1 SPEAKER_02: This week on Retro Rollcast.

Merrick, you look at the wolves, click quick look back over your

shoulder, and you plunge over the over the embankment and head

towards the valley floor.

SPEAKER_01: Can I do like a legless surfing on my shield

kind of thing?

Do you have a shield?

SPEAKER_02: You?

SPEAKER_01: I don't know.

SPEAKER_02: You don't know if you have a shield?

I do have a shield.

Okay.

Are you throwing it down at your feet?

SPEAKER_00: Sure.

Do it, man.

Sure I am.

Do it for the listeners.

Because I'm that cool.

I'm just picturing there's like a cliff of some sort of.

It's just going to embed.

Oh, I know it's going to embed.

I hope it does.

I don't know what the GM's got to die like he's going to roll

something, but I hope he's rolling.

I don't know what's happening.

What's your deck score?

It's the fireball.

That's what he's rolling.

My deck score is a 16.

SPEAKER_02: Okay.

And wolves nipping at your heels, you scream down the hill

like Chevy Chase in Christmas Vacation.

Excellent.

Excellent.

SPEAKER_00: That's exactly the vibe that I was looking for.

SPEAKER_02: A nice, even tempered, temperatured Attic of

Doom.

It feels nice and October.

Anyway, we've gathered here again to play Osric.

And we are continuing on the journeys of the band organized

and led ably by Doc's character.

Somehow.

Something.

So how are we doing tonight, guys?

SPEAKER_00: Ready to fight.

We're all feisty tonight.

SPEAKER_02: Yeah, well, I don't think we're as feisty as we were

last time.

SPEAKER_00: Give it time.

There's less of us, though.

SPEAKER_02: Right.

We have some cast changes this evening.

They're temporary.

Eric is not here.

He's in another state for work.

He's in a yeah, he is in another state for work.

So we enlisted the services, the longtime listeners of the

podcast will remember the John before the current John.

Old John.

First John who played in our first Shadow Dark and our

mothership campaigns.

SPEAKER_00: John, first of his name.

Pope John won.

Easy there.

SPEAKER_02: And wearing his retro roadcast t-shirt tonight.

John, how are you doing, man?

SPEAKER_01: I am doing fantastic.

Thank you for having me back.

SPEAKER_02: I have gamed with you many times since then

because we're on a 2e game with Rodney as the GM.

But welcome back.

Thank you.

Thank you very much.

We're playing in the evening, so you're I'm available.

You're available with me.

Yes.

And also, John, the other John is here, but he's looking at his

phone right now.

But Theoran will be will be played by a combination of the

players of the table and the dice because John also is not

here this evening.

SPEAKER_01: So I guess you've got one John only.

SPEAKER_02: I wanted John correct.

One John only this evening.

Only one John.

I wanted this to be Doc Rodney, Sean, Sean, John, John this

evening.

SPEAKER_01: It would have been funny.

SPEAKER_02: That would have been weird.

But not to be.

SPEAKER_00: Sorry.

Just that made me think of Shoresy.

SPEAKER_01: If you haven't seen the show, there's a Quebec

hockey player named Oh God, Francois Jacques Jean.

SPEAKER_00: Jean-Jacques Jean or some shit.

Well, if it ever comes up, we'll be sure to bring it up.

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02: I mean, we really should have thought ahead and

come up with separate stage names for this for this podcast.

SPEAKER_00: Well, they do it by calling them from JJ Frankie JJ.

So we can none of this means anything.

I have abbreviated.

But anyway, this is not a one of those jokes where it's like, oh,

you had to be there.

SPEAKER_02: This is not a Letter Kenny fan podcast.

SPEAKER_00: Or you had to see the show.

Oh, it was a show?

SPEAKER_02: Yes.

I can't believe you, the hockey fan, have not seen Shorty.

I'm a hockey fan and I've only seen like a couple of Letter

Kenny things.

No.

I know it's a spin-off, yeah.

And it's all hockey.

The only Shortsy clips that I have seen you have showed me.

SPEAKER_00: You need to physically.

Does it come on one of the top three over-the-air stations?

No.

Okay, then I don't watch it.

Because they don't have anything good on them.

So I get my all my news.

SPEAKER_02: Oh God.

But anyway, this is not a Shorty fan podcast either.

It could be.

This is an actual play podcast where we are playing Osric.

Just as a quick rundown, this evening we have to my right

Brian, and you are playing Reese Monin, fighter, leader, inspirer

of men.

SPEAKER_00: Is that what he is?

Something like that.

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02: And that.

And always present when Reese Monin is there is his personal

herald played by Rodney.

My sidekick.

SPEAKER_00: I am playing Pindar, the pure blood, half-elven

fighter mage, who's wondering how he got in this predicament

of doing all of these heroic deeds for nebulous rewards.

We weren't intended to do any of the things we're currently doing

right now.

Somehow we turned ourselves into big damn heroes, and we all hope

just to survive the evening.

SPEAKER_02: Straight across the table from me, and separated

from the rest of the party at this moment is our halfling

buddy, played by Sean.

Yeah, Merrick is hanging out in the woods watching ogres walk

around.

And is there P coming out yet?

Or no, because he hasn't spotted me yet.

Oh, okay.

All right.

Well, we'll see if that happens in a minute.

And John, welcome back to the table once again.

SPEAKER_01: Thank you.

You are playing Edric.

I am playing Edric with a D, just doing a guest voice for the

cleric.

And I also got one.

SPEAKER_02: Did you got it in there?

Did you also accept the character card for the Whitmore,

the NPC?

SPEAKER_01: Yes, we have Whitmore, the fighter, we have

Nim, the Canon Fodder, and So he's playing all the extras.

Sure, why not?

SPEAKER_00: It's got to be multiple personality, so can I?

He's got half a character sheet for like four characters.

Or himself.

Or himself.

But his sheet is now absent as well.

We need to like kind of like a general repository of maybe

digital characters.

I think you're right.

I didn't even sit on the table.

Where did he think we were going to play?

SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's true.

SPEAKER_00: Maybe he has secret notes written about all of us on

his drink.

SPEAKER_02: But anyway, this evening's action is brought to

you by MythMearGames.com, the writers of Osric and of Swords

of Wizardry and many other fine role-playing game products.

And probably begrudging at this point, sponsors of this podcast.

SPEAKER_00: That's not true.

No, they love us.

They haven't given us any feedback telling us how they

appreciate what we're doing.

SPEAKER_02: But we appreciate them.

But they haven't given us any feedback saying we're doing bad.

Oh God, please stop what you're doing right now.

SPEAKER_00: No, we haven't got a cease and desist, so we're doing

good.

All press is good press.

That's all I'm saying.

Well, we all love the game, so you know there's it's not a

problem.

SPEAKER_02: But if you are an old school gamer like we are,

and you love the games of long ago, two of the best modern

recreations of the games of long ago is Swords and Wizardry and

Osric.

Swords and Wizardry is a recreation of the very first

Dungeons and Dragons rules.

Osric is a recreation of first edition advanced Dungeons and

Dragons.

I know this gets confusing if you didn't grow up with it, but

it is still confused.

SPEAKER_00: But the crazy part, it's it's called advanced, but

Osric is a very simple, well laid out game.

There's if you can pick up this book, if you pick up this book

and get confused, you're you probably need to well laid out

downgrade.

No, but this this game, to me, compared to some other games,

there's no gimmicks, it's just straightforward.

A straightforward RPG.

SPEAKER_02: Right.

There are things that reasonable people can argue about with the

rules and how they're constructed and the magic and

things like that.

But these guys do a great job of really elegantly putting this in

a form that you can come in and just pick up and play.

Like I said, mythmeirgames.com, you can get excellent quality

hardcover books of the systems as well as their adventure

guides.

SPEAKER_00: And someday we're gonna use the grapple rules in

here, I swear to God.

It might be tonight.

I hope it's not tonight.

SPEAKER_02: No, there's no there's giants and ogre mages.

Chances are unlikely.

I'm not mentally prepared.

SPEAKER_01: Don't say that.

Talking about the complexity and the layout and everything else,

I'm looking at that book on Rodney's knee there.

And then I'm turning my head, I'm looking over there at the

original player's handbook for A D D, and it is a third the

thickness of the book Rodney has on his knee.

SPEAKER_02: The print is mighty small in a minute.

SPEAKER_01: It is mighty small.

The page quality wasn't as good either.

Right?

SPEAKER_02: Not as much white space.

Well, the it's very legible.

Yes.

They did go.

Just very quickly, I was like looking through our stats this

week.

And we've always had a lot of listeners from from Germany.

They've they have sometimes in in the past overcome even some

English speaking countries in listening to our podcast.

But like in particular, with Os with our Osric episodes, we're

getting a lot of plays in Berlin and Stuttgart and Frankfurt and

a lot of that.

SPEAKER_00: So maybe the word Osric is very close to a German

word for something.

SPEAKER_02: It could be, I don't know.

