Speaker 1: The indictment, read aloud in a Vinton County courtroom Wednesday,
names how Gary Siders Jr. is related to the child
he is accused of abusing. His bond went up by
a quarter of a million dollars in the same hearing.
And two felony cases no news outlet has reported sit
on a docket two counties away. I'm Darren Marlar, and
this is Weird Dark News. The latest stories of true crime,
the paranormal, and all things strange and macabre. You can
find more of these stories at weirddarkness.com slash news. This
episode was narrated by Robo Darren, because real Darren is sick,
but expects to be back behind the microphone very soon.
Gary Siders Jr. walked into the Vinton County Court of
Common Pleas in handcuffs on Wednesday, August 26th, and pleaded
not guilty to every charge against him in both of
his cases. The 19 restructured counts of endangering children and
before sex offenses returned against him on August 21st. His
bond was increased to $ 550, 000. Anjanette Levy, reporting for NewsNation's
Crime Fix from the hearing, said Judge Lena Featherolf Rogers
raised the figure from the $ 300, 000 he had been held
on Prosecuting attorney William Archer argued he is a flight
risk and told the court he has been trying to
hide from authorities for years. The indictment in the sex
case identifies him as the uncle of the child he
is accused of abusing and states that the child was
at least 13 years old and under 16 at the time.
This is my eighth update since the 16 children were
found in Hamden on June 30th. The August 22nd piece
covers the grand jury indictments and the three investigations behind them.
The August 20th piece covers the bond fight, and the
August 6th, August 4th, July 29th, July 22nd, and July
15th installments carry everything before that. My August 22nd piece
ended that section with the flat statement that no official
had explained what intra-family meant in this case. Archer had
said the child sex abuse cases involve intra-family relations. Attorney
General Andy Wilson's written release said the victim is not
a member of the defendant's immediate family. Former Franklin County
Prosecutor Ron O'Brien, reviewing the filings on NewsNation's crime fix,
said the two statements did not obviously line up and
that somebody needed to clarify it. Nobody did. The indictment
did it instead. Immediate family is a narrow legal term
covering a defendant's own children a niece or nephew sits
outside it and is still family, which is how Archer
and Wilson's office could both be describing the same relationship
accurately while appearing to contradict each other in public. WOUB
and WOSU both reported the uncle identification from the indictment Wednesday.
Both also wrote the charge as unlawful sexual contact with
a minor. The statute and the Attorney General's release both
say conduct And the difference matters because unlawful sexual conduct
with a minor and gross sexual imposition are separate offenses
carrying separate penalties. ABC6 was the only station inside the
courtroom and came out with two details nobody else has.
Gary Jr. 's attorney told the court that the minor
in the sex case is currently out of state and
that the 16 children remain in the care of Children's Services.
His attorney is also now challenging his mental competency, which
puts all four defendants in the same posture. Elizabeth Siders
is charged in both cases and has not been arraigned
on either indictment. NBC4 asked the Vinton County Court for
a date and was told it could not provide one.
Josh Saunders and Brandon Henderson Sr. were arraigned in Vinton
County on Monday, August 24, two days ahead of Gary Jr.,
Both pleaded not guilty. A judge said bond at $ 250, 000
for each man and ordered them to have no contact
with one another or with the alleged victims. The indictments
carry date ranges that the Attorney General's release did not include. Saunders, 23,
faces three first-degree felony counts of rape and one third-degree
felony count of gross sexual imposition, covering conduct alleged between
January of 2020 and and June of 2023. Court records
show one of the rape counts involves a victim younger
than 10. Henderson, 40, faces 21 counts spanning January of
2020 through November of 2025, and his indictment alleges the
sexual battery victim was under 18. Court documents list the
same address for both men. Neither of their two alleged
victims is among the 16 children taken from the Omer
Street house. Both men were strangers to this case eight
days ago. A 10TV reporter who went to South Bloomingville
after the indictments came back said nobody she spoke with
there recognized either name. Marriage and birth records pulled since
then by NBC4 Investigates and by ABC6 chief investigator Lisa
Rantala have placed both of them inside the family. Josh
Saunders is the son of Virginia Ciders Saunders, who is
Gary Jr. 's sister. That makes him a grandson of
Gary Ciders Sr. and Christina Ciders, a nephew to Gary Jr.
and Elizabeth, and a first cousin to the 16 children.
Virginia and Joshua D. Saunders took out a marriage license
in Gallia County on April 17, 2003, filed under Records
R-0002-99131 and R-0002-991-32. She was 15. He was 19. And
Rantala reports the application listed her as a student and
him as working at a shake shop, with Christina and
Gary Sr. signing the parental consent that allowed it to proceed.
