Speaker 1: Check Podcasts.

Speaker 2: Thanks for listening to the Donnie and Dolly podcast. Catch

the show Monday through Fudday, ten am to noon on Check.

Speaker 1: I think you're gonna want to hear this.

Speaker 3: Your local sports coverage lives here.

Speaker 1: Two nothing.

Speaker 2: It's Alva not so fast Coho breath with Don Taylor.

Speaker 1: I say that the winner of the draft lottery should

be the winner of a two man loose.

Speaker 4: And Rick Dolly Wall I had a cherry tree, little Ricky.

Speaker 3: I used to go up that tree.

Speaker 4: And just sit there for hours and munch on those

cherry years.

Speaker 2: Donnie and Dolly.

Speaker 1: Ten o'clock in downtown Vancouver. We're the Paul Carson Studio.

Thanks for tuning in, folks. It's Donnie and Dolly the

team on Check. Don Taylor, along with Rick Dolly Wall.

Ryan Henderson is our producer of the Man of the Controls.

He's still off celebrating the birth of a second child,

Benson in his place. Quinn Taylor, our director the Voice

of God.

Speaker 3: Cannot stare at you how quiet it's been this week.

No fighting, you're no yelling, no screaming. It's been good.

Speaker 1: You wanted to talk about Jay Woodcroft being the next

head coach.

Speaker 3: Of the the Canucks. Stop it. It's not happening.

Speaker 1: What's what the energy level today? I want to pick

it up.

Speaker 3: You know, well, where'd you get Jay Woodcroft?

Speaker 1: You talked about it, but somebody brought it up and

you got really upset. There was some former Oilers coach

now an assistant coach with.

Speaker 3: Somebody tweeted about Woodcroft the next coach of the Canucks.

I mean, come on, give me a break. They're going

to get it done with Manny. They'll get it done

with man You know something, it is done.

Speaker 4: I'm just I'll be shocked if they don't.

Speaker 1: More on that later. The Canucks search, I guess if

you want to call it that, although most people are

with you, it's seems inevitable. It's going to be Manny mahultra.

More on that a little bit later. I wanted to

focus on this. I think this is very, very impressive

when it comes to the Canucks. Just think the whole

whole story behind the Canucks has changed in the last

week dramatically in a positive way. So a week ago

we could go today at Rogers Arena, the Canucks introduced

Ryan Johnson as their new m a new GM Henrik

and Daniel Sedine as co presidents. This is Daniel Sedine

at that press conference last week speaking on something that

I think most people would agree has slipped in the

Vancouver organization. We've got this clip here, Derek. Something that

has slipped in the Vancouver organization community involvement.

Speaker 5: I mean, looking back twenty six years when we when

we flew into the theater, Brian Burke told us that

this was a number one organization in the league when

it comes to commuter involvement, and we need to get

to that point. We should be the number one organization

in the nshell when it comes to commuter involvement, and

we're going to ask our players will do a lot.

I think it's so important for us as players, and

we did those things. I think it puts perspective in

in in life.

Speaker 6: I think.

Speaker 5: I think faster respect there. You might have a bad

game here and there, but if you're out you do

the work in the communit. I think they can certainly

buy into what we were trying to be.

Speaker 1: Daniel Sedin last week, co president of the Vancouver Canucks.

What's the old expression, Rick, action speak louder than words.

Yesterday Wednesday, Daniel Henrik and Ryan Johnson spending time community

involvement at Cannuck Place.

Speaker 5: Hi, buddy, we're gonna make some teachers today. Can you

help them?

Speaker 6: Then tired her out?

Speaker 3: Mix?

Speaker 6: Is this a good color? Should try?

Speaker 4: What do you think about this color?

Speaker 7: All?

Speaker 8: Right?

Speaker 2: For Ryan?

Speaker 4: Oh yeah, that'd be good.

Speaker 8: But Maxwell on one, two, three, girls.

Speaker 1: Well, I'm it's just so impressive. And and some people

would say, well, you know, that's one thing, and what

you do on the ice is another. But community involvement

and look, it goes back and Daniel mentioned Brian Burke,

it goes back before that, the Griffiths family, you know,

connect place, which we just saw in that video, and

certainly Pat Quinn and how connected. And look, it's good

for business and I understand that that that's definitely a

part of it, but it goes goes back to that

era when things were really successful both on and off

the ice, and there was a real connection there with

the community. You get people behind you. And also back then,

the players, no matter where they were from Canada, Sweden, Finland,

the US, they feel more connected and and feel more

important in terms of being connected to the not just

the Canucks, but to the community, community, and it makes

them want to be here a little bit. I just

think it's just so important. How impressive have these guys

been in one week and they move quickly on Adam Foot.

We'll see what happens when we'll see when they announced

their new head coach. But it's been really really impressive.

They look like leaders and that hasn't been the case

for a long time. I tell you, the last guy

who looked like a real leader for the Canucks to

me off the ice in the front office with Stan

Smeel back in twenty twenty one when he was you know,

in charge and on an interim basis, and he made

that speech of what what it means to be a Caduck.

But that this past week has been really really impressive.

And people can say it's a it's a little thing.

I don't think it. I don't think it is. I

think it's a big deal that these guys get involved

with the community and make it make it a priority

for their players to do the same thing. That was

just it's just been a really good week for the Caducks.

Speaker 4: Practice.

Speaker 3: What you preach is another one. You said, there's phrases

out they're practice These guys are gonna do what they say.

They're gonna roll up their sleeves. They're gonna do work.

They don't say stuff just for the hell of it.

They back it up. They're good people, good human beings.

This is a great start. They haven't made their first dunning.

They have made the first trade. Trade, they have made

the first signing. They have made their first st.

Speaker 1: They made their first move though, they made and with

respect to Adam Foot, they made that move right away.

Speaker 4: Yep, yeah, yeah, yeah, that classy.

Speaker 1: I think that it was and I think most people

agree that was the right move. Adam Foot did not

seem like the right foot, the right fit for this

for this team.

Speaker 3: Absolutely not. No, they did, you're right now.

Speaker 1: It was respectful to Adam Foot as well.

Speaker 3: Absolutely, And look they made the big move. But just

classy people, you're always get you know that outside noise,

all the soap opera and all that last two years.

I don't think that's going to be with this team anymore.

I think they're going to stop that and block it.

You won't see the soap proper you saw the last

two years.

Speaker 1: Yeah, and when I see that, and again, I know

it's not on the ice and ultimately that's how they're

going to be a judge. But when I see that,

I think to myself, you know, this talk that you're

going to bring in, you know, some guy from the

Boston Bruins organization who's from Toronto. They made the right

choice here. I'll go on record as saying that if

I prove I'm proven wrong, that that's fine. But just

you know, they the Sedines and Ryan Johnson know they

know what it means to be a connoct on what

this team means to this organization. How disappointing the past

few years, so many, so many bad moves on and

off the ice, and the relationship with the media. It's

just been terrible. These guys again, very very early, But

it just seems like the right choice. Meanwhile, talking about

the old group, there was some thought senior advisor now

Jim Rutherford, saying that he offered Patrick Alvin a lesser

role with the organization.