I don't know.

But anyway, two or mistakes.

SPEAKER_00: Some people searching by accident.

That's right.

That is like we have no active listeners.

We have no active listeners.

We are on six continents.

But we are.

SPEAKER_02: But thank you to all those in Deutschland for tuning

in, as well as Portugal.

We got a lot of Portuguese listeners too.

We're gonna have to learn how to say well, thank you.

I was wondering how we say those words.

But anyway, getting back to the action of the episode.

When last we left, you guys were in a tight spot.

SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we're in a tight spot for sure.

SPEAKER_02: The uh the noose seems to be tightening a little

bit.

As at before we left, a fireball was launched in the direction.

SPEAKER_00: Right, we were doing damage to the fireball.

That was a stealth fireball, thank you very much.

Surprise.

SPEAKER_02: It was no more stealth.

SPEAKER_00: It was stealth.

SPEAKER_02: America's outside the manor house.

The rest of the party is at the front door of the manor house.

And the two ogres accompanying Mozig have uh expired, to the

best of your knowledge.

There was a loud boom.

Things are now on fire that weren't on fire before.

The wolves that were happily feasting on a bag of meat have

become concerned about events other than the bag of meat.

And you have seen three ogres and the ogre mage Belknac coming

up the hill from their position down in the valley.

So did the coming up the hill happen before or after the

fireball?

Before.

SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay.

Well, they were already coming up the hill, if I remember the

description.

SPEAKER_02: Oh, uh yeah.

You had actually in the last episode, you had given the

whistle signal that Whitmore had been using to signal his.

So you guys at the door, you do hear that right before the

fireball goes off.

You hear a a bird call.

SPEAKER_00: Right.

SPEAKER_02: Of the and Whitmore like looks around and then boom,

and then everybody's attention was elsewhere.

SPEAKER_00: Yep.

So well, that's the end of any attempt at stealth.

Well, shit's hit the fan, is what we're saying.

Yeah, fireballs will do that.

What were we thinking?

You were thinking multiple targets in a small confined

space.

That's what you were thinking.

Hey, look, two of the ogres are dead, and there's only one angry

burning giant left.

So finish him.

That sounds like and the door singed.

And the door is still in its hinges because it was open.

So we can get in there and close it behind us.

Not that we even know.

Only one man, halfling, in the group knows anything about

Belknac and his minions coming out of the room.

We know a whistle.

But we did hear the whistle.

So we have no idea where Mer Merrick is.

Yeah, we have no idea where he's coming.

Almost said Morick.

Morick from Oric.

No, I've done it.

SPEAKER_02: But the uh the massive hill giant is aware of

your presence.

SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.

Yeah, I see.

That's surprising.

So go to a little toad.

SPEAKER_02: Combat will commence immediately.

What gave it away?

SPEAKER_00: Okay.

Well, somebody do an issue.

Before round one, declare and then roll, or what are we going

to be doing?

SPEAKER_02: We will start with John and Edric.

SPEAKER_01: We will be casting prayer.

SPEAKER_02: So you're casting prayer.

Okay.

So you'll be casting a spell this time.

SPEAKER_00: Correct.

SPEAKER_02: Just like uh Merrick, you're outside.

You hear the boom.

SPEAKER_00: I'm going to scroll on my phone.

Do it.

All right.

Do it.

We'll see you in three hours.

Do it.

I'm going to fade so that I'm no longer in view of Belnak and all

of his buddies.

SPEAKER_02: Okay.

SPEAKER_00: So you're going to fade back into the woods and

then circle towards.

SPEAKER_02: Hide in shadows and move silently.

SPEAKER_00: Yes.

Okay.

At the same time.

SPEAKER_02: So simultaneously.

SPEAKER_00: Let me like you're good, right?

I want to clarify some some positional things.

Yes.

All right.

So I, Rodney, like like visual aids.

So I'm holding up a sheet of paper.

Like my hand.

So he's a pizza guy.

Because the manor house is on top of a mountain.

Well, give us a little bit of a little bit of a little bit more.

Now we came up, the road comes up the back of the manor, right?

Is that correct?

Where they're there the garden area with the blocked off like

short stone terrace or whatever that was.

SPEAKER_02: Now, certainly this isn't going to come across.

Oh, Jesus.

If you're listening to this point over.

It's an attic.

Let's say this is the gardeny part of the left side.

So this was like the forest where you were.

Right, that's exactly John's side of the table.

Right now, the party is here.

On the roar side of the table.

SPEAKER_00: On the road.

SPEAKER_02: The road winds up this way, ends about here.

The tunnel comes out about here.

So Merrick is in this neighborhood.

SPEAKER_00: Okay, so he would let we call it to the wolves are

here.

Right.

And the are coming up the hill over there.

Coming up the hill over there.

So we are on the opposite side here, yes.

Right.

And the the door that we went in, you were gesturing here the

top like quarter of the paper.

So that's where the entrance to the manor house door that we

opened and then fireballed in.

Okay.

All right.

How far away in the room?

I will be shooting the giant with my bell.

Okay.

As my action.

As your action.

SPEAKER_02: How far away is the giant in this room?

He is 60 feet.

Okay.

You are enlarged.

Yep.

That is charging distance.

What about drinking potion distance?

Well, a drinking potion.

Is an action, I think.

Well, you could drink a potion and move 30.

Or move your regular motion.

You wouldn't be able to drink a potion and then charge.

SPEAKER_00: I'm thinking I need to drink this potion ahead of

time.

Oh, your healing potion.

Yes, because probably two hits from this guy is gonna kill me.

I thought you had like 25 hit points.

unknown: Yeah.

SPEAKER_00: Yeah, giants are pretty strong.

Well, whatever.

It's your potion.

You're at 24 and you got what, 45 max?

40.

Yeah.

Do it.

Yeah, I think you're leaving.

It's 3d8 plus 3.

Yeah.

Could be leaving a little on the table.

SPEAKER_03: We roll.

SPEAKER_00: Yeah.

That'd be tough.

Well, you better do it now.

Or do it later.

Yeah, I'll do it later.

All right.

I think we'll be all right.

Just talk yourself out of it.

SPEAKER_02: Yeah.

Okay, so is there an action in this debate?

SPEAKER_00: Yes, there is.

It's going to be uh moving my full movement rate.

But you're not charging.

Correct.

Okay.

So you could.

I don't want to.

SPEAKER_02: Okay.

Alright.

So you're moving to him.

SPEAKER_00: Yep.

But not charging.

SPEAKER_02: But not charging.

SPEAKER_00: Yep.

SPEAKER_02: All right.

Initiative.

SPEAKER_00: Odd.

No.

Agreed.

Three.

I don't want to get it.

SPEAKER_02: He wants to save his charge.

SPEAKER_00: Oh, right, because there's weird one charge per

combat.

SPEAKER_02: Alright.

The baddies will be going on six.

SPEAKER_00: Okay.

SPEAKER_02: Segment one action.

So that's my architect.

SPEAKER_00: That's not going to be very good.

That is armor class seven.

So probably not going to hit.

That does not hit.

Oh.

SPEAKER_02: Okay.

So now it's your regular turn.

So what is your casting time on five segments?

Five segments.

So that's going to go off on segment nine.

So it's going to go off right before your second shot.

Okay.

You are hiding, and what is your hide and what is your move

silently?

Hide is 45.

SPEAKER_00: Move silently is 55.

Two coin tosses, essentially.

You only need to make hide if you're not moving.

But you're moving and hiding, right?

Trying to fade.

SPEAKER_02: And the look Sean just gave me means I did not

succeed.

Well, you're going to know that you didn't succeed pretty when I

step on the twig and it snaps loudly?

Right.

You trip over a root in the in in the soil and you make a

noise.

And the wolf heads swivel in your direction.

Great.

You got him, dude.

SPEAKER_00: Yeah.

Just climb a tree, it'll be fine.

That's where I'm heading.

I just inspired you.

Is that what you did?

Yeah.

Leaders.

He's a leader.

You get zero bonus for that.

SPEAKER_02: Okay.

I feel zero bonus for that.

You move your full movement and you are close enough to smell

the giant's breath.

SPEAKER_00: Okay.

What does it smell like?

Yeah, I want to I that's too inform our listeners.

SPEAKER_02: So you were enlarged, and you and you as as

you stride towards him, you maybe see just the slightest

hint of there's belligerence there, sure.

Oh yeah.

But there's a slight tinge of fear.

SPEAKER_00: Oh.

He doesn't know that.

You should probably tell him.

I'm pretty sure you can figure out that the big dude killed his

bro.

Maybe.

They are hill giants.

Fear, but also arousal.

Oh.

I mean, wait a ruined a moment, dude.

They aren't smart.

You can use that word, but it doesn't necessarily mean what

you think it means.

SPEAKER_02: So on segment six, we all know what he's intended.

SPEAKER_00: Yes.

SPEAKER_02: On segment six, the giant overcomes whatever

internal doubts he has and makes a short five-foot charge towards

you, bellowing in high-pitched rage.