Josh Saunders was born on June 3rd, 2003, about a
month after the wedding itself. His father has been in
state custody since 2009, serving 15 years to life at
the Chillicothe Correctional Institution on a murder charge. He and
Virginia are still legally married. Around the time he went
to prison, Virginia began a relationship with Brandon Henderson, and
court records show the two of them jointly evicted twice,
in 2010 and again in 2011. She gave birth to
a daughter in 2010, whose parentage the court records leave open.
That child is now in the custody of Virginia's sister
and brother-in-law. ABC6 obtained a family obituary that lists Henderson
as a brother-in-law to Gary Jr. and Elizabeth. NBC4' s records
reporting calls him the aunt's partner. Virginia and her husband
have never divorced, which rules out a marriage to her
on the face of the record, so partner is the
description the filings support. This is the third underage marriage
documented inside this family. Elizabeth was 15 and pregnant when
she married Gary Jr. on March 31, 2008, in Mason County,
West Virginia, with both of them living in Gallia County, Ohio,
at the time. Tessie Wright was 14 and pregnant when
she married Richard E. Siders, then 48, in Gallia County
in 2002. That license was filed on December 2, 2002.
under records R0002-98351 and R0002-98352. ABC6 also reports that the
two children Saunders is accused of abusing do not share
the initials of any of Gary Jr. and Elizabeth's 16.
Ohio law now allows a 17-year-old to marry only with
juvenile court consent, a maximum four-year age gap. and a
guardian ad litem. Two bills pending in Columbus, House Bill
670 and Senate Bill 341, would set the minimum at 18,
with no exception. Judge Featherolf Rogers will take up Gary Sr.
's competency on Tuesday, September 9th, in Vinton County Common Pleas,
and the same hearing covers whether he should be found
not guilty by reason of insanity. He is the first
of the four defendants to reach that stage. His attorney,
Dorian Baum, appeared on NewsNation's Crime Fix this week alongside
a co-counsel he introduced as John Getzen and said Geary Sr.
was transported to the evaluation facility but that no report
has come back. Baum cautioned against expecting one soon, describing
the ordinary interval as three to six weeks after the
evaluation itself rather than after the order. He also raised
a procedural question he intends to put to the court.
whether a defendant whose competency is unresolved can meaningfully be
arraigned at all, since entering a plea requires understanding what
is being pleaded to. Baum is also floating the outline
of a defense. Gary Sr., he told CrimeFix, may himself
have been a victim in that house. An elderly man
in steep mental decline whose Social Security and state benefits
were financing the rent, the utilities, and the food, possibly
kept there without the capacity to leave. He pointed out
that Gary Sr. was never charged under Ohio's complicity statute,
and argued that the state's own charging decision signals it
does not believe he knew about the alleged sexual abuse.
On the count totals, Baum said the numbers reflect how
many children were in the home rather than how many
separate incidents occurred. WOUB reports that Gary Sr. and Elizabeth
are the two defendants whose orders include a sanity evaluation
on top of the competency examination. The order signed on
August 10th attached the contingent insanity evaluation to Elizabeth, so
that pairing is worth watching on the docket rather than
taking as settled. Since the indictments came back, commentary channels
have pushed a second theory into circulation. That two people
charged in neighboring Gallia County are Sider's relatives and that
their arrests happened on June 30th, the same day deputies
came up the Omer Street driveway. The names have traveled
with a document screenshot and a family tree drawn on screen.
Both cases sit on the Gallia County docket and can
be read there. Angel N. Doss and James L. Cremins
were charged by criminal complaint in Gallipolice Municipal Court on
June 11, 2026, before Judge Eric R. Mulford, with Detective
Shallon Schulte of the Gallia County Sheriff's Office as the
complainant on both. Kremens was bound over to Common Pleas
on June 17th. Doss was bound over on June 22nd.
All of that happened before the June 30th search warrant,
not on it, which disposes of the timeline the theory
was built on. A Gallia County grand jury indicted both
of them on July 15th, and the Common Pleas dockets
are considerably heavier than the municipal complaints were. James L. Kremens, 41,
is charged in Case 26CR000088 with at least 11 counts
of rape under Ohio Revised Code 2907.02, Subsection A1B, the
subsection covering a victim under 13. Every displayed count is
a first-degree felony carrying an offense date of March 12, 2023.
Judge Margaret Evans set bond at $ 1 million at 10%
during an indigent arraignment on July 16th and appointed Britt T.
Wiseman as counsel. A criminal jury trial had been scheduled
for September 3rd. It was canceled on August 10th, the
same day a motion hearing was held and journalized as
producing no changes. His next event is set for September 14th.
