Cardinals Cover 2 – Draft Picks Kaleb Proctor And Karson Sharar Share Their NFL Paths
Ep. 1014 – They were the only defensive players the Cardinals selected in April's NFL Draft, both coming on Day 3 after productive college careers. Defensive lineman Kaleb Proctor was taken in the fourth round, while inside linebacker Karson Sharar was selected in the sixth. Recently, Craig Grialou caught up with Proctor, the first FCS player drafted this year. After that conversation, Craig hands the microphone to Paul Calvisi, who sat down with Sharar to discuss his time at Iowa and what he hopes to accomplish as a rookie. Unfortunately, both players dealt with injuries during the offseason. Proctor's injury is expected to keep him out into the regular season.

Speaker 1: They were the only two defensive players the Cardinals drafted
Speaker 1: back in April. They are defensive lineman Caleb Proctor and
Speaker 1: inside linebacker Carson Shire. Got them both with me and
Speaker 1: Paul calve Seyberg Gang, we hear from the rookies their
Speaker 1: first impressions of the NFL game and how they may
Speaker 1: fit in. It's Cardinals Cover two, and it starts now.
Speaker 2: Welcome to Cardinals Cover two.
Speaker 1: Budda Baker, What Heart? What rent? This guy's unbelievable.
Speaker 2: Cardinals Cover two is presented by Hyundai, proud partner of
Speaker 2: the Arizona Cardinals, and by Arizona Cardinals Podcast. Visit Azycardinals
Speaker 2: dot com Slash podcast.
Speaker 1: Right at the five, hit the end zone for the
Speaker 1: Cardinal touchdown. Drey McBride, He's been an absolute monster.
Speaker 2: Here's Craig Grayolo.
Speaker 1: So it is always good to spotlight the rookies. Today
Speaker 1: we spotlight two defensive lineman Caleb Proctor out of Southeastern
Speaker 1: Louisiana and inside linebacker Carson Shire out of Iowa. At first,
Speaker 1: Caleb Proctor the fourth round pick, one hundred and fourth
Speaker 1: overall selection. Now, this conversation happened before we heard the
Speaker 1: news from head coach Mike Laflor, who announced during mandatory
Speaker 1: mini camp that Proctor suffered an injury, a knee injury,
Speaker 1: tore his meniscus and will miss some time, maybe even
Speaker 1: miss the entire season, which is really unfortunate for Caleb.
Speaker 1: But again this conversation happened before that news became official.
Speaker 1: And this also we did see Caleb on the field
Speaker 1: during rookie Mini caamp and some OTAs as well, So
Speaker 1: there has been appearances from Caleb Proctor and again always
Speaker 1: good to catch up with these players, but get to
Speaker 1: know them a little bit more as people. Here is
Speaker 1: the Southland Conference Player of the year, so I've got
Speaker 1: to know growing up with four brothers, three sisters, what
Speaker 1: was that Like some.
Speaker 3: Of my siblings, they were older than I was. So
Speaker 3: my closest age brother I got to go to. I
Speaker 3: live in the same house with him when he was
Speaker 3: maybe like a senior in high school. But like so
Speaker 3: far like after that, they're all much older with lives
Speaker 3: of their own. But like it's nice to have like
Speaker 3: role models to see them go throughout life, how they
Speaker 3: approach things, you know, and when a curveball is thrown
Speaker 3: at them, how they handle it.
Speaker 1: What's the biggest lesson then that you've learned watching them
Speaker 1: from your vantage point.
Speaker 3: Uh, Like I said, life's gonna throw your curveball. You
Speaker 3: know you gotta be ready for it. It's you know,
Speaker 3: you got to be ready to handle it. You know,
Speaker 3: handle it and be ready for anything that comes with
Speaker 3: you at life, you know, and how they handle things
Speaker 3: and how they approach their day to day lives and
Speaker 3: when there's a curveball thrown, you know what they do
Speaker 3: to what steps they take, you know, to make themselves
Speaker 3: you know, come out as a better person from that lesson.
