Speaker 1: Hey guys, welcome back to more Reddit stories. In this
Ripe Stories podcast episode, we will read some of the
best Reddit stories of all time. If you enjoy my content,
please don't forget to rate the podcast, that would help
me so much. And now let's dive right into the episode.
This story is not about me, but it's actually about
one of my neighbors who is a Vietnam veteran. He
has given me permission to tell this story online, after
I got him interested in these kinds of stories. We
are actually pretty close and since he lives alone, I
always invite him over for holidays if he is alone
or just to watch baseball. Getting back on the topic
of this story, he is disabled and relies on a
service dog for everyday tasks. His service dog is a
beautiful German Shepherd that is just the sweetest girl in
the entire world. As a service dog, she is better
behaved than most humans I've come across and I could
not imagine anybody having an issue with her. That is
except for the HOA president who does not approve of
the dog and thinks she had any say in it.
I did not know how long my neighbor was having
issues with her, but I did manage to catch a
conversation between the two of them. After that, I was
just fully invested to throw myself into the situation to
help my neighbor. HOA president, I've told you before that
this creature needs to leave. Neighbor, I'm allowed to have
my service dog. HOA president, I'm not telling you not
to have one. I'm saying that this thing is not
a dog. It's basically a bear. Look around and you
will see that all the other dog owners have nice
cute small dogs. They don't intimidate anybody and don't lower
property values like your monster. Neighbor, I need a dog
this size. She is mine and does important tasks for me.
Now please move so I can get on with my day.
HOA president, your dog is gonna bite some innocent child
and then we'll see what happens. You need to follow
the rules no matter how old you are and how
disabled you pretend to be. Neighbor, I've told you before,
I'm not a member of your HOA. Even if what
you were saying had any truth to it, it still
wouldn't apply to me. Anyway, President, we'll see what you
think of that once I'm finished with you. She walked
off after this and I was able to go and
make sure that he was okay. He might be on
the older side, but this guy is tough as nails
and was not going to be intimidated by a woman
made of hairspray and acrylic nails. He was going to
just go on with his life because he had the
ADA on his side. Laws that protected him against anybody
trying to discriminate against him and that included taking his
dog away from him. The HOA must have not told
their lawyers the truth or just been crazy because they
actually filed a lawsuit against my neighbor for his dog.
They claimed total lies that he had a violent animal
that went against HOA guidelines. He cannot drive anymore, so
I went with him to court to argue his case
that he didn't do anything wrong. Which to me was
kind of funny that to argue his dog being a
service dog he got to bring her to court with him.
The judge was going to be able to see flat
out how well behaved she was and that she was
a real service animal. It was closed and I had
to wait outside but I got the details of what
happened from my neighbor on the car ride home. The
HOA was trying to claim that he was violating rules
because he was intentionally doing actions that would lower the
value of the neighborhood and the homes in it. They
were also claiming that he was harboring a dangerous creature
that was a threat to all the members of the community.
I couldn't even get past the first part without just
laughing at how crazy this woman was. Thank god I
was not in court or I would have been kicked
out and in trouble for the laughter. When it was
made clear that his dog was a service animal and
having the dog did not devalue the neighborhood and went
against HOA rules, they tried to argue something else. The
HOA wanted him to get a dog from a pre-approved
list and basically swap his service animal for a tiny one.
While some small breeds can be service animals, he needed
help that only a larger animal could help with. Not
to mention it was just against so many laws to
make him get rid of a service animal. The court
did not want to hear anything from the HOA and
told them that they were not going to do anything
against the HOA or force somebody who was not even
a member to follow their rules. A couple of months
later when he was taking a walk the HOA president
was out and got super angry at him basically on sight.
She went insane and decided that attacking was the correct
thing to do. She did not attack my neighbor, oh no,
she went after the helpless dog like she was the
one personally doing anything wrong. No matter how well a
dog is trained when under attack, it's gonna defend itself.
It's the law of nature or fight or flight or something.
To make a long story short, because this is already
getting long, she got bitten by the dog while attacking her.
Suddenly she was the victim and the dog just went
wild and was a vicious horrible creature according to her.
You can probably guess what her plan was but she
made the dumb decision to do this right in front
of a park entrance and they had cameras. Before she
could do anything my neighbor jumped the gun and filed
a lawsuit against the HOA. For discrimination and for hurting
his service animal it turned out that in the attack
their dog got broken ribs and a broken foot. He
wanted a lot of compensation from the HOA and once
the court saw that it was her again they were
not gonna believe her anything. Sure, she tried to claim
that the dog just attacked randomly, but there was clear
video of her going after the dog first and it
basically being self-defense. All of this to try and turn
around the argument of her not being a service dog
because they don't bite no matter what, supposedly. Like they
are trained super soldiers or something. ADA law is a
powerful thing though and the courts have a strong tendency
to side with it. After they finished racking up fines
for her the HOA ended up owing my neighbor $ 225, 000.
Don't ask me the math of how they ended up
on that number but he was granted all of it
and the HOA was now going to be financially hurting
because of that. Thankfully the HOA president did not last
much longer after that whole fiasco either as it was
a bad image for the HOA. I have no idea
where the money went but I do know that he
got a big new TV that we watch all the time.
The next one is an I don't work here lady
hospital story. I work in a hospital also context I
have a baby face and I'm short. On any given
day I can be mistaken for a high school student
playing dress up so I don't really begrudge people for
mistaking me for a volunteer. Unless, of course, you are mean.
It's a weekend and I'm scheduled to work 28 hours.
In my hospital, our staff are pretty distinctive. Nurses wear white,
surgical staff wear blue, and techs and other staff wear black.
I am wearing the baggy surgical scrubs to be as
comfortable as possible while in hell. I'm rushing around trying
to see my patients and stop by to say hi
to a few nurses I recognize. We chat a little
and no one asks me where I'm going. I mention
the patient room. and they give each other looks. Bad sign.
Before looking at me and assuring they would check in,
bad sign number two. I thank them and then I
dip into the patient room. Me, hi patient, visibly irritated,
about time you came in here. I am done with
my food. Me, okay, do you want me to clear
that tray for you? Patient looks at me like a dumbass. Well,
I'm done with it, aren't I? All right then, grumpy guy, whatever,
it happens. I go to move the tray and notice
his wife sitting in a chair by his bed. She
is looking apologetic to me and moves to take the tray,
but I wave her off and settle it to the side. Me. Hi, I'm... Patient.
I need to go to the bathroom. Me. Okay, I
can come back if you would like. Patient again looking
at me like I'm a dumbass. I need to go
to the bathroom. Me. Sir, you're welcome to use the restroom.
I can come back when you're done. This place is ridiculous.
You're not even gonna help me? I'm out of major
surgery and you cannot help me get up and piss?
me pulling out my patient list more for show than
anything else because I have it memorized, this person had
finger surgery in his non-dominant hand. He has one completely
unwrapped hand and his legs work fine. According to my records, sir,
you passed your physical therapy yesterday and you have unlimited
ability to get in and out of bed and move
on your own. However, I can also provide a urinal
for you if you would like. patient yelling, this is ridiculous.
I just had major surgery. I'm in pain. You want
me to just lie in my own piss? You should
be helping me. Hold my cucumber like a good girl
and help me. At this point, I see a few
nurses duck their head in to check on me, but
I wave them off. This dude needs an ego check. Me? Sir,
that's a highly inappropriate request. If you need assistance with
your needs, we will provide it. But we will not
tolerate being verbally harassed. Patient, I'm not effing listening to
some damn nurse telling me what to do. You better
do your job. Patient's wife. She is not a nurse. Patient.
I don't even care what she is. I'm not listening
to your damn BS if you don't help me. I
don't ever want to see you again. Me. Just to confirm, sir,
that you don't want to see me again, right? Patient.
Did I stutter? I say go away, little girl. I
want a new nurse. At this point, his nurse steps
into the room with hospital security. the kind who are
built like NFL linebackers responding to psych issues and have handcuffs. Nurse, Dr. OP,
I called security out of concern for staff safety. Security officer,
are you okay and do you require assistance? Me, no,
but I would like you two to witness for me
that the patient would no longer require our services and
pain management will sign off now per patient insistence. I
will alert his surgery team. Nurse and security officer nods.
Nurse makes a note in her papers. Patient is now
visibly buffering as he's processing. Patient loading probably at 50%. Wait, doctor,
with pain management? Me, yes, I'm the pain management doctor.
Your team wanted me to see you assess your post-operative pain,
but I understand that we are not needed anymore. I'll
let your team know. Patient anger downloaded. You could have
told me. You're leaving? I want a new pain doc.
Me smiling serenely, Sir, it's the weekend. I'm the only
pain management doctor. As the two other witnesses have noted,
you have pired me from your care. Good day. I
go off on my merry way as this guy starts
going ballistic. It's not standard for the pain service to
be asked to see a hand surgery, but I did
it as a favor to the orthopedic surgeon since the
patient is, quoting the surgeon, a little B-I-T-C-H about his
finger pain. I then ask the nurse to let me
know what happens when the patient realized that I am
the only one in the hospital who can write for
high-dose narcotics that he keeps demanding. And the next one
is a malicious compliance story. In my late high school
slash early college years, I had a job doing telemarketing
work during winter and summer breaks. While it was boiler
room cold calling, we primarily were soliciting donations for agencies
that had contracted us to do the work, so it
felt less scoozy. Think police departments, fire departments, etc. We
kept a portion of donations for operating expenses. Everything over
a certain threshold went directly to the receiving party and
everybody wins. I enjoyed the job as the scripts were
simple and I was allowed to read a book and
such between calls and a number of my friends were
also employed there so we could hang out during lunch breaks.
The pay was a decent chunk above minimum wage at
that time so it was a good gig. I also
had a neck for it and at one point was
fifth in sales across all their sites they had an operation,
second in our building. One summer while driving to work
my car promptly dies with no warning and I'm left
stranded on the road. As you do in this situation
back before cell phones for poor college students were a thing,
I walk to the nearest house and ask to use
the phone. I call my dad who starts driving to
get me and call my work to let them know
that I'll be late. My boss says fine and that
he will chat with me when I get in. Father
shows up with my mother in two cars, I take
the extra and he begins the arduous process of towing
my car back to the house. This involved tying a
rope to the front of the car and to the
back of his vehicle and crawling back home so he
could fix it himself. I have been in that back
car and did not envy my father being in the
back car with only 10 feet of space between him
and the car my mom was driving, but I'm off
to work. I arrive to work clock in almost an
hour after the start of my shift and I am
promptly told by the front receptionist, that my boss would
like to see me in his office. So I head
on back. Beginning details completed. Cue the start of the
MC story. My boss and I have always had a
good rapport. I'm a good worker, get good reviews, and
he and I have some similar interests outside of work
we can chat about occasionally. When I arrive in his office,
he is shuffling some papers around and has laid out
a few documents facing me. As close as I can recall,
this is the conversation that followed. Boss, I hope everything
worked out with the car. Glad to have you here.
Couple things I need to discuss with you. So first
of all, as I'm sure you are aware, being more
than 30 minutes late to work is considered a Class
C violation. Three classes from C to A, C being
the least egregious. If insufficient, time is given prior to
the occurrence. This is your first violation, so I would
like to talk to you about what happens next. I'm
sweating at this point. I've never been talked to about
being out of order on anything while working here, and
getting my first violation scared the crap out of me.
So I'm sitting there white-faced and he continues. Boss, no
official write-up or anything occurs for a first violation or
even the first few Class C violations, but it is
manager's discretion on the punishment depending on past behaviors. Now,
you're a good employee and I've put into corporate a
few times to give you a raise, but because you
only work during your school breaks, it's denied as you
are not considered full-time. So the papers I have here
are your termination papers and an offer letter I would
like to extend to you to hire you back on
time again. So in short before I file these I
would like to ask is it okay if I fire you?
So we go through the process of him firing me
which then allowed him to extend an offer to me
to rehire me at roughly a 25% increase in pay
since he could justify to corporate the bump as he
was hiring someone with experience. In talking with him, he
let me know it was something he occasionally did to
the high school and college workers to get around the
corporate policy of not allowing raises to people that did
not work 1,000 plus hours in a year. It was
his own way of being maliciously compliant with a policy
that did not allow him to reward some people that
he thought deserved it. He had been apparently waiting for
me to do something that he could technically fire me for.
The way their back-end systems worked, it would not even
show up as a break in service, since the firing
and hiring happened on the same day, and since I
never worked more than a minimum 1000 hours each year,
I did not have any tenure or anything to be
worried about losing. The laugh he and the receptionist had
when we walked back to the front to introduce her
to the new employee was enjoyable and I've had a
fun story to tell ever since. To answer a few questions,
number one, why do the fire department and police department
need more money? This was more for affiliated agencies and charities.
Think the firefighters boot drive they do every year. They
don't keep your change you toss into the boot. It
goes to a charitable cause. Number two, did your dad
fix the car slash what was wrong with it? I'm
not a car person, so I don't know what was
wrong with it. But yes, my dad was able to
fix it. Number three, do you keep in touch with
the boss? Well, this was close to 20 years ago.
And unfortunately, I don't keep in touch with very many
people from my hometown, including this wonderful man. Last I heard,
he was still working there, 4-5 years after I had left,
and it was still a great place to work. Many
of your comments had me laughing, and I've enjoyed responding
to them throughout the day and into the wee hours
of the morning last night, and they are still coming in.
Thank you all again for this enjoyable experience. And yeah,
ripe stars, I have to say that was a different
outcome than I expected. That was a truly positive malicious
compliance story. I'm not sure I've read many different malicious
compliance stories before that had such an outcome. And the
next Reddit story starts like this. I live in a
small neighborhood in Eastern Europe and I've been here with
my family since I was born. It used to be
a nice quiet place but things have changed about half
a decade ago when the Karens rolled into town. You
know the classic Karens, the ones who think they run
the place just because they are whiter than toothpaste. We've
got about four of these Karens in our neighborhood now,
and it's been a real headache for all of us.
It's like they all showed up at the same time
as if they were telepathically connected to wreak havoc in
our peaceful neighborhood. These Karens did not just saunter into
the town, though. They practically stormed in, waving their self-proclaimed
authority like a flag. First, there was Karen number one.
She came in like a hurricane barking at anyone whose
grass was a smidge too long. As if she had
a PhD in lawn aesthetics. She would even scold you
for the slightest weed daring to grow into your garden.
Then came Karen number two, who would corner you during
your evening stroll and lecture you on how to properly
leash your dog. She even started circulating pamphlets on pet
etiquette in our mailboxes and wrote absolute junk on it,
as if she had taken it directly from Facebook. Karen
number three seemed to have supersonic hearing, able to detect
a pin drop from a mile away. Her shrill voice
became a familiar sound as she complained about the neighborhood
kids playing in the park, Catsmeong for treats and the
leaf blower. Yes, she complained about the leaf blower being
too loud, the same one that she also uses. Talk
about logic. And finally, there's Karen number four, who was
convinced that she was the keeper of our mailboxes and
she would scrutinize your mail, giving us unasked advice of
how we should paint our mailboxes and how our subscriptions
to some of the local supermarkets was not so-called good
organic choices. Karen number one had a child who was
nearly as loud and entitled as she was. You see,
I owned a semi-truck because my job required it, And
ever since the first time I drove it out, her
kid had been absolutely fascinated by it. Now, it would
be cute and it would be wholesome if the kid
did not insist on making a dash for my semi-truck
every time it rolled into the neighborhood. But understanding the
word no was not in his vocabulary, and I could
not entirely blame him for that because it was all
Karen's doing. Every time the kid spotted my semi-truck, he
would shout with joy and then he would make a
beeline for it, ignoring my warnings that it could be dangerous.