Speaker 3: That's not going to happen, no, he is. Patrick is

going to decide to go elsewhere. Donnie, no surprise here.

Would you want to work.

Speaker 4: For the people that fired you, although they might still

pay you, but whatever.

Speaker 1: You know, me shallow is gon be.

Speaker 3: If they're paying, we're staying is the old comment. But anyways, Patrick,

you know, I've never heard that before. If they're paying,

we're staying. I had I had a year where just

like all these guys, like a buyout, a buyout, and

I took a year off and I got paid for it.

I sat at home on the couch for twelve months, collecting.

Speaker 1: People enjoyed that.

Speaker 3: There's nothing wrong with that. It's good I had one

of those years. You've had about five or six of those.

But anyways, listen back to Patrick Alvin. A bunch of

teams have reached out to Patrick about his future employment.

He's not going to be back with the Canucks. I

don't know where he's going. I know people think Minnesota

Bill Garrin's a buddy is but I was told yesterday

as of now, I don't think it's Minnesota Pittsburgh connection. Again,

here's the problem for Patrick Alvin and Adam Foot. Everybody

thinks Adam Foot's going to Philadelphia. Hold it a second.

Speaker 1: Flyers.

Speaker 3: Did their defense been improved last year? Their goals against

was one of the best in the Eastern Conference. Sometimes

it's not about being fired it's about being fired at

the right time, and there's opportunities elsewhere. So all I'm

saying is there has to be an opportunity in the

opening for Alvin to go. But anyways, I do know

a bunch of teams have reached out to Patrick. I

don't where he's going. I don't know where Adam Foot's going,

but I do know Adam Foot's going to get teams

to call. I was told last night one team you know,

is poking around saying, Hey, would Adam Foot be a fit?

Would Foot be a fit? Donny here? So he's going

to get looks. He's going to get looks.

Speaker 1: Thatcher Demko.

Speaker 3: There was a rumor going around that thatcher Dempko is

already skating. I checked into that this morning. Not true.

He is doing great. I am told he's doing great.

Uh no skating yet not hearing of any setbacks. When

did he have the hip surgery done late January February

once a year for the last time.

Speaker 4: No, he had the popolotas and then the hip surgery.

Speaker 3: Uh. Dempko had it in early February. But he is

not on the ice. So that rumor that was out

there about Dempko on the ice. He's not there yet,

but also good, what are.

Speaker 4: You talking about?

Speaker 3: He had hip surgery. You need three four, four and

a half five months before you go on the ice.

He's going to be ready for camp.

Speaker 1: How's the puplataus?

Speaker 4: Do we know?

Speaker 3: I'm hearing he's doing great in his rehab and I'm

hearing no setbacks. That's the key right there, don How.

Speaker 1: Many times have we heard that. I'm not criticizing him,

but what I will say is with this history of

health issues, the three year deal that hasn't even kicked

in yet. Oh my gosh, you made a point about

the goaltenders in last night remaining in the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Speaker 3: Last night, Carter Hart's making two million. Who's the other

guy making one point five?

Speaker 1: Wedgwood?

Speaker 3: Right, yeah, he's making one five. The Vancouver Canucks are

going to pay thirteen million for two goalies next year,

and the Eastern the Western Conference final has got two

goalies making three and a half million combined.

Speaker 1: Well, I think if you combined all four goaltenders seven

start seven between seven and eight million.

Speaker 4: So goalies are going there.

Speaker 1: The Canucks are on the only team that you know,

Look at I mean, look, what's happening with a Well,

I'm going to say Florida, but he's got a couple

of Stanley Cups and Bebroski in the ten million dollar deal.

Speaker 3: Doney swaymon, Donny, Why are teams going fir in the

playoffs with one two million dollar goalies? Why what's going on?

Why the hell out of the Canucks paying thirteen million

for two That doesn't make sense? Doesn't make sense to you?

Speaker 1: Well not right now?

Speaker 3: No, and no one's taking Demco. All these people trade Dempco.

You need till Christmas to figure out if he can

give you thirty forty games. He's played twenty one and

twenty two games in the last two years. You gotta

wait till Christmas.

Speaker 1: You know what I would do if Daniel Henrick Ryan,

if you're listening, is you just say you mentioned thirty

forty games. That would be what I would want to

play him next year? Thirty And you're paying Kevin Lankin

in a pretty penny as well, right like Thatcher Dempco,

you know, trade him with kid gloves, play thirty and

if performs, well, maybe you can deal with elsewhere because

that look, I mean it could be worse. Rick, the

deal was three years. That's not bad. It's not It's

not overly long by any mean.

Speaker 3: The price is yes, okay, the price is bad and

that's part of the price you pay because the term

is less exactly. But they both got they Canucks got

the term. The agent got the money. But Donnie uh

uh and all these people that want lancoln And traded,

you know, he's got a no move And the information

I have on lancoln And today is he doesn't want

to go anywhere.

Speaker 4: He likes Vancouver. He had a baby. That's why these

guys get He's a father, became a father for.

Speaker 3: The first time, Donny. That's why these guys get no

moves so they can reject trades. I don't have any

information that he would waive lanc in it right.

Speaker 1: Now, okay, all right, by the way, uh we got

time to talk some worlds here. Canada just got a

major scare at This was a crazy game. Canada wins

an overtime over Norway six'. Five Mark schifley had three,

goals including the overtime. Winner nura was up to nothing,

Early canada came back and made it were three AND

i think of the third Then norway stormed ahead five,

Four canada ties it. LATE i Think ryan O'Reilly with

a goaltender, pulled With Cam talbot pulled five to. Five

they end up winning in. Overtime so they're now four

and oh but you wanted to talk About, Yeah Linas,

Carlson linus carl at the world's the fact that he Got,

sweden he got picked for The swedish.

Speaker 3: Team what did he have fifteen goals this? Year are?

Speaker 4: We are we showing?

Speaker 9: That?

Speaker 3: Quinn there you.

Speaker 1: Go they had fifteen, goals twenty assists for the conduction seventy,

nine so.

Speaker 4: That's him beyond the nice pass front of the.

Speaker 3: Net he had two primary assists, yesterday one, goal three

assists so Far Linas. Carlson here's the pass right here

rout what a beautiful behind the back. Pass so two beautiful.

Passes you, know he came out of, nowhere got on

A swedish As sweden's. Radar. Right he's one of the

best stories this year In. VANCOUVER i don't care what anyone, Says,

well who would argue with? You, Well, donny he could

hit twenty goals next year the way he's going like you,

know he was leading The swedish elite league when The

canucks signed.