SPEAKER_00: Well, I get to attack him because he charged

me, right?

SPEAKER_02: Well, that's where the longer weapon thing comes.

SPEAKER_00: Okay, he's probably gonna I got a long sword, so

he's probably the use sword is longer.

If the defender has a longer weapon than the attacker, the

defender attacks first.

What kind of weapon do you have, Doc?

I have a long sword.

SPEAKER_02: The extremely large knurled club that he is wielding

comes down from a height and slams into the cobblestone.

SPEAKER_00: He missed.

I deftly dodged.

You're in his head though.

You're in his head, man.

He's scared.

I can see it.

SPEAKER_02: From atop the tower.

SPEAKER_00: Oh, damn, there's ogres up there.

SPEAKER_02: You see an ogre, and he wields a very large rock in

his hand.

Martin, he knew how this goes.

Well, it's gonna hit nothing, actually.

Who was he throwing it at?

Well, he was throwing it in general.

He was bowling pin.

unknown: Okay.

SPEAKER_02: I was going to roll and then I was going to figure

out who it hit.

In the combat, though, with the he was not throwing it at the

combat, he was throwing it at the people at the door.

So us.

Yes.

SPEAKER_00: He's just looking to Yeah.

Right.

That's what I was getting at.

Trying to figure out the thing.

SPEAKER_02: You guys see it coming, you duck out of the way,

and it smashes against the lintel of the main gate.

And then plaster and stone bits fly everywhere.

And it is now segment nine, you're mean A.

SPEAKER_01: I say two.

SPEAKER_02: And what does prayer do?

SPEAKER_01: Plus one to attack, plus one to damage, plus one to

saving throws for anybody that's within 60 feet.

And anybody that's And I mean he's negative one to the same

within sixty feet.

Okay.

For the next one.

SPEAKER_00: So he's on the Edric.

He's on the very edge of that.

That might have been the most useful thing he's ever done.

Plus one to hit, plus one to damage.

So you have been with us this entire time.

And you could have done this.

What kind of triomino's god do you worship?

Who the hell, Edric?

This could have been handy when we were fighting the other giant

or any number of times in the past.

The Lord of Triplets has definitely let us down.

Oh God.

It seemed to your best.

SPEAKER_01: It seemed to pass.

SPEAKER_02: Now the other John is looking at his phone right

now, but he just texted me and he said that his character was

going to do nothing this round.

SPEAKER_00: Thank you, John.

Thanks, John.

All right, so that was plus one.

So I'm an addition.

So I'm always there's a lot of passive aggression here tonight.

SPEAKER_01: There's a lot of passive more than usual.

Yes, plus one to attack, damage, and saving throws.

SPEAKER_00: Okay.

I'm just trying to figure out my total pluses to hit the damage

now.

You're going to be plus two extra over your normal because

one is from their strength from being large, and the other is

for five rounds.

And so you'll get plus two to damage for the 18th strength,

but you already had one.

So you'll actually be plus two to damage and plus two to attack

extra over all your other.

Yep.

SPEAKER_02: Okay.

So we're going to move on to round two.

Okay.

Actions, we're going to start with Reyes.

Obviously, you're going to be swinging away.

SPEAKER_00: Yeah.

SPEAKER_02: Pindar.

SPEAKER_00: So we're outside, and the ogres are they're in

like at the little tower on the corner of the of the building,

right?

SPEAKER_02: So the manor.

Like you're here, right.

Long corridor.

Right.

This side is the is the mess hall in the kitchen.

There's a tower here.

Oh, at the far end.

That's got a bonfire at the top, and that's where the ogre is.

SPEAKER_00: So they were all the way down at the other end of

this corridor.

Correct.

Oh, okay.

So we were to ever try to break into, say, the main hall, or

somebody was in this corridor itself, that's the most

susceptible area to attack from these ogres.

Correct.

Okay.

Well, I thought that for some reason they were right up.

SPEAKER_02: Obviously, if you're on this side of the building,

you could be attacked by them too.

Right, right.

But probably if you're over here, they're not going to be

able to do that.

SPEAKER_00: Right, right.

But if I was to say get out of the open doorway, would I be

still susceptible to ogre fire?

No.

Oh, well, excellent.

Then that's what I do.

Okay.

So you and I check R6, because I heard the whistle.

I'm going to turn around and I'm going to be I'm going to check

our six.

I'm going to keep an eye in that direction.

SPEAKER_02: Okay.

Are you going to be moving a considerable distance or are you

just going to be ducking out of the door?

SPEAKER_00: I'm ducking out of the door.

I might go down like 20 feet just to stay out of the bright

lights, maybe get myself in a little darkness and see what's

coming.

If there's anything coming around the corner, I will shoot

it in the face.

SPEAKER_02: All right.

Merrick, you failed both of those roles, by the way.

You jumped up and down.

Hey.

So what are you going to be doing this round?

The wolves are definitely aware of you.

You don't know if anybody else is.

Oh, okay.

So I don't know.

I didn't see the ogres go or anything.

Right.

You don't know.

But the wolves are close and they smell you.

SPEAKER_00: I'm going to take off in a direction that is not

towards either of them.

SPEAKER_02: Okay.

And it's down a considerable slope.

Or you can run back towards the garden, but that would be the

ogres would definitely see you if you cross the road.

I guess I'm going down a considerable slope.

SPEAKER_00: Okay, so you're I'm ditching perfect.

The wolves will chase him and we'll be safe.

Well, that's the whole idea.

The worst thing I could do right now is lead all of them back to

you.

It would suck if you did, yes.

Yeah, that would be bad.

Okay.

SPEAKER_02: John, what is the action of Edric?

SPEAKER_01: I'm going to attempt to cast another spell.

SPEAKER_02: Okay.

So you're casting a spell this time as well.

SPEAKER_01: What?

SPEAKER_00: Doing stuff?

SPEAKER_02: It's going all out, man.

SPEAKER_00: Is this what competent spellcaster?

Old person won't work on an ogre.

Yes, it will.

Whoa! Are we re-reinterpreting?

It's medium or smaller and non-bipedal.

Ogre is large.

SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's medium or smaller, it won't work on.

SPEAKER_00: Oh, no, that's a medium.

Oh, that's a misprint.

We came up with we saw that earlier because Eric asked the

same question.

We're like, that's gotta be a misprint.

It's not meant to work on large creatures, it's meant to work on

medium or small.

SPEAKER_01: That's the second edition ruling.

SPEAKER_00: I know, but I think that they just missed it.

Should we look at the first original ADD version?

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01: Or look into the Osric book.

SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that was the mini spell book print on demand

RPG, drive-thru RPG, where you just have the spells from Osric

and print it out.

Which is also nice.

SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it is are you going to cast a deaf different

spell then?

SPEAKER_01: Or would the scroll of cause fear work against him?

SPEAKER_02: Against whom?

SPEAKER_01: The giant.

SPEAKER_02: Maybe.

Your character wouldn't know much about that because they

didn't ever target any.

Oh, it's touch.

What is?

The cause of fear.

Oh.

It would work on him though.

SPEAKER_01: Alright.

SPEAKER_02: Last edge.

SPEAKER_01: I still can't cast a spell.

I was going to hold it until later, but I'll try to cast

chant, but I do need to move within 30 feet of him.

SPEAKER_02: Okay.

This is interesting.

SPEAKER_00: What is that?

He's reading the first edition book here as a reference.

So the actual original lists out creatures affected by a whole

person spell R.

Okay.

And then it's a list.

Okay.

Yeah.

Brownies, dryads, dwarves, humans, cobalds, lizard men,

nixies, orcs, pixies, sprites, troglodytes.

Your ogre in there anywhere?

The spellcaster needs to needs a small straight piece of iron,

blah, blah, blah.

So no.

Well, maybe it's a giant anyway.

And nobody in that list is big.

unknown: Yeah.

SPEAKER_00: Right?

I think they I think it was just a misprint in the book.

Right.

Okay.

SPEAKER_02: All right.

So are you then casting and moving this time?

Well, no, you can't cast and move.

SPEAKER_01: No, I have to move and then next round I'll move.

SPEAKER_02: All right.

So they can't move after that.

Whitmore has heard the call.

Oh.

But what is Whitmore doing this round?

SPEAKER_00: He's going to shoot his bow at the ogres, but I also

believe that this is a Theorin wand of wonder at the ogres in

top of the tower round.

There's no way he wouldn't be using that wand of wonder those

guys.

unknown: All right.

SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, he texted me too.

Okay.

All right.

No, we got this we got each other those numbers.

I got them on Snapchat right now.

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_01: Are the ogres within short bow range?

SPEAKER_02: It's like a hundred feet.

Snapchat.

SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so that's a minus two.

Because that's medium medium range.

SPEAKER_01: That's fine.

SPEAKER_02: So so Whitmore is firing at the ogre on top of the

tower.

Yes.