It was hard to believe how relentless this little guy
could be. He would scream at the top of his
lungs in a tone that could shatter glass, insisting that
he wanted to ride on my semi-truck. No amount of
telling him no seemed to register. It was a semi-truck,
not a toy that I could simply give him. There
were times when he would throw a full-blown tantrum right
on my driveway, lying on the ground and demanding access
to my semi-truck. I could not help but think that
he believed he could get his way because he would
always smirk when I stepped off the semi-truck only to
then start screaming again when I point my hose at him.
Only then would Karen No. 1 finally come out of
her house, accusing me of assaulting her precious child and
threatening to sue me. She never actually followed through on
that promise, but the kid continued to make occasional appearances,
throwing the same tantrum. One time he even tried to
sneak onto the semi-truck and I had to physically drag
him away. When that happened, Karen No. 1 and I
had a heated argument that ended with a warning from
my side. I told her that if I ever saw
her brat near my semi-truck again, she would be having
police on her doorstep. Other Karens interfered and tried to
make me see how wrong I was, but I simply
ignored them. But I had a feeling that Karen number
one was jealous of my semi-truck and would not stop
at anything to have her brat in it. So before
that could happen... I decided to take matters to the police.
I explained everything to them about the relentless harassment from
Karen No. 1 and her out-of-control child. The police acknowledged
my complaint but admitted that it wasn't a big enough
case to launch a full investigation. However, they promised to
pay a visit to Karen No. 1 and give her
a warning about her actions. One day, a few weeks after,
I drove off to drop my parents at my sister's house.
It was a routine trip, or so I thought. When
I returned home, I was met with a horrifying sight.
My semi-truck had crashed into my own house. I could
not believe my eyes and screamed in disbelief. I saw
my neighbor approaching me and I asked what the hell happened.
He told me that he had heard commotion outside and
he rushed to see what was going on. To his
shock he saw Karen number one behind the wheel of
my semi truck with her little brat hopping around inside.
It was clear that Karen had no clue how to
control the massive vehicle and her child was only making
matters worse with his antics. Before my neighbor could even
think of doing anything he saw how before his own
eyes the Karen crashed my semi-truck into my own house.
I was beyond furious and immediately called the police, giving
them a rundown of the event before asking them to
come over quickly. By the time the police arrived at
the scene, I noticed another car quickly leaving Karen No.
1's house. I pointed to the retreating vehicle, signaling to
the officers that Karen might be attempting to escape. Thankfully,
they acted quickly and caught her before she could run
away from the scene. This resulted in Karen shouting at
the police officers, accusing them of trying to harm her
and her child. She started being dramatic and attempting to
shift the blame away from herself. However, the police were
not easily swayed. They took her into custody and carefully
assessed the entire situation. They questioned my neighbor who provided
a first-hand account of the events leading up to the
crash backing up my story. Moreover, I showed them the
CCTV footage I had managed to retrieve which captured the
entire incident. Even with all the evidence stacked against her,
the Karen was still trying to change the whole narrative
and paint me as the villain who was always trying
to get her arrested because I hated her. However, the
evidence was clear and solid, leaving no room for doubt.
At the police station, Karen was subjected to a thorough interrogation.
After about an hour, she finally admitted to being behind
the wheel of my semi-truck during the crash. However, she
claimed that I had personally given her the keys and
permission to drive my semi-truck, so she was not in
the wrong. So then the police decided to review my
CCTV footage from an hour before the crash. The footage
showed Karen breaking into my home while I was away,
making it absolutely clear that it was not me who
had handed over my keys to her. I was honestly
done with her already and all this just made me
believe that this Karen could literally commit crimes to get
her way so I made the decision to press charges
against her. She had not only broken into my house
but had also caused extensive damage to both my property
and my semi-truck all because she raised her bread wrong
and was too freaking entitled to hear no. Karen attempted
to put up a fight in court and she hired
lawyers to try and flip the case on me. However,
the evidence and also the witnesses were pretty clear and
no amount of shouting or emotional blackmailing helped her. In
the end, the court ruled in my favor and that
Karen was ordered to pay $ 450, 000 in damages for all
the havoc she had wreaked upon my property and belongings.
It was a significant blow to her both financially and reputation-wise.
Because apparently this caused conflicts between her and her army
husband and she eventually got no help from him anymore...
which made her go bankrupt and she ended up in prison. Finally,
one Karen less in the neighborhood. However, ripe stars, if
I remember correctly, four Karens moved into the neighborhood, so
there are three to go. However, let's hope that the
other Karens are not as horrible as this one. And
now let's continue with the next one. This is a
malicious compliance story. For Americans, 50 grams is 1.76 ounces,
200 grams are 7 ounces and 23 kilogram are 50.7 pounds.
So when I travel by plane, which happens about 2
out of 3 times per year, I'm usually quite conscious
about the weight of my luggage because of how much
you have to pay if it exceeds the limit. This time,
I put a bit more stuff in because of gifts,
but I thought I was fine. I pass the police
and get to the check-in, where a woman in her
late 30s slash early 40s reminded me of my old
history teacher, indicated me to proceed. So I give my passport,
do the usual stuff, and I put my luggage on
the scale, which shows 23.05 kilogram, the limit being 23.
I was quite pleased with myself while looking at it
thinking I got it just right but no the woman
tells me that I need to pay 50 euros for
excess baggage. I look at her confused telling her it's
50 grams surely it doesn't matter. She repeats herself and
we start arguing until she says either you pay 50
euros or you somehow make the luggage 50 grams lighter.
I did not have a carry-on so I shouldn't take
anything with me. At that moment I remember the 200
grams of chocolate that are sitting in the luggage and
I start smiling. I open the luggage, take the chocolate
out and start nibbling at it with a grin on
my face while looking at the woman who goes from
Pikachu face to annoyed. She tells me to hurry up
even though I was the only one in line so
I offered her some and she just stared at me.
I ended up eating exactly a quarter of the 200
grams and lo and behold the scales show 23 kilograms.
The woman gives me my ticket while glaring at me
and I tell her to have a good day. And
the next one is a revenge story. So this was
in 2017. I worked at a small 36-room condo hotel
on Marco Island, Florida, and that property was owned by
a small venture capitalist firm ran by two wealthy siblings
and one of their sons. I was brought on board
by a colleague who was hired as the general manager.
Since this was a new slash small operation that had
pretty much zero actual industry knowledge or expertise... It was
basically the GM and myself who were responsible for bringing
in real changes to the property, while also wearing multiple
hats and doing the job of several roles with our
industry experience. There was only one other office employee who
was a curmudgeonly old lady, ironically her name was actually Karen,
who basically just did the billing for unit owners and
sat in the back when she could. I myself was
responsible for not only the day-to-day front desk presence, phone presence,
concierge presence, assigning daily housekeeping duties and running a brief
night audit, but most importantly also managing the business revenue
strategy and competitive set and online room inventory with our
own website and major OTA companies like Expedia, Booking, Trivago, etc.
2017 was a record year for us and my revenue
strategy earned the company several tens of thousands of dollars
more than previous years by comparison. Then crap starts slowly
hitting the fan in quarter two to three. My colleague,
the GM, resigned due to personal issues completely unrelated to
his work performance that brought the office staff down to
two people, which was Karen and I. Well, Karen had
this month-long trip to Italy planned like two years in advance,
so she was going to go regardless. Karen flies out
in the midst of the news that there's a bad
hurricane a few days out from landfall. Cue Hurricane Irma.
For those unaware of hurricane grading, Irma made landfall in
the US as a Category 4 that is staggeringly powerful
for reference Katrina, which devastated New Orleans in 2005, was
also a Category 4. Needless to say, everyone was on
high alert and made plans to evacuate. During my evacuation,
not on the clock or being paid by the company whatsoever,
the firm's accountant called me on my personal phone asking
me to walk her through the steps of how to
remotely run the property management systems audit. With hotel computer systems,
the day does not actually end until you tell the
system that the day is over and that it is
time to run reports and tally up the numbers so
if no one is there to do the audit, the
hotel will permanently be stuck on a previous day. I
spent about two hours on the phone with her while
evacuating from a natural disaster and I was never compensated
for it. Irma ended up making landfall on the island
I worked on and the entire surrounding area lost power
for about a week. We all returned to devastation, some
of our rooms on the top floor having their walls
and roof blown out and slowly trying to pick the
pieces back up. My hours were cut from 40 per
week to about 16 per week as the damage from
the hurricane drove business way down. I was beginning to
struggle financially and I was forced to use all my
PTO and vacation days I had earned up to this
point to keep full paychecks coming in as I was
just some single 24 to 25 year old guy who
lived alone and the company offered absolutely zero roadmap for
getting back to full-time compensation. I sent the CEO, who
I spoke with every week in revenue meetings, an email
explaining the situation and asking for a possible advance to
make ends meet for the time being. The email I
got back was basically one sentence to the effect of, OP,
we will be open again soon, thanks. Bold strategy. Let's
see how that plays out for you, considering I'm the
literal only person running the hotel operations right now. Within
a week, I secured an interview for a better-paying job
closer to home. I crushed the interview and kept it
completely to myself. The CEO's brother, the CFO, had flown
down to be on the property for the first day
of the reopening, where business started to come back to normal.
The day before the reopening, while in the office, I
got a call from HR at the new company confirming
the job offer and to stop by later that day
to finalize everything. I called the CFO and asked him
to come down to the office because I wanted to talk.
The second he got there and he asked what is up.
I told him I was resigning effective immediately. Him, OP,
you realize that will make it hard for us to
open tomorrow, right? Me, nothing personal. Just like your company
has financial concerns that prevent you from keeping your only
employee here to run the hotel. I also have financial
concerns that prevent me from staying here as I have
bills to pay. You will be open again soon, don't worry.
He gritted his teeth and said, okay then. I handed
over my key to the property, got in my car
and never looked back. And the next one is an M.I.D.A.
whole story. I, 35 male, have been married to my wife,
32 female, for seven years. We have two children together,
six male and three female. She takes care of the house,
babysits the kids most of the time, because she is
a stay-at-home mom, but we evenly split the chores and
childcare on weekends, and when I get home from work,
My wife is much more social than I am, we
moved to her home state from mine because she wanted
to be closer to her parents and her childhood friends.
Now she is a lot more social than I am,
and she goes on 3-4 girl trips a year. I
have no issues with that and I'm happy to babysit
the kids full time in her absence. I'm more of
a homebody anyway, so I usually like to just paint
in the spare room or play video games every once
in a while instead of traveling out of state. I
don't really take time off work also unless we do
something as a family. For the past three to four months,
I was very busy on a major project at work.
I've been working 60-hour weeks and frankly, I'm exhausted with
the stress. So when the project was finally coming to
an end, I told my wife that I'm taking a
day off and I won't be doing any work around
the house. Of course, I would still clean up after myself,
but I did not want to do any chores or
childcare on that one day. I told her that two
weeks in advance and she agreed. I also reminded her
three days before. However, when that day came, my wife
forgot about our agreement. I was in the painting room
and my wife interrupted me, telling me that she needed
me to give our daughter a bath because she spilled
milk all over herself and couldn't do it. because she
had to wash the dishes. It was annoying but whatever.
Crap happens. Later on when I was playing video games
my wife tells me our son needs help for his
math homework. I ask her why she cannot help him
herself and she said it's because she has some work
to do. This work was actually her best friend coming
over and chatting for an hour. This really pissed me
off so after I helped my son and the best
friend left I told my wife that I'm leaving the
house for 4-5 hours. She asked me where I was going.
I told her I'm just gonna chill in the park
and do whatever. But then she said she needs me
to help out with the chores and with the kids.
I told her that today was my day off from
all work, including housework, and it's her job to babysit
the kids on this day before I left the house.
When I came back, she was acting cold and called
me an a-hole for just abandoning her and the kids.
I think she's being dramatic, but when I spoke to
my sister, she said parenting is a 24-7 job. so
reddit am i the a-hole and here ripe stars let
me know in the comments what you think about this
do you think op is being the a-hole here or
not comment number one i'm gonna be downvoted to hell
but you all need to hear this no one can
be a parent 24 7 it's just not possible you
do need breaks from time to time you are only
human you will break before your children do trust me
This community has unrealistic expectations for parents. He just wanted
a day to himself. That's all. He's not evil. He's
not lazy. He is not a deadbeat dad. He is
just tired. Now, my judgment depends on if you give
your wife a day to unwind herself, too. She also
needs days off from being a parent from time to time.
If you don't let her, then you are the a-hole.
And by the way, ripe stars, I think that OP
mentioned in the beginning that the wife frequently, or at
least a couple of times per year... goes on these
girl traps and surely OP takes care of the kids
when that happens. So clearly OP is giving the wife
this time to unwind herself that this person talked about. However,
it seems like that the wife is not giving the
same time to her husband. It almost feels like she
expects him to work 24-7 and not have any downtime. Anyway,
comment number two, this subreddit loves to crap on husbands
who work themselves to the ground and still are expected
to do equal share of chores at home when their
wives are stay-at-home moms. Not the a-hole, this is absolutely
unfair to you. Enough of this BS, honestly. If he
works 60 hours per week, he needs some rest so
he can go back to the grind and the least
she can do is not expect him to do 50-50
when he is around. Even worse, he is happy to
do it but needed one day once in a blue moon.
One effing day. Screw me, where's the equality? Comment number three,
not the a-hole. I've had similar experiences other than the
term babysitting, which I assume due to language differences. You
communicated it clearly and she didn't respect it. If I
say to my wife, hey, are you cool if Saturday
I just game all day and you watch the kids?
And she says yes, I assume she's gonna make arrangements
to keep the kids occupied, which is not difficult. Also,
we are both gamers when Hogwarts Legacy came out. She
asked if she could have a weekend just to play it.
I took the four kids to the park both days.
And yeah, RipeStarsOP definitely needs to communicate this with his
wife because I also feel like that this is not
exactly a fair situation. And the next Reddit story starts
like this. So I work for a pretty decent restaurant.
It's no five Michelin star restaurant, but it's enough to
be considered a pretty classy place. It's one of those
classy places with a maitre d' that potters about the
restaurant to ensure the customer is getting the best service possible.
I myself was a simple waiter, though I had been
working at the restaurant for a year or so while
I worked towards various hospitality qualifications. My dream was to
own a world-class hotel. I know, why would I be
working in a restaurant then, but when you work hospitality
with that goal in mind, you have to have some
passing knowledge of a lot of areas umbrellaed under the
hospitality profession. So far, I had worked at a fairground
theme park, an older people's home, and now a restaurant.
It sounds a lot, but most of these places I
only worked for a season or two and then moved
on to gain experience elsewhere. With my studies coming to
a head I was looking at jobs more geared towards
the sort of thing I was looking for and in
this case I was a waiter in a top restaurant.
The Karen in question was the manager and she had
a huge problem with me from the get go. I
don't think she liked me because I was not in
it for the long haul as she would put it.
Karen expected people to be 100% committed to the job.
She hates seasonal workers and college students who are only
looking to earn a weekly income to help pay their
way through college. We have a lot of them, and
our general turnaround is quite high because of this. Normally
wait staff will last a year or two and I
was no different so she hated me. So anyways, the
owner of the restaurant wanted to push us onto the
next star so he spent a lot of time talking
about the restaurant and the kitchen, trying to figure out
where the best places were for improvement. He thought the
best way to do this was to work different jobs
and see how things were done directly rather than rely
on the feedback of managers and stuff. I don't know why,
I just guess he was a very hands-on person, which
is strange because I had rarely ever seen him about
the restaurant. It might have been for this reason that
the owner decided to work. It was all good fun.
When we got briefed the owner was doing this, it
was a very tense time and people were panicking and
getting stressed making sure everything was perfectly presented and stuff.
So we were run off our feet almost constantly and
we were working pretty long shifts to get everything ready.
Now I know what you're thinking. If the owner was
this active before they started to work the restaurant, then
why did not Karen know? Well, Karen has the habit
of saving up all her holiday so that she can
spend nearly a full month away sunning herself in the
Maldives or something. She was not stupid about it though.