Speaker 1: Him the whole could be their number one.

Speaker 3: Center well he could.

Speaker 10: Be well.

Speaker 4: Let's stop, there but what do you, mean Don i'm

telling you.

Speaker 1: At least, well if somebody doesn't come into shape again

in the, fall.

Speaker 3: Don't get me going on eleven, six because then then

we're gonna go on a. Tangent we're gonna start getting

the blood pressure is gonna go. Up it's not gonna

be good for both of. Us, listen why, well what

do you, mean why do you want to get in eleven?

Six then we're gonna be here for ten minutes non.

Speaker 4: Stop who do.

Speaker 1: You think people are more happy With Linas carlson Or Linas.

Speaker 3: Carlson i'm just happy for the guy because when he

used to get set down To. Absford Ryan johnson's out

there talking to hockey people About Ryan johnson is talking

to hockey people about what type of guys he wants In.

Vancouver good, teammates good human, beings good. Character canucks have

had the worst stressing him in THE nhl the last two.

Years that won't be the case. Anymore When ryan's out

there looking for players right, now he's telling other hockey,

People i'm looking for good. People i'm looking for character

and good. Teammates Uh Linas carlson when he got sent

To atmospherd didn't cry or bit or.

Speaker 4: Wine he worked his ass off and got back called up.

Again this is this is a good.

Speaker 3: Story Linas.

Speaker 1: Carlson that's an underrated. Deal as we say something positive

about Previous kentuck management That Jim benning made the deal

With San jose to get Him Linas carlson For Jonathan,

dolan who they who they received in The Alex burrows.

Deal and with With Linas, carlson there's some Some Alex

burrows there, RIGHT i mean underrated.

Speaker 3: Player Or vancouver unsung. Player at the, suite he's playing

great for The. Swedes what a great.

Speaker 1: Story six Nothing sweden Over. Slovenia by the, way Future

knuck Iver stenberg with one assist possible Future kanuck And

finland Beat latvia seven to one at Two ratu third

goal he.

Speaker 3: Scored rats been great and there's a guy that refused to.

Play they just refused to, play you. KNOW I, so,

anyways does this Propel Latu ratu into a better year next?

Year there you.

Speaker 1: Go, man you get upset WHEN i Mentioned, petterson, like, well,

well why did you get my blood pressure?

Speaker 4: Up and then you're gonna get yours?

leading by a wide margin seventy eight. Percent then Comes

caleb maholtro we just talked. About and Then Chase, reid

who's a defenseman out Of, ontario really climbing the charts

right hand. Defenseman, yeah and Video bjork also on that

Team sweden Rate Daniel sedeen is at the world's Watching

stenberg and B york right, now getting a glimpse of you,

know maybe The canucks take one of these two. Guys you,

know there's always a. Possibility don you can move up

or down in the draft, Too so we always, hear

oh we're gonna try and move up or. Down it's

just too. Hard then it's just too expensive to move

up or. Down BUT i want to say something About.

Stemberg when you, know it was rumored The canucks had a,

chance or when The canucks had a chance for, first,

overall nobody Wanted. Steenberg oh it's got to be, McKenna, McKenna.

McKenna now all of a, sudden everybody wants this. Guy

but when he was for the first, pick, no you

gotta take, McKenna a Great canadian, Kid Western canadian. Kid

don't take The. Swede so now it's to pick, three

not pick. One but everybody wants S. Deenburg now that's

amazing to.

Speaker 1: Me it's. Amazing, Yeah and On, Craigslist Craig button Has

stanberg moving, up same With Vigeo. York but The chase

read possibility is. Interesting right handed, Defenseman american. Defenseman you,

know last TIME i, checked you, know Star american. Defenseman

do they want to play?

Speaker 3: Here?

Speaker 4: Yes, Right, Donny, donny that's not an.

Speaker 1: ISSUE i, mean what do you get upset about?

Speaker 3: It seed is not going to SAY i don't want

to go To. Vancouver he's An american. Defenseman first of,

all where's he playing In? Canada Sue Saint. Marie so

he's got no issues playing In canada right. Now it

was in the US hl that actually kicked him out

and he got cut at, sixteen and then he went

To canada to play In Sue Saint.

Speaker 1: Marie you can understand why People quinn would be. CONCERNED i,

mean it tends to be a you, know situation here

where people look at the recent past and, go you

can't do that. Again BUT i realized that every player is.

Speaker 4: Different matthew played In, london he, drafted but.

Speaker 3: It was years later they wanted out Of canada draft

draft level With.

Speaker 4: Hughes But hughes when he got, drafted he had no

problems coming To. Vancouver, yeah but then he did eight years,

later choice.

Speaker 3: Did, yes things, Happened Quinn hughes has reasons why he Left. VANCOUVER.

Jt miller Left. Vancouver Connor garland Left. Vancouver that's Three american,

Born so why would you want to? Know hold it

a second. Stop they all signed extensions In. Vancouver why

because they liked it? Here why did they?

Speaker 4: Leave they had the?

Speaker 1: Reason, no because things got. Hard that's Why Quinn. Hughes

things got hard and he quit on. Shifts not a good.

Look you'll See rick when he comes back to. Town

he's gonna get Boot.

Speaker 4: He will get.

Speaker 3: Booed he, WILL i think when He hughes will get

booed for, Sure, YEAH i absolutely.

Speaker 4: Do BUT i do want to say one last thing

and What i'll.

Speaker 1: Say let me just, sorry BUT i do that a.

Lot BUT i understand where where you're coming. From BUT

i also understand why people would hesitate because it's a

recent source of pain.

Speaker 3: For the fan.

Speaker 1: Base, yes right where you had An american defenseman, leaving

you draft another one. HIGH i can understand where people

are coming. From everybody's. Different they Have americans on the.

Team everything seems to be you know. Fine you, know

with the likes Of Zeve buham and want to talk

about a. Forward Brock bester has made a home, here

SO i realized their. Exception BUT i understand where people

may be coming. From how are we doing With Brandon dillon.

Speaker 4: By the, Way, yeah we're still.

Speaker 1: Waiting we're still. Waiting, Okay So, Brent brandon is going

to be in. Trouble it was unbelievable about this got.

Speaker 9: Him, no it was JUST i don't. KNOW i hope

it's not my, fault BUT i don't think it.

Speaker 4: Is never blame.

Speaker 3: Yourself i'm gonna text him right. Now i'm GONNA i

just did. Text, yeah he's a great. Kid he's a great.

Speaker 1: Kid but here's the, Thing, Brendan you're you're now involved.

Speaker 3: In the world of.

Speaker 1: Broadcasting you, know time is of the. Essence you have

deadlines to, meet, you you have people to talk, to

and here he.

Speaker 4: Is, well, no he's not.

Speaker 1: Here he's not or maybe it's your.

