Speaker 1: Parrisit dies for the end zone, he said, Touchdow How
Speaker 1: what a pick at the thirty five yard line by
Speaker 1: Mac Wilson.
Speaker 2: Welcome to Cardinals Underground, presented by the Arizona Cardinals mobile app.
Speaker 2: Visit Azycardinals dot Com slash app.
Speaker 1: Sacked by Walter Nolan. Pulled in by Wilson for a touchdown.
Speaker 3: The latest news and notes from the insiders who cover
Speaker 3: the team.
Speaker 1: Touched down Tray McBride.
Speaker 4: Heck of a play by the all world tight end.
Speaker 4: Tray McBride. Oh, that was nasty right there, right.
Speaker 1: Slam to the ground by fooda baker Like a torpedo.
Speaker 1: He came flying into the backfield.
Speaker 3: Here's Craig dreelud.
Speaker 4: We've all seen Back to the Future?
Speaker 3: Correct, yes, correct, one of my favorite movies of all time.
Speaker 4: Have we seen the sequel?
Speaker 3: Unfortunately?
Speaker 5: Okay, there's three?
Speaker 3: Right? Yeah?
Speaker 5: Is the sequel the Western one.
Speaker 3: That's the third one.
Speaker 5: I've seen that. I think I've seen the original like twice,
Speaker 5: and I've seen the second and third once.
Speaker 2: The second one was when Marty fins they go to almanac.
Speaker 5: That's always a future they go to the Okay, I
Speaker 5: think that's right.
Speaker 2: Yeah, go to the future and the Sports al Almanac
Speaker 2: gets in the wrong hands.
Speaker 5: Yes, but I don't really remember details.
Speaker 2: But the details on that doesn't matter. It's the Sports
Speaker 2: Almanac that I would love to get my hands on
Speaker 2: because in the movie it was nineteen fifty to two thousand.
Speaker 3: So you want to cheat the system.
Speaker 2: Absolutely, if I had that for twenty twenty five through
Speaker 2: twenty thirty five, just think of the things.
Speaker 3: That well, especially now with all the gambling.
Speaker 4: None of my current role, of course, of course not.
Speaker 4: But if I were to.
Speaker 2: Separate from my current role, which you would if I
Speaker 2: had this.
Speaker 3: Sport, because if you had this almanac, you would then
Speaker 3: quit and then just be that guy.
Speaker 4: I would be that guy on my phone.
Speaker 5: You quit, like if you won the lottery, you'd quit
Speaker 5: your job.
Speaker 4: How much money are we talking here, Danny? You know what?
Speaker 4: Working here on Cardinals Underground price.
Speaker 3: I think that I would not quit my job.
Speaker 5: I don't think i'd quit my job, mostly because I
Speaker 5: think I would go crazy with nothing to do every day.
Speaker 5: I might go to Darren and say part time, but
Speaker 5: I don't think i'd quit my job.
Speaker 3: I would not quit my job. You would quit your job.
Speaker 5: You would go you would get something.
Speaker 3: This is money. This is money that you could retire on.
Speaker 3: Correct not correct, I'm saying, oh, you're telling me, Oh,
Speaker 3: I'm telling you.
Speaker 5: How long would I work? I don't know. I could
Speaker 5: very easily hop on a fly and go live across.
Speaker 3: This is one of those ones where Danny says, I
Speaker 3: wouldn't quit and then the first time she gets frustrated
Speaker 3: with something like peace out.
Speaker 4: I'm available between weeks one and the super Bowl.
Speaker 5: Yeah, that's good, that's good.
Speaker 3: That put you on a contract there, Cardinal talks great
Speaker 3: and Cardinals underground and oh you could do underground, but
Speaker 3: you could do Cardinal stock. And when somebody irritated you say,
Speaker 3: do you do you know who I am?
Speaker 5: Do you know I'm here just because I want to be.
Speaker 4: I'm just here so I get paid?
Speaker 3: Boy, did we get That's a whole nother podcast us.
Speaker 2: But having this sports almanac or knowing what happens in
Speaker 2: the future, So how about we come up with some
Speaker 2: things that we hope to manifest come true for the
Speaker 2: Arizona Cardinals or the National Football League in twenty twenty six, with.