She would always go during the off-peak season, which was
normally over the months leading up to Christmas. My guess
was always because people did not have money left as
it was all spent on the festive season. The owner
also thought this was the best time to do his study,
as it would be the least busy and the least
bit disruptive. The weeks go by and the owner working
the restaurant was actually a lot of fun. He was
a very down-to-earth person and absolutely loved talking to all
the customers and ensured everyone was enjoying their time, including
all the staff. Looking back on it now, I think
it was one of the most fun times I ever
had at work. The owner even went as far as
to do a shift or two in each of the
positions from dishwashing, watering, chopping vegetables and taking out the rubbish.
He was really hands-on and loved everything he was doing.
At least it seemed that way. He might have just
been a really cheery person even when angry and upset. Well,
by the time Karen returned to work, the owner was
playing the role of Maître D so that he could
potter about the restaurant and interact with all the customers
to find out what they thought of the place and
get general feedback. Karen however did not like this one bit.
When her shift started she was giving huge amounts of
evil looks to the owner like she does with all
new staff members she has never seen before and she
did not let up on the hazing all night seeing
how far she could push the new member of staff.
The owner being the person he was played along for
a little bit all in a bit to understand how
the restaurant operated and things started to feel a lot
like that show Undercover Boss. The rest of the members
of the staff were all laughing and whispering behind Karen's
back placing bets on when they thought Karen was going
to realize she was being a bit of a dick
to the owner of the restaurant. Karen found out in
the worst possible way, however, and all the fun and
games stopped abruptly. The owner, not wishing to play Karen's
games anymore, went back to playing the Metro D and
was basically talking and having a laugh with a lot
of the customers through the course of the night. Karen
was not happy and tried to get the owner to
do the dishes in the kitchen. There was also some
backhanded comment about the way Karen was addressing the owner.
You would have thought that by then the Karen might
realize that something was up, but nope, I was set
in the staff room taking my break, there was about
an hour or so left of the evening, when the
owner came in to also have a quick five minute break.
Karen burst into the room right after, guns blazing, taking
no prisoners. She ranted on at the owner calling him
a good-for-nothing self-entitled slacker and that he was fired as
soon as his shift was over. The owner took it
in his stride, bless him, let Karen rant and rave
and when she was finally done, the owner, cool as
a cucumber, said, Are you done? I think you're done.
I don't want you working here anymore. Oh my god.
Karen's face went bright and she swelled up with such
a rage I thought she was gonna burst. And burst
she did. There was a horrendous crack of noise as
Karen slapped the owner around the face. It was so bad,
even I could feel it. The owner looks at me
and says completely deadpan OP call the police for me.
In the interim, the owner and Karen continued to argue
for something like an hour, almost when the police finally
showed up. If they hadn't shown up when they did,
I felt sure Karen was gonna reach for the kitchen
knives or something. It was not a fun time listening
to those two and being caught in the middle of it.
In the end, the police had to drag Karen from
the premises. I wish I could say that was the
end of it, that Karen got fired and the restaurant
went back to business as usual or something, but what
followed was a month or so of inquests and inquiries
as the owner, was not one to take a slap
to the face lying down, apparently. Being the only witness
to the happenings in the break room, I was called
up in court to give evidence a few times and
I must admit I was really scared. In the end,
Karen had to pay the owner a hefty fine. The
owner also get a restraining order on Karen, which meant
she pretty much could not set foot on the road
the restaurant was on, It was about 50 meters of shops,
a hairdresser and a pizza place, and Karen got her
mugshot put up in the staff room, and in big
bold letters was a note that said, If you see
this woman on the premises, you have my permission to
slap her. And it was signed with the owner's name.
And yeah, Ripe Stars, if you ever worked at a
job where the manager was an absolute Karen, please let
us know about it in the comments. I would love
to hear. The next one is titled Take Care of
My Kid. So background, I'm a mom, I have a
70-year-old boy, and I just went back to school last month.
Right now, I need to study a lot, and I
deal with a lot of guilt about not having as
much time with my son anymore. So, to kill two
birds with one stone, I took my son to Science
World this past weekend and brought my books to study
while my son was exploring independently. After we spent two
hours on exhibits together, my son was settled in on
a sensory activity where he ended up playing for about
an hour. This was exactly what I was hoping for,
so I took a seat with an eyeshot and pulled
out my laptop and textbook and I started cramming. I
was doing well in getting through the content when this
strange little spawn started scaling my leg and decided my
laptop was perfect to play with. Big hell no from me.
Number one, brand new laptop that cost half my monthly rent.
Number two, strange germ factory on my lap during the
tail end of a pandemic. Number three, not my kid,
not my damn job. Unfortunately, his mom was the kind
that has no clue about social expectations and acted like
her convenience trumps all. So when I asked her to
remove the kid who was close enough to climb up
into my uterus, she said, oh, it's okay. Yep, it's okay. See,
I'm going to school for healthcare. And the content that
I was studying was just a thing boys giggle about.
So this three or four year old boy got a
lesson on the lower digestive tract. He learned about the
Bristol stool chart and a whole lot of terminology, which
I made sure he knew before our goodbyes. About 15
minutes pass and I told him to go tell mommy
what he learned. Now, anyone who knows kids knows that
at this age, they have no volume control and are
completely without shame. And they love fart talk. So what
did this sweet boy effing scream at his mom in
this full-to-capacity quiet zone? Mom, I learned about poop and anuses.
Did you know an anus is a muscle that you
have an anus too? I'm quite certain they both learned
something from that. And yeah, ripe stars, I would say
that was textbook malicious petty revenge. Anyway, the next one
is titled, He Thought I Cannot Do My Job. Back
in 2006, I worked for one of those big box
stores that had an IT desk formerly known as Nerd Herd.
where people could bring devices in to get serviced if
there was a problem. We were located in Columbus, GA,
which is right over a bridge from Phoenix City, AL.
That's important because where our store was placed, we would
normally get a lot of servicemen and women coming up
from Fort Benning, who were generally pretty cool. But we
would also get folks mostly from Alabama, who were, let's
just say, slightly unfavorable to folks of a certain skin
color or gender. No offense to those who live in Alabama,
who are totally awesome, you know who you are. Anyway,
I'm a 5'1 girl who at the time weighed a
total of 120 pounds soaking wet. I was practically a hobbit.
I was also one of the lead technicians in their department.
I was the one the new hires went to if
they were confused or couldn't troubleshoot certain problems. The team
I worked with was amazing, the general manager of the
store was great and the supervisor of my department was
the man. I would regularly go out for drinks with
these people, one of the best places I've ever worked
even though it was retail. Well, then one day I'm
working the counter to check customers in and do evaluations
and diagnostics to give an estimate of what the repair
price would be. In comes, let's call him Joe. He
wore a cut-off t-shirt, worn denim jeans and a baseball
cap with a confederate flag on it that just barely
covered his business in the front, party in the back haircut.
I'm not one to judge on looks. I've had plenty
of people come in looking exactly the same way this
guy did, who have been an absolute delight to work with.
Never judge a book by its cover kits. But I
still have my defenses up just in case. I really
hoped it wasn't going to go the not-so-friendly route. I
was unfortunately wrong about Dear Joe. Joe walks up to
the counter with his PC tower and practically slams the
unit on the desk. Joe. I need this fixed. It's broken. Me. Okay, sir.
Let me have a look and I'll see if I can...
Joe cuts me off and stares at me with a
disgusted look on his face. Joe. Excuse me? Me. If
you give me a moment, sir, I'll be able to
take a look at your computer and... Joe. Ah, hell no.
It was at this point that I realized where this
was inevitably going to go wrong. Me. Unfortunately, sir, I
won't be able to give you an estimate if you
don't let me diagnose your computer. Joe, there's no way
in hell a woman knows about computers. I'm not letting
you touch my computer. Get me the manager. Oh yes,
I thought. This is going to be awesome. I'm sure
he wanted to talk to the general manager of the store,
but I could not resist. Cue the malicious compliance. I
could have pulled the I'm the manager thing because I
was one of the senior staff, but my direct boss
was actually out back working on repair projects and I
couldn't help but get excited about how this was going
to go down. me as lovely as sweet tea of
course sir right away sir mike my supervisor the guy
who ran our department and not the general manager of
the store was elbow deep in a motherboard replacement and
when i walked in i gave him the biggest crap
eating grin me hey mike there's a guy out there
asking for the manager he looks at me confused because
he was just a supervisor but I then proceeded to
tell him exactly what was waiting for him out front.
His face split into the brightest smile, and he then
proceeded to walk out to the front. Have I mentioned
that Mike is a 6'3, 280 pounds black man who
looked like he could eat a Mack truck for lunch?
He was such a big lovable teddy bear. We all
adored him, and the moment Mike stepped out, the customer
freaked out. Mike, hello sir, I hear there's a problem.
Joe lost it. It started with a F no before
devolving into a racist tirade that I have never witnessed
before in my life. I'm from Massachusetts, so this was
awful yet amazing to watch, like a car crash. I
just couldn't look away. Not that we have no racism
in the Northeast, but damn, Joe kept screaming using the
nastiest slur, you know the one, over and over again
while staff and customers alike watched in blatant horror. Security
ended up having to come over to try to calm
the man down. Our entire security team was black as well,
so naturally, Joe even went more crazy. Eventually, the police
had to be called because the man was threatening me,
calling me a C-U-N-T and a B-I-T-C-H and threatening security
and my boss, using that word that is not okay.
My general manager got called out of his office and
immediately called the police to have the man removed. God
bless whichever dispatcher who received the call was because they
dispatched two black officers to the scene. Me and my
general manager were literally the only white people involved in
this train wreck aside from bigoted Joe and I watched
with unbridled glee as Joe was handcuffed and taken away
by the police. Watching Joe foam at the mouth as
he was dragged away made my whole week. Thank you
for the entertainment, bigoted Joe. And yeah, ripe stars, while
I gotta say it is definitely entertaining to see racists
getting what they deserve, I wish situations like these would
not happen anymore in 2023. But I suppose as long
as humanity exists, racism to some capability probably exists as well.
As sad as it is. Some people are just stuck
in this stupid mindset. Anyway, the next one is an M.I.D.A.
whole story. I work in a place where we are
not allowed to have personal electronics on us at all.
No phones, no smartwatches, no pagers. I've been working here
for about six months, so my wife knows this and
understands that she shouldn't try to contact me by my
cell at work. Phones are dropped off in our lockers
and I typically have mine on don't disturb. Before this
incident my phone has never gone off in the locker before.
Recently there was a pretty big fire at a secondary
work site that I do work at occasionally but that
day I was working at the main building. Local news
covered the fire before I found out about it because
again no electronics plus the work we do isolates us
a bit so news travels pretty slowly. There were a
few casualties, a lot of seriously injured folk. My wife
had been watching the news from home and started freaking out,
I guess. She called me 20 freaking times, which, and
I didn't know this was possible, overrode my D &
D and my phone was ringing for a while in
my locker. In the middle of my shift, I got
called into my manager's office and was chewed out and
written up for my phone making too much noise. They
told me to go take care of whatever it was
making my phone go off before I went back to work.
I won't lie, when I saw those 20 missed calls
from my wife, I was seriously pissed off. Like I said,
she knows not to try to contact me directly, and
a citation hurt my chances of getting a raise or promotion.
I called her back and she was sobbing and asking
me if I was okay. I said of course I
was okay and asked what the F was wrong with
her to call me so many times. She was still
crying and started talking about the fire. After that, I
started half yelling at her about all the reasons it
was dumb of her to call me. When I got home,
she was super upset with me. I apologized for yelling,
but she refused to talk. She's been very chilly the
past few days and sleeping in our daughter's room. I
know it was not the best decision to yell at her,
but I still think my anger is justified. Number one,
she knows I don't work in the secondary worksite very often.
And number two, she knows that I cannot be contacted
directly and she could have just called the office. Number three,
20 calls is absolutely insane. Am I the a-hole here?
And yeah, ripe stars, let us know what you think
about this in the comments. Do you think OP is
being the a-hole here or not? Also, just have your
phone on silent and then it won't matter how many
times people call or text you. And you're upset that
she was checks notes concerned about you? Do you not
understand human emotions? She was panicking. She wasn't thinking about
your possible promotion. She was thinking that you could be
seriously hurt or even dead. All she wanted to do
in that moment was hear your voice and hear it
tell her that you're okay and that you love her
and you will be safe. But instead, when she finally does,
she hears it berate her and call her dumb. That
being said, your employees are the biggest a-holes going, your
place of work is on fire and they don't say, hey,
go let your loved ones know that you're okay. Who
wants to work for such psychopaths? And the next Reddit
story starts like this. I work as a paramedic and
I learned early on that if I was going to
be able to deal with the stress of the job,
I needed a hobby. I saved up to buy a
vintage car that was in bad shape and spent every
moment I had working to restore it to former glory.
Once I finished said car, I managed to actually sell
it for a profit, even though that was never the plan.
From that moment, I became obsessed with restoring old cars
and then selling them. Most of the money I made
just went into getting even cooler cars for restoration. Years
went by like this and the only issue I ever
had was my neighbor. Now, this woman was a nightmare
and you could tell that from a mile away. With
all the perfume she wore, you could also smell her
a mile away. She was a Karen if I ever
saw one and I think that name is appropriate for
this story. Now, Karen complained about every single thing, but
the second there was a complaint about her, she would
get defensive. With me, her thing was complaining about my hobby,
and I had a conversation like this one many times
before things escalated to a breaking point. Karen... What is
it with all of that damn noise? I told you
a million times that if you're going to work on
those disgusting things to do it quietly. Me, there's no
quiet way to do restoration work. Plus, I don't actually
have to listen to a word you say, especially over
my tools. Well, the city will care when I get
them to kick you out for violating city ordinances. Me,
I don't work on them at night or early mornings.
I don't even do them on Sunday as a courtesy
to the neighborhood. If you want to mess with me,
I can make this thing a whole lot louder. Karen,
you're a disgrace to the entire neighborhood. You have zero
class or dignity for yourself or anybody around you. Me,
unlike you? With a different guy sneaking out every morning
when your son is at his dad's place? They seem
to be kind of old too. Would hate for it
to get around that you might be a gold digger
with no class or dignity. I put my headphones back
on and turned on my tools to get to work.
I get excited about a lot of restorations, but for this,
I was restoring a beautiful 1977 Chevrolet C30. The truck
was actually in okay condition compared to other things I
have restored. The base frame and everything was in great shape,
it was just everything else that was a mess. I
got it on a pretty good deal too for only $ 3, 000. Now,
I don't blame Karen for not knowing jack about cars.
Some people have no interest in them and just see
old cars as worthless. Her complaining I could handle, since
I had enough to throw it back in her face
when she wanted to start things with me. Instead, she
did something incredibly dumb and managed to get her 16-year-old
kid involved, which made it that much worse. Once the
truck was finished, I was posting pictures online to see
what kind of bits I could get on it. I
never expected to hear the engine starting up in the
two minutes I went into the house. I ran out
and saw that Karen was sitting in my truck with
her son at the wheel. I guess he was trying
to drive it, but clearly had no idea how to
work a stick shift. Again, I don't blame him for
not knowing, and his mother yelling at him to drive
from the passenger seat would not help anything either. I
went right up to them and started yelling at Karen,
asking her what the F she was thinking getting into
that truck. Her response was actually hilarious to me, looking back,
not so much in the moment. She claimed that her
son needed to learn to drive a stick shift and
an old crappy truck was the perfect thing to practice in.
Not a care in the world that she didn't have permission.
By this point, the son had gotten out of the
truck and Karen moved into the driver's seat. He was
apologizing to me and I could see that he was upset.
He was told that they had permission and he did
not even want to learn to drive the truck. I
don't blame kids for things that are the fault of
the parents even if they are 16. So then I
told Karen to get the hell out of my truck
or I was gonna call the police. I was furious
that she would plan to do something like this and
not care if the truck got ruined in the process.