Speaker 4: Fault could be, here it could Be quinn's.

Speaker 1: Fault, yeah, okay so we're waiting on. Him, okay let's do.

This the search continues for A canucks head. Coach we

assume it's going to Be Manny. Mahultra So Ryan. Johnson

earlier this, week we got this clip here. Jerk, okay

as you can, tell, folks we're tap. Dancing it is live.

Television but this Is Ryan, johnson you general manager of

The Vancouver, canucks whether or not it's going to Be

manny mahultra head coach of The Vancouver. Canucks Ryan johnson

on the qualities he's looking for in a New canucks head, Coach.

Speaker 12: Well, consistency, patience the ability to connect with a young

group and realize that we can't blanket, players that they

each have their own, path their own, journeys that you've

got to be attentive. Too so those are just some

obviously key components out of the gate THAT i always

look for in a, coach regardless of where the state

of the team is.

Speaker 3: At there you, go, there you.

Speaker 1: Go, patient want consistency and one thing That Ryan johnson

has emphasized it seems like several months, ago but since

day one as a general manager of The Vancouver, canucks

talking about how when you're rebuilding and it's a young

organization that it's okay as a player within reason if

things negative things keep happening again and, again you got a,

Problem but it's okay to make a mistake for, sure,

Right and so that's where patients comes in with young. Players,

YEAH i hate. It back in the day when you

had you know, players and, LOOK i go back to

the eighties with Cam, Neely oh, right AND i never

should have traded that. Guy obviously he could make a.

Mistake Tom, watt you. Know so he makes a couple of,

mistakes and then what. Happens he gets in, Trouble he misses,

shifts he makes more mistakes because he's thinking too much out.

There off he goes To boston and into The Hockey

hall Of. Fame, whyesta we Got brandon, Now so let's

let's deal With Brandon dillon and an interview with, him

we hope in the next. Segment thanks so much for tuning, in.

World brennan joins you just, now thanks for, this, Sir

BUT i got to tell you That i've heard a

million excuses for people showing up late for, interviews but

a pipe, Burst HAVE i got that?

Speaker 13: Right SO i sent the pictures To, dolly just to

make sure that this was like one of those to

doggate your, homework and, like you, know it actually actually.

HAPPENED i have a vanity in my master bathroom just

caved fell off and let's just say water going.

Speaker 7: Everywhere it was like right out of a.

Speaker 13: Movie and then next thing you, know HERE i am,

playing you, know a traditional dad trying to find the

main water shut off. Valve and let's just, say hockey

players not the only thing on my resume these.

Speaker 1: Days are you telling me you're doing this, Yourself, Brennan

you're not hiring. Somebody the, plumber the, plumber the.

Speaker 13: Contractor everybody was here with AND i think it was

an hour after getting about twenty phone calls from me

because as you can, imagine a defenseman, first The Hockey

night In canada panelists, second and then a plumber. Third so,

yeah just it was chaos over.

Speaker 10: Here SO i.

Speaker 3: Apologize, WELL i hope it all works.

Speaker 1: Out, yeah, okay you just said something right there that

we talked about as we introduced. You but you've entered

the broadcasting. World your experience with A Hockey night In

canada panel we all watched.

Speaker 3: You what was it?

Speaker 13: Like it was it. Was, honestly it was. Amazing it

was so much. Fun don't, Worry Donnie, Dell i'm not

coming for your guys or anybody on the. PANEL i

made SURE i mention it to those. Guys i'm a

hockey player first and, foremost and to get to watch,

games WHICH i would be doing at home on my couch,

anyways to talk, hockey which you, know whether it's teammates or.

BUDDIES i just really enjoy the game of, hockey the

evolution of, hockey the little nuances that you see these

great teams that are still around playing finding little little

things they do that obviously make them better than the

rest of the. League so to get on. There Ron McLean,

legend absolutely incredible. Person Kevin biexa we all know The

Vancouver Vancouver cannock, legend was just an unbelievable person THAT

i met a few times At Britannia Ice drink And

Bernie Beate rings had some summer skates back back in

early in my. Career and then of Course Kelly rudy

and the rest of the. Crew everyone was.

Speaker 1: Awesome, YEAH i thought it was pretty. Obvious they went

out of their way to make you feel comfortable because

they know they know what it's like and it's not

as easy as people, think although anybody could do What

rick AND i are, doing but that's another. Story So

vegas Over colorado last night for, Too game one of

The Western. Final Mitch martyr with a gorgeous Assist. Brennan

he's leading THE nhl and playoff. Points he's got the

best plus minus in the. Playoffs what has made him

so effective this spring versus maybe what we saw with The.

Speaker 13: LEAFS i don't want to say getting out of the

getting out Of, toronto BUT i think for, him it's

Just i'm so happy WHEN i see players go and

have success in other places where maybe whether it was

just getting the negative negative vibes from whether it was

the coaches or THE gms or a fan. Base Mitch,

marner no matter how you want a phraser to look,

at it's one of the best two way players in the,

game The, olympics Four, nations year after. Year he's a

guy that for all the points he puts up and

the power, plays he's able to run and make players

around him. Better he's also one of the one of

the top penalty. Killers you, know he's got a great.

Stick he reads the game so well that the HOCKEY

iq stuff of where lane's passing lanes may be and

able to take them away when when the offensive side sees.

IT i remember that that assist he had on the

penalty kill Against anaheim last, Series like you, know not only,

steals the pocket goes down the, ice has the wherewithal

to and you, know sucking to defenders and then FIND

i think it was Houd and for the. Goal he's

just been having an unbelievable. Playoffs i'm sure he's having

such a fun time. Too the more you advance in the,

playoffs the more fun the hockey, gets the higher the,

stakes and he just seems to be running with.

Speaker 3: It, Hey, brenda you played against, him but what About

Chili WAC's Zach Benson boys coming out. Party he's been

great to. Watch he's had a good, playoffs.

Speaker 13: Unbelievable he's he's just a guy who when you get

to see him and we're at the same gym there

at one performance In vancouver in the, Summers i've been

on the ice and at eight rings, together and he's

just one of those players that you just appreciate more

and more when you see how he is on the

ice when you see the mindset of just just as

blue collar as they. COME i joked about, IT i

think on one of the nights when we were talking

about him On.

Speaker 7: Sportsnet but you.

Speaker 13: Know From chili wac goes To winnipeg now In. BUFFALO

i mean just you, know the workhorse mentality of, them

but he has the skill to go with. It the

mindset to of just kind of embracing his role is,

that you, know The Brad marshawn type get under your,

skin but can also make you pay. Offensively and those

guys are, invaluable and you know someone you always want

on your, team and you look at the size that he.

Is i'm taking a guy like him that can work

hard and have that competitive dog type mentality all day.

Speaker 3: Long, Hey, brendan The habs two game seven victories Beat Tampa.

Bay now they win again In. Buffalo what's going on?