Speaker 1: I read Baseball is or was your favorite sport?
Speaker 3: Oh yeah, yeah, big baseball fan. Oh yeah, Like I
Speaker 3: love baseball. I played baseball. So we had like a
Speaker 3: Dixie youth in my hometown. So I played. It's when
Speaker 3: you can set the ball up on a tee and
Speaker 3: hit it and run. I played like so long man,
Speaker 3: like basically my whole life.
Speaker 1: So when did football enter the picture or you realize, hey,
Speaker 1: football is something that I might be able to do
Speaker 1: as a job.
Speaker 3: Yeah, well it's a job that came you know, long after.
Speaker 3: But we had a Pop Warner League like ten minutes
Speaker 3: from my hometown. My mom drove this minivan and she
Speaker 3: signed me up one day, and then she signed up
Speaker 3: multiple people, like into my neighborhood and she would put
Speaker 3: us all in her minivan and take us to practices,
Speaker 3: and it just stuck.
Speaker 4: You know.
Speaker 3: I played from all six until maybe ten years old,
Speaker 3: and Pop Warner started middle school, and then it just
Speaker 3: carried on.
Speaker 1: More natural playing football than baseball.
Speaker 3: Yeah, definitely, definitely. I was a lot bigger than most
Speaker 3: people at the time, and then I got to high
Speaker 3: school and I was smaller than everybody. Like I got
Speaker 3: to my freshman year of high school, I probably was
Speaker 3: maybe like five nine and five eight, you know, very
Speaker 3: small kid. Yeah, it was. It was a dramatic growth spurt.
Speaker 3: But you know, up until like my junior year of
Speaker 3: high school, like collegiate level really wasn't even a thought,
Speaker 3: you know.
Speaker 1: So yeah, speaking of college, I want to get this correct.
Speaker 1: Your college head coach Frank Celfo described you as a
Speaker 1: special leader and human. Right, that is high praise. We'll
Speaker 1: get to you as a football player, but you as
Speaker 1: a person. What what makes you a special leader and human?
Speaker 3: I mean, first of all, you know, that's shout out
Speaker 3: to coach Soulfo. You know, he means a lot to me.
Speaker 3: And then you know this process and this journey that
Speaker 3: football has brought me. But I feel like, you know,
Speaker 3: just the way that I showed up on a day
Speaker 3: to day basis. I'm not a very vocal leader. You know,
Speaker 3: I led by example showing up doing the right things.
Speaker 3: You know, being on time, you know, not just being
Speaker 3: on time with a clock, but you know, being on
Speaker 3: time and when I'm where I'm at, being where my
Speaker 3: feet are, you know, being ready to go, like you're
Speaker 3: in a meeting, you got your hotel, you got your
Speaker 3: pen out, You're ready to go. When you're on the
Speaker 3: field and it's special teams, like you know what to
Speaker 3: do and you got your job, you know. So just
Speaker 3: doing those things, man, and just how I carry myself
Speaker 3: throughout that building, like I knew everybody, you know, that's
Speaker 3: my goal here, so everybody get a build a relationship
Speaker 3: with them. And yeah, that was a big thing back
Speaker 3: at Southeastern or everybody in the building.
Speaker 1: Now as far as Caleb Procter the player the south
Speaker 1: Land Conference Player of the Year, you're smiling here because
Speaker 1: you are the first defensive player to earn that recognition.
Speaker 1: From Southeastern Louisiana. What was that final season like for
Speaker 1: you in college?
Speaker 3: Man, it was great, Like it was you know, so
Speaker 3: I had a chance to leave obviously my junior year.