Speaker 5: One request that if at least I'm super wrong, please
Speaker 5: don't click this and remind me. But if I'm super.
Speaker 3: Right, give Daniel's let's all remind everybody that when we
Speaker 3: did this last year, Danny was quick to tell us
Speaker 3: all how right she was and how wrong we were.
Speaker 2: So well, that's what you do when you're right, yep,
Speaker 2: and everyone else is wrong.
Speaker 3: And I just want to clarify something. You said, things
Speaker 3: we hope would happen, like I don't know if I
Speaker 3: necessarily hope, but what you think, what I think you think?
Speaker 2: Okay, that's a better word, what we think happens in
Speaker 2: twenty twenty six. Some predictions, if you will, who wants
Speaker 2: to go first?
Speaker 3: I have a bonus one? Could I do a bonus one?
Speaker 2: I believe on the rundown it says each of the
Speaker 2: three come.
Speaker 4: Up with two. Yeah. Yeah, but I had all of
Speaker 4: a sudden, there's a bonus one.
Speaker 3: Well, I'm just saying I'm going to predict that number
Speaker 3: eleven gets retired this year.
Speaker 4: Way to go out only, thank you?
Speaker 3: Okay, I'll do I'll do my first one. Uh. My
Speaker 3: first prediction is that Will Johnson will have at least
Speaker 3: five interceptions.
Speaker 5: I love it.
Speaker 3: I think I think it's burning at him that he
Speaker 3: didn't get any last.
Speaker 4: Year, he was so close had one.
Speaker 3: Right, and I think that that bugs him. I think
Speaker 3: I like Will, He's a really good kid. He definitely
Speaker 3: wants to build his brand and to build your brand
Speaker 3: and to be the kind of all pro Pro Bowl guy,
Speaker 3: you're going to need some of those stats, and I
Speaker 3: think he's going to be ultra focused to get that done.
Speaker 3: So I think and and and I think at this point,
Speaker 3: we all know that he is going to be CB one,
Speaker 3: so he's going to be out there, so you know,
Speaker 3: so if he gets five interceptions, that also means he
Speaker 3: stays healthy, which I'm also predicting that he mostly stays
Speaker 3: healthy seventeen games. If you can get fourteen fifteen games,
Speaker 3: I mean, I'm not naive. Guys are going to miss
Speaker 3: a game here and there. Possibly you don't want him
Speaker 3: missing more than that, but I think if he's on
Speaker 3: the field, he's got a chance to have a nice season.
Speaker 4: Any reason why he settled on number five.
Speaker 3: As opposed to six or five is a pretty big number.
Speaker 3: And if you go back and look like there have
Speaker 3: been over the last decade or fifteen years, I mean,
Speaker 3: in this team, you don't have guys getting that many
Speaker 3: and here's the other thing. If you get a guy
Speaker 3: who starts making picks, they don't throw it his way anymore.
Speaker 3: So it's really hard. I mean when Patrick Peterson, when
Speaker 3: Patrick Peterson was in his prime, he had five picks
Speaker 3: one year, and I think they all came in a clump,
Speaker 3: and then after that year, and that was early in
Speaker 3: his career, like he was getting one and two. And
Speaker 3: it's not because he wasn't any good. They just weren't
Speaker 3: going to be stupid enough to throw in his direction.
Speaker 3: Dureu Reeves didn't have a bunch of interceptions in their
Speaker 3: career as it went along, because who the hell's thrown
Speaker 3: against them? So I think ultimately, I think ultimately five
Speaker 3: is that's a nice chunky number.
Speaker 5: I was in the same realm as you for my
Speaker 5: first prediction. Okay, Walterner on the third is gonna have
Speaker 5: a double digit sack season. Whoa Okay, whoao is right?
Speaker 5: Twenty five and twenty twenty five he played in six games.
Speaker 5: It's really more like five because he didn't finish, yeah,
Speaker 5: half of two of those games, so we'll roughly say
Speaker 5: five games he played. The numbers he put up two sacks,
Speaker 5: five tackles, for lost, five QB hits, two passes, defense,
Speaker 5: one fumble recovery. He's got the motor in the skill
Speaker 5: set to be disruptive. I know they lost Kalais Campbell,
Speaker 5: was their best defensive lineman and free agency, but they
Speaker 5: brought back Roy Lopez. They brought back a mountain of
Speaker 5: a man, a refrigerator or a brick, whatever you want
Speaker 5: to call. Andrew Billings, who's listed at three p forty.