She didn't move so I got on the phone to
call the police. She did not even wait for me
to be off the phone before she managed to get
the truck moving forward and turning it right at me.
I had to dive out of the way and I'll
admit that I screamed like a little girl. The police
were still on the phone and had no idea what
was happening. I told them that she just tried to
run me over with the truck but she was not
even close to being done yet. She turned the truck
around again and went forward right through my living room window.
I was just screaming even when the police arrived. They
had to calm me down and separate me from Karen
because they knew I was just about ready to kill her.
The truck was ruined and my house now had a
huge hole in it. They were arresting Karen since she
was still in the truck and asking the son questions.
He told the truth about what happened and was still
apologizing for being in the truck to begin with. I
was asked if I wanted to press charges against her
and you can bet that I did. I wanted money
back for the truck value, the house repairs and that
was just the start of it. She was being charged
with attempted murder from trying to hit me with the truck.
I don't know if it was her idea or her
lawyer's but she spent the entire court case trying to
play the victim. Like she was just a poor single
mom trying to give her son everything and I was
this evil man who had everything in his life already.
It did not matter really who came up with the
idea because the result was not good. She was found
guilty and sent to jail. Not to mention that she
was forced to pay me the cost of the truck
since it was now totaled and their home repairs as well.
I guess somebody should have warned her that once restored,
that truck was worth around $ 25, 000. As for the kid,
I honestly don't know what happened to him since it
was not my business. My best guess is that his
dad got custody and he did not need to deal
with his mom anymore. In my mind, I did him
a favor by making sure that he wouldn't get roped
into any more of her stupid schemes. You can also
be sure that any leftover money I had went into
buying a new vintage car so I could start the
restoration process all over again. And yeah, ripe stars, I
gotta say, restoring old cars, or probably rather motorcycles in
my case, is really an awesome hobby. If I ever
have a lot of free time in the future, that
is certainly one of the hobbies that I will start.
The next one is titled, Don't be rude to your servers.
A while ago, I was working for a popular restaurant chain.
I was a bartender there, but frequently picked up serving shifts. Often,
I was responsible for training our new employees, and honestly,
I preferred training them so they knew how to do
their job properly. As such, I pretty much was responsible
for training the majority of our new hires, And because
I spent their first few weeks at their site, I
felt responsible for them. Anyway, one particular server that I
had was this sweet boy who was great with customers
and would literally bend over backwards to please someone. I
don't know if I've met anyone who cared about others
like this guy since. As such, I felt particularly protective
over this boy. One particular shift, I was bartending and
he was serving a larger party that had been set
near my bar. I could overhear everything that was happening
while he was serving them. The lady who I assumed
was the head of the party would not give this
kid a break and was constantly talking over him, asking
for things that we never had on the menu. Of
course claiming that she had it last time. Giving him
attitude for these non-existent items basic entitled customer nonsense. I
could see this server was visibly becoming flustered with the table,
but unfortunately in food that's what you have to learn
to deal with. The turning point for me was when
she snapped at the server over a birthday song. Our
establishment does not sing happy birthday to tables, however, we
do offer a free sundae. The server explained this, but
she was not having it. He even very politely offered
to sing, but warned her it would only be him singing,
as the other servers wouldn't likely join in. She was
incredibly rude to him about this, and I was behind
the bar fuming. As he finally goes to ring in
their entree order, she rudely asks him for another mojito,
saying that I hadn't made it properly. Another thing to
note is that our location is next to a hockey stadium,
so based on whether we have a game or not,
we will prepare drinks in different glasses. I had not
been thinking and had made the drink in the wrong glass,
so of course I was fine remaking it in the
proper glass. She might have been a bee, but I
did use the wrong glass for a non-game day. Apparently
she thought she deserved more alcohol since I made a mistake.
She sent the drink back and ordered my server to
tell me to give her more liquor. One thing you
never tell a bartender, make my drink stronger. So of
course I remade her drink with zero alcohol except for
two drops of rum down her sip's straw. She certainly
enjoyed her stronger drink and even ordered two more. I
hope you enjoyed paying almost 30 bucks for three drinks
with maybe a quarter ounce of liquor all together. Do
not mess with my servers or insult my drinks. And also,
just in general, keep in mind, don't be a douchebag
to others and things like this won't happen to you.
Props to OP for handling the situation the way he did. Anyway,
the next one is titled Don't Steal Parking Spaces. I
work in a place with a deeded garage parking, had
one sweet old lady, I will call her Granny, who
owned a Mini Cooper. Another couple who rented a unit
didn't have a parking spot and took to planting their
economy car in her spot. When Granny complained, the renters
would just say they were entitled because there were so
many empty parking places that Granny could park somewhere else.
By the way, what the heck do they not get
about deeded parking? Anyway, this continued until the day the
sweet old lady decided to be not so sweet. Pulled
her car in front of the two renters' cars and
parked bumper to bumper. She put a note on their
car saying, parking in this space is $ 150 a day,
please leave a check with the concierge. So the two
renters showed up at my desk complaining about their car
being blocked off and actually expected me to tow Granny's
car off. I had to re-explain that deeded parking meant
that I could not tow a car from Granny's spot
anymore Then I could rearrange furniture in her apartment. It
is her land. She owns it. You abandoned your car
on her property. Just talk to granny. So after 20
minutes or so of the renters complaining, I called granny
even though it was early in the morning. She came
down to the desk in her house coat and slippers
with her dog in tow. They begged her to move
her car. Granny told them it would be 150 bucks.
Leave the check with the concierge. They kept complaining. And
then she told them it would be an extra 50
bucks for waking her up in the morning. because they
claimed an emergency. Then they asked her how long before
she left the garage. Granny told them... Dearies, I'm retired.
I will leave my spot when I'm ready. And the
price just went up to 150 a day, plus 50
for waking me. And that will be in cash. Leave
the envelope with the concierge. I'm walking my dog and
I will move my car when I have your rental
fee in hand. Not only did the renters not park
in her spot anymore, but word got around and I
didn't have to deal with that issue for another two years.
And yeah, ripe stars, we all know, never mess with
a grandma. These entitled idiots got exactly what they deserved. Anyway,
the next one is a wedding drama story. Posted with
permission from user Nachtjäger68. Part 1. The wedding we wanted
and had. My lady wife is the anti-Karen, the anti-Brightzilla.
On our first date, she fanned out a stack of
restaurant coupons and said, where do you want to take me?
We picked Pizza Hut. Her engagement ring is a heart-shaped
amethyst with two little diamond chips. I bought it at Kmart.
She cherishes it. Her wedding dress didn't come from a
bridal shop. It came from the Sears catalog. It's a
very simple white lace straight T-length dress with a cream underdress.
Would not be out of place at an afternoon tea.
I bought my three-piece navy pinstripe suit since I needed
a suit anyway, and we wore the same clothes with
different accessories to a costume party as a 1920s gangster
and his mall. We had the wedding at our church.
Our pastor was the real deal. He blessed the rings
and when we handed them back, they were ice cold.
We exchanged the old wedding vows, think King's James Bible style.
My lady wife nixed the obey though. A couple of
my buddies found out the last minute that they could
make it and showed up. So after we said our vows,
they pulled out words and made an impromptu arch for
us to walk under. My wife's friends were upset and
started yelling, Nobody told us to bring our swords! Yeah,
major sci-fi fantasy D & D medieval geeks on both
sides of the aisle. The reception was in the community
room at the volunteer fire department I belonged to. Nothing fancy,
but so informal and chill and practically free. A local
supermarket with an awesome hot food bar catered. Everybody had
so much fun. My boss's boss, a good friend, gorgeous blonde,
showed up in her little black dress and appropriately flirted
with my buddies. I don't think anybody will forget the
pillow mint fight that broke out. A few of my
wife's older relatives seemed sort of confused at the antics
at first, but ended up having a blast. My father-in-law
had set a rough budget for the wedding in his head.
My lady wife came in way under that, so he
gave us the difference in cash at the reception. He
was already paying for the honeymoon as his wedding present
to us. Honeymoon was within a day's drive and was
a huge deal for what we got. My lady wife
remembers the complete total spent by us and father-in-law as
around $ 2, 000 in 1992, which included the honeymoon. So under 4,500
bucks today. 32 years together, 31 years married this October.
Next anniversary, I'm going to take a page from my
granddad and raise a toast to five years of wedded bliss.
Part number two, the attempted hijacking. So when my lady
wife announced our engagement, one of her co-workers, not even
a friend, apparently got wedding rabies. She was so happy
and went over the top offering to help. my lady
wife was doing the tiny amount of wedding planning that
was needed see above as her moh lived in new
jersey we are in upstate new york and had two
kids to look after co-workers insisted that it was not
fair to my wife that the moh was not doing
the wedding planning and by the way ripe stars please
correct me if i'm wrong but i think moh is
the abbreviation for mate of honor Anyway, she kept trying
to insert herself as the wedding planner. Nice of her
to offer. But she wanted to arrange our wedding the
way she wanted it. Whiskey, tango, foxtrot? No, we didn't
want frou-frou centerpiece thingies or any of that nonsense. Coworker,
not knowing my wife well, of course had zero clue
what our tastes are. my wife's maid of honor was
already making custom silk flowers for us and the tables
as a wedding present. I think the co-worker was delusional
enough to think she could weasel her way into being MOH.
My wife kept politely but firmly shutting her down. The
last straw was when the co-worker called me to tell
me about the surprise bridal shower she was throwing for
my wife so I could get her there. Oh hell no!
First my wife was already going to have a bridal shower,
At our house, father-in-law and I went down to the
fire hall and watched baseball. Second, my wife hates surprise parties.
Number three, my wife would never have picked that restaurant.
An overpriced steakhouse is the absolute last restaurant we would
ever pick. Fourth, who the heck was co-worker planning on inviting?
She did not know any of my wife's friends. So
my wife shut that down hard. She immediately called co-worker
and told her off. No meltdown, no yelling, no screaming,
no bad language or insults, just pure anger as hot
and bright as a welder's torch. Tears from coworker. Boo hoo,
I was just trying to help! Nope. Denied. We joke
that you need to keep my lady wife away from
breakable objects when she's angry, Cities, mountain ranges, that kind
of fragile stuff. Drama over and the wedding happened. And
the next one is an M.I.D.A. whole story. My wife
and I recently found out we are having a daughter.
We had not really talked about names before, but we
both agreed that each of us will retain veto power.
When we did start discussing names, both of us wanted
to name her after our late mothers. Her mom's name
was Karen and my mom's name was not a meme.
I told her the baby can take my mom's name
as her first name and her mother's name as a
middle name or have an entirely different name. But I
cannot okay Karen as a first name in any case.
She got offended because she just wants to honor her
mother and thinks I have a problem with that. I
just don't want to set up our daughter to be
bullied throughout her life. I told her I would be
fine with whatever first name she picks as long as
it doesn't lead to the baby. being picked on later
in life, but she is pretty insistent on Karen. And yeah,
ripe stars, let me know what you think about this
in the comments. I mean, to be honest, I'm not
exactly sure if OP's wife is familiar with the whole
Karen meme. If we assume she isn't and we just
look at this from an outsider's lens that is not
familiar with the internet at all, then it seems very
insensitive from OP. But then again, if we look at
it from OP's perspective, he's not trying to insult his
wife or her mom's legacy or whatever. He's just worried
about the kid getting bullied later, which is probably a
high chance of that happening. Since number one, we all
know kids can be incredibly cruel, especially in school. And
right now, the Karen meme is just really hot on
the internet. So, suffice to say, sadly, I would probably
also not name my kid Karen, even though I actually
really like the name. It's a cool name. Anyway, comment
number one, not the a-hole, it was a normal name,
now it is a joke. Imagine baby Karen. People are
gonna make jokes all her life. Comment number two, I
personally feel like the Karen thing will die off one day.
and our children's generation will likely not know anything about it. However,
I can see where you still would be adamant about
not wanting to name her that. There's a bit of
a stigma around that name today. I think you guys
should take a different route in name picking and just
steer clear of tribute naming. Good luck, NTA. Update to
the story, wow, I didn't expect this to blow up.
I thought I would delete this since the issue is
pretty much resolved now, but you guys are clearly enjoying it,
so I thought I would provide an update. Basically, we
had a talk about this and why she had such
an emotional reaction to my veto, Ever since her mom
died suddenly when she was only 14, she wanted to
name her first daughter after her, and she did not
really ever consider that the meme might be a potential obstacle.
By that point, I had thought about it for a
while and realized that, as many of the comments have
pointed out, Karen likely won't be a meme by the
time she is old enough to feel its impact. So
I told her I will recant my veto but we
should still reconsider it because it still has potential complications
and we might just come up with a better tribute.
While exchanging ideas we realized that both our mothers, very coincidentally,
had the exact same middle name, Elizabeth. Well, mine had
two middle names and Elizabeth was one of them, but still.
It seemed completely perfect to both of us, so we
are going with it. Thanks for all your input. And
the next Reddit story starts like this. I, female 28,
live with my boyfriend, male 31, in a pretty... average neighborhood.
We get along with most of the neighbors, but there
is one woman that seems to have constant issues with
us over nothing. I'm gonna call her Karen, and while
my guess is that she's in her 50s, she is
the type to slather herself with makeup in an attempt
to make herself look younger. Sadly, for everybody that has
to look at her, it does not work. Now, Karen
is not our neighbor. In fact, she doesn't even live
on our block. She lives two blocks away from us,
and it took us a while to figure that out.
We had no idea where she was coming from, because
we knew everybody on our block, and none of them
were her. It was only when we were walking our
dog one day that we saw her leave the house
and we figured out how she didn't even live near us. Honestly,
she could have lived her life and probably not even
run into us very often. We were avoidable, but she
wanted to put herself into our path just so she
could have something to complain about. Once again, it took
time to figure out exactly what her problems were with us,
but it all made sense when you take two of
the conversations we had with her. The first was about
our relationship. Karen, you know that you really shouldn't flaunt it.
The children around here might get the wrong idea. Me,
flaunt what exactly? Karen, everybody can see that you don't
have a ring on your finger. Living with a man
before being married is just telling kids it's okay to
run out and have sex with anybody they want. Me,
not really. And also, kids don't pay attention to if
people are wearing wedding rings, really. In fact, I don't
think most adults even notice or care. My parents have
been married for 35 years and they don't wear their
rings most of the time. Karen, that explains how you
can walk around without any shame. Bad parenting. The second
more relevant to the story conversation happened a few months later.
At that point, I was avoiding her because I wanted
to smack her stupid face after insulting my parents. Karen,
I noticed that you have a black walnut tree in
your yard. Me, yeah, it was one thing we loved
when buying the house. It's apparently really old. Karen, you
don't deserve that tree, you know. Boyfriend, excuse me? Karen,
you heard me. That is an old American tree. People
like you think you have any right to claim it.
And right there was when the other shoe dropped. My
boyfriend and I are both of Hispanic descent. And sorry guys,
I had to censor something there because OP was giving
too much personal info away. And I wouldn't want to
dox OP on the internet. Or rather on YouTube. Anyway,
we have zero accent, so she just saw darker skin
and her racism alarm went off. Me, look lady, I've
been patient with you. First, your comments about our relationship
and now you're talking crap about our race. If you
wanted the tree for yourself, then maybe you should have
bought the house. America runs on capitalism and we had
the money, so we got to buy the property. Karen,
how dare you speak to me that way? Boyfriend, how
dare you speak to us that way? In fact, don't
speak to us at all, please. We then walked away
before she could really go full Karen mode and call
the cops on us or something like that. We figured
that it would be the end or even more of
the same BS from her. What we did not expect
was for her to wait until we were both gone
for the day in order to have our tree cut down.