Speaker 3: So coming back it was like, all right, you know,
Speaker 3: if all these things are being thrown at you, all
Speaker 3: this money's been thrown at you, obviously like, hey, there's
Speaker 3: a chance you could play at the next level. So
Speaker 3: in my mind, it was like, I want to deal
Speaker 3: with the guys that I came in with, but ultimately,
Speaker 3: like I need to prove it to myself that I
Speaker 3: can do these things. So it was showing up on
Speaker 3: a day to day basis perfecting my craft, you know.
Speaker 3: And I credit everything that I did that season to
Speaker 3: the guys that I was playing beside, you know, like
Speaker 3: we played for each other. Everything that we did was
Speaker 3: you know, it was it was coming out of love
Speaker 3: and heart for the guy next to you, because I
Speaker 3: knew how heart he was going and he knew how
Speaker 3: hard I was going. So that season meant it meant
Speaker 3: the world to me.
Speaker 1: And because of that season, you were the first FCS
Speaker 1: player to hear their name called during the draft. Big
Speaker 1: deal not a big deal?
Speaker 3: Uh, it really wasn't a big deal. Like I didn't
Speaker 3: even really know, you know, I was just waiting on
Speaker 3: my name to be called. But it was an honor
Speaker 3: to be called and represent my school, like represents Southeastern
Speaker 3: the love that they've shown me before it happened and
Speaker 3: even after, man and it means a lot. You know,
Speaker 3: that place forever holds a you know, a special place
Speaker 3: in my heart.
Speaker 1: A lot of people point to your performance against LSU
Speaker 1: two sacks, three tackles for loss. Is that the game
Speaker 1: you think maybe you started showing up on the radar
Speaker 1: of NFL teams.
Speaker 3: I guess you could say that. But like like like
Speaker 3: going back to the like me coming back aspect of it, like,
Speaker 3: you know, gonna finish out my senior year obviously, you know,
Speaker 3: you take a look at the schedule, like, hey, you
Speaker 3: got two games you got love Tech in your LSU.
Speaker 3: Those two games you need to be on your best.
Speaker 3: You know, you need to bring everything you got to
Speaker 3: the table, because it's not like I'm one of these
Speaker 3: SEC schools who see that type of talent on a
Speaker 3: weekly basis, you know, so definitely that game going in
Speaker 3: to me was like, all right, you need to prove
Speaker 3: it to yourself that you can play with the best
Speaker 3: of the best. So that was my mindset going in
Speaker 3: and after that game, I came out more confident than ever,
Speaker 3: you know, And so I would say, like, yeah, that
Speaker 3: definitely puts some people on notice.
Speaker 1: Did that confidence carry over then at the East West
Speaker 1: Shrine game and that entire week because you were named
Speaker 1: to the West All Practice team as well.
Speaker 3: Yeah. So I'll be honest, like I was nervous, man,
Speaker 3: I was so much to anxiety going into that game, because,
Speaker 3: like I said, you get there and you see Texas
Speaker 3: A and m Alabama, all these big name schools who
Speaker 3: see good talent or you know, like sec talent on
Speaker 3: a weekly basis. And so I remember, I'll tell you
Speaker 3: a quick story. We were we were doing one on
Speaker 3: we were in Indian we were about to do one
Speaker 3: on ones, and I'm nervous, man. I'm like, jeez, I
Speaker 3: don't know what's gonna happen, Like, I don't know how
Speaker 3: this is gonna go. But you know, I'm trusting the process.
Speaker 3: I'm trusting everything I've done up until that point. And
Speaker 3: so we go over to one on one. So I'm like,
Speaker 3: you know, screw it, I'm gonna go first, and I
Speaker 3: go first, and I get up and I throw my move,
Speaker 3: you know, the move that I've thrown my whole life,
Speaker 3: my entire FCS career, and it works. And you know,
Speaker 3: from that moment for it, I you know, I told
Speaker 3: myself like, hey, you can do this. But like I
Speaker 3: you know, I remind myself, like you are just a man,
Speaker 3: like it's gonna take more than you know, just it's
Speaker 3: gonna take more than more, you know. But that moment
Speaker 3: right there, it definitely just through my confidence, through the rust, like, hey,
Speaker 3: you can do this. You can ball with these guys.