Speaker 5: I think generous, generous of how big he is and
Speaker 5: in the troll he could cause there, and especially if
Speaker 5: you're able to get the consistency in the pass rush
Speaker 5: from a Joshua maybe a little more from a bi
Speaker 5: Joju Larie jordan Burg, that's obviously going to help someone
Speaker 5: like Walter Nolan if the offense is having to account
Speaker 5: for more players in the line of scrimmage down in
Speaker 5: the trenches. From what we saw from Nolan and the
Speaker 5: few instances he played as a rookie last year were spectacular.
Speaker 5: He was constantly in the backfield, even if it didn't
Speaker 5: account to a sack or QB hit, he was forcing
Speaker 5: that quarterback to roll out of the pocket to get
Speaker 5: rid of the ball. It was an incomplete pass, it
Speaker 5: was a tackle for loss from a running back, whatever
Speaker 5: it was, we saw really great things consistently from Nolan.
Speaker 5: It sounds like from what we've heard from Mike Lafleura
Speaker 5: that we can expect Nolan to be healthy at the
Speaker 5: start of training camp from that knee injury that took
Speaker 5: him out the second half of the season last year.
Speaker 5: So if he can stay healthy, I think it's plausible
Speaker 5: that with a full offseason, better understanding of this defense,
Speaker 5: and if he can really get rolling and he can
Speaker 5: find some momentum, I think that it's very plausible that
Speaker 5: no one could have a double digit sexe when.
Speaker 3: You're getting double digit sacks from an interior defensive lineman's
Speaker 3: I understand.
Speaker 5: But again from what we have seen, and it would
Speaker 5: also be great because this pass rush has not been
Speaker 5: anything to write home about outside of Joshuat, So I
Speaker 5: would love for it to happen. And that's that's my prediction.
Speaker 2: We are all told to select two, So I'm gonna
Speaker 2: go with this one because it does coincide with each
Speaker 2: one of yours.
Speaker 4: Okay, bj O JILARI will flirt with double digit secks.
Speaker 5: Wow, heyo. So we're talking to At least he's twenty
Speaker 5: sacks just from two players.
Speaker 2: If that happens, because I looked it up, BJ would
Speaker 2: double his career total. He has five in his three seasons,
Speaker 2: missed all of twenty twenty four.
Speaker 4: This is a.
Speaker 2: Contract year for BJ, so yes, he is motivated. But
Speaker 2: even beyond that, I think he is motivated to prove
Speaker 2: his draft selection where he was. I mean, the second
Speaker 2: round pick that carries expectations, carries weight, and some bad luck,
Speaker 2: BJ has not been available. And if you do have
Speaker 2: him get to eight, nine, ten sacks, to me, it's
Speaker 2: answered one of the bigger questions that this team has
Speaker 2: had for a long time. Forget Josh Wett, but where
Speaker 2: is that other pass rusher coming from? Can bjo Juli
Speaker 2: be that guy opposite Josh Wet? Can he be the
Speaker 2: Marcus Golden to Chandler Jones.
Speaker 3: Let me ask you to this question before we move
Speaker 3: on to any other predictions, based on what you guys
Speaker 3: just did. What would be a bigger deal for this team?
Speaker 3: If Nolan did what you say, or if o Jeli
Speaker 3: did what you.
Speaker 2: Say, it would be a I'm gonna answer it to it.
Speaker 2: It would be a bigger surprise for me anyway, if
Speaker 2: BJ did it because of what we've seen from Walter,
Speaker 2: but I think it would be more beneficial.
Speaker 3: For the team. That's what I'm asking if it was because.
Speaker 2: Of the edge rush and that position group overall agreed.
Speaker 3: I don't. I don't care about surprise. I'm saying what means,
Speaker 3: what is has greater meaning in the great, great.
Speaker 5: Scheme of it because it's been a few a few
Speaker 5: years since you've really had more than one pass rusher
Speaker 5: consistently make a difference, at least in.
Speaker 3: Term you're talking about rusher.
Speaker 5: An edge rusher, at least in terms of getting sacks.