And Theron is going to be using his wand of wonder at the ogre

on the top of the tower.

The rhino appears on top of the tower.

SPEAKER_00: Okay.

SPEAKER_02: That would be awesome.

Alright, initiative.

SPEAKER_00: I rolled last time, go ahead, Doc.

SPEAKER_02: Two.

Bad guys on four.

Segment one action, so roll for Whitmore.

He did not hit a damn thing.

Okay.

Arrow whistles into the night.

It's gonna come down somewhere.

unknown: What?

SPEAKER_00: I'm just thinking they look like the same dice I

always have a trouble with.

Yeah, they're pretty similar.

SPEAKER_02: Anyone else have segment one actions?

SPEAKER_00: No.

Nope.

Doc does.

Yeah, my first yeah, my first attack.

Let's run like a little bit.

That will hit AC4.

That hits right.

E twelve baby.

Plus six.

SPEAKER_03: Woo!

SPEAKER_00: Sixteen.

That might be a record.

I hit 18 last week.

Did you?

SPEAKER_01: Okay, all right.

Never mind.

SPEAKER_00: And that's including all the bonuses I gave you.

Yeah, yeah.

Lots of bonuses.

SPEAKER_02: Okay.

You dodge his first big thunk of the club, and you repost with a

with a mighty blow from your long sword, doing 16 points of

damage.

You see the red crimson stain on his purple cloak staining the

armor below it.

Scream at him.

SPEAKER_00: You bleed just like your brother does.

SPEAKER_02: And you smell blood and urine.

SPEAKER_00: Blood and urine.

And fear.

And fear, yeah.

Smell fear.

SPEAKER_02: So segment two.

Actions.

Go ahead and go from there.

Do the second arrow?

No, that's at the end.

SPEAKER_00: I'm just waiting for anything to come around the

corner.

SPEAKER_02: So you're going basically to the corner of the

Yeah, that's yeah, sure.

SPEAKER_00: That's not that far.

SPEAKER_02: Okay.

SPEAKER_00: Right.

SPEAKER_02: Alright.

Merrick, you look at the wolves, click quick look back over your

shoulder, and you plunge over the over the embankment and head

towards the valley floor.

SPEAKER_01: Can I do like a legoless surfing on my shield

kind of thing?

Do you have a shield?

SPEAKER_02: You?

SPEAKER_01: I don't know.

SPEAKER_02: You don't know if you have a shield?

I do have a shield.

Okay.

Are you throwing it down at your feet?

SPEAKER_00: Sure.

Do it, man.

Sure I am.

Do it for the listeners.

Because I'm that cool.

I'm just picturing there's like a cliff of some sort.

It's just gonna end badly.

Oh, I know it's gonna end badly.

I hope it does.

I don't know what the GM's got to die like he's gonna roll

something, but I hope he's rolling.

I don't know what's happening.

What's your deck score?

It's it's the fireball.

That's what he's rolling.

My deck score is a 16.

SPEAKER_02: Okay, you you throw the shield down, you jump on top

of it, and wolves nipping at your heels, you scream down the

hill like Chevy Chase in Christmas Vacation.

Excellent.

Excellent sparks flying.

That's exactly the vibe I was looking for.

And it's bumpy as hell.

All right.

There's rocks, but your your shield is sliding on the gr on

the grass pretty nicely at the moment.

SPEAKER_00: I'll take it.

For future reference, don't ever do this again.

No, hey, I'm all I'm totally okay with him having three, four

hit dice creatures on his heels while we're up here taking care

of business.

I hate this.

SPEAKER_02: You went around the corner.

Whitmore already fired.

You are casting.

No, I just moved jealous.

I wish I could.

The wand of wonder will go off.

SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna jump on my shield.

He's better.

Slide down there.

Wanda wonder on two.

Okay.

Yep.

Is that better?

Roll me a percentile dice.

Mine is not magic.

44.

44.

What does that mean?

Obviously, obviously intending for the ogres on top of the

tower.

That's the wand of wonder rule.

Oh, so what do you want to happen?

You point the wand of wonder at the ogre.

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02: And electricity crackles from your arm holding

onto the wand theorem as a massive lightning bolt streaks

with full effect towards the ogre on the top of the tower.

SPEAKER_00: Maybe I'm giving this back.

Maybe I should have had this in my hand the entire time.

Not that I'm using it.

SPEAKER_02: 6d6 for damage.

SPEAKER_00: What?

What's a lightning bolt?

As your party leader Theron, I demand you give that wand to

Pindar.

All right.

A bolt of lightning streaks from the wand, doing 23 points of

damage.

Save for half.

Save for half.

Yeah, but Dex check to see if he falls off the tower.

SPEAKER_02: And the the ogre is caught directly in the abdomen

and seems to explode with the electrical energy coursing

through its system.

The body blackens and you see sparks flying out of his ear

holes.

Wow.

And the ogre topples down behind the behind the Tieran.

SPEAKER_00: I think that's the most effective you've ever been.

Sorry, I was looking at my phone.

What was that?

The first fireball.

His first fireball was pretty epic.

Yeah.

Second fireball was useless or useful too.

So much aggression.

Albert's gonna hear this.

Alban's gonna hear this and quit.

Never gonna play again.

She's like, I'm done with you assholes.

Ski guys.

I don't know.

SPEAKER_02: He knew who we were.

That's right.

SPEAKER_00: When he signed up for Detroit, he he had the full

experience.

He read the release form.

One thing's for sure, old Belknack probably saw that too.

Yeah, yeah.

Belnake, I'm sure he knows exactly what he's thinking.

Maybe I should turn around at this point.

He might be the lightning bolts.

All his boys are dead.

No, he's thinking, oh, look, all of their good spells are gone.

Like we were thinking.

That's what he's thinking.

SPEAKER_01: Like we were maybe what I would be thinking.

SPEAKER_00: You don't know how to seed the GM's mind at all.

You are like a secret undercover GM helper.

Right?

Okay.

SPEAKER_02: Moving the point of the action from the uh my second

attack.

Not yet, you don't.

I do.

Oh.

Put in his place.

Not yet, you don't.

Aren't we at the end?

No.

No.

We just got to the bad guy's turn.

Oh, but that's that bad guy.

So moving the action to the hillside.

Um three wolves, three wolves snap at your heels as you are

sliding down the steep hillside.

Bad guys go.

For a few seconds, you think you're in the clear.

SPEAKER_00: And then I don't like the way you say that.

SPEAKER_02: That was a very you actually hear a couple of the

wolves uh whimpering as the as they like snap fore claws on on

rocks and things and go tumbling.

There's one little problem with this whole concept.

SPEAKER_01: This is about how many hit points I have left.

SPEAKER_02: Well, well, two of the wolves made lunges at you

and they ended up tumbling as you slide down the hill.

And you can hear them yipping in frustration.

But one of them So you defeated two of them.

One of them stays on you and snaps.

SPEAKER_00: He's making the roll really good right low.

SPEAKER_02: It was a natural 20.

SPEAKER_00: Oh.

Goodbye, Merrick.

Why?

How many hit points did you have?

You don't want to know.

Single digits.

No, I have more than one.

Okay, because I remember he was really close at one point to

being dead.

And you don't have any healing.

Nine.

You don't have any healing, do you?

I think I have one shit.

Maybe we can live.

So this is 44 dice, probably.

SPEAKER_02: And I have to remind you that I use these.

Oh, you're gonna roll it in the open.

Roll it in the open.

Dude, those dice roll it in the body.

SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.

SPEAKER_02: Is that 16?

No, okay.

17.

No, it's one short of maximum damage.

SPEAKER_00: I'm dead.

We full on I'm dead.

We caused those dice.

But now it's a stretcher with a corpse on it sliding down the

hill.

You are a dead body floater floating down the hill.

unknown: Damn it.

SPEAKER_01: Okay.

SPEAKER_00: So uh Eric, you're dated.

I'm at negative five.

Oh and there's nobody with you.

Nope.

I'm dead.

And it's hungry.

I mean, it just ate, but it's still hungry.

A fresh half like who wouldn't?

Well, uh I need a drink.

I'll tell some of you guys later.

Wait, why don't you just play Theron?

There you go.

SPEAKER_01: Well, I can go get a drink and I'll still be playing

Theron.

Okay.

SPEAKER_00: He's gonna go cry.

He's actually gonna go cry.

I would like to say that this is only the second or third

official death on Retro Rollcast.

SPEAKER_02: Well, he's not dead yet.

He's gonna be dead in five rounds.

Oh, is that how we do it?

Because it's the countdown to minus 10.

Okay, I didn't know.

SPEAKER_01: Except for the direwolf.

It's gonna be hard.

SPEAKER_00: Who's gonna eat me like immediately and nobody's

around.

SPEAKER_01: So yeah, I'm dead.

SPEAKER_00: We don't even know where you are.

Right, exactly.

Like, no clue.

unknown: Yeah.