Speaker 1: The one thing that has come up about you is
Speaker 1: your size six ninety one, maybe a bit undersize for
Speaker 1: your position. So what you may lack in size, you
Speaker 1: make up for and what.
Speaker 3: Uh you know, just character knowledge and the ball understanding,
Speaker 3: Like hey, understanding my weaknesses. You know, I'm not somebody
Speaker 3: I understand, like, hey, I might be a little bit
Speaker 3: behind the eight ball because I am a little smaller,
Speaker 3: but I understand that. I understand like, hey, you got
Speaker 3: to play with great technique, great hand placement, and great leverage.
Speaker 3: You're already smaller, you know, So just understanding the details
Speaker 3: of the game in my position and you know what
Speaker 3: my weakness are.
Speaker 1: Yeah, details matter. By the way. For as much talk
Speaker 1: about Caleb Proctor and his size, he's six' two two ninety,
Speaker 1: one by the, way really interesting to hear him say
Speaker 1: that as a freshman in high school he was five
Speaker 1: eight five nine and, then in his, words a dramatic growth.
Speaker 1: Spurt but just keep this in my bird, Gang Aaron
Speaker 1: donald six' one two. Eighty so you can be undersize
Speaker 1: and still be. Productive And i'm not Saying Aaron donald
Speaker 1: Or i'm not Saying caleb is the Next Aaron, donald
Speaker 1: but it's not it's not un it's not unlikely that
Speaker 1: we see someone like this as far as his, size
Speaker 1: having an impact or having a major role on all
Speaker 1: that defensive front for The, cardinals because as you look
Speaker 1: at that defensive, Line Walter, Nolan Darius, ROBINSON. Lj, Collier Dante, STILLS.
Speaker 1: Pj mustifer all back and then you bring in A
Speaker 1: Roy lopez and An Andrew, Billings Jana williams as, well
Speaker 1: those final three free. Agents SO i do think there
Speaker 1: was going to be a role For caleb this, season
Speaker 1: and who, knows maybe there still might. Be it just
Speaker 1: was gonna be a little bit later then he or
Speaker 1: The cardinals would have. Liked, still you gotta like the
Speaker 1: size at six two two ninety one because of the
Speaker 1: skill set and the athleticism of A Caleb proctor who
Speaker 1: could have Left Southeastern louisiana and there was money to
Speaker 1: be made to go to a bigger, school but he
Speaker 1: chose to stay with his, friends stay with his, teammates
Speaker 1: AND i think he's better for. It and, then as
Speaker 1: he said THAT lsu game in which he had a
Speaker 1: couple of sacks and a couple of tackles for loss,
Speaker 1: QUOTE i came out more confident than. Ever we'll see
Speaker 1: about his confidence when he returns to the field, again
Speaker 1: hopefully sooner rather than, later but not someone that, again
Speaker 1: the role this season might not be what he. Anticipates
Speaker 1: but it's AS i said this with every draft, pick
Speaker 1: it's not it's about that particular. Season it's for seasons to.
Speaker 1: Come even though Your day three, pick fourth round, selection
Speaker 1: certainly hope to see a lot OF. Kayleb proctor in the.
Speaker 1: Future here with The Arizona. Cardinals the other defensive player
Speaker 1: The cardinals selector remember seven draft, picks just two defensive
Speaker 1: players From caleb how about we hear now From Carson
Speaker 1: shire six, one two thirty one inside linebacker out Of.
Speaker 1: Iowa he was The cardinals sixth round, selection one hundred
Speaker 1: and eighty third. Overall here he is With Paul.
Speaker 5: Calvic all, RIGHT i think the intensity in this radio
Speaker 5: studio just went up big time because we've got a
Speaker 5: linebacker in the, Room Carson, shire round six. Rookie the
Speaker 5: term linebacker Eyes, carson you know the eyes you see
Speaker 5: you know the famous you KNOW iso shots you get ON?