Speaker 5: I know that there's more impact in a game outside
Speaker 5: of just hitting that number, but that's something that we
Speaker 5: need to see from this defense, from your outside linebackers
Speaker 5: and getting to the quarterback more consistently. So I would
Speaker 5: say in terms of that and kind of getting validation
Speaker 5: for that draft pick, who's an Ojali's been around for
Speaker 5: longer than Nolan. I know he hasn't been available, but
Speaker 5: he's been around longer than Nolan. Would I would go
Speaker 5: with Ojeli.
Speaker 3: Because making the edge rusher point is a big part
Speaker 3: of that. Because you're also saying you get a double
Speaker 3: digit sack guy from Nolan, so you'd have sweat Nolan.
Speaker 3: I just I tend to agree because I think, quite frankly,
Speaker 3: I think Walter Nolan can make a big impact on
Speaker 3: this team even if he doesn't get a lot of sacks.
Speaker 3: Ojelari would need to get sacks, so I do think
Speaker 3: a greater impact there.
Speaker 2: Yeah, statistically you would need to see it out of
Speaker 2: BJ versus Walter, and no matter whom it is, whether
Speaker 2: it's Walter or BJ, it would mean your prediction would
Speaker 2: come true because now all of a sudden, uarterbacks are
Speaker 2: getting rid of the ball a lot quicker.
Speaker 3: See it all works together, all right? Are we on
Speaker 3: to round two?
Speaker 4: Round two?
Speaker 3: My second prediction is that tight end Trey McBride will
Speaker 3: have fewer than one hundred catches.
Speaker 4: That is not unrealistic.
Speaker 3: Well, okay, I just think. I know he's had two
Speaker 3: years in a row of one hundred catches, but I
Speaker 3: think at this point, especially adding Jeremiah Love into the mix.
Speaker 3: You know, again, this is counting on Michael Wilson continuing
Speaker 3: to trend upwards. This is assuming Marvin Harrison stays healthy
Speaker 3: and gets better. But I just think the options for
Speaker 3: all those catches. I think they were almost necessary the
Speaker 3: last couple of years, whereas you'll have the ability to
Speaker 3: I mean, I'm not saying Trey McBride's gonna have a
Speaker 3: bad year or that he's not going to be the
Speaker 3: best tight end in the league. He just would be
Speaker 3: under triple digits for catches, and I think that could
Speaker 3: bode well for the offense rather than it being a
Speaker 3: bad thing.
Speaker 5: Not unrealistic. Twenty twenty five, I McBride had one hundred
Speaker 5: and twenty six catches and twenty four. It was one
Speaker 5: hundred and eleven and twenty three. It was eighty one
Speaker 5: and twenty two. Is rookie hardly play behind zach Ertz.
Speaker 5: That was thirty nine, but it would have been three
Speaker 5: years since he had less than one hundred catches.
Speaker 3: Well, and let's also make clear the year he had
Speaker 3: eighty one, he basically was not getting any targets the
Speaker 3: first third of the season because of zach Ertz. So
Speaker 3: like if you look and when he since he has
Speaker 3: been tight end one. So once Ertz got hurt, if
Speaker 3: you do the math, he's he was on one hundred
Speaker 3: catch tart process that year too, So it's it would be. Basically,
Speaker 3: this would be the first time he would be a
Speaker 3: full time tight end one and not get to one
Speaker 3: hundred catches, or at least do that.
Speaker 2: If this offense is what we think it can be,
Speaker 2: you better hope that Trey McBride has fewer than one
Speaker 2: hundred catches because that means everyone else has elevated their game,
Speaker 2: regardless of whether Trey McBride gets more attention. But Jeremiah Love,
Speaker 2: James Connor, Trey Benson, Marvin Harris, and Michaels Wilson. That
Speaker 2: to me, if one number is gonna go down, some
Speaker 2: numbers have got to go up. So if Trey McBride
Speaker 2: has ninety catches, to me, that signals Michael's got eighty
Speaker 2: eighty five, Marvin's got eighty eighty five.
Speaker 4: And then maybe you're not.
Speaker 2: Throwing the ball nearly as much because you have a
Speaker 2: running game and you're playing with the lead.
Speaker 3: Sure you don't have to throw the.
Speaker 4: Ball in the second half twenty five times.