There is this a team of? Destiny in your?

Speaker 13: Eyes they just seem to be they got some good

going and they're enjoying.

Speaker 7: It they're finding different.

Speaker 13: Ways it's nice to see guys like New hook And

adobish just being being kind of great stories here through the,

playoffs back to back, games seven victories over some great.

Speaker 7: Teams some great.

Speaker 13: Teams i'm sure if you were to ask ten ten

hockey fans around the, world probably you, know the majority

would have been picking the other.

Speaker 3: Way and.

Speaker 13: To the fact now they're going in again as underdogs Against,

carolina arguably one of the top teams in the league all.

Year it's gonna be another challenge for, them And Marty

Saint louis seems to have them clicking on all cylinders

and they've got that, swagger they've got that just mentality

that they're they're not going to be going, down and everyone's.

Speaker 7: Contributing it's fun.

Speaker 3: To, See, hey you're a big guy six four two,

twenty BUT i see some small guys doing. Well Stan, Covin,

brendan The Coffield. Benson, hey there's some small guys in

this year's playoffs that are doing really well.

Speaker 13: Well it's kind of similar to The bensons just makeup

and mentality THAT i was. SAYING i think that's a

credit To carolina that we played them a bunch this,

year played them in playoffs last. Year they've they've identified

certain players that fit their mold and their style of

play and what they're looking for and kind of A

Dna and that doesn't matter that the height or the

weight that they. Are it's it's all about their, mentality their.

COMPETITIVENESS i kind of mentioned that dog like, that That

benson is just hard on four, checks relentless on on

pucks and winning those stick. Battles And i'm Taking i'm

taking the five foot, eight five foot, nine hard, nosed you,

know willingness to go into corners guy over the six

foot six softy who just has the size and was

kind Of god. Given so to see how you, know

like how important each puck battle, is whether it's a

face off or a net front. Battle and it doesn't

matter how big are it's it's how hard you're.

Speaker 1: Going For, BRENDAN i heard you talking about this some

hockey night In, canada BUT i would imagine and he

hasn't got A Stanley cup, yet but pulling for year

Old San jose Teammate Brent. Burns what influence did he

have on your?

Speaker 13: CAREER i can't say enough good things About burnsey and

the on, ice the off. Ice one of the first

PEOPLE i met WHEN i got To San jose and

walked through that locker, room AND i was fortunate to

SPEND i think.

Speaker 7: It was three or four months at his.

Speaker 13: House WHILE i was getting getting his wife was doing

my my condo renovations, actually SO i got to spend

and see his.

Speaker 1: Family maybe you should get her to help you out right, Now,

brandon IF.

Speaker 7: I could fly her Into jersey, overnight she'd be out.

Here but she's got these playoff.

Speaker 13: Games she's out there supporting her husband doing So i'll

let her let her.

Speaker 7: Priorities he's just one of.

Speaker 13: Those guys THAT i Heard nate McKinnon talking about him

the other, day and he's just so committed every single.

Day you, know you joke about the backpack and the

big beard he's got going and. Stuff he, uh he

really is just somebody that's That, ULTIMATELY i enjoy seeing

him have. SUCCESS i enjoy seeing him continue to affect

the game. Positively he he's a, big big mutant of a,

man six, five probably two, thirty but, he, uh he

just finds the way EVERYONE i think around the league

from a defensive standpoint has been trying to shoot the

puck like him and find different links to at the puck.

End and he's just been doing it for close TO

i think it's twenty years, now fifteen hundred games or.

Speaker 7: Whatever he played and just a great.

Speaker 13: Teammate i'm such a fan of his and you, know

the six and a half years we spent. Together we're

definitely cherished.

Speaker 1: Once all, Right, brandon The devils twelve points out of

a playoff.

Speaker 3: Spot they avenue The.

Speaker 1: Devils you have a new general manager And sonny made

who's got an issue on his. Hands Simon, nimitch your

defense partners asked for a.

Speaker 3: Tree but have.

Speaker 1: You have you talked With sonny at? All and if,

sold what were your. Impressions.

Speaker 13: YEAH i had a great conversation With sonny probably a

week or two, ago just just kind of talking, hockey

getting to know one.

Speaker 7: Another AND i feel for.

Speaker 13: Him it has been well. Documented he's From jersey, here.

Speaker 7: He loves The.

Speaker 13: Devils he's a big fan of the, team of kind

of the pillars we seem to have in place. Here

and it's A it was a disappointing season no matter

how you cut. It for for The devils, individually as a,

TEAM i mean right on down from fours to d to.

Goaltending it was just there's a reason why we weren't in,

playoffs AND i think that's the key for us with

with the roster makeup we do have is we're built

to win. Now sonny wants us to win now whatever

WAY i, mean we we just got to get better

in every facet AND i think for us as, players

we should all have that chip on our shoulder and

the mentality of going into your summer training and your

summer rise sessions that we we got a lot to

prove next. Year we're one of those teams that isn't

going to be taken for serious next year because we

weren't in playoffs and we're just one of those sixteen

that was on the outside looking. In so that should

pits us. Off it should should be something that you, Know,

NEIMO i enjoyed playing with.

Speaker 7: Him he's he's got a bright.

Speaker 13: Future he's a guy THAT i feel like between the

offensive side of the. Pockey he wants to puck on his,

stick he wants to be running at our. Play we've

got a lot of those guys here with Between Dougie

hamilton And Luke. Hughes so you, know, though that's about

my pay grade in the sense of those those decisions

and how things are going to shake. OUT i feel

like we had unfortunately a lot of those elephants in

the room this. Year that was just the reality of you,

know is this guy upset because this guy's got more ice,

time OR i should be playing where that guy's, playing

OR i WISH i was playing with that guy's my

winger or deep. Partner and it's hard enough to win

in this league when you're healthy and when you're just you,

know trying to beat the other, team let alone having

other distractions going, on and we just had way too

many of those. That, hopefully hopefully we'll get the ship

righted and can get back to the winning ways we

need to.

Speaker 1: Be, Yet, okay you're talking to a vankaver. AUDIENCE i

have to ask you. This The hughes, brothers did they

ever talk About quinn moving To New?

Speaker 13: JERSEY i, MEAN i think that was that was a well,

documented whether it was social media or it Was donnie

And dolly's show or Probably Vancouver's Sports sportsnet. THING i,

MEAN I i you see The felino, brothers they get

to play together this, year the joy they had for their,

families their. Parents i'm sure it's been talked about The

Hughes hughes, household and before those guys are all, Done

i'm sure they'd love to play with with one. ANOTHER

i know how how Valuable jack And, luke you, know

their their friendship and their, brotherhood AND i Know quinn's

a big part of that, too is the oldest. Brother

so whether that's them hanging out In New york at

the end of their hockey seasons or just back In,

Michigan i'm pretty sure.