Angel N. Doss, 37, is charged in case 26CR000089 with
one third-degree felony count of endangering children under 2919.22 subsection
A and one first-degree felony count of complicity to commit
rape under 2923.03 subsection A2, both dated March 12, 2026.
That complicity count did not exist at the municipal level.
She was bound over on the endangering charge alone, and
the grand jury added the first-degree felony. The subsection charged
is the aid or abet provision, which is a materially
different allegation than failing to report or failing to protect.
She was arraigned on the new indictment on August 17th,
is represented by Winston G. Woodyard, and is out on
bond after a 10% deposit was posted on July 1st.
Her case is undisposed, with a next event on September 8th.
Both cases are being prosecuted by Gallia County Prosecuting Attorney
Jason D. Holdren before Judge Evans. Neither carries any involvement
by Archer, by Assistant Attorney General Kara Keating, by Highland
County Prosecutor Annika Collins, by the Attorney General's Office, or
by BCI. Both were investigated by the Gallia County Sheriff's Office.
Neither Gallia County docket references the Siders family, Vinton County,
or any related case. The claim that Angel Doss is
a Siders relative does not survive the records. She married
Brian Adam Doss in Gallia County on April 30, 2010,
and the license lists her as Angel Nicole Marks. The
Gallia County Probate Index carries 85 records under the Siders
name going back to the 1980s, and no Angel Siders
appears in any of them. Not as a bride, not
as an heir, not in an estate, not in a guardianship.
The only Angel in that entire index is a groom
named Ole Allen Angel, who married a Rachel Lee Siders
in 1999. James L. Cremines does not appear in Gallia
County Probate at all. Eighty-nine records carry the Cremines' name,
including an estate for a James E. Cremines opened in 2024.
And none of them is him. He has a prior
record in Gallipolis Municipal Court consisting of a 2008 drug
abuse case, a 2020 marijuana possession, and four traffic citations,
which contradicts a claim circulating online that he carries a
prior sex offense from 2004. Richard Eugene Siders, described in
several of these live streams as deceased, has one record
in Gallia County probate. The marriage license he and Tessie
Marie Wright took out on December 2nd, 2002. There is
no estate case. Whether he is living is not established
by anything in the public record, and no outlet has
reported his death. Angel Doss' charged defense date is March 12th, 2026.
Wilson's published timeline places the second of the three investigations,
the unlawful sexual conduct case that pointed at Gary Jr.
and Elizabeth and produced the June 30th warrant in March
of 2026. Same month, adjacent counties, and no documented connection
between them. That is a question for Holdren or Archer,
not a finding. Nothing in the record connects either case
to Hamden. State Representatives Justin Pizzulli, a Scioto County Republican,
and Darnell Brewer, a Cleveland Democrat, have introduced House Bill 984,
which would require the Ohio Department of Children and Youth
to set reimbursement rates for foster care placement and care,
with a review every two years. Pizzulli has pointed directly
at the Vinton County children as motivation. Therapeutic foster care
for them runs between $ 150 and $ 250 per child per day,
a figure he said would have bankrupted the county without
the $ 1 million in emergency funds the Ohio Controlling Board
approved in July. Scioto County Commissioner Scottie Powell told the
bill's press conference that the number of Ohio children in
custody has dropped 9 percent since 2020, while placement costs
have climbed 68 percent, from $ 231 million to $ 389 million.
and that counties carry roughly three-quarters of that through levies
and general funds. The legislature is on break until after
the November election. Any bill that is not passed when
the two-year General Assembly ends in December has to be
reintroduced from scratch. Gary Jr. is in custody at the
Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail on the increased $ 550, 000 bond. Elizabeth
and Christina remain there as well, both still waiting on
arraignment and both still waiting on Judge Featherolf Rogers to
rule on the bond modification motions Archer opposed on August 17.
Gary Sr. remains at the Hamden property on a $ 300, 000
recognizance bond with GPS monitoring, and his hearing is September 9.
No competency or sanity report has come back for any
of the four. No trial date has been set in
any of the Vinton County cases. The Columbus Dispatch's challenge
to the broader gag order is still pending before the
Ohio Supreme Court, as is its separate complaint against juvenile
judge Robert Grillo over sealed search warrant documents. Vinton County's
juvenile court motion seeking permanent custody of all 16 children
has not been decided. The children are in therapeutic foster care.
The Vinton County court record for Gary Jr. 's four
misdemeanor counts of public indecency Case C-R-B 2600123A still shows
the August 20th pretrial as pending with no outcome entered.
The Attorney General's Office has issued no new release on
this case since August 21st. Anyone with information about this
case is asked to call 855-BCI-OHIO. And as always, Everyone
charged in these cases is presumed innocent, unless and until
proven guilty in a court of law. No one else
named in this report has been charged with any crime.