SPEAKER_00: I'm not saying that facetiously, like we would have

no idea you went over that hill.

Done.

SPEAKER_02: Well, nobody would know what the other ogres in

Bellknack are doing at this point.

Nope.

Nobody's got eyeballs on them.

Nope.

So they do some stuff.

Okay.

And now we are back to the uh Whitmore's target is gone

because the lightning bolt took care of it.

He'll wing one towards the giant then.

SPEAKER_00: He's in close combat, so yeah, that's a it's a

crap shoot.

I'd be pissed if Whitmore shot me.

Yeah.

I would if like half link shot me, I would just probably I'd

probably give him a whole lot of shit and let it slide, but

Whitmore I'd probably kill.

Don't have to worry about that anymore.

Sean is going down over the hill.

He's going to cry.

He's going downstairs to cry.

I know he is.

SPEAKER_01: Whitmore will hold his second arrow to.

Could call Whitmore.

SPEAKER_02: Okay, so you're just holding your holding your fire.

Actually, your sever attack.

SPEAKER_01: He'll cover Pindar.

SPEAKER_02: My second attack.

SPEAKER_00: That's gonna hit.

What is that?

It's a 1316 negative.

I hit zero, so yeah.

SPEAKER_02: All right, yeah, that will definitely eight.

Sixteen and eight.

SPEAKER_00: Twenty-four that round.

That's pretty good.

SPEAKER_02: And the ogre is bloodied.

SPEAKER_00: You mean the giant?

SPEAKER_02: And pissing himself.

SPEAKER_00: Just now.

Like now.

This has been three rounds of him pissing himself.

No, but the bladder part.

He's got a lot of bladder.

SPEAKER_02: He made a save on the fireball.

Okay.

SPEAKER_00: So he still took a little.

Ten.

Probably a bit more.

SPEAKER_02: He was on the verge of being bloodied the first

attack.

I got it.

SPEAKER_00: And yeah, and this was a this was a minor scratch.

I honestly hoped you were all he was almost dead, but that's we

got another round.

SPEAKER_02: All right.

You have seen craven fighters before, Reyes.

You know what a man looks like when he is done with the fight

and he's going to stop.

And you see that in Mozak's eyes right now.

SPEAKER_00: Well, that's pretty pretty sad that he can't get out

without going through all of us first.

True story.

SPEAKER_02: Well, there is a door at the other end of the

court.

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00: Well, it was piled with stuff, but we blew that

out.

Well, it was a big thing.

SPEAKER_02: Well, no, the door that was piled with stuff was on

the side.

SPEAKER_00: It's just on fire, though.

SPEAKER_02: And it's on fire.

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00: Okay.

But there's another door he's going to go rent.

There's another door.

Well, you guys have bows, so.

And there's no type of opportunity in this game, or is

there any?

SPEAKER_02: There is if if they bolt.

SPEAKER_00: Oh well, he's bolting, isn't he?

No.

He knows he's a beaten giant.

SPEAKER_02: Alright, so actions this round.

We'll start with Edric.

You are you've moved forward and you're within range now.

SPEAKER_01: Do I see that he's possibly going to either bolt?

SPEAKER_02: You saw him give him a mighty blow and you saw the

light go out of Bosick's eyes just a little bit.

SPEAKER_01: Yeah, hold action.

SPEAKER_02: So you're gonna hold nine.

And what's Whitmore gonna do?

SPEAKER_01: He's gonna well again, if he sees him running,

he's gonna put two arrows into him.

SPEAKER_02: Okay.

Alright, so conditional if he runs, he's going to fire.

Okay.

Pindar.

SPEAKER_00: I am still at the corner of the building eyeing

the road area.

So anything that comes up the road, ideally there's enough

light for me to see it.

I'm not quite sure between the flaming building and whatever

phase the moon is in.

That is important.

Right.

We should figure that out.

I believe we stated that it was a waning gibbous, which means it

will buy the moonlight.

Yeah, but if it's waning, so it won't rise until midnight.

So it's not going to be moonlight out there.

So we're not we're just got what the building gives.

Plus, if it's cloudy, we won't see it anyway.

It's so awesome.

Having a character that knows all this shit.

SPEAKER_02: And you're going to attack, I'm assuming.

Yeah, that's really my only option.

SPEAKER_00: You get the feeling that this uh is going to be.

Oh, wait, didn't we discuss what our mage is going to do?

Was there two ogres on top of that thing?

I thought at one point there was two, but we only saw the one.

I think they're both very dead.

I don't know.

I remember hearing the other thing.

SPEAKER_02: You haven't seen you saw two ogres on top of that

tower before.

Okay.

All right.

Just go.

I've seen one.

But you've only seen one during this fight.

SPEAKER_00: All right, that's fine.

All right.

Let's let's He's gonna do nothing this round.

We'll roll a D6, but do nothing's roll initiative.

SPEAKER_02: Five.

All right, bad guys go on four.

Edric shimmering in the air in front of you, you all of a

sudden see a tiny wings-flapping demon.

SPEAKER_00: Oh, that son of a bitch.

Oh, his boy.

That's right.

I forgot all about him.

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02: And the demon strikes at you with a

scorpion-like tail.

And that will hit an armor class of Edric had one lower than me.

SPEAKER_00: He's a two, but.

SPEAKER_01: That'll hit an armor class of two.

That's a hit, unfortunately.

Just barely.

Okay.

SPEAKER_00: But does your chant help for you and hinder him?

SPEAKER_01: Okay.

That's true.

Prayer is still active, so actually he missed.

Okay.

Yep.

By one.

By one.

That's good because I wasn't.

SPEAKER_00: I didn't want to see the save versus poisoner die

roll.

No, well.

But would have save would have gave you a save a bunch of

things.

A bunch of save, and priests are good at it.

And oh no.

We don't have any ointment anywhere nearby.

You don't know where the ointment is.

The ointment's more important than the halfling.

And the magic dagger.

We'll never find any of that stuff.

I'm gonna s I'm gonna spend the rest of my days hunting for the

halfling's body.

You're gonna be looking through warg poop.

Yep, that's it.

All right.

SPEAKER_02: Okay, so that is that action.

The the giant goes and breaks and tries to run.

Screaming, help help me.

Towards the towards the doors at the end of the corridor.

You can get your opportunity attack.

SPEAKER_00: That's gonna hit a lot.

Negative two, three, something like that.

Yeah, eighteen.

What is it?

Yeah, negative two.

SPEAKER_02: Okay.

Yeah, max damage.

SPEAKER_01: Eighteen.

SPEAKER_02: Jesus.

Okay.

SPEAKER_01: There is no hazels here.

Wait, yes.

Alright.

SPEAKER_02: No, he's still alive.

He stumbles and slips a little bit on his own blood.

Of course, yeah.

As he makes his way towards the buttons.

He breaks into a run and he just like bowls right through the

door.

Door crashes open.

Does Whitmore get a shot?

Whitmore can shoot now.

Let's go, buddy.

SPEAKER_01: Miss.

Yeah, this can be what?

AC.

Yeah, he'll AC 10.

Yeah, that would miss.

Even with Shucks behind.

SPEAKER_00: He's got one hit point left and gotta be oh man.

SPEAKER_02: What was only one aircraft?

What was Theran doing?

SPEAKER_00: He was holding his action.

SPEAKER_02: Okay.

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00: Could do.

I mean, or roll it up.

Or roll it dice.

No, too late for that.

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02: No.

And somewhere on a hillside, something happens.

SPEAKER_00: Girl.

Really all shaking our heads.

Because there's literally nothing we could do about this.

SPEAKER_01: Would Edric get a shot at the since he held his

action, would Edric be able to hit the homoculus thing?

SPEAKER_00: No, because you have to charge, right?

Well, he's right in front of me.

I know.

It's just these weird.

SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he's within now within rules, and you're in

combat.

I'll allow a I'll allow a shot.

SPEAKER_01: Why not?

What's the worst that's going to happen?

That would be a yeah, AC six.

SPEAKER_00: Oh, that message.

Yeah.

Is there turning for clerics in this game?

Mm-hmm.

Because you might be able to turn the demon.

SPEAKER_01: No.

Undead only.

Turn undead, turn evil.

There's protection from evil, but there's not turn.

SPEAKER_00: I don't know.

Again, I'm thinking segment 2e.

I know.

But I think I thought in 2e I might have allowed it.

But we'll see.

Anyway, it's all neither here nor there.

Nope.

SPEAKER_02: Okay.

Okay.

Next round.

Actions.

SPEAKER_00: I'm running after the ogre.

It's not attacking if I can charge.

SPEAKER_02: You if you charged, you could you could bowl into

the back of them.

Yep.

He's uh he's outside the building and basically just

inside the garden there.

SPEAKER_03: Okay.

SPEAKER_02: Okay, so you can do that, Pindar.

SPEAKER_00: I'm going to give the old the old Whitmore

whistle.

Okay.

See if there's any response, because we know we heard it from

our halfling friend.

Right.