Speaker 7: All three still live. Together but.

Speaker 13: It's you just got to look at it from the

hockey stand Pod i'm sure from THESE gm chairs before

you're looking at it from the what might sell some hockey,

Jerseys so you, KNOW i think that's something For luke,

too that to keep in, mind And dougie And emo

like you bring In Quinn hughes all all of a

sudden your power, play, Right so there's a lot of

different factors that come in AND i know for myself

and AND i hope it shared through it, everybody like

we just want to win and whatever that, takes and.

Speaker 7: We'll kind of see how how things play out the.

Speaker 1: Summer CAN i see some water leaking through the ceiling?

There you might want to get on that all, Right, hey,

listen tough. Circumstances we can't thank you. Enough you're your

friend of the show and you always come. Through and,

again can't thank you.

Speaker 7: Enough, Hey it's always a. Pleasure, Guys thanks so much

and hope to see in the.

Speaker 1: Summer, best all the, Best, Brandon thank you very. Much Brendan,

dylan great, guy thirty five years, old one more year

left in his contract In New. Jersey at four. Even

he was pretty candid about The hughes. BROTHERS i, mean

it's natural that you know him and one day they

might they might want to play. Together no real big surprise.

Speaker 3: There candid about The devil's awful season as.

Speaker 1: Well, yeah and like the, SITUATION i don't care. WHAT

i don't care what level of hockey you, play minor,

hockey junior, hockey beer, league whatever the case may. Be

guys complain about ice time or they're happy with their ice.

Speaker 3: Time no one's ever happy with ice time unless you're

on the top line power.

Speaker 1: Play it took a, while but that was that was

great our thanks To Brandon. Dylan we Will where are

we at? Here Big rye, next that's, Right Big, rye

The twitter guy is. Next with The Quinn, Taylor Donnie,

dillon the team On. Jack, okay he's filling in For Big,

ride The twitter guy still away after the birth of his,

Child Benson son number. Two Quinn, Taylor, Okay Big rye

The twitter guy for two.

Speaker 9: DAYS i know, there you can show. It the first

THING i want to show is The Florida. Panthers THE

nhl is doing a league wide jersey this, year kind

of like the reverse radhos they did earlier.

Speaker 1: Going into next.

Speaker 9: Season, yeah and these are gonna Be city connect. Jerseys

and these were the first ones that were. Leaked these

ones were lea last. Week but it's The Florida panthers

kind Of miami vice theme uniforms we got off jersey

nerds On twitter And Manic macha off Of. REDDIT i

like these bright purple.

Speaker 4: Sort of it.

Speaker 1: Works, well, no it's, pink so, yeah, yeah and look

the success of WHAT Fc miami's doing with, pink it

absolutely works. THIS i you're being very quiet, here AND

i thought you'd be all over. This so because it's

a nineteen eighties look and it's your.

Speaker 3: Decade Bice tubs And, Crockett Don johnson sexiest Man alive

back in the eighties, anyways people according To people, magazine

BUT i don't like pink, hockey.

Speaker 9: BUT i like that they're flashy like. These you can

wear these out on the beach and. Stuff like The

panthers UNIFORMS i really. Like but oh, yeah they don't scream.

Floor they're they're.

Speaker 1: Light blue ones from a couple of years ago or

among the best retro or third jerseys that have been

out since since they.

Speaker 9: Started doing this way that this is like the exact

same format of that is just, swapped swap the colors

a little, bit BUT i like.

Speaker 4: It the yellow doesn't work with the pink. Guy it.

Speaker 3: Works it's sumost to be, like it's, Like god bless,

you but that this does nothing for. ME i wouldn't buy,

this not a. Million that's.

Speaker 1: Unbelievable what do you want me to? Show because you

know what they should have had here if they're gonna

go all out on the eighties is padded, shoulders WHICH

i guess they will have paddied, shoulders but when you

when you think about, it they are hockey, players but

extra extra padding. Here remember the paddaged shoulders on, suits.

Speaker 3: Right absolutely absolutely two shades of.

Speaker 1: Ye this isn't great for our podcast. Listeners two shades of, yellow.

Speaker 4: Yellow, blue what's the what's the dark? Blue yeah it

looks like. Blue, yeah whoever made this color? Scheme all these?

Speaker 9: Work these were and then it doesn't. Work but it's city,

Connects so this has some connection to the city because

it's supposed to be like a sun.

Speaker 1: Logo is.

Speaker 3: OKAY i like the.

Speaker 4: Logo it takes me.

Speaker 3: Back it's their shoulder patch That miamivice comes and Crocked friday,

night ten o'clock In, Vancouver.

Speaker 1: Miamivice but, yeah, anyways it wasn't, man you're older than.

Speaker 4: ME i stopping. That that doesn't look like a hockey.

Speaker 9: Cheers it wasn't the only uniform leaked. Either yesterday That

islanders had their city connecting uniforms. Leaked AND i get

why they did these because the fisher people on the

scream for them to do the. Fishermen but they're terrible.

UNIFORMS i don't like. Visually they are not appealing to.

Speaker 4: Me At.

Speaker 3: Ah this isn't good.

Speaker 1: Either the number isn't, good, okay BUT i think people would,

SAY i agree with you that crest is just. Horrible

the number is horrible and the colors there was just

too much till during the era they first brought them.

Out but do these fall into the category of so

bad they're, good which is the way a lot of

people feel about The canucks flying.

Speaker 9: These but these colors aren't like, flash you're, Poppy like

these colors aren't.

Speaker 4: Pop this isn't.

Speaker 1: Pop you'll see people buying these.

Speaker 9: Though and then when they did the reverse, retros like

in twenty, one that's when they Had. Lamoretto so all

they did was just make the blue a little.

Speaker 3: Darker, Yeah but when The fishermen came, out it got

criticized so much they went away from. It why are

they bringing it?

Speaker 1: Back, well they've done it.

Speaker 4: Before it got critics kind of any of the people

love talking about it and. Stuff BUT i.

Speaker 3: Don't know it's so, bad it's.

Speaker 1: GOOD i guarantee that this will.

Speaker 4: Sell, YEAH i bet it.

Speaker 3: Sells are you gonna show a nice, one quintin this?

Year you're All.

Speaker 4: Florida one was. Nice those are only two ones that are,

leaked AND.

Speaker 1: I think you're the only person who is like The florida.

Speaker 9: Ones, Yeah and then Uh ricky you get. THERE i

got the uh San Antonio Spurs Carter, bryant middle of

the game playoff game was spotted in a public washroom

at the arena At Okaysees. ARENA i don't know what

he was doing or why he was doing.

Speaker 4: That, well why not go to the locker?

Speaker 1: ROOM i don't.

Speaker 4: Know so this is Maybe.

Speaker 1: Brandon dillon is in charge of the plumbing in their locker.

Speaker 3: Room middle of the.