Speaker 5: Tv do you get that way in game? Day if
Speaker 5: we get AN iso right through the face? Mask what
Speaker 5: do your eyes look like on a third and?
Speaker 1: Two?
Speaker 4: YEAH i think just being ready to go and just
Speaker 4: really step and being really intense out there and just
Speaker 4: being able to lead the defense and just trying to
Speaker 4: make a play for the team and trying to change the.
Speaker 1: Game what is your personality like on a game?
Speaker 4: Day you, KNOW i might not be the loudest, guy
Speaker 4: but you know on the field that the intensity is
Speaker 4: definitely up a notch and you know that energy is,
Speaker 4: relentless AND i Think i'm just out there flying around
Speaker 4: trying to make every play possible and just just trying
Speaker 4: to change the game for the. Team all, right and we'll.
Speaker 1: Get to the football in a.
Speaker 5: Minute tell us about the, moment the moment you were
Speaker 5: drafted by The. Cardinals you're so set the scene for.
Speaker 5: Us you're at home In Iowa, Falls.
Speaker 4: Yep that is. Correct SO i was at home with my,
Speaker 4: Parents my, mom, dad and my sister are just hanging
Speaker 4: out on the couch and you, know just just waiting
Speaker 4: for that. Call and you, KNOW i was really speechless
Speaker 4: when WHEN i saw that call, come AND i was
Speaker 4: just really excited, that you, know they called, me AND
Speaker 4: i was just really eager to talk to them and
Speaker 4: see what they had to, say and just grateful for
Speaker 4: them giving me this. Chance And i'm really excited to
Speaker 4: get to.
Speaker 1: WORK i, mean you always hear you work your whole
Speaker 1: life for that. Moment true or? False that is that
Speaker 1: is there a lot of accuracy in.
Speaker 4: That that is. True, Yes ever SINCE i started playing,
Speaker 4: ball you, know that was that was a goal of,
Speaker 4: mine or in a dream of, mine to try to
Speaker 4: make it to this. Level So i'm really excited to
Speaker 4: be here and ready to.
Speaker 5: Go you ever heard Of Kurt, Warner iowa Native hall
Speaker 5: Of fame quarterback Former Cardinal Kurt.
Speaker 1: Warner, yes, OKAY i.
Speaker 5: Have he used to tell us in the as a side,
Speaker 5: job he would detassel.
Speaker 1: Corn is that what it? Was, yes all, Right jimal mart.
Speaker 5: Gives so did you ever do any of, that any
Speaker 5: like odd Jobs iowa's style when you were growing, up
Speaker 5: any of that sort of.
Speaker 4: Stuff, yeah WELL i never did. That, Actually I've i've
Speaker 4: heard that's pretty that's pretty intense there in the. Summer
Speaker 4: but my, dad he has a construction, company SO i
Speaker 4: helped out with him quite a bit growing up and
Speaker 4: poured some concrete and did a lot of work. There
Speaker 4: so it was kind of, fun getting a little blue
Speaker 4: collar work and it was just a great opportunity to
Speaker 4: learn and get my hands dirty.
Speaker 5: And nothing like doing construction for dad to get a
Speaker 5: little work. Ethic and you're, right, exactly that's good. Stuff
Speaker 5: Carson schier is our. Guest tell us about your passion
Speaker 5: for the. Game we've Heard Mike laflor say you can
Speaker 5: flip on, film especially during the draft evaluation process and
Speaker 5: tell if a guy loves the game of, football would
Speaker 5: that be?
Speaker 1: You are you that? Guy?