And then I'm going to wait to hear a response.

Do I hear anything at all?

I know we got the combat going on back here.

Did I hear the wolves sound like they're feasting on anything?

SPEAKER_02: You don't hear the the snapping of bones or

anything like that.

Okay.

SPEAKER_00: Do I hear any any half link?

Did I hear a half link final scream or gurgle or anything of

the sort?

I don't know how far away he was, to be honest.

I might never heard.

You ever heard somebody fall off of a skateboard?

SPEAKER_02: With a wolf on them.

SPEAKER_00: With a wolf?

That's what it sounded like.

Right, where the moment you fall, the wolf jumps on you?

Yeah.

Yeah, no.

You never saw that?

Okay.

No, I never saw that.

But I'm wincing just thinking about it.

So charges what, an extra plus two to hit?

So without a response, I'm going to move into the woods.

Back into towards the building.

So you're going back?

Yeah, I was at the corner.

Everybody is either at the door or out here, and I didn't get a

response.

If I don't get a response, I'm going to just gonna move back

towards the main door.

SPEAKER_02: Okay, so if you don't hear anything, you're

coming back.

SPEAKER_00: Right.

SPEAKER_02: Okay.

All right.

So you can do that, Edric.

SPEAKER_01: We'll attempt to turn undead against the

homoculus.

SPEAKER_02: Okay.

SPEAKER_01: Because well, does it count as a lesser fiend?

Ooh.

SPEAKER_02: It does count as a lesser fiend, yes.

SPEAKER_01: They will attempt to turn undead.

Where are the rules for that?

SPEAKER_02: They should be in the cleric section.

It would be for turn undead.

Should be right along with the rules for the classics.

SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it should they I think I'd be early.

It's not this chart up here.

No.

Yeah.

No, yeah.

I don't believe we've ever actually turned any undead in

retro role cast history.

SPEAKER_02: No.

SPEAKER_00: Maybe a lot of first tonight.

SPEAKER_02: I mean, that that's like me as a DM.

I tend to not like undead as enemies.

SPEAKER_00: But they are the classic undead, is the classic

undead enemy.

Yeah, I like undead.

Yeah.

I think they're you can overdo them.

Sometimes I've had my tendencies to overdo it.

SPEAKER_02: I'm not saying I wouldn't do it, but.

SPEAKER_00: He got it.

He found it.

Okay.

If it's so many hit dice, it just happens.

Well yeah, what they don't know about in this game, I know.

SPEAKER_02: So you're turning the thing.

What is Whitmore doing?

SPEAKER_01: He cannot he the the giant is out of range.

He's through the door, yeah.

He's through the door.

So again, go back to covering Pindart.

Maybe he'll join Pindart at the corner to make see if there's

anything coming up the hill.

SPEAKER_02: Okay.

All right.

Initiative.

SPEAKER_00: Wiped in tears.

SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.

Man.

Bye.

Bad guys go on.

Segment one.

All right.

Let's see where we are.

Mozig breaks into a sprint and tears across the garden.

He smashes through a piece of statuary and keeps on going.

SPEAKER_00: We may never see him again, which we're all okay

with, I guess.

SPEAKER_02: But you're but he's probably made a he used his full

sprint, so your charge isn't gonna catch him.

But you're still gonna do it.

You well actually no, because uh do you guys see any of this yet?

The little demon turns invisible.

SPEAKER_00: Okay.

I don't even know the little demon's there.

Me either.

SPEAKER_02: And you guys don't notice anything else.

Alright, so did I make my way back in towards the So you make

your way back in as Whitmore is coming out.

Okay.

Heading your way.

SPEAKER_00: Okay.

Hey, I didn't.

There's nobody I don't know where Mer where Mer Merrick is.

Lancer to my whistle.

Damn.

SPEAKER_01: That's not good.

SPEAKER_00: Well, he could have some enemies close and he's just

keeping quiet, too.

Should we go find him or should we deal with There's wolves out

there?

Yes.

I don't know.

I was on the corner of the building just waiting to see if

anything came around and nothing was coming around.

I whistled, he didn't show up.

I'm not sure where he is.

SPEAKER_01: Well then I think we should chase the giant.

SPEAKER_00: I'm not gonna catch him.

I got at least little tiny legs, and I'm wearing a big suit of

armor.

SPEAKER_01: I'd turn and look back down the hallway.

Well, I guess it'll come around come back around.

He's gone, though.

Ogre's gone, giant's gone.

SPEAKER_02: So you look down the hallway, you see him bursting

through the door after Mozag.

You see Edric in the in the center, he's like holding his

tripartite holy symbol ahead of him at something that you can't

see.

Okay.

In just past the middle of the hallway, there are two doors

that are on fire.

And they're open in either direction on the left and on the

right.

And then there's the open door at the center.

SPEAKER_00: Nim.

SPEAKER_02: And nothing's nothing's popped back up in the

battlements of the tower.

SPEAKER_00: Nim, where are all these slaves?

He points towards the right hand.

All right, let's go.

Okay.

We'll let Reyes chase down the giant.

Yeah, old Grosik, and then we'll we will check the doors that are

on fire.

Well, it's just fire.

We get we just move.

Kick it in.

Yeah, it's all they're already open.

They're blue open, I believe.

So just walk around them.

SPEAKER_02: Okay, Merrick.

Your vision is fading.

Blood is gurgling up in your I made my new character.

SPEAKER_01: I just erased the M and put a B.

So he's Barically.

He's Baronley now?

That's his his brother.

His cousin.

SPEAKER_02: That he grew up with, same age.

Is it his cousin?

Cousin in the halfling Thorpe?

Cousin Barrick, yes.

Okay.

SPEAKER_00: That's our very first edition.

SPEAKER_02: But you're lying there on your shield, bleeding

your your last into the night sky.

Yes, I am.

But just before you go on unconscious, you had heard a

sharp whistle.

And the wolf and the other wolf that survived its tumble came

tearing, went tearing back up the hill.

Oh, great.

At its master's call.

SPEAKER_00: Lucky me.

SPEAKER_02: But you're you have come to a stop leaning up

against a rock, and you're just, and then darkness falls.

SPEAKER_01: So instead of dying instantly, I get to die in five

rounds.

Slowly.

Well, three more.

Three rounds.

Three rounds.

Three rounds, sorry.

SPEAKER_02: And I don't know if anybody can get to you.

Oh no.

No.

I don't know where to look.

Don't know where I am.

SPEAKER_00: I'm off.

No, he's dead.

Let's not forget the fact that we don't like you either.

So we're not probably looking very hard.

If I knew he was there, I would make the effort.

If he was right in front of me, I might.

No, I would do it.

Look, only because we all would expect the same of any one of

our friends, right?

I'm going to rub the ointment on myself.

You can't even do that.

No, because you're unconscious.

Right.

SPEAKER_02: All right.

So you burst into the door and you see the purple robed figure

is out distancing you.

And you burst into the open.

And across the courtyard of the of the old abandoned garden, you

see a blue-skinned ogre staring at you.

And three ogres are fanned out.

SPEAKER_03: This is exactly how it's going to go down.

SPEAKER_00: I'm going to wave at them and turn around and run

back inside.

SPEAKER_02: But that's the end of that round.

Damn it.

So actions for the following round.

SPEAKER_00: What I just described.

Join me.

I'm going to.

I don't think I'm making it out of this one.

Three ogres and an ogre movie.

E P K.

E P K.

SPEAKER_01: Do I sense the evil fiend still floating around

anywhere?

Is he completely gone?

He's gone.

SPEAKER_02: You don't sense his presence anywhere.

SPEAKER_01: All right.

Well then I'll go help the other two.

SPEAKER_02: You see Whitmore and Pindar come in towards the

slaves into the hallway.

Fine.

SPEAKER_00: Join them in the hallway.

Somebody will be able to win this adventure.

SPEAKER_02: So you're all in the middle of the hallway.

Right.

He's a vegetables.

He is outside the front door.

SPEAKER_00: Right.

SPEAKER_02: Nim and Thard have never left the doorway, and

they're just shaking.

Let's go.

Take us to the other slaves.

Okay.

And is there anything I'm forgetting?

SPEAKER_00: Probably.

Fearin will tag along.

SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, Fearin.

SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he hasn't touched me.

He's on the phone.

Yeah, no, it'll be fine.

He's just gonna right?

He's gonna follow everyone else for now.

I'm thinking he would probably shoot a magic missile at the

fleeing ogre.

Really, because he knows it's gonna hit.

If he can see it.

Yeah.

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_02: You see the purple robe figure disappear over.

He passed Bell Mac and kept running.

SPEAKER_00: Just kept running.

All right.

Well, I I just would think Theran wouldn't know to wing a

wounded target.

But he's not within.

Theron never really moved out that way.

He never really moved into the building at all.

So Theran will close the door and bar it behind us.

Okay.

How about that?

SPEAKER_02: As as as Nim and Thard.

Right.

Get in, bar the door.