Turns out, in her mind, if somebody white could not
have it, nobody could. We are both nurses at a hospital,
and when shifts line up, we can be out of
the house for up to 16 hours straight. This gave
her more than enough time to do what she wanted
and believe she actually would get away with it. This
is modern times we live in, and security cameras seem
to be almost a requirement now. Between people stealing packages
of porches to people trespassing on property... they keep finding uses.
For us, it was that Karen was seen directing a
couple of men to cut down the tree on our property.
We got home and didn't actually notice until the next
day because we just got into bed and collapsed. I
do want to break away from the story and going
in order just for one second to tell you all
the most ironic thing. We did not find out until
way later, But to get the tree cut down, she
did not get something like a professional or anything. I
don't know if this is everywhere in the country or not,
but there are stores you can see people that are
usually Hispanic waiting to see if anybody will pick them
up for a job that pays in cash. So yeah,
Karen complained about my boyfriend and I being Hispanic and
in the country, while at the same time hiring Hispanic
people working under the table to do a job for her.
The only thing better would be if Karen understood why
that was ironic. Or even what the word ironic meant. Okay,
back to the normal timeline of events. So we got
a lawyer and wanted to sue her for trespassing on
our land and illegally cutting down the tree. It turns
out that the tree we had was not just old.
It was really old. Like it has been around for
centuries and should never have gotten cut down kind of old.
We were able to get an appraisal of what it
was worth and was told that the tree would be
worth $ 35, 000. We sent that report to our lawyer and
waited while he contacted Karen's lawyer to see if she
was going to give us the money. She refused of
course and things had to go all the way to
court in order for us to get the money. Now,
trespassing and destroying the tree was not the kind of
thing that would land Karen in jail or anything. It
was minor in the grand scheme of crimes, and she
basically was just ordered to pay us the money that
the tree was supposedly worth. We also got a restraining
order against her due to the general harassment and trespassing
of her. Since she is two blocks away, we don't
run into her naturally, and it makes my point before
of her being able to avoid us even stronger. I
don't think she's going to speak to us again, and
I can only thank God for that. Or, well, in
this case, the judge for the restraining order. It's kind
of sad that Tree is gone, because like I said
to Karen, it was one of the nice selling points
of the house. We are just gonna try and move
on from that, though. and tried to settle into the
neighborhood without Karen harassing us. And that if you have
an old tree on your property, it might be worth
more than you or anybody else thinks. And here, ripe stars,
if you get into the unfortunate situation of your neighbor
cutting down your old ancient tree or something, you should
definitely take it further, because that tree could be worth
a lot of money. Honestly, I don't know if anybody
agrees with me, but I think tree lore stories are
some of the best stories on Reddit. And the next
one is a petty revenge story. Last night I was
at work at my family-owned beverage shop. Edit, my family
doesn't own it, poor choice of words, it's owned by
a family though. It's not my favorite job I've ever
had because the customers are incredibly entitled. However, it's a
fairly young business and I've been in customer service long
enough to not give in to spoiled customers just because
they want me to. Anyway, the end of the night
was approaching, beautiful sacred closing time. We had gotten a
decent rush about 20 minutes before we closed at 10pm,
so we were a little cranky about how behind we
were on finishing our task for the night. At 9.55
we are finally getting somewhere with our cleaning when the
phone rings. It sounds like a youngish boy. I would
say 15 at most. He asked what time we closed,
and I responded with my usual, We close at 10
every night, but we'll be open at 11 again tomorrow morning.
That's not working for him. My friends and I really
want some of your drinks, but we cannot be there
by 10. Can we come like 5 minutes after and
still get drinks? I tell him no, the doors get
locked promptly at 10. Oh well, we really want the drinks.
What can you do? I say you can be here
by 10 because I personally will be locking the doors.
We hang up. I know he's going to try to
come in anyway and sure enough at 10.06 my co-workers
and I hear a bunch of banging and rattling on
the closed doors. Yep like three or four high school
aged kids. Sorry we are closed. The chairs are up.
The menu is turned off. Someone is mopping. The doors
are closed. Anytime they catch one of our eyes, which
we all do our best to avoid, they give us
what they think are puppy dog eyes and we laugh
and shake our heads at them. No dice. They keep
assaulting the doors. It's getting annoying so I look up
at them brightly with a big smile and start walking
towards the doors. They start getting excited, thinking they've finally
worn us down. I hold eye contact until I swerve
to the right to turn off all the lights. I
could hear their collective of disappointment through the door. It
felt amazing. They left, I laughed, and I won. And
the next one is an entitled Karen story. A couple
days ago I was getting my nails done at a
local salon. The girls there are amazing and it's just
three of them so they time manage as it goes.
Most people just walk in but most people know if
you do that you will have to wait. They usually
say come back in X amount of time and we'll
be ready for you. I had an appointment and still
ended up waiting a little, no big deal, they were slammed.
In that time three people came in and their names
were written down as next in line. As well as
two girls already waiting next to me, five people after me.
I then finally sit down to get my nails done
and it is a simple manicure with no polish. One
girl was doing pedicures on a couple and the other
had just started a full set. As soon as I
sit down, this teenage girl comes in with her parents
and seats herself at a table without saying anything. Her
parents then walk up to the lady who was doing
my nails and say, I quote, Her flight leaves in
five hours and we have to leave in one to
make it on time. Her nail just broke. Fix it. Rude. So,
so rude. Not to mention there are five people ahead
of her. The nail lady tries to explain that, but
the parents just talk over her and the techs have
a conversation about it in their language. And then the
girl doing my nail nods and says, Okay, when I'm
done with her, I will fix it. Okay, cool, cool.
I proceeded to ask for a dip manicure with nail
art and the deluxe spa package. The hour was up
and the girl and the parents were positively fuming. They
ended up leaving, her nails still broken, my nails look
great and I tipped extra. And the next one is
an HOA MIDA whole story. I, 25 male, own a
lakeside property that was legally and officially given to me
by my parents. I've been living here for six years
and have some great neighbors along with some not so
great ones. Of all my neighbors, I've only ever had
problems with one who lives right next door named Mariette.
She first moved in early this summer as she had
the former house on her property demolished and rebuilt. My
problems started with her over the use of my wood
stove and fireplaces. With the temperatures getting colder I have
started to use them daily. My house is not equipped
with any form of heating outside of the wood stove
and a fireplace. That means that from fall until spring,
I will constantly have them going to keep my place warm.
My family never outfitted the home with anything better because
it was for weekend trips and we would winterize and
leave it when things got cold. My parents thought of
adding oil heating when I moved in, however, I opposed
it because it was a waste of money and didn't
mind splitting logs. Five days ago, after having received my
shipment of logs for the fall, I was approached by
my neighbor Mariette. She came around asking for my parents
to which I said that they don't live here and
that I'm the homeowner. She did not believe me and
said that I was too young to be a homeowner
before leaving. Later that day I heard a knock at
my door and thought it was my girlfriend so I
gave my usual greeting of, hey sweet cheeks, while opening
the door. Unfortunately it was not her and it was
Mariette again so I apologized quickly and asked what she wanted.
Once again, she wanted to speak with my parents, to which,
in a more stern tone, said that I was their homeowner.
This time, she finally got it and said that I
am violating HOA policy by using wood-burning fireplaces indoors and outdoors.
In response, I said that as the new house looks,
I'm not a member of the group and that the
town permits fireplaces and burning yard waste. So that basically
means OP is not a part of this HOA. Anyway,
she then went on to ask why I even needed them,
because they do nothing but harm the environment. I went
on to explain that while the house exterior looks new,
the house actually has been around since 1930 and still
uses a wood stove and fireplace heating. She didn't believe
me yet again and said she would be back with
an inspector. Yesterday, once again, she came with another person
who introduced themselves as an HOA inspector. They tried to
talk about my fireplaces, but I shut them down immediately
and said that I'm not a member of their group.
The guy then tried to lie by saying that the
HOA is in control of all the properties in the area.
I immediately called him out on the lie and said
that he is either lazy or a moron for not
knowing that I'm not with them. We went back and
forth one more time before I told them that I'll
not listen to them and to stuff it and leave.
Am I an a-hole here? And yeah, ripe stars, let
me know in the comments what you think about this.
Is OP being the a-hole or are HOAs just being
HOAs as usual? A user in the comments said, not
the a-hole, if this continues, inform the HOA that if
they continue to arrest you, you have no issues looking
into legal counsel. Also, let your neighbors know that she
is not allowed on your property and if she comes over,
she is trespassing. Comment number two, not the a-hole. It
sounds like she's gonna be a real pain. Much as
I hate to say, it's time to lawyer up or
you're gonna be harassed by her and the HOA. Also,
she's entirely incorrect. A fireplace puts smoke particles into the air,
but as the wood is usually from dead and fallen
trees or trees being cleared for another purpose or sustainably
grown wood, it is actually far more environmentally friendly than
other ways of heating. carbon footprint near zero as opposed
to fossil fuels. You're not dealing with someone who has
a good connection with reality. Just speak with a lawyer
and send a letter to the HOA letting them know
that your neighbor is suing them to harass you, she
has already made them pay for an inspector and that
it may end in legal trouble. As a good neighbor
to the members of the HOA, you hope that this
heads up about her behavior saves them future headaches and costs.
Comment number three, not the a-hole, be prepared to fight
this in court though. It may not come down to it,
but being proactive at this point can only help you.
Get in touch with a lawyer and start keeping meticulous
records of all interactions moving forward. Do not threaten them
with legal action, just keep records and take your lawyer's advice.
And the next Reddit story starts like this. I work
in an industrial area and own my own factory. I
try to cut costs where I can and one way
I found was to do a lot of the transportation myself.
That had led to me owning an 18-wheeler truck and
driving it around a lot for deliveries and such. Most
days I use it as my main transportation to and
from work since I get supplies closer to my home
than the factories. I don't know the exact time frame
of when it happened or how, but there is a
neighborhood basically directly next to the industrial area. It is
small too, maybe just 30 houses. I could not imagine
many people wanting to live near that kind of environment,
and at first I assumed it was all just people
that worked there and wanted to not travel far. Well,
I was wrong and found out that none of the
people living in that neighborhood worked there. This neighborhood has
an HOA and calling it that is more than generous.
There is no way that the HOA is legal because
I'm pretty sure the area being used for housing in
general is not legal. I was actually reading stories in
this group that I learned the issue I was having
was not as isolated as I believed it to be.
In Asia, HOAs are not really a thing the same
way they are in the Western world. Color me surprised
to find out all of the other people having the
same kind of issues in my area. HOAs here are
out of control and more often than not have zero
legality to them. Now, I wouldn't have known any of
this if it wasn't for me getting stopped one day
by this horrible woman. In many parts of the world,
they would call her Karen. Karen, I need to speak
to you about this horrible truck and noise you keep making. Me,
what noise? The truck is pretty quiet considering everything. Karen,
you should not be driving a truck at all. I'm
the HOA president here and we have a policy that
forbids this kind of vehicle. Me, well, I don't live
in this neighborhood. It's also the only way to go
from my factory back to my house. I don't have
a choice. Karen, well, I'm giving you a choice right now.
You can either sell this awful thing or I can
make sure that you have nothing. Me, well, good luck
with that because I need this truck. Karen had no
intimidation factor and I really didn't care. This was not
where I lived and my factory was not part of
that area either. She couldn't just get me in trouble
for passing through the only road available to me. She
just wanted to try and act all tough and I
felt like I was calling her bluff by ignoring her.
Two weeks later I had an inspector come to my
factory claiming that there were reports of me not having
any proper permits. I knew this was Karen trying to
get me in trouble and my factory shut down as
some kind of revenge. When you call and make a
claim like that they don't just take your word for
it and shut a place down. I gave the guy
full freedom to see that everything was up to code
and all my paperwork was current. He could not find
a hair out of place and even just to make
sure things were covered, I also proved that the truck
and my ability to drive it was fine as well.
I passed without issue and was told that my factory
was perfectly fine and not gonna get shut down from
these claims. I did ask the guy if they were
going to report this back to the person who claimed
I was working illegally and they said yes. It was
part of it to make sure things got closed out
properly and Karen would not be calling them again and
again about the same issue. It was gonna take way
more than that in order to get rid of me.
Karen must have realized that her plan was stupid and
actually showed up to my factory one day. I was
not in like shock or anything since the company name
is on my truck and the internet exists. I did
not actually see Karen until after her next plan was
ready to backfire. I was in my truck going over
some paperwork for inventory being moved when a bullet came
flying through the driver's side window. It grazed my ear
but I won't lie and say that it didn't hurt.
I was bleeding and my body went into an almost
fight or flight type state. I actually opened the door
and jumped down in case another shot was coming and
this time not gonna miss. Instead I landed on the
ground and saw Karen standing there holding the gun. She
still has it aimed for me and instead of doing
the smart thing of taking cover I run over and
try to get the gun away from her. I'm about
twice her size and there's no difficulty when it comes
to disarming her and getting her to the ground. I
stayed there until the police showed up and that was
when her entire demeanor changed. She went from cursing me
and telling me that she was going to shoot me
again to crying and playing the victim the second she
saw police there. I got off of her so they
could put her in handcuffs because it was obvious that
she had shot me. My ear was still bleeding from
the bullet and now that the excitement was wearing down,
I actually started to feel some pain. I didn't want
to lose an entire day of work for just a grace,
but they convinced me to go to the hospital. If
nothing else, the medical report could help me in court
to prove that it was a gun and stuff like that.
Nothing major was wrong and I was lucky that if
it was a little off, I could have had my
ear shot off completely. Instead, I just got a small
scar and a very weird story to tell to people.
Getting shot might give people some tough guy cred, but
not when a Karen did it. Anyway, I did press
charges on her for attempting to kill me. She also
was in trouble because having the gun was not legal.
Getting them here can be hard, but when you get
caught with one you are not meant to have, you
are basically guaranteed to go to prison. Altogether, Karen was
getting locked up for a very long time, but it
doesn't actually end there. Due to the attention she drew
on herself from the entire thing, the government now knew
that there was an HOA that should not exist in
a neighborhood that shouldn't exist either. That area was industrial
as well, not residential. The people were all told that
they needed to move because their homes were going to
get destroyed due to not being legal. I have no
idea how many people living there knew about it but
I didn't really feel bad about it. The whole thing
just gave me a bad taste in my mouth for
that entire neighborhood so them being gone seemed great to me.
No more needing to pass through on my truck and
worry about a-holes complaining or trying to report my factory
to be petty. The next revenge story starts like this.
This happened a few months ago while I was visiting
London with some friends. My friends wanted to do some
outlet shopping, so we went to Bicester Village. And I
probably pronounced that incorrectly because all these British names are
always weird. Anyway, we decided to split up to save
on time, I tend to shop pretty quickly and I
was not really into high-end or luxury products anyway, so
around lunchtime I decided to go get a bite to eat. Now,
anyone who has been to Bicester knows that there is
not a lot of places to eat and tables to
sit at while there are so more often than not.
you share tables with other shoppers. Since I was alone,
I asked a fellow Asian if I could sit with her.
She just kind of sneered at me and rolled her
eyes but didn't say no to me sitting there, so
I did. There was another empty seat next to her
and soon her friend arrived. Her friend looked at me
and then said something to her friend in their language
while the other one laughed and rolled her eyes again.
I don't really mind that they are talking in their language.
They were entitled to do that, but they were both mean,
and I had an inkling that they were talking about
me at the start of their conversation. Here is where
my revenge comes in. Based on what I heard, I
knew they were Korean, since I watched my fair share
of Korean TV shows and could pick out a few words.
I am Asian too, but I was very obviously not Korean,
so they assumed that I didn't understand them. They were
right about that, but since I've been to Seoul a
number of times, I learned a few phrases while I
was there. As I stood up in my best Korean accent,
I thanked them and said goodbye in Korean. Now, if
they hadn't been talking about me, no harm done, right?
