Welcome to this week's episode of Casual Camping Podcast.
This week Ade has set Tim a particularly creative challenge: If he could go back to the very start of his camping journey, what equipment would he buy if he still knew all the camping knowhow that he does today?
Tim has reflected on those first purchases and, with hindsight, recognises the mistakes. He spent money on what he thought were the priorities but time has taught him they were the wrong places to focus his funds. He has now pulled together a kit list of items that illustrate exactly where you should focus your money if you are making those very first purchases today.
Come down memory lane with Tim and Ade as they discuss those early days. Then enjoy Tim's virtual spending spree as he piles up the kit he wished he'd bought first.

This week we focus on an incredibly important topic for everyone enjoying the great outdoors: fire safety during the current hot and extremely dry conditions.
With campsites, farmland and countryside under significant pressure from the ongoing heatwave, we discuss why campers need to be extra cautious when using anything that involves a naked flame. Whether it's campfires, fire pits, stoves, BBQs or fireworks, now is the time to put safety first and think carefully before lighting anything outdoors.
Tim shares a personal account from close to home, where wildfires broke out yesterday. Tragically, several homes were destroyed and many acres of farmland were lost as the fires spread rapidly through the dry landscape. It's a stark reminder of just how quickly a small spark can become a major incident.
During the recording of the show, a national emergency alert sounded on mobile phones across the country, warning of the heightened fire risk and making it clear that fires, fireworks and BBQs were prohibited nationally. It was a dramatic moment that perfectly underlined the importance of the conversation Tim and Ade were having.
As always, it seems we've got our finger firmly on the pulse of the camping community, discussing the issue just as it became national news.
Wherever you're camping this week, please stay informed, follow local restrictions, and help protect our countryside, farms, wildlife and communities.
Stay safe and happy camping!

This week Tim and Ade lean back in their camp chairs, (a few) beers in hand, fire crackling, and record straight from the field. It’s loose, warm, slightly chaotic, and absolutely soaked in that midweek magic — the kind you only get when you’ve snuck out for a cheeky local overnighter after work.
They dive into the art of guilt‑free camping: how slipping away on a Monday night can spare you that look from your significant other. The look that says “another weekend… really?”. By keeping it local, keeping it simple, and keeping it midweek, you can scratch the itch for fresh air and firelight without burning through precious family time.
Between the laughter, they talk through the joy of spontaneous micro‑escapes, the freedom of packing light, and the underrated thrill of being back home before anyone even notices you were gone. It’s honest, funny, and full of that familiar Casual Camping energy — two brothers around a fire solving life’s great camping dilemmas one sip at a time.

Tim and Ade received an extra special invitation to head north to Glasgow for a behind-the-scenes experience with one of the UK's most recognisable and beloved outdoor brands, Vango.
As Vango celebrates its 60th anniversary, the lads spent two days immersed in the world of camping and outdoor adventure. From exploring the latest tents, awnings, furniture and camping innovations to getting hands-on with products that have yet to be announced, it really was a case of kids in a toyshop.
The adventure didn't stop at the factory doors. The Vango team took Tim and Ade to the shores of a stunning Scottish loch, where they spent the night camping and putting some of the brand's equipment to the test in the environment it was designed for.
Throughout the episode, you'll hear exclusive interviews with key members of the Vango team as they share insights into the company's history, design philosophy, product development process and what continues to make Vango one of the most trusted names in outdoor living.
Join us for a fascinating look inside an iconic British camping brand, discover what goes into creating the gear we all rely on, and celebrate 60 years of innovation, adventure and unforgettable camping experiences.

This week’s episode is a mix of studio chat and field recording as Tim answers an unexpected call to duty.
With very little notice, Tim found himself rapidly throwing together a kit list, loading up the essentials, and heading off on a lengthy journey to a remote campsite. The mission? To spend a night under canvas and help rescue a damsel in distress. Not all heroes wear capes, and apparently some carry camping gear instead.
From last-minute packing and travel challenges to the realities of an unplanned night in the great outdoors, Tim talks us through the adventure as it unfolded. Recorded partly on location, this episode captures the atmosphere, the highs, the lows, and the moments that make these sudden expeditions memorable.
So settle in and join us as we hear how Tim stepped up, took one for the team, and embarked on what can only be described as an emergency camping mission.

This week Tim and Ade kick things off with a healthy dose of classic Casual Camping chaos — the kind of warm, wandering banter that somehow manages to be both completely off‑topic and absolutely essential. Before long they tumble into the main theme: how to make sure you don’t forget a single thing when heading out on a camping adventure.
They chat through the tools, tricks, and systems that actually work, from digital checklists to old‑school methods that stop you arriving at the campsite only to realise your stove, your torch, or your favourite mug is still sitting at home. There’s plenty of real‑world wisdom mixed with the usual teasing, detours, and one particularly ridiculous tangent where the show briefly transforms into the Casual Campaigning Podcast for no good reason other than it made them laugh.
It’s practical, playful, and full of that familiar energy — a mix of helpful advice and joyful nonsense that makes planning your next trip feel a lot less like admin and a lot more like part of the adventure.

This week Tim and Ade bring peak sibling chaos to the mic before eventually remembering they’re meant to be talking about family camping. Between the tangents, questionable stories, and at least one argument about snacks, they somehow deliver a cracking guide to making trips with the kids fun instead of feral.
They chat about surviving the journey without losing your mind, pitching camp without a meltdown, and keeping the little ones entertained with adventures that cost absolutely nothing. Expect practical tips, plenty of laughter, and the usual dose of Casual Camping nonsense that makes you feel like you’re already sat around the fire with them.

In this episode, Ade and Tim take a step back and look at their micro adventure with fresh eyes. A few days have passed since their night ascent of Mount Snowdon — the climb, the camp, the sunrise breakfast — and now it’s time to reflect.
They talk through what went well, what they’d do differently, and how the whole experience has settled in now that the dust has been brushed off and the tiredness has faded. From the quiet moments on the mountain to the laughter that carried them through the dark, it’s a thoughtful debrief on what adventure really means when life is busy and time is short.
There’s honesty, humour, and a bit of perspective — the kind that only comes after doing something slightly mad and then having a few days to think about it. It’s a conversation about lessons learned, memories made, and the lingering satisfaction of turning a simple idea into something unforgettable.

In this episode, Ade and Tim finally put their plan into action. After a full day at work, they jumped in the car, headed straight for Mount Snowdon, and began their night ascent. What followed was a mix of tired legs, head‑torch‑lit paths, unexpected moments of calm, and the kind of quiet excitement that only comes from doing something slightly unhinged on a weekday evening.
They reached the summit in the dark, pitched the tent in the wind, and settled in for a few hours of cold, restless but unforgettable sleep. As dawn broke, they unzipped the tent to a rising sun spilling across the mountains, fired up the stove, and cooked breakfast and fresh coffee on the highest point in Wales. It was simple, surreal, and exactly the kind of moment that makes a micro adventure worth every step.
With the sun fully up, they packed away the tent, began the long walk back down, and eventually made their way home — tired, muddy, buzzing, and already talking about what they might do next. Throughout the episode, you’ll hear the real recordings from the climb, the summit, the early‑morning brew, and the journey back, capturing the atmosphere of the whole adventure exactly as it happened.
It’s the payoff to the planning, the reality behind the idea, and a reminder that even the wildest midweek plans can turn into something unforgettable.