So you're closing and barring that door.

SPEAKER_00: Theron will bar the door.

SPEAKER_02: All right.

SPEAKER_00: That's a very Theran thing to do, right?

SPEAKER_02: Sure.

SPEAKER_00: Hide?

SPEAKER_02: I agree.

SPEAKER_00: Yeah.

SPEAKER_02: Okay, so next round actions.

We'll go with Reyes first.

You're out.

You're the one that sees enemies.

SPEAKER_00: I'm going to get back inside, I guess.

And let them know it it's they're coming.

You shutting and barring the door?

Yeah.

Do it.

Yeah, because I don't want that to happen.

Get shot by the neighbors.

Yeah, I'll run in and try and shut the door behind me and let

these guys know.

Okay.

I'm following wherever Nim is leading.

That's right.

I'm in the main.

We're in the courtyard corridor, the main.

So you're shouting for Nim to go ahead.

Like, go where and he is that the door?

If I if that's what I gotta do, like, is that the door?

Because he kind of pointed the one direction, right?

SPEAKER_02: Right.

SPEAKER_00: If that's the door, that's the door I'm going

through.

SPEAKER_02: Well, if he points at the door, that that's you are

you going ahead of him, or are you allowing him to go through

the room?

SPEAKER_00: No, I'll go ahead of him.

I'm the hero here.

Okay.

I'm not running.

I am just moving a normal move prepared in case they run into

anything.

SPEAKER_02: All right.

Sean, you are Whitmore.

Am I?

You were suddenly reincarnated as Whitmore.

Oh boy.

Fourth level fighter.

Mm-hmm.

Oops.

With a bow and all that and all that good stuff.

So what is you know that he's gonna tear into the room.

What are you gonna do?

SPEAKER_00: Well, Whitmore was here looking for his friend.

Um Skelly.

No.

Snelly.

No.

Oh, it's around somewhere.

There's a name.

But anyway, that's anyway, that guy.

Stokely.

Stokely.

Stokely.

That's who Whitmore was looking for.

That's one of the only reason we came back was stinking Stokely.

SPEAKER_03: Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_01: Is there any available targets?

SPEAKER_02: No, you're in the middle of the hallway.

Both doors are shut.

You're just looking around.

SPEAKER_01: Which door are you going through?

The left hallway.

SPEAKER_02: Whichever one near the door.

The right hand door from your initial perspective.

So uh whichever one that is, I don't know.

Okay, so you're going in there, Edric.

Pindar demon, and you're following the rest of them.

And what's Theoran doing?

Roll the die.

SPEAKER_00: Yeah, why not?

Roll the die.

SPEAKER_02: Spell is what that says.

SPEAKER_00: Does he see anything?

SPEAKER_02: Not really, no.

SPEAKER_00: Oh.

So he really wants to, but he can't.

So continue light on something inconvenient.

We laugh because it's true.

So yeah, I I mean, I guess there's nothing for him to do.

Did you shout out there?

Yeah, I yelled when I came in that the ogre mage following.

So he and buddies.

So we're in a hallway.

Out the far side ran Grosik out of a door.

Mosik, yes.

Mosig out of a door.

We came in an opposing door.

Correct.

And there is a door to the right, which we are currently

going to go through because that's where Nim directed us to

the slaves.

SPEAKER_02: And the door on the left goes into the mess hall.

Right, where they were stacking all the stuff to keep packed in

that wall.

SPEAKER_00: There is also a tower up top there, correct?

SPEAKER_02: When you're in the corridor, you can see the tower.

Straight up at the end.

SPEAKER_00: Okay.

SPEAKER_02: And you see there's there's also one.

Well, if you turn around, there's one on the other side

there.

But you never saw anybody up there.

SPEAKER_00: Right.

Okay.

All right.

So yeah, I think Theran would probably just hang out in the

hallway here and shoot the first thing that came through.

What spells did we agree that he had?

SPEAKER_02: Magic missile and Magic Missile, Burning Hands,

Continual Light, and that was Spider Climb.

SPEAKER_00: Spider Climb.

SPEAKER_02: No, I don't think he when he sent his list, it didn't

have Spider Climb.

SPEAKER_00: Oh, we had both had it before, and then we both got

rid of it.

Actually, I wish I still had it.

SPEAKER_02: See Invisibility.

SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that way knew.

Because he's getting away the same way.

No, probably not.

SPEAKER_02: That's his get out of death card.

He has two magic missiles, burning hands, invisibility,

continual light.

SPEAKER_00: All right.

I think he'd hang out in the hallway.

Yeah, sounds good.

SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that that sounds like him.

SPEAKER_00: And then whenever something comes through, he'll

either wander wonder it, unless it's Bellneck, in which case

magic missile.

And then he'll die at the uh cone of cold.

SPEAKER_02: Got this all planned out.

All right, so well, they go on one.

What's your three.

Okay.

All right.

So on segment three, you are the first through the door.

And you you you go through the door and you find yourself in a

courtyard.

The courtyard's sort of triangular, so you can see that

ahead of you the two walls form in like a very shallow triangle.

There's a door just to the left of the of the apex of that

triangle.

SPEAKER_03: Okay.

SPEAKER_02: Off to the left and to the right, you you see over

and you can see tower doors going into the two towers.

Okay.

I was wondering how you got in those.

That the the one on the left would be the one that the

presumably blackened ogre is on top of.

And the one on the right is the one you never saw anybody.

SPEAKER_00: Gotcha.

SPEAKER_02: There is a series of very heavy stone pillars holding

up like a walkway directly overhead, but on the other side

of that walkway, it's open to the night sky.

SPEAKER_00: Okay.

And then there's a door, like I said, across the walkway is not

a parapet around a wall.

It's just a crossover of the courtyard.

SPEAKER_02: You think it from looking at it, you think it

joins the two towers?

SPEAKER_00: The two towers.

Okay.

All right.

So you don't have to go to the ground to go from tower to

tower.

Correct.

Being in these towers might actually be useful.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure how useful any of this is against an

flying ogre mage.

Who's walking right now?

All right.

So, Nim, which door?

The far door?

SPEAKER_02: He points straight across the courtyard.

SPEAKER_00: How many doors beyond that?

How far how much further?

SPEAKER_02: There's a corridor that's where the the ogres had

their quarters, and then there's Moses' chamber, and then all the

way at the end of the building is where they keep us.

SPEAKER_00: Is there a way out there?

SPEAKER_02: Looking out over the cliff.

SPEAKER_00: Is there an exit that way, any kind of exit?

SPEAKER_02: He destroyed the wall in his bedroom.

SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay.

We can go out that way then.

SPEAKER_02: But no, there's no other doors going out.

SPEAKER_00: But we can get out.

SPEAKER_02: Just over the cliff, and then there's out.

The cliff.

His bedroom.

Okay.

SPEAKER_00: Where's Reyes?

Who?

Where's Reyes?

I'm in the middle.

I came back in.

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02: Well, okay, but we went through the room.

So you guys all have you all are in this courtyard.

SPEAKER_00: Except for Reyes.

No.

I'm out in front.

Because he hasn't gone yet.

I haven't yet.

I haven't done anything.

But I'm going to stay there because I think the dude's

coming, so I'm going to fight him.

SPEAKER_02: Okay.

All right.

So you're standing there and you have the there's three ogres

across the way.

SPEAKER_00: But I came in and barred the door behind.

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_02: Right.

SPEAKER_00: Yeah.

Okay.

SPEAKER_02: So they're on the other side of the street.

SPEAKER_00: Yeah.

All right.

God damn it.

I'm going to go up in this tower.

Which one?

The one in front.

Okay.

SPEAKER_02: All right.

So you're turning to the left, going through the door.

Okay.

SPEAKER_00: I'm shaking my head.

It's a bad idea.

You're doing it anyway.

SPEAKER_02: Whitmore.

I'm following him.

Following him to the tower?

SPEAKER_01: Following him.

So and Theran.

We'll follow.

Unless we want to send Theron to support Reyes.

SPEAKER_00: Theron, go to the other tower.

Yeah.

Okay.

So he splits off to the right and the room.

SPEAKER_02: Right.

SPEAKER_00: He goes up the tower behind us.

SPEAKER_02: Towards the other tower.

Okay.

All right.

All right.

So if you open the tower door and the ground level of this

tower, you can see there are four cutouts in the wall with

arrow slits about that wide.

Oh, sweet.

Um looking at looking out over the where the road comes into

the in towards the manor house.

I got one of them.

On the back wall, you can see the stairs, a very steep stairs

ascending up to the to the tower, but you don't actually

see how an ogre would have gotten up them.

They're very narrow.

unknown: Oh.

SPEAKER_00: Okay.

Well, yeah, I'm gonna go poke my head through one of these little

slits and see if I can see anybody outside.

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02: Okay.

So you looking out the hole, you see three ogres, and they appear

to be piling up rocks and statuary.

By the front door?

Out in the garden area.