Speaker 4: Yeah, absolutely you, KNOW i just love you, know every
Speaker 4: aspect of the, game just no matter what it is you,
Speaker 4: know going out there on the, field going out there
Speaker 4: in the game and, practice you, know in the in
Speaker 4: the film. ROOM i think just going through your business
Speaker 4: with detailed and just leaning on your, preparation especially in
Speaker 4: the film, room and then being able to go out
Speaker 4: there on the field and, EXECUTE i think is a
Speaker 4: really cool.
Speaker 5: Thing IF i asked you your biggest hit in college
Speaker 5: for The Iowah, hawkeyes does a memory does a highlight
Speaker 5: come to? Mind and the REASON i asked is we
Speaker 5: pose that same question recently to Mac wilson, senior the
Speaker 5: leader of your linebacker, room and he immediately answered it
Speaker 5: was early last Season september against the forty nine ers
Speaker 5: with the fourth down swing pass To christian. McCaffrey, Oh
Speaker 5: Mac Wilson senior DESTROYED cmc on that is there is
Speaker 5: there a you have of?
Speaker 1: It especially big. Hit.
Speaker 4: Yeah so actually on Against nebraska this past, SEASON i
Speaker 4: was on the punk cover team and we were just
Speaker 4: running down and the punt returner kind of he didn't
Speaker 4: he didn't see me, coming and uh kind of caught
Speaker 4: him off guard and had a little force fumble there
Speaker 4: and got got a. Safety so it was a pretty
Speaker 4: cool moment and swing the game a little.
Speaker 5: Bit you had a good head of steam going four
Speaker 5: five six. FORTY i, mean tell us about your. Athleticism
Speaker 5: forty inch. Vertical we had Assistant Jim Dave sears and
Speaker 5: here recently, said you're a heck of a. Hooper you
Speaker 5: play a mean game of basketball with a forty inch.
Speaker 5: Vertical i'm guessing you can.
Speaker 4: Finish, yeah oh, yeah of, course you know that's that's
Speaker 4: fun part of the. Game but, Yeah i've played a
Speaker 4: lot of basketball growing up and just enjoyed going out
Speaker 4: there and, competing and, yeah definitely helped me help my
Speaker 4: athleticism and get out of there on the field. Too.
Speaker 5: Well one takeaway THAT i have over all the years
Speaker 5: of That cardinals locker. ROOM i think you're gonna find this.
Speaker 5: Out everybody in there thinks they can, ball everyone thinks
Speaker 5: they can play. Basketball BUT i think you have some
Speaker 5: good credit on. That tell me about the other Thing
Speaker 5: Dave sears told us about was the caliber of coaching
Speaker 5: At iowa and just just sort of the CONFIDENCE nfl
Speaker 5: evaluators have in players from that.
Speaker 1: Program tell us about.
Speaker 5: That tell us about how you've improved as a player
Speaker 5: over your five years, there and what is it about
Speaker 5: the culture or the.
Speaker 4: Coaching, YEAH i think the culture there is on. Match you,
Speaker 4: know ever Since i've been, there no coaches have really.
Speaker 4: Left and Coach farns has been there for over twenty five,
Speaker 4: years and he does a great job leading the program
Speaker 4: and just he really treats it like it's one of
Speaker 4: the professional program and really wants to see it at
Speaker 4: it succeed at the high level and just holds everyone
Speaker 4: to a very high. Standard as well as my position,
Speaker 4: coach defensive coordinator and special teams. Coach you, know they
Speaker 4: all they're great coaches and they really know how to
Speaker 4: get the best out of you and how to teach
Speaker 4: teach the, game and you, KNOW i just Think i'm
Speaker 4: really grateful for, them and they just do a great
Speaker 4: job preparing you to play and get to the next.
Speaker 5: Level Carson shire's our Guest round six rookie out Of.
Speaker 5: Iowa you played in forty eight games in, college you
Speaker 5: had thirteen. STARTS i, mean how much were you chomping
Speaker 5: in the bit to be a starter your last?
Speaker 1: Year?