But based on how wide their eyes got when they
looked at me, I knew I caught them. So I
just smiled and then left hoping they learned their lesson
not to assume people around them don't understand them. And
the next one is a malicious compliance story. I'm 27
male and live with my boyfriend 28 male. The house
in question was our first place together that we had
been in for 5 years. It was the only place
we could afford and was not the most aesthetic when
we moved in. It is shaped like a shipping container
and not much bigger than one plus it is surrounded
on 3 sides by 2 plus story homes and on
the remaining side there is a parking lot for all
of said homes which opens onto a major road. In
the backyard there was a tiny shed which fits a
staked washer and dryer and was otherwise a thin strip
of dirt the length of the home boxed in by
the shed and the privacy fences of the other homes.
Our yard itself was not fenced in, we had to
use the front door and walk around the home and
then through the parking lot to access the laundry shed
slash yard, no back door. The original landlord was very
receptive to us and making improvements to the house. We painted,
refinished the cabinets, tiled the bathroom, etc., In the backyard,
I built raised garden beds, installed a small pond and
bird fountain, as well as other landscaping so that it
became a bit of an unexpected oasis. We had an
outdoor table and chairs so we could sit out there
in the morning and share a cup of tea. As
you may have put together, the original landlord sold the
home and our lease transferred to the new owner. We
had plans already in the works to purchase our first
home together, so we only intended to stay to the
end of the lease anyway and figured it should not
affect us too much. Almost immediately, the new landlord began
to harass us nearly daily, often about issues entirely out
of our control, such as cars being parked in the
lot sideways, cars which were first of all our neighbor's
cars and were merely slightly crooked, certainly not sideways. Once
he showed up at the front door at 8.30pm on
a Friday, we had two friends over to play board
games and have dinner, and he asked, Are you gonna
wind up the party anytime soon, boys? Because people are
gonna get the wrong idea, you know. We did our
best to appease the landlord for the remaining months, but
it became extremely grating and honestly made me feel like
I was being watched constantly. The final straw was when
a technician came to fix the washing machine in the
shed and the landlord noticed the table and chairs in
the backyard. We received an email that evening telling us, yes,
in all caps, to REMOVE ALL MODIFICATIONS OF THE YARD.
NO PADIO FURNITURE IS PERMITTED. Mind you, this is not
even visible from the road, but whatever, so I responded
just to be sure, apologies for the mistake. To confirm,
you would like us to remove all modifications we have
personally made to the yard since our move-in date? The answer, yes,
remove immediately at the soonest convenience. You got it, chief,
we were just about in our final month of the
lease and preparing to move to our new home. I
had planned to leave the raised beds, plants and an
empty pond behind, obviously, but I decided I was going
to revert the place to a dirt strip out of spite.
So that's what I did. I collected my bird fountain
slash pump, my fish, the flower bulbs and other plants.
I even took the dirt I purchased for the raised
beds to our new home. We filled in the pond
and made sure to remove all the grass so it
was one sad strip of dirt again. The landlord was
extremely angry to find the yard in that state and
he was threatening to sue us for destruction of property
because we ruined his pond. He tried to keep our
security deposit and he did take us to small claims
court over the so-called damage. However, we were diligent when
we had moved in and had photos of the original
yard plus the email instructing us to remove all modifications
of the yard. He tried to say that we had
done other damage to the home, all of which was
regular wear and tear after five years of occupancy, which
any landlord should expect and is responsible over basic maintenance
for such as repainting. Not to mention we could prove
we left the place nicer than it was originally with
approval from the original landlord at the time we did
the projects. I'm sure the judge saw through him immediately.
He was quite rude and continued to interrupt her, to
which she reprimanded him several times. That is to say,
we got our security deposit back in full, even having
trashed a yard. And the next one is an am
I the a-hole story. I ignored my co-worker. Am I
the a-hole? This is not an issue that I'm having
with the company. This is just something with me and her.
It's probably happening with other male co-workers, but I cannot
speak on their behalf. So I work in an office
and I have a normal friendly relationship with my co-workers.
We joke at times and have gone for drinks after work.
None of these people are my best friends or anything
but I'm cool with them including the women. Recently though
a new woman was hired and shortly after that we
received a message from HR. They said that we were
going to have some employee conduct and harassment meeting. They
brought in a speaker and we watched some videos and
did an online test like at a job orientation. Basically,
we learn to keep conversations work-focused, avoid or limit conversations
after hours or not at the job. Obvious things like
never make comments on physical appearance or do anything inappropriate.
They even gave acted-out examples. There was a video of
someone bumping into a co-worker at the park and they
showed the right and wrong examples. The right was just
basic formalities and keeping it moving, the wrong was extending
the conversation and asking about their day. I didn't think
anything of it because we have HR meetings like this
from time to time. Never this extensive though. The new
employee pretty much said that she asked for this meeting
to happen. She said that she agreed with everything we
learned and that it was good to know. Now, I'm
not here to judge her or say she did the
wrong thing. I don't know what she experienced in short
time she's worked here or at a previous job. I
don't know the kind of life she has lived or
what she has gone through. I really don't want this
to become people saying, don't trust women. And well, I
was at a coffee shop after work and she came
in shortly after me and tried to strike up a conversation.
I kept it friendly and short and then resumed what
I was doing. She seemed put off by that. And
then literally the similar situation to the video I mentioned happened.
I was at the grocery store, we bumped into each other,
I said short small talk things and wished her a
nice day. With my other co-workers, including women, I'm more
buddy-buddy and we have inside jokes. My co-workers buy me
birthday presents and we have a good time. Me and
the new co-worker work in the same small department, so
she interacts with me a lot. She approached me and
said that I'm ignoring and isolating her. I told her
I just don't want anything to be misconstrued. I keep
it professional if I'm ordering coffee and food for the group.
Then I would order ask what she wants. I just
make sure to not bring up personal life stuff with her.
And yeah, ripe stars, let me know in the comments
whether you think OP is being the a-hole here or not.
But I would very clearly say that OP is not
the a-hole. He is just very clearly adhering to the
rules and doesn't want to do any mistakes, especially with
that person. Sometimes I would say it's better be safe
than sorry. Either way, someone in the comments said, not
the a-hole, you are doing exactly what your HR mandated
training advised. Your coworker has told you that your coworker
feels isolated and ignored. Mention to HR or your manager
that you are adhering to the training, but your coworker
has expressed feeling isolated and ignored. Now you would like
official guidance dealing with the situation, get this documented. Comment
number two, not the a-hole, this is ridiculous. There's nothing
wrong with co-workers being friends or even dating. She asked
for this and that's what she's getting. Your employer is
also the a-hole for trying to coerce employees to not
be friends with each other. That's also a great way
to increase turnover. update to the story. Well I'm just
lost at like her getting HR to show us how
to properly interact with a co-worker and then me interacting
with her in the way HR showed makes her upset.
I get that she could have gone through something in
the past just don't know what she wants from me.
I'm just doing what HR suggested. I'm obviously not going
to give my co-workers I already have a bond and
friendship with the cold shoulder to accommodate to one new person.
She said she agreed with everything we learned from HR,
so I'm just applying it. I'm not doing this out
of some lame revenge desire or something. And the next
Reddit story starts like this. So one summer when I
was living with my cousin, he got into an all-out
war with this woman who lived next door to him.
She was a classic Karen with the haircut and the
sunglasses and the I'm so important attitude. He warned me.
me right away that she was trouble and I should
avoid her at all costs. Now, my cousin Jim, not
his actual name, works as a butcher in town. He
owns his own place and it is the sole place
for people to go and get fresh meat instead of
just the pre-packaged supermarket stuff. So that meant a couple
of things, one being that I was gonna eat like
a king for the entire summer, since obviously not everything sells.
Whatever doesn't become a summer's worth of great barbecue for us. Well,
it turns out that the heron is a vegan and
not a normal one. She is the kind that thinks
my cousin being a butcher should be a crime because
she personally does not believe. In eating meat. He told
me in the past that he had issues with her
because of his job and also the fact that we
are Hispanic and she comes off as pretty racist. I
actually got a first-hand experience of that when I was
outside relaxing and she started questioning what I was doing
in the neighborhood. Like if I was working as a
landscaper or if I ever had permission to be here.
Then when I couldn't respond fast enough, assumed I couldn't
speak English, so she started yelling at me that if
I don't know the language to go back where I
came from. Jim came and bailed me out of that
situation before anything worse happened. Later that week, she actually
called the police on Jim, claiming that he was in
this country illegally and tried to get him deported. He
was at work when this happened and had to deal
with the repercussions of the police coming into his shop.
He had proof that he was born here and once
the police saw that, they left him alone. Still, he
knew it was Karen and that once she didn't get
her way, she was just gonna get angrier. The next
interaction they had I was there for but just stood
by and let Jim do all of the talking because
I would not have been able to stay calm. Jim, hey,
I know that you tried to get me arrested. Karen,
you must have had some sort of fake document because
everybody knows that Hispanic people are not ever legal. Jim,
are you really that racist that you want to start
stupid stuff like this? Karen, well, I might be willing
to stop if you agree to shut down your murder store.
Jim was not shutting down his shop because Karen was demented.
It turned out that the police were not the only
people that Karen called to try and get him in
trouble though. While the IRS can be terrifying, they're not
exactly speedy when it comes to things. He didn't find
out until way after this story ends that she called
them and reported his business for tax evasion. He had
his records for the last 10 years combed through and
they found nothing wrong. Now, Jim has always been the
cousin that jokes around and has a hard time being serious.
That did not translate to how he runs his business
and the fact that he had physical copies of all
his tax reports in boxes in the basement for no
real reason. I mean, it was great because it saved
his ass, but I would never have thought that he
would be the type to do it. With the police
plan failing and the IRS plan taking forever, Karen decided
to file a frivolous lawsuit against Jim. For what you
might be wondering, Wes, at this point, he has done
literally nothing wrong. Her lawsuit claimed emotional distress for selling
meat in town and also cooking it next door to
her when he knew that she was a vegan, claiming
that she couldn't sleep or eat because a murderer was
living next door to her and she wanted compensation. I
think you can sense a theme at this point because
what happened next was, you guessed it, nothing. The lawsuit
went nowhere because none of her claims were a valid
lawsuit that any lawyer would touch with a ten-foot pole.
She could find one claiming emotional distress, but once details
were given, nobody was going to sue Jim for just
doing his job and living his life. We were sick
of Karen at this point, though, as I had been
there for about six weeks and only staying for a
couple more. Then the best opportunity happened when the entire
town ended up with a blackout due to the heat.
Normally a blackout would suck and at first it did
for everybody. No electricity meant no AC, no internet etc.
Jim had an amazing idea though. He called me to
come over to the shop and when I did he
showed me how a lot of product was gonna spoil
because of the blackout. It just wasn't gonna sell within
the day and he normally would need to dump it
all and take the loss. Well, instead he wanted to
do something that would piss Karen off, so he got
my help to run around town and tell everybody that
he was having a big barbecue at his house. With
the amount of people that said yes, it was looking
like block party amounts of people. Other people wanted to
help too, like the ice cream place who would bring
the ice cream that would melt otherwise. The local grocer
would bring ice since it would just go to waste
as well. By the time I met him back at
the house it was already crowded and full of people
waiting for some great food. I don't know who but
somebody had a big speaker and hooked it up to
music to really make it a party. Karen was pissed
about the party and came out to scream at people
to get away from the block. Nobody was on her
property so she didn't have anything illegal to complain about. Hell,
I made sure to pop into the police station in
town and let them know what Jim was doing. The
ones of duty came by for some food and actually
commended him for doing a good service to the community.
Now I love revenge but I think it's even better
when more people are involved. It was pretty much the
entire town having a great time while Karen was in
her house sweating and pouting about things. I asked Jim
that night if he did this entire thing just to
spite Karen and he admitted that it was the thing
that gave him the idea. Once he started though he
didn't think about her because of how happy he was
making everybody else. I honestly wish I could be more
like Jim, but when I get revenge, I always focus
on being as petty as possible and never forgetting about
the person I'm going after. I have a lot to
learn from Jim, but I think I would start by
learning how to make a ribeye as well as he does.
And here, ripe stars props to Jim. Not every single
revenge story has to end in people getting arrested, and clearly,
Jim is the bigger person here. He is not vengeful
and he doesn't want to hurt others, so props to
him for that. Either way, the next one is a
petty revenge story. For several years I was a banker
at an institution that no longer exists. During the last
days a good chunk of the employee base left instead
of sticking it out to the bitter end and getting
laid off. So then corporate decided to move people around
to our location since we were the corporate office. Enter N,
not real name, on the teller line who is your
typical middle-aged religious white lady who thinks that she is
above everyone else and was the most insufferable nosy person ever.
Now one day I'm finishing up with a client who
wants to withdraw some cash before they leave for the
day and walk them over to the teller line. N
is currently open, so I bring them to her and
briefly use the stapler at her station to staple the
client documents together. In front of the client, N stops
and goes, um, that's my stapler. I tell her that
it's the bank's stapler and that they supply one to
every station. I also give a subtle nod to the
client as to remind her this is super unprofessional. Completely
ignoring my hints, she looks me dead in the eyes
and goes, um, I wrote my name on it, so
it belongs to me. The second that sentence leaves her lips,
I formulate a petty plan. As soon as N leaves
for the day, I get to work. I print out
a good 20 to 30 labels of my name, and
start taping them to everything in her workspace. Monitors, individual pens, keyboards, mouses,
pictures of her family, etc. The next morning when she
came in and saw it, her face got red as hell,
did not help that everyone else thought it was hilarious,
because she was a pain in everyone's ass. When she
told the manager he called me in, gave me a
half chuckle, and just asked me to go a little
easier on her. The next one is a fantastic malicious
compliance story. I, male 19, work as a cashier in
a gas station in Miami Gardens, Florida. Naturally, the people
that come into the store tend to be on the
crazier side. The story had a line of maybe seven people. Now,
at this point, I had the register closed sign up
and I was stocking the vaporizers and accessories on the
shelves behind the counter. My co-worker was handling the customers
in line. I turn when I hear the door opening.
Another lady walks in without a mask on. And I
guess this was during the pandemic. Anyway, I politely ask,
excuse me miss, do you have a mask that you
could put on? She scoffed at me and rolled her
eyes as she ducked in her purse for a minute
or two. Finally, she pulls out a ready little mask
with only one functional strap and holds it to her
face while she is waiting in line. Well, apparently she
couldn't do that for very long. She comes to the
front of the line ranting and raving about how the
line is too long and that we shouldn't be keeping
a valued regular customer waiting. I've been working here for
four months and I've never seen her. I'm fairly confident
I know all the regulars. I tell her that there
are other things that my manager left for me to
do before the end of closing and that I have
to get them done. She didn't seem to like that
at all. She said, I demand that you open your
register right now. Okay, you got it, lady. I moved
the sign and then I turned back to her. Do
me a favor and stand a little bit to your right. Surprisingly,
she complied, albeit with her arms crossed and what I
can only assume was an angry gaze firing through her mask.
Cue the malicious compliance. Next customer, I yell out into
the store. It dawns on her what I'm doing but
the next customer shoots up in front of the counter
before she can even fully process it. I go about
this transaction as normal despite the fact that this lady
is yelling at me at the top of her lungs.
She is also no longer holding the mask to her
face mind you. I finish up with the other customer
and I turn to her. She tries to yell over me,
so I raise my voice a bit and I try
to be as stern as possible. I tell her, just
because my register is open does not entitle you to
skip all the other people in this line who also
have lives and jobs and other responsibilities. Get back to
the end of the line and be respectful or I
have no choice but to have you removed from the store.
We don't have security, but we are two blocks away
from a police station and one of the coolest officers
who comes into the store gave me their personal number
to use just in case that we have any issues.
The lady harramps loudly and walks dejectedly to the spot
in the line she had before she left. In the
amount of time it took for the rest of the
story to occur, more people had gotten in the line.