SPEAKER_01: Oh, they're like they're making a little bit

don't see they're going to start throwing them.

SPEAKER_00: The blue ogre.

Oh, okay.

Yeah, well, it's all on you, Reyes.

He's invisible right now.

SPEAKER_02: So Theran goes at him.

Theron goes to the other tower.

Opens up the door, and he has no comparative, but this tower is

actually a little bit wider.

And there are five arrow holes going out the other side of the

building and a stair going up.

And then there is another door off to the left of where he

enters the tower.

SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.

Okay.

So do we want to get Reyes over here and start shooting at the

ogres?

Does he have a bow?

Yeah, Reyes.

Yeah, I have a bow.

SPEAKER_00: How long did that chant the prayer last?

That's actually done by now.

Okay.

It was five rounds.

Okay.

Okay, excellent.

SPEAKER_02: It kept you from having to make a save.

Uh save versus poison.

SPEAKER_01: Well, there's another one that I can cast, and

I can cast it now on us while you guys are shooting arrows.

SPEAKER_00: Well, let's see how this all goes.

Let's see how it plays out.

Yeah, I just don't know.

I guess I'm gonna head up to the tower too.

SPEAKER_01: We'll send Nim to go get you.

Nim to or the other guy, Thard to come get you.

SPEAKER_00: Well I see where it's where you guys went.

It shouldn't be too difficult to find you.

Yeah.

It's just a matter of where's the ogre mage.

Yeah.

If only I could detect invisible or something.

SPEAKER_01: Or no detect magic.

SPEAKER_00: No, I don't have it either.

Anyway.

Okay.

Yeah, I'm gonna head back towards the the towers.

SPEAKER_01: Alright, so we've got Whitmore, we've got Reyes,

and Pindar also has the ability to shoot arrows.

unknown: Yep.

SPEAKER_02: Alright, and what's Tirin gonna do from here?

He's gonna he's gonna in the tower by himself.

SPEAKER_00: Right.

He's gonna blast.

He has his light rock.

No, he doesn't.

He does put that.

Oh, he's gonna go to the top of the tower.

SPEAKER_02: Okay.

So he's gonna go.

SPEAKER_00: Right, and look out over the courtyard in case

anything comes in that way.

SPEAKER_02: Going up the steps.

SPEAKER_00: I'm thinking about casting invisible.

I think he should be like I think he'd want to be invisible.

Sure.

Yeah.

We're applying with way too much reason, perhaps, to Theron.

You would need very much arch.

I would like to be invisible if this if I was alone in a tower

pilot.

Well he's used it before, so on other people.

SPEAKER_02: No, he's used it on himself.

Oh, did he?

That's right.

No, no, that was the wand.

SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.

Made him invisible, yeah.

Right.

Made him invisible.

SPEAKER_02: It was unintentionally invisible.

SPEAKER_00: Right.

SPEAKER_02: But it worked.

Anyway.

You hear a heavy thud in the roof inside the tower to the

left.

SPEAKER_00: Who does?

Theran or me?

SPEAKER_02: The guy's Well, Theran doesn't hear it because

he's in the other tower.

What's called the front tower?

Anybody from the front that's in the tower that everybody's in

hears the thump.

I'm going to start casting chant.

And the footsteps on the under the roof.

SPEAKER_00: That'd be an ogre mage transforming back to Ogre

Mage from Dragon.

Oh, okay.

And landing on the roof.

Is Merrick's ghosts?

SPEAKER_02: And somewhere somewhere on a hillside in the

dark.

Far from home.

SPEAKER_00: A little gurgle.

SPEAKER_02: The last breath of Merrick Thornleaf is drawn.

SPEAKER_00: Don't worry.

We'll make a town called Merrick's Rest.

SPEAKER_02: Might as well.

Sorry, man.

SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it happens.

That's what happens when you skateboard on a shield.

Rather ignominious doom.

SPEAKER_02: Motherfucker thought he was legoless.

SPEAKER_00: Yep.

Hey, if I was gonna go out, I was gonna go out.

SPEAKER_02: Hey, you went, you went out big.

SPEAKER_00: Yeah.

Little.

He's little as a halfling.

SPEAKER_02: You went out, you know.

SPEAKER_00: He went out.

He went out.

He went out.

We'll just leave it at that.

He has gone out.

He's out.

He's out.

So now Barrick Thornleaf is moving.

Now Barric, Baric hears tales of the death of his brother.

He's here to avenge his cousin.

SPEAKER_02: That wasn't the plan I had for your character, as

speaking as the bad guys, though.

SPEAKER_00: His plan was worse.

I'm glad I thwarted your plan by dying.

They wanted to eat you.

Ha ha! They were gonna eat you.

Boil you, makes sense.

Halfling kebabs.

Of all the times the halfling tried to eat, and Sean always

all his characters always try to eat something.

He ended up not getting eaten.

No, I thought he was.

Well, he got he did he got easy.

Yeah, I'm sure the wolves will be back.

SPEAKER_01: He got eaten.

He will get eaten.

He will get eaten.

He is carrying at this point.

SPEAKER_00: Yeah.

Well, no, those wolves once the you know.

The worms will eat I'll be wolf poop by morning.

That's uh you should get that on a shirt.

I would wear that.

I wouldn't have a good one.

SPEAKER_01: But I am casting well yes, and I am casting chant

at this point.

And I think that's something you have to maintain.

Correct.

Okay.

But it takes me a full full turn to cast.

Okay.

So I'm casting it.

SPEAKER_00: Now a turn.

SPEAKER_02: Turn or a round?

SPEAKER_00: Wait, a turn to cast?

Wow.

Man, that's the one you just throw right out if it's a turn.

SPEAKER_02: Actually, I'm pretty sure Eric cast it in combat.

He might in a round.

SPEAKER_00: It was a round when he did it.

He might have done it wrong, but I don't think he did.

SPEAKER_01: Casting time one round.

SPEAKER_00: Round.

Okay, there you go.

One round.

So if you start on three or whatever, it'll end on three.

So Eric was right.

Sorry.

SPEAKER_01: That's just me.

Sorry.

But yes.

But it's 30-foot radius, and again, you get the plus ones for

your stuff.

Okay.

Attack damage and saving throws.

SPEAKER_02: All right.

So we're not really in combat right now.

But just tell me what everybody's doing.

SPEAKER_00: Shooting the ogres that are piling up the rocks and

statues.

SPEAKER_02: Okay, so you are going into combat.

Okay.

Yeah.

You're going to start winging arrows out.

SPEAKER_00: So you said there's a narrow with stairs or

whatever.

Is it wooden or is it like a It's stone.

Stone, so you can't get under it or whatever.

Correct.

Yeah.

So it's part of the wall.

SPEAKER_02: It's part of the wall.

SPEAKER_00: Okay, I gotcha.

And we hear heard the footsteps land above us.

Above us.

Yeah.

The platform, whatever.

SPEAKER_01: Are you still in large?

SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.

That lasts forty.

40 minutes.

40 minutes.

I can't get up there, we said, right?

Correct.

Can't you?

No.

No.

Who couldn't figure out how the ogres got?

I could cast reduce on you and then cancel reduce, and you'll

shrink back to normal size.

Does it work like that?

No, I don't know.

That'd be pretty rad if it did.

Then you'd be too short to climb the steps.

Or I might just explode because my body doesn't know whether

they get bigger or small.

Right.

Your legs would be giant.

Shiny little baby edge.

All right, let's go.

All right.

We're getting a little punchy.

All right.

So yes, we're gonna I'm gonna shoot the ogres outside.

Yeah, it's on the next one.

Whitmore, what are you doing?

He's on his phone.

Yep, he is.

He's checking his what shooty guys do.

He's never shot arrows before.

SPEAKER_03: Huh?

SPEAKER_00: We're shooting arrows.

Yes, we're shooting arrows.

SPEAKER_02: Okay.

So fire away.

SPEAKER_00: We are going.

Oh, you somebody did it, right?

Earlier?

No.

Alright, well then it's a six for our initiative.

SPEAKER_02: Alright.

The the ogre's got a four, but they don't know they're fighting

yet.

SPEAKER_00: They're just building.

They're about to find out.

Legos.

Because on segment one.

Yes, segment one.

First arrows fly.

We unleash hell.

And it might be a little hell.

Armor class two.

SPEAKER_02: Alright, hits four points of damage.

SPEAKER_00: Um plus one for me.

Plus one, so it's plus two.

What?

Plus one.

Chant.

I hit AC two.

Plus one damage.

Oh, did you start that already?

Oh, he hasn't finished it yet.

SPEAKER_02: The hits roll damage.

Are you shooting at the same ogre?

SPEAKER_00: Yes.

That'll be eight.

All right.

I did four.

SPEAKER_02: All right.

So twelve?

We're more fumbled.

Oh god.

And then you hear a vile bandit curse with a snap.

And then a you guys have a bowstring?

SPEAKER_00: By Merrick's hairy feet.
