj,
Speaker 2: Mickey Meeks, and Sasha Kobe also perform among lots more.
Speaker 3: Jimmy knows all of them. I do know Ginger.
Speaker 2: And you should.
Speaker 3: I know Ginger Minj. I've met Ginger a number of times.
Speaker 2: Okay, amazing.
Speaker 3: Absolute legend. And an awesome person, by the way.
Speaker 5: One of the best Central Floridians to ever exist. And
Speaker 5: has made Central Florida... Super sweet person.
Speaker 3: Way better.
Speaker 2: No, they're all really nice, amazing people. And so they
Speaker 2: will all be performing and kind of just, it's a
Speaker 2: very high energy weekend. Lots to do, lots to look at.
Speaker 2: And that is what's going on with the Pride Parade.
Speaker 2: It's all free to attend. And again, it starts at
Speaker 2: noon on Saturday, the main event, at noon on Saturday
Speaker 2: at Lake Eola Park.
Speaker 3: There you go. I saw Ginger Minj. I did a
Speaker 3: comedy show with her.
Speaker 5: And when I tell you that's like top five loudest
Speaker 5: I've ever seen a crowd.
Speaker 3: Yeah. It's memorable.
Speaker 4: I've been to a drag bingo with her a couple
Speaker 4: of times. And that is a master class on how
Speaker 4: to take care of a stage and make an audience
Speaker 4: come alive.
Speaker 3: I mean, talk about wit. Yeah.
Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
Speaker 3: In the game a minute, too. Yeah. Oh, yeah.
Speaker 2: The Gala of Ghouls celebrates its three-year anniversary this weekend.
Speaker 2: This is also on Saturday. It's an alternative drag night
Speaker 2: that happens typically in Thornton Park, but this weekend it's
Speaker 2: moving to Winter Park. They're saying it's a combo Halloween
Speaker 2: and Pride-themed soiree with drag and burlesque performers. There's going
Speaker 2: to be a fashion show, a scare trail, a costume contest,
Speaker 2: and a seance. This is what they're saying.
Speaker 3: Covers all your bases.
Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. Anything you could want to do. And that
Speaker 2: is on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Conduit in
Speaker 2: Winter Park. Tickets start at $ 17. Okay. Pretty good. Also,
Speaker 2: at the Conduit this weekend, everything's kind of connected this weekend.
Speaker 2: Also at the Conduit. On Sunday, actually, Market of the
Speaker 2: Beast is happening.
Speaker 4: Market of the Beast is a great, great name. Kudos
Speaker 4: to whoever thought.
Speaker 3: Of that, by the way.
Speaker 2: So this is the spooky, very Halloween-appropriate arts and vendors
Speaker 2: market that takes place at the Conduit every once in
Speaker 2: a while. The market specializes in oddities, curiosities, strange sights
Speaker 2: and sounds, and even esoteric eats and drinks. The organizers
Speaker 2: say they like to prioritize more obscure goods and alternative artists.
Speaker 3: Yeah, that's cool.
Speaker 2: Like make really weird art.
Speaker 4: Oh, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2: There's some taxidermy going on.
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Some Halloween-themed things.
Speaker 4: When that thing, that esoteric thing, when that rolls through,
Speaker 4: when they do that big show out at the campground
Speaker 4: or the fairgrounds.
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Dude, that is like walking into a
Speaker 3: different dimension.
Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 3: Going to that thing.
Speaker 2: No, it's very spooky. It's very weird. A lot of
Speaker 2: unconventional art and just a strange vibe overall.
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2: And it's at the Conduit in Winter Park on Sunday.
Speaker 2: It kicks off at 5 p.m. and is free to attend.
Speaker 3: Very good. Well, a lot of free stuff this week.
Speaker 3: A lot of free stuff. The most I think we
Speaker 3: can spend so far, 17 bucks.
Speaker 4: Yep.
Speaker 3: Yeah, right.
Speaker 2: This last one isn't free, but it is pretty good.
Speaker 2: So this is the last one. Your last chance to
Speaker 2: see the Broadway hit Hamilton in Orlando.
Speaker 5: Wow.
Speaker 2: It plays at various times throughout the weekend at the
Speaker 2: Walt Disney Theater inside the Dr. Phillips Center. It's the
Speaker 2: Tony and Pulitzer Prize winning hip hop phenomenon. And tickets
Speaker 2: start at $ 107 and then they kind of go up
Speaker 2: and you're looking at those better seats.
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure.
Speaker 2: That's cool.
Speaker 4: Yeah, Jack's daughter already saw Hamilton twice. Jack saw it once.
