Using his digital footprint, they trace him through Martindale to an intersection near Luling where he should have turned toward I-10, but instead continued onto dark rural roads; his phone activity ends around 11:24 PM and his crashed Nissan Altima is found at 12:31 AM. Police later locate Jason’s clothing laid out methodically about 900 feet from the car, plus his backpack containing his wallet, laptop, PlayStation, a deceased fish, and a pill bottle holding eight rolled joints, while his phone is later found wedged in the car.