Speaker 5: I'd like to go next based on these answers, My
Speaker 5: second prediction Arizona will have two thousand yard receivers for
Speaker 5: the second straight year doesn't necessarily mean they're gonna have
Speaker 5: more catches. Last year, it was Michael Wilson and Trey McBride,
Speaker 5: and if you want even more specific prediction, I believe
Speaker 5: it will be those two players again. Again, doesn't necessarily
Speaker 5: mean that they're going to get more catches, but I
Speaker 5: think the way the offense could open up what we've
Speaker 5: seen from those two players specifically and what they're capable of,
Speaker 5: I think that the Cardinals could very likely have two
Speaker 5: thousand yard receivers. Again. Now, you hope that you're running
Speaker 5: the ball more, absolutely, but I still think that's possible.
Speaker 2: Averaging more yards per catch and a ten yard out
Speaker 2: is now all of a sudden, a seventy five yard
Speaker 2: catch and run with that space that you're talking about.
Speaker 2: So yeah, I can certainly see that, and I don't
Speaker 2: think that's we're talking about predictions. There are some that
Speaker 2: were like, okay, wow, Walter, no, that's but I don't
Speaker 2: having two one thousand yard receivers.
Speaker 4: I think that's very realistic.
Speaker 3: Now, if you want to, I mean, past catchers, you're
Speaker 3: not necessarily saying which ones obviously, right.
Speaker 5: Right, I'd still be McBride and Michael Wilson.
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, Okay, Now.
Speaker 4: If you're going to add a third to that conversation.
Speaker 5: Things get interesting once upon a time.
Speaker 3: But yeah, well that team also couldn't run the ball, and.
Speaker 2: Again that's based off what we think Michae Leffler wants
Speaker 2: to do. You're not going to have a whole bunch
Speaker 2: of someone being an outlier like a Trey McBride last season.
Speaker 2: I just I don't, I don't. I can't see that offense. Now,
Speaker 2: things do get sideways and there's injuries or whatever, and
Speaker 2: you're forced to then that's the different conversation. Hopefully back
Speaker 2: half of the season, that's fair. We'll stay on the
Speaker 2: offensive side.
Speaker 3: Let's do that.
Speaker 2: We did not discuss any of this, by the way,
Speaker 2: but it all kind of ties together. Our defensive predictions,
Speaker 2: now offensive predictions we could have had. I could have
Speaker 2: done two defense, could have done two offense, but I
Speaker 2: did an offense as well. And hopefully that my prediction
Speaker 2: means that your two predictions come true. This is the
Speaker 2: year year four Paris Johnson finally makes a Pro.
Speaker 3: Bowl Johnson happen.
Speaker 4: Yeah, I had.
Speaker 2: To look because I want to make sure if you're
Speaker 2: going to predict this, then something has to happen. So
Speaker 2: if he's in someone is out. So Trent Williams has
Speaker 2: been to the Pro Bowl twelve times.
Speaker 4: Four seasons.
Speaker 5: Impressive.
Speaker 2: So one of those two has to be not in
Speaker 2: the Pro Bowl. Now, that could happen if one of
Speaker 2: them has happens to be in the super Bowl or
Speaker 2: there's an injury. So I do think one of those
Speaker 2: two or you just.
Speaker 5: Have what about Paris being in the Super.
Speaker 3: Bowl would be hilarious if his prediction didn't come true.
Speaker 3: Cardinals are in the super Bowl, but you.
Speaker 4: Could still get named to the Pro Bowl. You just
Speaker 4: don't participate good save.
Speaker 3: So so then your super Bowl thing doesn't matter. No,
Speaker 3: because anybody, if.
Speaker 5: He's saying physically he could be Paris could at least
Speaker 5: be an alternate.
Speaker 2: No, if the forty nine Ers or Lions or in
Speaker 2: the Super Bowl, that opens up a slot Paris Johnson gets.
Speaker 5: That way or another.
Speaker 4: And I was told.
Speaker 2: That it doesn't matter how you get to the Pro Bowl,
Speaker 2: it still counts as a Pro Bowl selection.