Speaker 9: Game that's that, kid ths of the, washroom public. Washroom

people using the. Game imagine me in That canucks.

Speaker 3: Game seem, yeah imagine tough on.

Speaker 1: Skates well you can do.

Speaker 3: The canucks game investroom the halfway through.

Speaker 1: Their skate guards on in the.

Speaker 3: Bathroom, okay this, GUY i don't.

Speaker 4: Know what that's not been. Explained this happened. Yesterday no

one's explained. IT i don't get.

Speaker 9: Either he's washing his hands before he uses the washingroom,

too which is kind of.

Speaker 4: Weird extra or he got.

Speaker 9: No he, played he, had he he had, minutes.

Speaker 1: He had the, ball gave it, up and he went

THE tv.

Speaker 4: In the mirror like the game's going.

Speaker 1: On, oh just, tremendous, yes wild Wild and WHEN i

forget what the play who the player? WAS i think

it might have Been Vinnie damnfous when remember during one

of the lockout years a lot of the players went

over to play In russia and the bathroom facilities in

the locker room were either very poor or non. Existent

he went up into the. CROWD i guess skateguards on

or took his skates off and went up into the

crowd and went went to the. BATHROOM i think it

was Damn. Fouse, no he know what was Was Vinnie.

Lecavalier look it, Up Vincent.

Speaker 4: Lecavalier all, Right, okay that's ALL i. Got that's.

Speaker 1: It, Okay so we Thank Quinn taylor filling in For

Big ride The twitter, guy which will also be the case.

Tomorrow in the. Meantime coming up in the eleven o'clock, HOUR,

the best record in The Ontario Hockey, league eliminated in

a playoff series third round playoff series that went seven

games with multiple. Overtimes that was Against Barry, Now branford's

leading point getter in the. PLAYOFFS i think we've talked

about him a little bit over the last few. Weeks

caleb Maholtra he had eighty four points and sixty seven

regular season. Games, expected as you Know vancouver hockey, fans

to be a top ten pick at The JUNE Nhl,

draft and some people speculating he might go third overall

to The Vancouver. Canucks Jamie key joins Us now From.

Brantford how are, you, Sir i'm doing.

Speaker 6: Great how are you?

Speaker 3: Guys very?

Speaker 1: Well what was it like Coaching Caleb maholtter this?

Speaker 3: Season, well it was a.

Speaker 6: Treat i'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have him

as a player on our. Team obviously very special on the,

Ice he's a jack of all, trades can really. Do

he was exceptional in every area of the. Game he

has a great, shot great, playmaking deception with his, hands

he brings a, physicality responsible. Defensively he's a pp, guy

PGATE k guy for us out there and even as

a rookie out, there you, know when when the other

team pulled their goalie late in the, game we'd have

him on the. Ice so and you know, what as

special as he was of a, PLAYER i what really

stands out About caleb is is the person he was

off the. Ice he's just an incredibly high character type of,

person a PLAYER i could see being An angel captain one.

Speaker 1: Day he sounds. Perfect ja is there? Anything is there

anything he needs to work?

Speaker 3: On you?

Speaker 6: Know, he LIKE i, said he was a. Treat you,

know he's just he's one of the most special Players

i've had on and off the, ice if not the

in the sense of just such high character and qualities about.

Him he was a young, man and usually when you

go to a new dressing room as a first year,

player it takes some time to get used to the

guys around, you the, systems the, league and just even

connecting with. Guys but the first WEEK i saw him

talking with you, know over age veterans and making them,

laugh AND i saw him talking with first year young.

Guys so he's he's really a culture, builder a type of.

Speaker 1: KID i don't know if you know this about The vancouver,

market but people like my Partner rick here tend to

be very negative when it comes to The vancouver. Connection they, say,

Well Caleb maholtra benefited from being surrounded by a whole

bunch of talented. Teammates what do you say say to those, People.

Speaker 6: WELL i mean you look at what he did in

the playoffs. Alone he led our. TEAM i believe in.

Points and you, know he wasn't a guy that benefited.

Necessarily he fit right in and help make others better as. Well,

certainly when you surround yourself with strong, players it's going

to help your. Output but he was just from day

one in training camp in, preseason he kind of took

off right, away you, Know and we had the culture

in the room for having a lot of high end.

Players THREE nhl first, rounders you, know not not including

the potential first rounder And. Caleb but these guys just

they accepted each. Other there was no, clicks there was

NO i want the. Points it was kind of a

group mindset And caleb felt fit right in with.

Speaker 1: That it was.

Speaker 3: Great, Hey, jay the scout's job is to project where

a kid could be in THE. Nhl can you See

caleb as a number one center in THE nhl? Someday?

Speaker 1: Oh.

Speaker 6: Absolutely you know WHEN i said he's a jack of all,

TRADES i mean you could Use caleb if you need

a guy to focus on with the, scoring he can,

score if you need a guy to put with a

high end, score because can make. Plays he can make

exceptional plays if you, need you, know if you've got

those roles filled and you need a guy that can

shut down a. Line he's very responsible and has a

very HIGH iq in THE d. Zone so you could

put him really anywhere in a lineup and he's going

to have success and he's going to make the guys

around him.

Speaker 3: Better, Hey, jay you were a first round pick of

nineteen ninety, five but there was no social media back.

Then all the now it's all these kids have, video

they have all. This how different is it now for

these kids going into a draft as opposed to when

you went in the first round in ninety.

Speaker 6: Five, well it's very, different you. KNOW i think you

know WHEN i WHEN i was going through what these

players go. Through you never heard about, yourself whether it

was positive or. Negative you never saw highlights after games

unless you have through on the local television just happened

to catch the time they had the highlights. ON i

think there was there was certainly less. Distractions we could

just play the game for fun and when the game was,

over you go home and you find something else to.

Do and now it's a little bit all. Encompassing you,

know they probably a little bit of an added pressure

when they're they're seeing their names and, talk whether it's

positively or. Negatively so it takes a strong, mindset takes

a good support staff to keep these guys, leveling. Grounded

if if everyone's talking fairly highly about, them and on

the flip, side if players are going through tough. Times

you got support there as, well and try and get

them away from the social.

Speaker 1: Media oh big.

Speaker 3: Time But Jay caleb would have to be living under

a rock not to know he's going to go high

in the. Draft but did you see it affect his

play at all this? Year just seeing the. Rankings Craig

button at his rankings. Yesterday it's tough for these kids

not to see the.

Speaker 6: Rankings, yeah it's probably. IMPOSSIBLE i, MEAN i think you

know they are.

Speaker 3: Grounded they do know.

Speaker 6: That you, know there can be some positives to try

and to avoid social. Media you, know ultimately A caleb

is gonna be most likely a top three to five six.