Speaker 4: A very popular show. Is this the one that has
Speaker 4: the Orlando star in it? No, Justin Sargent. He has
Speaker 4: played the role of King George III in other cities,
Speaker 4: but not in Orlando.
Speaker 3: He's an Orlando guy, though. Yeah, that's awesome.
Speaker 2: And that's what's going on this weekend.
Speaker 3: What are you doing this weekend?
Speaker 2: I really want to go to some of these events.
Speaker 2: I'm going to go to Pride. I'm going to dance around,
Speaker 2: wear my colorful whatever.
Speaker 3: You got a whole crew you go with or you're all,
Speaker 3: out there single, like solo?
Speaker 2: I don't know yet. I'm going to rally the troops
Speaker 2: and see what's going on. I really do want to
Speaker 2: attend the Market of the Beast and just look at
Speaker 2: weird stuff.
Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
Speaker 3: It's so good.
Speaker 4: I'm telling you, when you go to that one, when
Speaker 4: they do the big one at the fairgrounds, you have
Speaker 4: to break yourself.
Speaker 3: There's some stuff in there. Some of it's a little like, oh,
Speaker 3: this is kind of gross. Some of it is out.
Speaker 3: When someone is out there, you're like, wow, you have
Speaker 3: this hanging in your house.
Speaker 5: Do you? I know.
Speaker 2: It's like human teeth.
Speaker 3: This is too much.
Speaker 2: Sometimes it's a little bit too much.
Speaker 3: You've got to catch the vibe of that stuff before
Speaker 3: you put it in your home.
Speaker 2: Some of the stuff you don't want to touch. This
Speaker 2: might be a little haunted.
Speaker 3: They don't want to bring that home with you.
Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely not.
Speaker 5: I was not expecting that response, Deb, of going like, well,
Speaker 5: I'm not going to do that because I don't know
Speaker 5: whose teeth they are.
Speaker 3: Seriously.
Speaker 2: There's a reason why I won't hang certain African masks.
Speaker 3: If I don't know the background of something, I'm not
Speaker 3: hanging it in my home. And that goes with antiques
Speaker 3: as well.
Speaker 4: Dude, my grandfather, you want to hear something crazy? My grandfather,
Speaker 4: my grandfather is where I got the whole estate sale,
Speaker 4: garage sale thing from. And my grandfather. traveled all over
Speaker 4: the nation, kind of buying little stuff like this, then
Speaker 4: he would sell at garage sales. And he was a
Speaker 4: pretty kind of uniquely self-educated guy. So he was very
Speaker 4: interested in a lot of stuff. And he bought this lot.
Speaker 4: And when he bought this one lot, the lot had
Speaker 4: a bunch of different stuff in it. It was mostly
Speaker 4: scientific instruments, but at the bottom of the of the
Speaker 4: uh box was a small wooden carving okay and he
Speaker 4: he started doing research you gotta remember this is back
Speaker 4: in the 80s no internet or anything like that so
Speaker 4: you're going to the library you're you're you're spending actual
Speaker 4: time trying to find something with a little bit of
Speaker 4: background on this and it turned out it was an
Speaker 4: african um amulet no no no it was it was
Speaker 4: an a small idol Fertility. That they would use in
Speaker 4: a certain ceremony. And the way that you knew that's
Speaker 4: what it was is because the color of it was
Speaker 4: ox blood. The ox that would have been the ox
Speaker 4: or the animal that would have been sacrificed at that
Speaker 4: particular thing is what they used to color this particular
Speaker 4: thing with.
Speaker 3: My dad wouldn't go in the same room with it.
Speaker 3: My dad would not.
Speaker 4: It was like a little man, like a little very
Speaker 4: rudimentary carved man with sunken eyes and stuff like that.
Speaker 4: My dad would not go in the same room with it.
Speaker 4: It was a total of four and a half inches tall,
Speaker 4: and it weighed nothing. Like the size of a can
Speaker 4: of Coke is about the size of it. My dad
Speaker 4: wouldn't have anything to.
Speaker 3: Do with it, dude. He would shut the door to
Speaker 3: the room that it was in. Is this right after
Speaker 3: that two-parter on the Brady Bunch? Yes. Yes. It shouldn't
Speaker 3: walk by itself.
Speaker 2: Yes.
Speaker 3: All right. Always good seeing you, Chloe.
Speaker 2: You too.
Speaker 3: Let me go.
Speaker 2: I'm getting scared.
Speaker 3: Good luck, Chloe G.
Speaker 2: Yay.
Speaker 4: You're free.
Speaker 5: Run, run.
Speaker 2: Thank you.
Speaker 5: I got to go.
Speaker 2: I got to go. Run toward the light.
Speaker 3: All right. Back in a sec.