I said the back of the line. I told her pointedly.
She dropped her shoulders and walked to the back like
a toddler. People, man. And yeah, guys, that person certainly
knows how to deal with a Karen. Props to him.
Either way, the next one is another malicious compliance story.
So let's call her Karen just because it fits. She
came in and applied for a job when I looked
at her resume and application. I realized she knew some
of my old neighborhood friends and schoolmates. She interviewed well,
so I gave her a job. I told her to
be in Monday at 9 a.m. Monday morning, she is
not in. She no calls, no shows. Tuesday, no call,
no show. I had now written her off already. Wednesday,
she shows up about noon. She claims that she was
in her basement Sunday night and her brother was working
out and he accidentally knocked her out during his intense workout.
She claimed her doctor told her she had a concussion
and she should stay home for a couple of days.
She had no doctor's note, no marks on her head,
but thinking her story was so off the wall, it
could almost be true, I let her come to work
the next day. She then worked Thursday and Friday. We
paid at the end of every week and I gave
her a check Friday. I also did not deduct the
days she missed. She came to me and asked about
the full paycheck. I told her we were a family
business and realized people had lives outside of work. He
tried to make sure people knew they were appreciated and
tried to take care of our people. She teared up
and thanked me and said we can count on her.
She worked the full next week, did okay and she
seemed to fit in. The focus here is unseemed. The
third week she showed up on Monday, but Tuesday was
another no-show-no-call. We did not hear from her for over
two weeks. When she finally showed up, her story was
the stuff of legends. She claimed her husband had forged
divorce papers a couple years previous, Thinking she was divorced,
she moved back into her parents' house. She claimed her
ex-husband was at her parents' house when she got home
the last night she worked. He told her he made
up the divorce and the paperwork was phony, so they
were still married and he wanted to get back together.
She claims she refused and he kidnapped her. She said
it took her until a couple days ago to get
away from him. She wanted to come into work the
next day. She didn't call the police and he was
not arrested. There was nothing in the papers or on
the news about any of this. She was not hurt,
thank God, and she asked if I believed her. Well,
I didn't, but told her that I really needed someone
I could count on coming in reliably every day. I
gave her a paycheck for one week, she had worked
one day, and told her that I wished her good luck.
I had already replaced her and her replacement was one
of the best employees we ever had. So here's the
malicious compliance. The next month I come into a phone
message that someone from XXX company called for a reference
for Karen. As my secretary is handing me the message,
she is laughing at the look on my face. I
asked if she was kidding. She said she wasn't. She
said she got a call from a man saying that
he was the owner of a company in the area
and he asked about Karen. Then my secretary asked if
she could listen in on the call. She was a pistol.
She then goes and gets my partner and tells him
that I'm gonna call and give Karen a reference. Now
he is in my office laughing too. I call the
guy and we make some small talk. I tell him
what we do and he tells me that he wants
Karen to do it for him. I tactfully avoided answering
any of his questions about Karen directly. I think he
was beginning to suspect something. Remember, folks, employers can get
in a ton of trouble for bad references. He finally
asked my opinion of Karen, and what I said was,
If you can get Karen to work for you, you
will be very lucky. He heard what I said and
how I said it. He repeated that back to me
exactly as I said it. All my words were the
right ones. It was my tone and intonation that got
my point across. He thanked me and hung up. Karen
then comes into the office a couple days later. She
looks mad but is trying to be pleasant. She told
me she is having trouble finding a job and mentioned
she has used me as a reference. She wanted to
know if anyone from XXX Company has called me. She
knew they did and she told me she really wants
to job at XXX Company. I told her that I'd
been called and that I told the guy he would
be lucky to get her to work for him. My
secretary confirmed that's what I told him. She told him
she was right next during the whole conversation. Karen smiled
and thanked me and headed to the door. She said
she wondered why she was having so much trouble getting
a job. She asked if she could continue to use
me for a reference and I told her absolutely. I
also told her that I would tell everyone the same thing,
that any employer would be lucky if they can get
you to work for them. She walked away smiling, happy
and clueless. And the next Reddit story starts like this.
So for some context, a couple of years ago I
met a woman online from another country. I know it's
a tale as old as time and usually it doesn't
work out, but I thought we were different. If you've
ever seen 90 Day Fiancé on TLC, well, we were
asked to be on it, so I guess that says
a lot already. I was definitely in denial for most
of the relationship. She is stunning and I'm a fairly
ordinary looking man. But I was gullible, even with all
my family and friends trying to convince me not to
marry this woman and bring her over here. Anyway, flash
forward two years of chatting online and facetiming, we met
in person, she came over here. A month into the
trip and we were married, looking back on it, I
cannot believe I got married so soon after meeting her
in the flesh. From the very beginning we had some issues,
it was like she was a different person. She knew
that I would be supporting her financially and that I
didn't make a great deal. So we would have to
settle into a humble home. However, she ended up forcing
me to take out a huge mortgage in order to
get practically a mansion in the hills. Once again, I
was a fool and allowed all of this one week
into the honeymoon and she didn't come home one night.
I was looking for her all night and had the
cops doing a search party and everything. I was beyond scared.
And well, they found her the next morning. She was
walking out of a motel. My heart shattered. I saw
her in her disheveled state and knew immediately what had
happened in that motel. She denied it at first and
then broke down and started apologizing like crazy. She was
a very good actor, as I believed she was genuinely
heartbroken at her own actions. I forgave her again. Again
being a fool, you will notice a bit of a
pattern with that. However, a month later I noticed on
her phone that she was still in contact with the
guy she had originally cheated on me with. I thought
this was weird and decided to snoop around a bit.
It turns out they had been sending risky pictures the
whole time since the first motel encounter. I confronted her
once more and again came the waterworks. And again, I
forgave her, as I'm sure you can imagine my trust
had been broken and I became very insecure. I found
myself overthinking every encounter she had with another male, even
the women. It was so emotionally taxing. I brought up
lots of these feelings with her, and I'll admit that
I did go too far at times, accusing her of cheating,
which she did not do. Our relationship was on the rocks.
Thirteen times. By the end of our first year of marriage,
that is how many times she had cheated on me. Thirteen.
I don't even know how I stayed with her after
the first, let alone five, and then ten. It could
have been more, those were just the times I confronted
her and she had no way of denying it. The
story begins from the 13th time. So I came home
from work, the door was slightly unlocked and a stranger's
car was parked out front. I opened the door and
right in our lounge was my wife having intercourse on
our sofa. I stood in sadness, not shock. They scrambled
up but she practically rolled her eyes at the man
for being so frightened. She didn't care. Get out, she
said to me. What? I was shocked. She had never
acted this way after being caught before. I said get out.
This is my house too. I don't want you here
right now. Please leave. She waved her hand at me.
You cannot be serious. I just caught you with another
man and now you're acting like I've done something wrong?
The man in question was just staring between us. Yeah,
that's messed up. I'm out. He muttered as he grabbed
his clothes and headed out the door. Now look what
you have done. Leave. She started yelling and throwing things
at me and so I quickly left. I stayed in
a hotel that night. I was sure she wouldn't be
able to keep that up. I also don't know if
I even wanted to be home at that point with her.
The next morning I went back only to find all
of my belongings outside the house on the grass scattered
and somehow broken. I ran over to the door and
tried to open it but my key would not work.
She had changed the locks. It was around this time
that I was thinking of divorcing her. I finally had enough.
So that was when I firmly knew it was over.
I wondered briefly if she knew of my plans hence
her kicking me out. This is my home. Get your
stuff and go. She yelled from the window. I stayed silent,
loaded up my car and drove straight to my lawyer's office.
I explained everything and he rightly pointed out that the
house was in my name and there was no way
she could just claim it for herself and given that
I wanted a divorce, no relationship harm could be done.
I should just call the police. So that's exactly what
I did when I went back to my house. I
have called the police. I yelled up at the window
she was leaning out of. She slammed the window shut
and I heard footsteps running down the stairs. Suddenly she
was at the door and before I knew what was happening,
she had slammed her head against a wall. What the heck?
I exclaimed, rushing over to her, which was a mistake
as that is when the cops showed up. Officer, help me!
Look at what he did! She cried out. I was
immediately restrained and it took ages before they released me.
I had to guide them into my pocket for my
phone to then pull up the security camera that would
have captured the whole ordeal. They released me and my
wife looked pale. She knew this would not work out
in her favor now. Is this your house, ma'am? One
officer asked. Yes, it is, here. She shoved some documents
into his hands. I raised my eyebrow in confusion. He
gave me this house as a wedding gift. See? Ma'am,
these are clearly fake and the ones you have printed
out are not even for this state. The officer looked
at her and bemused. she started kicking up a fuss
screaming about how unfair it all was and claiming she
deserved the home it's just i i you don't she
was a whimpering mess say no more sir an officer
looked at me get a lawyer the officers drove off
and i left my wife on the porch to head
back to my lawyer We spent the next couple of
hours drafting up divorce papers. We did not sign a prenup,
which was what scared me, but my lawyer had plans.
After she was served the papers, we went to court.
I did not want her getting a dime. You forged
legal documents and faked a domestic assault. Is this correct?
The judge asked her. My wife looked like she wanted
to say something before the judge cut her off. I
have the proof on the officer's body caps. Both of
these are criminal charges. She smirked at me as if
she had already won the case. Now, as for evicting
your husband from his own home, the grounds for divorce
are as clear as day. With that, along with the
two things I've just listed, you'll be getting nothing in
the divorce. Is that clear? The judge stated. But, she began,
I felt like I had a frog in my throat
as I looked over to my wife who had brought
out the waterworks again. Yes, I was nervous as hell.
I don't even know how to this day. I sued her.
I got a hefty sum of money from her. I
knew she had savings from her parents. I didn't feel bad.
The things she had done to me accounted for a
much bigger punishment than she was getting. Now, here is
the biggie. Because the marriage is now invalid and it
had not lasted three years, she has no grounds to
legally stay in the country. She got deported. No, that's
so unfair, illegal, he should be deported. She screamed and
kicked real tears this time. My wife ended up being
dragged out of the courthouse by the police, begging and screaming,
kicking and crying, but it was no use, revenge had
been served and I could not have been happier. The
next one is a petty revenge story. I moved in
to see my new house a few years ago. The
people living right beside my house are a bunch of two-faced,
envious cowards. Everything I added to my house that they saw,
they would try to one-up on me. Garden, lighting, gazebo,
even my washer and dryer. Every time I get something new,
they would get something similar the very next week. Well,
I got a bit of extra income last year and
bought myself my dream car. It was expensive, but worth it.
The neighbors could not match it. Instead, though, they punctured
one of its tires. How do I know? I overheard
them talking about it, so I checked my CCTV footage.
And well, one of them crawled under the gate of
my property and nail gunned one of my car's tires.
I saved the footage but blood went to my head,
I decided to get back at them. They have a
dirt road for a driveway and they own a food
catering business. I soaked a bunch of nails in Coca-Cola
and then brake fluid to make them rust in a
short time. I then scattered them all over their driveway
and watched as their delivery vehicles go up and down
the road. All their vehicles' tires were punctured by multiple
nails per tire and their business was interrupted. At the
same time, I reported them to the cops with the
footage I saved. They were charged with malicious destruction of property.
And the next one is a malicious compliance story. I
walked into a gas station, we will call it Square L,
about 7.30am. Locally, that's 30 minutes after they start selling alcohol,
the county is dry between 3 and 7am. Grab two
of the largest packs of cheap beer they sell and
head up to the register. No big deal, just stocking
up for a small study party with friends on campus
later that day. The person behind the register eyes me
suspiciously as I set them on the counter and tells
me that I'm not buying them. I politely explain it's
after 7am and I don't see a problem. The manager,
denoted by dress, t-shirt instead of polo, leans over and
tells her to get my ID so she asks me
for it. I'm like fine whatever and I fidget around
a minute before realizing it's in my car. I say
as much and offer to grab it and she told
me to go ahead. I dash out to my car,
grab my wallet from my book bag, no big deal.
Walk back in and present it to the person at
the register, who promptly glances at it, snickers, snaps it
in half, tosses it in the trash and tells me
to get the F out of her store. I stood
there a minute, sort of dumbfounded. The manager tells me
to get the F out of the store or police
will be called and someone is getting arrested. I mumbled
something along the lines of the oh crap and opted
to comply with the second half. I went to my car,
grabbed my phone, called non-emergency and told them I just
had my driver's license taken and destroyed. Read off the address,
ended my call and then headed back inside and stood.
The manager tells me that's it, they are calling the police.
I let her know I already did so. The clerk
laughs and shouts for the people in the store to hear,
Y'all wanna stick around? This punk idiot called the cops
on us for taking their fake ID. It took about
10 minutes, but they showed up. As they arrived, the
manager rushed out the door and I walked behind. The
cop asked for me immediately by name, dismissing the manager
pointing at me and rattling off about my fake ID.
I told him what happened and I was told to
leave or cops were to be called and someone were
to be arrested. He then takes the statement from the manager,
then the clerk and then requests the ID to be
retrieved from the trash. He looks it over and hands
the two pieces back to me. He has not said
anything other than simple requests for info up to this
point and then asks me to come along. And we
are going to have a chat outside. At this point,
I'm actually growing a bit concerned. He punches in the
DL number. And up pops my face and info. Clean history,
both driving and criminal. He then lets me know that
destruction of a license is a misdemeanor in this state
and asks which one snapped it. We have a brief
conversation and at this point he is smiling ear to ear.
He asks me if I want to press charges and
at this point I've already missed first class so stating
I do. I'm told to play along with him, and
we share a course of action. By this time, there
were four squad cars and police milling about. Customers had
grown scared. We walked back in. I'm staring at the floor,
looking pensive, and he says loudly, What do we say?
And nudges me. I politely say, I'm very sorry this happened,
and I'm sure it won't happen again. The clerk and
manager begin chuckling. I then finish with, the manager requested
the clerk take it who snapped it and then the
manager is the one who said someone is getting arrested.
The officer undid the cuffs from his belt, walked up
to the clerk and began with Miranda rights. Another did
the same to the manager. Another 30 minutes roll by
while they are sitting in the back of the squad cars.
The store is devoid of employees until someone walks out
from the back cooler. I wait patiently, eventually they are
cut loose under own recognizance and I'm given a date
to play witness in court. We head back in and
the manager is irate. The employee on release bolted. I
pay for my now warm beer and then leave. My
professor got a great laugh out of the police report
and let me do my project presentation late anyway. Edit, update,
as for the court date, one of them pushed it further,
so it turned into two dates, as the witness I
showed up but was not really needed. The first pled
no contest to a charge for destruction of state property,
got six months probation and 1,000 hours of community service,
as well as having to write me an apology. The
other one ended up pleading guilty to an obstruction charge
and got six months probation only. Neither ended up going
to jail and only wore bracelets for the 30 minutes
or so in the car. Sorry, it's a bit anticlimactic,
but I felt justice had been served. For those who
say 1000 is not possible, it started as probation and
100 hours for the first person who pled no contest.
They spoke out against the judge, he upped it to
200 and 500 and then 1000. The kid kept mouthing off,
but the judge at that point told the bailiff to
remove them. That was the clerk, and I remember there
was a string of other offenses on their record. The
manager had only a previous possession charge, but on his
date acted humble and polite in court. The total opposite
of how they had acted in the store with the cops.
Edit number four, I never did get the apology letter.