Pick and the truth, is and kind of my message

To caleb in our exit meeting, is, hey you can

go first, overall you could go tenth. Overall at the

end of the, day all that really matters is is

you're gonna, be you, know so to, say the property

of a team that is, very very high on, you

and the real work starts after you get. Drafted he

had a heck of a. Year it's it's incredibly impressive

who this young man. Is and whatever team does land with,

him they're gonna have a lot of fun with this

this kid for for many many, years and he's gonna

he's certainly gonna impress him for a lot of those.

Speaker 1: Years we're talking with j McKee Brantford. Bulldogs, okay Scenario,

jay his Dad man he Becomes canuck's head. Coach canucks

then Draft caleb third. Overall from what you, know would

he be able to handle that? Situation would both of

them be able to handle that?

Speaker 6: Situation, well it would be neat unique for, Sure But

caleb is still, grounded and you, know Like manny is

the ultimate pro as. WELL i had a number of

scouts asked, me you, know, hey with with caleb season

and the high profile season he's, having how often have

you heard From? Manny And and the truth, is, UH

i talked To manny once during the. Season. Uh and

that was due to a phone call THAT i initiated

only to tell him how GRATEFUL i was to have

such a high character. Kid AND i wanted to give

credit To manny and his wife for for raising such a,

respectful hard Working. Uh just just a gem of a

kid to have on our hockey.

Speaker 1: Team he only talked to a hockey parent once during His,

see that doesn't happen To, Jay it's impossible and maybe

the only person.

Speaker 4: Ever maybe he was a little bit busy.

Speaker 6: Himself, yeah that's, true that's.

Speaker 3: True very good.

Speaker 6: Point it's it's you, know at THE ohl, level it's

run like like a pro, organization, Right it's not like

minor hockey where you're running into parents after every. Game you,

know if if there's ever issues or things that you,

know players want to get to the, coach it typically

goes through the agent to THE.

Speaker 3: Gm to the.

Speaker 6: Coach BUT i mean when you have a good culture

and a great organization and and ownership like The Branford,

bulldogs do you never run into those? Issues SO I

i would rarely ever even run into, parents let alone

talk to.

Speaker 1: Them, Okay so, meanwhile With, caleb do you understand his

decision to commit to be? You this is really a

two pronged. Question do you understand his commission a decision

to commit to be? You and what do you think

THOSE ncaaaa rules are going to? Mean the new rule

is going to mean for junior hockey In canada going.

Speaker 14: Forward, well first and most we want whatever kalb, wants,

right you, know we any player when they feel there

is a path that is best for.

Speaker 6: Them we're going to support. THAT i think with the new,

landscape more options is good for the players if they

feel that they are best suited and more prepared to

play against older. Players, obviously the, catches it's a lot

less games you don't go through in. College the rigors

of a you, know a four game or a four round,

series playoff rounds and then compete for Ultimately Memorial. Cup

that's a very unique scenario when its. Own it really

prepares you for the pro style of. Game when you're

playing you, know sixty seventy eighty games potentially as opposed

to thirty six. Plus so there's pros and cons both.

Ways but as an organization In, branford we are going

to always support what these players want to. Do we're

obviously very proud of our, organization our, club the way

things are. Run If caleb chose to come, back we'd

certainly welcome them with open. Arms but we want What

caleb and his family want and what they feel is

best for.

Speaker 3: Them Hey, jay what kind of kids are you getting

out of minor hockey these? Days we know about the

academies out here in The Western. League it's the bantam.

Draft you guys have the midget. Draft go back to

the days when you came out of minor, hockey and

now what kind of kids are you getting out of

minor hockey coming into your.

Speaker 6: Program, WELL i, Remember i'll give you a quick story

WHEN i was traded From sudbury To Niagara. Falls when

you walk in the door of the small gym is right.

There the barbell on the bench press had a bunch

of coad hangers on. It you walk, in you hang

your coat on the bench press. Basically and nowadays these

kids are coming, in they're training all, summer they're doing extra.

Things it's just a Different they're just more, ready they're more,

physical they're. Bigger back in ninety two WHEN i played,

junior you, know we took all summer, off did other.

Things we got on the ice and probably Late august

and got a few skates in and went to. Camp

so it's just it's, different you, KNOW i think everything

everything changed in the ninety four lockout when salary started to.

Rise everyone was trying to push a little lextra harder

to to you, know one up the other the other.

Competitors so these kids come, in they're they're more physically.

Fit we do get you, know through the, draft you

typically add the highly skilled players and it takes time

to teach them the systems and structure things that they're

not used to when they're playing minor hockey and they're

they're typically because they're so, good they're allowed to kind

of get away with a lot of the things that

you can't really do at THE ohl or pro, Level

so it takes some time and there's an adjustment, period

but they usually figured out with a lot of.

Speaker 1: Teaching, Man i'm just looking at as we wrap things up, Here,

jay your HOCKEY dB page is it's just chock full

of accomplishments over eight HUNDRED nhl games and. Coaching AND

i noticed your first go round coaching in THE ohl twenty,

fourteen twenty fifteen With eerie So connor McDavid's last season

in junior. Hockey what was it like coaching?

Speaker 6: Him just you, know we'd be as a coacher looking

to pick up, things teach them things here and, there motivate,

guys and there was TIMES i just got caught watching

him for a number of. Minutes it was pretty, amazing

just WAY i had never seen a player move the

way he, moved the way his hips turned at full,

speed he turned on a, dime as how quick his hands.

WERE i remember a scout asking, me you, know they'd

come out and they'd see him here and There. Erie

they didn't go To erie a, lot but they'd see

him on the road here and. There and one scout

asked me one, time he, said how do you think

he's going to compare To Sydney? Crosby AND i, said,

WELL i played With sid my last year in THE.

NHL i Love, sid no disrespect at. All, incredible incredible.

Player mcconnor's going to be a better, player you. Know

and he looked at me and said come, on AND i,

Said i'm telling you He's i've just never seen someone

do the things he could. Do but, again obviously all

the respect and love in the world For sid as

a person and a player as, well but it was

really really special to watch him in his FINAL ohl

season as a.

Speaker 1: Coach this has been.

Speaker 3: Great.

Speaker 1: Jay we can't thank you. Enough thanks so much for doing.

This all the best my, pleasure, guys take, Care thanks

for your. Time Jami, keey head coach of The Branford,

bulldogs and Again Caleb maholter played for him this past.

Season very successful season both from a personal and a

team point of. View Although jays certainly wouldn't mind playing

in The Memorial. Cup i'm sure like The Kitchen rangers,

are they're going to be The ohl. Representatives but they

did finish with the best record regular season record.

Speaker 3: In The old this.

Speaker 1: Year and you heard what he said with the possibility

Of caleb And manny working together In. Vancouver he doesn't

think it's going to be a problem based on you,

know what we see From manny and what we know Of.

Caleb he's been on the Show Maturity.

Speaker 4: Rick, oh, absolutely do you just heard their.