Speaker 5: That means that would mean a lot to him. He
Speaker 5: would love if that came true. You would love that
Speaker 5: because you know that he at least is on the
Speaker 5: upward trend of improving his play every year. It's a
Speaker 5: matter of staying healthy. So if that's the case, that
Speaker 5: means you're starting left tackle is staying healthy, which is
Speaker 5: a great thing.
Speaker 2: And I think that might be the biggest aspect of
Speaker 2: that prediction is he's on the field, hopefully all seventeen
Speaker 2: games or sixteen games, and you don't have to worry
Speaker 2: about the left side at all. Paris Johnson Junior, he's
Speaker 2: got it. As DJ Humphreys always like to say, I
Speaker 2: blocked the guy, and Paris does more than that.
Speaker 4: DJ did as well.
Speaker 2: But you solidify the left side, you answer the question
Speaker 2: about franchise tackle. And then with that Pro Bowl status,
Speaker 2: I'm guessing at some point, maybe sooner rather than later,
Speaker 2: maybe before the Pro Bowl, there's the.
Speaker 4: Matter of a contracting. It certainly would helpen to go.
Speaker 5: So I thought about making a prediction with these outdoor
Speaker 5: games that the Cardinals wouldn't have any major weather games,
Speaker 5: but I did not want to jinx anything, so I
Speaker 5: didn't make that an official prediction.
Speaker 3: When when do we go to San Francisco.
Speaker 5: It's gonna be hot, It'll be hot. We always go
Speaker 5: Week three or four and I'm always melting, So the
Speaker 5: outdoor games would be let's see at San Francisco Week
Speaker 5: three that's late September, that's toasty. The following week four
Speaker 5: at New York, and then the other outdoor venues would
Speaker 5: be at Seattle week nine in the middle of November
Speaker 5: might not be old, but rain you never know. At
Speaker 5: Kansas City week eleven, November twenty second, that could be.
Speaker 5: I have lived in Missouri in November many years. That
Speaker 5: would be chilly, and then those would be it. Nothing crazy.
Speaker 5: It's more so just rain.
Speaker 2: As long as you prefer rain or snow if you had,
Speaker 2: if you had to stand in something.
Speaker 4: For however long, snow, okay.
Speaker 3: I would be there. Although again we went to Green
Speaker 3: Bay that was miserable in twenty eighteen. I wasn't there,
Speaker 3: but I could see and we in the In those days,
Speaker 3: we were doing a Facebook pregame show. So me and Lisa,
Speaker 3: Me and Lisa Matthews were on the field for like
Speaker 3: ten minutes trying to do this thing and it was
Speaker 3: bone chilling and the snow was coming down and I'm like,
Speaker 3: I couldn't feel my fingers and I had all this
Speaker 3: stuff on.
Speaker 5: Yeah, that part's not fun. The cold, like I say,
Speaker 5: rain is some you know, darre and I were both
Speaker 5: in the press box a few years ago in Pittsburgh
Speaker 5: for what an hour and a half rain delay, so
Speaker 5: we didn't care about the right. We were nice and dry.
Speaker 3: There was a game, there was a game in Miami
Speaker 3: in twenty sixteen that was like there were like two
Speaker 3: or three different deluges of rain during the game and
Speaker 3: it was just awful for awful football. And the Cardinals.
Speaker 5: Well, I'm excited to see whose predictions come true. Honestly,
Speaker 5: if any of our predictions come true, that means something
Speaker 5: is going right on the offense.
Speaker 2: Feel stronger about a prediction one more than another.
Speaker 5: If he stays healthy, I go pretty good about the
Speaker 5: prediction of Walter Nolan having double digit sacks season.
Speaker 3: I think I think Trey's gonna have fewer than one
Speaker 3: hundred catches because I think this offense is going to
Speaker 3: be fairly balanced.
Speaker 4: Among my two I think I went out on a
Speaker 4: limb on both of.
Speaker 2: Them based off what needs to happen in order to
Speaker 2: But I would love to see if Bja flirted with
Speaker 2: double digit sacks because it means one he's healthy and
Speaker 2: two he's shown that he can be that guy. The
Speaker 2: Cardinals thought they were getting out of LSU in.
Speaker 5: The second round, so only time will tell.
Speaker 4: Knock on wood.
Speaker 2: Hopefully this all happens in twenty twenty six. And that's
Speaker 2: this edition. This week's edition, The Cardinals Underground