Speaker 4: OH i really. Was you, KNOW i was really excited
Speaker 4: to finally get that opportunity to go out, there AND
Speaker 4: i was really grateful for my, coaches and they taught
Speaker 4: me well and just just helped me get out there
Speaker 4: and succeed out there on the.
Speaker 1: Field what are you most proud of last?
Speaker 5: Season because you put up a lot of, numbers including four,
Speaker 5: sacks you had what a dozen tackles for. Loss looks
Speaker 5: like you have a pretty good ability getting into the.
Speaker 4: Backfield, yeah, YEAH i, KNOW i just pretty instinctual. Guys
Speaker 4: SO i think just being out there and just knowing
Speaker 4: the game plan and being able to execute my job
Speaker 4: and then just just hold my teammates and then just
Speaker 4: just working together to try to win the. GAME i,
Speaker 4: think you, know AT, iowa that's that's the biggest, thing
Speaker 4: is just the teamwork, aspect and everyone has their job
Speaker 4: and trying to win the one on one battle and
Speaker 4: just being able to go out there and execute and
Speaker 4: play at a high level for each.
Speaker 5: Other you, know one of these kind of reports said
Speaker 5: he's rarely fooled by. Misdirection they complimented your FOOTBALL. Iq
Speaker 5: how confident do you, feel you, know reading reacting seek and?
Speaker 5: Destroy you, know do you consider that a strength in your?
Speaker 4: Game, Yeah i'm very instinctual. Player you, KNOW i not
Speaker 4: fooled by. MUCH i can see the ball And i'll
Speaker 4: go get the. Ball and that all comes with your
Speaker 4: preparation and your film study based on the opponents at
Speaker 4: tendencies and just seeing what they what they like to,
Speaker 4: do and then just just seeing it come out and
Speaker 4: on the.
Speaker 5: Field so how curious he are you to find out
Speaker 5: how advanced these pro offenses?
Speaker 4: Are?
Speaker 1: Right they can get pretty, complex pretty.
Speaker 4: Advanced, Yeah, no you never know what's gonna, Come so you,
Speaker 4: KNOW i always got to lean lean on your preparation
Speaker 4: and make sure you're in the film room and just
Speaker 4: making sure you're always prepared for what's.
Speaker 1: Coming tell us about special.
Speaker 5: Teams five hundred and forty five snaps on special, teams
Speaker 5: And i'll Cite Buddha, baker eight Time pro bowler his
Speaker 5: first year went to The Pro bowl on special. Teams
Speaker 5: Tyron matthew was the starting safety at that. Point and
Speaker 5: there's one word they used to Describe buddha on special
Speaker 5: teams THAT i see in Your scotter report. Fearless so
Speaker 5: tell us about your mentality on special.
Speaker 4: Teams, yeah you, Know i've ever SINCE i got To.
Speaker 4: Iowa that was the biggest thing preach, is you, know
Speaker 4: starting off on special teams and Coach. Woods he does
Speaker 4: a great, job you, know emphasizing that and giving you that,
Speaker 4: opportunity AND i, think you, know just getting that opportunity
Speaker 4: at a young age and just being able to go
Speaker 4: out there and have fun and. Compete you, know just
Speaker 4: just bringing it every single play and not not taking a,
Speaker 4: PLAYOFF i think is the biggest. Thing just always giving
Speaker 4: your full effort and then just knowing what what the
Speaker 4: opponent's going to give, you and then just being able
Speaker 4: to execute those looks and and just fly around and
Speaker 4: make make a.
Speaker 1: Play Longtime cardinal. Fantasy, yeah Former Cardinal LeVar. Woods so AND.
Speaker 5: I know you had The zoom call With Rod wilson
Speaker 5: right before the. Draft just what were your, takeaways you
Speaker 5: know in that call with Coach Wilson and at that
Speaker 5: point you get a little inkling maybe The cardinals might
Speaker 5: be your.
Speaker 1: Destination.