If it was written and turned in, I have no
idea where it went. Edit five, for perspective on how
this county does things, I myself received 200 hours and
six months probation for getting caught stealing a pack of
cigarettes when I was 19. We were all young and
dumb once and they didn't use to hide behind the
registers everywhere, which I served in about 50 hours picking
up trash and then the guy signed off on the
whole time. So I doubt they would have to actually
serve the whole thing. And yeah, ripe stars, that actually
kind of surprises me in this case that there aren't
any bigger and more serious consequences for these guys. It
seems if you destroy an identity document of someone, there
should be severe consequences for you. Anyway, the next one
is a co-worker story. So I, 28 female, have been
working at this small software company for about three years
now and I genuinely love my job. I have great
co-workers and the work environment is generally positive. However, there's
this one co-worker, let's call her Sarah, 32 female, who
has been increasingly crossing boundaries. A bit of background, Sarah
joined the company around a year ago and we were
initially friendly. We would have lunch together occasionally and chat
about random things. I didn't think much of it and
it seemed like a normal office friendship. However, over time
I noticed that Sarah had started to use my belongings
without asking for permission. For example, she would take my stapler,
pens or even my phone charger without asking. At first
I brushed it off as her just being forgetful and
not realizing that these were my personal items. I tried
to be understanding and not let it bother me. But
then things started to escalate. One day I brought in
a special lunch I had prepared as a treat for myself.
It was a dish that my grandma used to make
for me and it had a lot of sentimental value.
I had placed it in the fridge with a note
clearly stating it was mine. When lunchtime came around, I
discovered that Sarah had taken and eaten my lunch. I
confronted her and she apologized, claiming that she thought it
was meant for the whole office to share. I didn't
buy it, but I let it go to avoid causing
a scene. Over the next few months, Sarah's behavior continued
to worsen. She began using my personal laptop without asking,
even though we all have our own work computers. She
would also use my coffee mug and other personal items
despite me having my name on them. I tried to
address it politely and asked her to stop, but she
would just laugh it off and say that she didn't
mean any harm. Finally, I reached my breaking point last week.
I had bought a new, expensive pair of headphones to
use at work and I had left them on my
desk overnight. When I arrived the next day, I found
Sarah using them at her desk. I was furious and
asked her to hand them over immediately. She tried to
play it off as a joke, but I had enough.
I told her that it was not funny. and that
she needed to stop using my personal belongings without permission.
I said it was disrespectful and a violation of my privacy.
The rest of the office heard the commotion and some
of my co-workers agreed with me, while others said that
I was overreacting and I should let it go. Sarah
has not spoken to me since and the atmosphere has
become tense. A few co-workers have even suggested that I
owe Sarah an apology for embarrassing her in front of everyone.
So Reddit, am I the a-hole for telling my co-worker
to stop using my personal belongings? And yeah, ripe stars,
let me know in the comments what you think about this.
Comment number one, not the a-hole, speak to your manager
and or HR. The stapler and even the cha-cha are
kind of reasonable. but the lunch, your personal laptop and
your headphones are completely out of order. Comment number two,
not the a-hole and you should also escalate it to
your manager to let them know it happened and see
if they think it should be escalated further. Someone who
cannot be trusted to accept personal boundaries and does not
take their co-workers seriously is a liability. And the next
Reddit story starts like this. The first one starts like this.
I was hesitant to tell this story because I feel
like with the state our country is in, it could
cause fights down in the comments. I'm going to still
talk about it because I feel like my HOA needs
to be called out for what they did and show
that just because you don't agree with something, that doesn't
mean you can break the law. So I live in
Texas and this is the land of American pride and
church and all of that good stuff. Plenty more but
I don't want to ramble and have a story turn
into a small book. So I live within an HOA
run community and when they don't like something they have
a tendency to try and bully people and threaten them
into submission. Usually because people don't know their rights and
fear the HOA really can take their money and home
away if they don't behave. I have a brother that
at the time was serving overseas and I wanted to
show my support for him and the others like him.
So basically, I put up an American flag in the
front of my house, which is not that uncommon of
a thing to do. I feel like if you went
back 30-40 years, most houses would have one in order
to show their pride for the country and military and stuff. Now,
with the government and flag being a little controversial, less
people display it and the HOA did not seem to
like that I did that. One HOA member confronted me
about it only a day after I put it up.
HOA member... Everybody can see that you put up a
flag by your front door. Me. Yeah, I did. It's
for my brother in the army. HOA member. Well, we
don't allow racism in this HOA, so you need to
take it down. Me. How is it racist? HOA member.
Everybody knows that the government is racist, and the flag
is a symbol of that racism. You're flying a patriotic
flag that glorifies horrible things. Me. Look, I get if
some people don't like it, but I can have a
flag if I want to. HOA member. Our president sells
real estate and your flag is going to make people
think this neighborhood is no good and prices will drop. Me,
that's not my problem. I'm not trying to say that
I agree with the government or what people in high
power think. I just believe that it is more complicated
than to just say the flag is racist when it
is a symbol for me to show respect to my brother.
After the HOA started to threaten me, though, I was
keeping it up due to spite as well. The HOA
started sending me fines in the mail for going against
their guidelines, claiming that my flag was a hate group symbol,
which was not allowed. They were sending me fines of $ 2, 000
every single day. Even if it was a valid thing
to fine me over, they were not allowed to fine
that much and keep it going daily. By the time
things got settled, I had fines adding up to over $ 100, 000.
Money they really did expect me to pay to them.
Spoiler alert, I had zero intention to pay them a
single penny, since I knew I was not breaking any rules.
It was not until I was getting letters threatening to
pay or face a lien on my home that I
contacted somebody for legal help. I sent in copies of
the fines and pictures of my offensive, hateful flag. He
filed some kind of paperwork I cannot remember the name
of that was basically forced the HOA to provide evidence
of the fines being valid. Not a lawsuit at this point,
just a bunch of legal stuff that I was glad
my lawyer was handling since I really didn't understand any
of it. I also don't know if they got the
notice of this before or after they decided to go
a step too far. I don't have like crazy security cameras,
but I do have one of those doorbell cameras to
help deter people from stealing things from my property. With
that I saw two HOA members running up to my house,
taking my flag down and running away. And by the
way guys, I'm so sorry if you hear rain in
the background, that's just another monsoon rain coming up, so
please excuse any noise you can hear in the background.
I was lucky enough to be home and getting the
alerts in real time to see what was going on.
I ran out of my house to try and catch
them but they had already set my flag on fire
in the middle of the street for everybody to see.
I started yelling and telling them that I had the
entire thing on video and was gonna sue them for it.
I guess they thought that the stuff was saved on
the actual camera and not the internet because about an
hour later I got another alert and looked just soon
enough to see one of those wear back with a
hammer and then just darkness. They destroyed the damn thing
thinking it would get rid of what they did. Instead,
it just gave me more evidence against them. I spoke
to my lawyer and he said I could press charges
for destruction and trespassing on the property. The other issue
about the fines was still going on separately, but pressing
the charges now opened a criminal trial against the HOA.
One they assumed they could win and pushed to go
all the way to trial. I will get to that
in a second, but first I want to close out
the other part of the story hanging in the air.
The HOA was never able to provide the right documentation
about the fines or how much they were charging me.
My lawyer sent a statement letter about me having the
right to display the flag and that federal right would
always overrule what they were gonna do. If they tried
to put up a lien on my house for it,
I was in the right to file with the state
against them. It was enough for them to get scared
and drop the fines then and there. Now for their
criminal trial, they were not looking good at all. They
were trying to once again claim the flag was a
hate symbol, and destroying it was doing the community a favor.
Here in Texas, the judges can be a little conservative,
so hearing that they stole and burned the flag was
not doing them any favors. They got another six months
added on each for the trespassing and destruction of my property,
needing to pay me to get a new one too,
but compared to jail and huge fines, that was not
much of anything. To say they were shocked would discredit
the looks on both of their faces, They really did
think that they had the right to tell me that
I could not have a flag and then destroy it
when I didn't cave into what they wanted. They picked
on somebody they could not bully and by the time
they figured it out, it was way too late for them.
The HOA as a whole got a warning from the
courts that they didn't want another issue of them breaking
the law or it could be a lot worse next
time for them as a whole. I then got a
new flag the very same day and hung it up
to show them that they cannot stop me from doing
what I know is well within my rights. The next
one is a line cutter revenge story. So I went
to Costco this evening. As we browsed plans, the lights dimmed.
We had not realized they closed early, 6pm, so we
abandoned our browsing, Costco employees have lives too, and rushed
to get the three things we really needed and got
in line. The line for the quick check, it's like
a self-check but there are employees doing the scanning, was
hella long but that was our problem for rolling in
so late. An older lady behind us turned out to
be an employee of duty and she explained that folks
with perishables were prioritized at the regular registers rather than
the faster quick check lines. So we are waiting our
turn like everyone else and the line is moving along
with reasonable speed. We are about a half a dozen
back when a dude with a cart full of perishables
comes in from the side clearly trying to merge in
front of us. He was a younger dude, maybe 30,
and we are women on the back half of our 50s.
We kept moving forward, not allowing him to slide in. Note,
he never looked at us or said anything. We were
two back and it became clear he was gonna rush
past us to the next checkout. Not on my watch.
I zipped up and stood in front of him, the
cart at my back. He tried to maneuver around, but
I kept my ass planted about a foot in front
of his cart and didn't yield ground. Finally, he started saying, ma'am,
can you move? And I said, you're trying to cut
in front of all of these people. Get back in
line like everyone else. However, he did not. I was
confident he wouldn't touch me with his card. I mean,
witnesses everywhere, and he's a big younger dude hitting a
short older woman. Before long, it was our turn, so
I had to move, and as he rushed to the checkout,
I said more loudly than necessary, you're cutting in line,
you a-hole. I spotted a free checker and pointed him
out and said, he's cutting in line. The checker, my hero,
immediately saw the looks everyone else was giving him and
she directed him to the back of the line. A
male employee stepped up and loudly announced that there was
one line which had been the case since these lines
opened and the line formed back there as Cutter Dude
made his walk of shame to the end of the line.
I thanked the checker while our three items were scanned.
We then headed out feeling powerful like we had vanquished
an evil monster. Ironically, if we had a real emergency
and were in a legit rush, I would have offered
my place in line and gone to the back myself.
I was not in any hurry though, but no, he
was a jerk with a raging sense of entitlement. and
he got what he deserved. And the next one is
titled Splitting Costs Malicious Compliance. So my ex-wife and I
used to have a great relationship, but she has become
petty and somewhat vindictive these last couple months. Our relationship
started going downhill after her daughter, my ex-stepdaughter, broke into
my house and stole from me and my new wife
while we were on vacation together. Yes, I invited my
ex-wife and her boyfriend to come on vacation with us
too so it would be a family thing. My current
wife was completely fine with it. Interesting relationship by the way. Anyway,
not only did we invite them, we paid for everything,
plane tickets, rental house, meals, activities. We have done this
before and it was nice. While we were on this vacation,
my ex-wife's daughter broke into our house and stole from us.
We had to file a police report because some of
the things stolen was medication and we could not get
new prescriptions without filing a police report. And well, this
upset my ex-wife even though we told her before we
called the police and she said, Do what you need
to do. Before this, my ex and I would pretty
much just buy what the kids needed while we had them.
Every once in a while, she would ask me to
split the cost of the some things and I would.
I've never asked her to split the cost of anything
prior to this, But lately she has been asking to
split the cost of just about everything. Fine, whatever. I
usually get most of the things for the kids anyway.
About a month ago, my son needed some new equipment
for indoor legs. She asked if I would split. I
said fine. And when she took him out shopping, they
couldn't find everything. So I bought most of it online.
I asked her what she bought and how much and
I told her what I bought and how much and
it turned out she owed me for the split. It
was only $ 40, I would have let it go but
she hounded me for a week over $ 5 so this
pissed her off. She would be fine when I have
to pay her but gets pissed when she has to
pay me. I only asked her for the portion of
the split because she asked me to split the cost
in the first place. We argued back and forth and
then she came up with a list of things we
should not have to split and anything else we would split.
So I started keeping track of things that I paid
for that were to be split between us, so she
gave me her list and what I owe her. Not
a lot, I owe her $ 80. But when I gave
her my list and her share, she now owes me $ 425.
And yeah, ripe stars, I just hate it when people
give you a hard time when you owe them $ 5
or something, but then they, on the other hand, if
they owe you $ 50 or $ 100 or something, they don't
give a damn and they don't pay you back unless
you remind them. Personally, I don't really like to lend
money from people I would, I would pay them back
as soon as I can. Either way, the next one
is a property M.I.D.A. whole story. So I live in
an area that is seeing a lot of new builds.
My husband and I have the last large lot on
our street, lived here for 20 plus years. Probably 800
people lived here when we bought our house, now it
is 10,000 plus. It's about 1.5 acres, we installed a
big play area a few years ago for nieces, nephews
and eventual grandkids. It is on the opposite side of
our lot, pretty far from the house and there is
a path that goes from our second driveway. It is
landscaped and we purchased it from a contractor who was
replacing some other park so I can see how people
mistake it as a town park. This happens often that
people stop to play and I usually don't care but
we don't encourage it as we have two giant dogs
who will bark at strangers who come in the yard.
I put up some blatant signs that says private property
and beware of dog. Right now it's still cold here,
it's an early Friday morning and I opened the door
to let the dogs out. They basically stay in the
yard and ignore anything outside the yard. The dogs start barking.
I hear yelling. I run outside and there's a couple
and their kid playing on the playground. I call the
dogs back and put them in the house. I go
over to apologize and let them know it's not a
public park. As soon as I get within earshot, the
mom starts yelling. What the hell is wrong with you?
We are calling animal control on your ass. Who lets
their dogs just run around the damn park? Get a fence.
I hate confrontation so I get a little shaky. I
tell her it's not a park, it's my yard. She says,
get the f out of here, get away from us.
I point to the signs and tell her that it's
not a park, it's our yard and they need to leave.
She starts going on about how it is illegal to
leave a play area open. It isn't and it's illegal
to let your dogs off leash in this neighborhood. It isn't,
there are almost no bylaws here yet. I tell them
again to just leave and they were not allowed to
be on the property. My dogs are in the big
window barking. and her husband is screaming that I should
train my dogs before they kill someone. These dogs are
bred to guard and detain intruders, historically we don't train
them as guard dogs though. This pissed me off more
than anything because I am an irrational animal lover I
called the police afterwards. When they saw that I was
on the phone with the cops, they started shouting about
me being a Karen and started getting in their car.
Their poor kid was crying and the woman said, Watch
what happens when you end up on Reddit and we
tell people where you live. So here you go, Reddit.
My kids checked and didn't find anything about it here,
so I'll post it first and I hope she does
post something. I'm sorry my dog scared them, but the
screaming and threatening was so over the top and honestly deranged.
My kids want me to end this by asking if
I'm the a-hole because I am old and I want
people to get off my lawn. And yeah, ripe stars,
even though that stupid meme of supposedly entitled old people
that scream at children to get off their lawn because
they are playing or something... I would say that this
meme certainly doesn't apply here and OP was 100% in
the right. It's her private property and these people had
no right to be outraged like this and no right
to make any complaints. Anyway, a comment on Reddit said,
not the a-hole, if it's your property, it's your property.
That woman was obnoxious and it's her fault her kid
was crying. I would install a privacy fence and lock it.
Comment number two, not the a-hole. If you don't want
a fence due to cost, consider landscaping alternatives that will
make it more obvious it's part of your home. A hedge,
a series of small bushes, literal rocks, etc. And yeah,
ripe stars, let me know in the comments what you
think about this. Is OP being the a-hole here or not? Also,
we got an update to the story and it says
everyone is saying install a fence, but that would cost $ 15, 000 plus.
I've just contacted a company about getting a gate for
our second driveway. Also, where we live, you cannot sue
someone if you are trespassing on private property. Suing people
is not something people can easily do here and usually
it's not for any big settlement. Before you comment about
attractive nuisance law, it doesn't exist here. I don't want
to say where I am, but it is not in
the US or anywhere close. And yeah guys, thank you
so much for listening to this episode. If you enjoyed
my content, please don't forget to rate the podcast positively.
That would help me so much. Thanks a lot and
I will talk to you again soon.