Speaker 4: Yeah, NO I i had a great time meeting with Coach.
Speaker 4: Wilson you, know he's he's a great coach and really
Speaker 4: really nice guy and great great to learn, from and you,
Speaker 4: Know i'm just really excited to get to know him
Speaker 4: even better and learn learn more from, him and really
Speaker 4: excited to you, know get to work with.
Speaker 5: Him all, Right, carson you ready to do the rookie
Speaker 5: Do by the, way you, know If Mac Wilson senior
Speaker 5: needs some donuts on A friday or something like, that
Speaker 5: you're ready to go with. That.
Speaker 4: Yeah, absolutely whatever they, Need i'm good for.
Speaker 1: It, okay all, Right, carson great to meet. You thanks
Speaker 1: all the. Best thank. You rookie, Duties, Yeah carson better
Speaker 1: be ready for those rookie. Duties and some position rooms
Speaker 1: are easier or harder on their rookies than. OTHERS i
Speaker 1: think offensive linemen tend to be a little bit harder
Speaker 1: on their. Rookies, certainly it does matter how many players
Speaker 1: you have in a particular. Room as far as inside,
Speaker 1: Linebackers you've got, six Including Carson, shier who we didn't
Speaker 1: see a ton of during the. Offseason he was working
Speaker 1: off on the, side we find out, later much Like Caleb,
Speaker 1: proctor but not nearly as. Serious but head Coach Michael
Speaker 1: flora outs during mandatory mini camp That shire have been
Speaker 1: dealing with a hamstring, injury but he should be good
Speaker 1: to go once training camp, begins and that Is july twenty.
Speaker 1: Second the team reports first Practice july twenty, third AND
Speaker 1: i can See shire as one of those players who
Speaker 1: has a, role maybe even an immediate role because of
Speaker 1: his ability to play special. Teams he has played a
Speaker 1: lot of special, teams AND i think that's where these,
Speaker 1: rookies especially when you hear your name called on day,
Speaker 1: three that's how you get on the field the quickest
Speaker 1: to be able to play on special. Teams And, shire
Speaker 1: even though he may not be the, biggest you can
Speaker 1: play special. Teams know the ends and the, outs the
Speaker 1: smarts and some. Tricks you can develop into a special teams.
Speaker 1: Player you have a uniform on game day and then
Speaker 1: all of a, sudden you're up and ready to go
Speaker 1: if there is an injury at your. Position so keep
Speaker 1: an eye On. Kaisher Carson. Shire maybe not the loudest,
Speaker 1: guy but the intensity that you see out Of shire
Speaker 1: does increase on the field on game, day AND i
Speaker 1: think that's what you saw At. Iowa but Both carson
Speaker 1: And caleb talked about the need on special, teams and
Speaker 1: certainly without the benefit of Having Caleb proctor on the
Speaker 1: field right, Away Carson, SHIRE i think is gonna be
Speaker 1: that defensive player that The cardinals do, see and maybe
Speaker 1: even sooner rather than later because of his ability to
Speaker 1: play special teams love hearing the journey that these players
Speaker 1: take in their playing. Careers once you arrive in the,
Speaker 1: building you are. Here doesn't matter when you heard your,
Speaker 1: name caled or how you got. Here you're a part
Speaker 1: of a ninety man roster with the goal to get
Speaker 1: to that final fifty. Three and these are two players
Speaker 1: In Kayleb proctor And Carson shire that hopefully knock on
Speaker 1: wood have long careers with The Arizona, cardinals but always
Speaker 1: good to catch up with those two players and hear
Speaker 1: how they became An Arizona cardinal Player special thanks to
Speaker 1: not Only Caleb proctor And carson S paul Calvic aswall
Speaker 1: and everyone behind the scenes are executive Producer Jim Mamma
Speaker 1: Hedra our associate Producer Cuddy. Fincher we'll talk to you
Speaker 1: next time here On Cardinals cover. Two
