Speaker 1: Hello everyone, and welcome back to the HEMORH Territory Podcast.

Speaker 1: This is episode three five two. My name is Brad

Speaker 1: Roland and I'm joined on this opening day for the

Speaker 1: Braves by my good friend Scott Coleman. Scott, in contrast

Speaker 1: to last season, the Braves are one to zero.

Speaker 2: How's it feel, hello, Brad, God bless that we are

Speaker 2: not going to start another baseball season zero to seven.

Speaker 2: That was they really put us through our paces.

Speaker 1: A year ago.

Speaker 2: But hey, a great win for the Atlanta Braves tonight,

Speaker 2: a clean win, six nothing over the Kansas City Royals.

Speaker 2: The team pitched well, the team hit well, the team

Speaker 2: played really good defense just across the board. This was

Speaker 2: a perfect start to the season and hopefully a sign

Speaker 2: of things to come down the road.

Speaker 1: Absolutely an encouraging performance from the Braves to begin the season.

Speaker 1: And we should also say at the top for anybody

Speaker 1: that might be new joining us for the first time,

Speaker 1: we're going be coming back from the all season. We

Speaker 1: are Henry Territory. We are part of the Vallie Territory Network.

Speaker 1: We cover the Braves all season long and really all

Speaker 1: year long. And with that, let's mix it up. Engineered

Speaker 1: by fastenal all right, Scott, let us dive in. It's

Speaker 1: what became a six nothing win for the Braves eleven

Speaker 1: hits only five US allowed. It really was kind of

Speaker 1: a cruise control victory. And that's not a huge surprise

Speaker 1: given that Chris Sales on the Mountain and generally was

Speaker 1: speaking when Chris Sales on the Mountain thinks are good

Speaker 1: for the Braves. But it was their first opening day

Speaker 1: at home in a long time. Some interesting nuggets along

Speaker 1: the way. They had an interleague game, which I thought

Speaker 1: was odd, and then I realized from Braves pr that

Speaker 1: actually was odd, the first time ever had interleague to

Speaker 1: begin the season. But what was your biggest takeaway? I mean,

Speaker 1: because we'll talk about this later on. There was a

Speaker 1: lot of line up discourse and fun stuff, But what

Speaker 1: do you want to lead with on this Friday night

Speaker 1: after a again kind of cruise control victory.

Speaker 2: I thought the lineup was I mean, the lineup was

Speaker 2: great tonight against Cole Reagan's, one of the very best

Speaker 2: lefties in baseball. I know Cole Reagan's is maybe not

Speaker 2: a household name for every fan base, but Reagan's is

Speaker 2: nasty from the left side. It gets a ton of

Speaker 2: swing and miss a ton of strikeouts, and the Braves

Speaker 2: did a fantastic job tonight with the bats. And truthfully,

Speaker 2: when you saw the lineup come out today, which is

Speaker 2: of course missing a couple of players, it was like, oh, okay,

Speaker 2: all right, this is our lineup against lefties. At least

Speaker 2: for the first I don't know, a few weeks, first

Speaker 2: month of the season. The Braves were great and they

Speaker 2: got Reagans out of the game. He threw eighty pitches

Speaker 2: over four innings. They really made him work. They didn't

Speaker 2: really give away outs, and they had a couple of

Speaker 2: really clutch hits throughout the night. And I mean it

Speaker 2: was just a smooth, sailing game pretty much the whole way.

Speaker 2: A great start in the first inning Ozzie Alby's homeward,

Speaker 2: and after that it was basically all Braves all the way.

Speaker 1: We might discuss a little bit more of a lineup

Speaker 1: in a second, but what was the funniest thing, for

Speaker 1: sure was that Ozzie Alby's hit third That created a

Speaker 1: lot of discourse on the internet, including for me. I

Speaker 1: have to say, like, I didn't I didn't love that,

Speaker 1: but Ozzie, who you know, I've always been an Aussie guy,

Speaker 1: and look, he has always, basically until maybe parts of

Speaker 1: last season, been incredible against lefties, always like we used

Speaker 1: to do a thing on the show about like basically

Speaker 1: he was Mike Trout against lefties, like prime Mike Trout.

Speaker 1: So maybe he's back to that. I would love for

Speaker 1: that to be the case. But Ozzie hit third, and

Speaker 1: of course hits a home run in his first play appearance,

Speaker 1: and that light theater on a fire. It's like, oh,

Speaker 1: this is like a warm blanket. We're back everyone that

Speaker 1: kind of had I wouldn't say I want to say everyone.

Speaker 1: Most people that I saw did not love the Ozzie

Speaker 1: hit third, and it's like, hey, in your face, this

Speaker 1: is baseball. Don't forget you. You'll be humbled if you

Speaker 1: try it with your takes. And I was encouraged. I

Speaker 1: love Ozzie, but just generally speaking, that was fun to see.

Speaker 1: And also it's a reminder like he does have some

Speaker 1: ceiling from the right side, and we's maybe he saw

Speaker 1: that a little bit today. I don't want to overreact.

Speaker 1: It's one game, but I was encouraged.

Speaker 2: Absolutely. If we are going to get Ozzie Alby's back

Speaker 2: to the hitter he has been basically his entire career

Speaker 2: up until last season against left handed pitching. That is

Speaker 2: massive for the Atlanta Braves. It cannot be understated how

Speaker 2: big that is for this team in this offense as

Speaker 2: it tries to bounce back after two very down seasons offensively.

Speaker 2: If Ozzie's going to hit lefties, it is huge for

Speaker 2: this lineup. It's really going to give him a boost,

Speaker 2: especially while Murphy and Hassan Camera both on the injured list,

Speaker 2: who both hit lefties. Well, it's only going to help

Speaker 2: and just one game, but really encouraging. Both Ozzy and

Speaker 2: Michael Harris had a homer later as well, for two

Speaker 2: players the Braves are really hoping can bounce back and

Speaker 2: be more of the players that we have seen them

Speaker 2: be over the years. Really good signs. To have both

Speaker 2: Ozzy and Michael Harris homer tonight on opening.

Speaker 1: Day for sure, and Michael having a home run against

Speaker 1: a quality left hander as well, like him hitting righting

Speaker 1: is not hugely surprising him, and homer against the good

Speaker 1: lefty is really encouraging. And it was it was a

Speaker 1: rocket shot as well that it was probably what broke

Speaker 1: it open. Honestly, the Brais went up for nothing when

Speaker 1: that happened, and they were already in comfortable shape. Now

Speaker 1: we know that now, we didn't know Wily know that then.

Speaker 1: So that was a big swing. And then look Drake Balwin,

Speaker 1: not that we were worried about him at all coming

Speaker 1: off his rookie season. Immediately Homer's in the third ding.

Speaker 1: You know, Drake, it looks like a star to me.

Speaker 1: I think you've said the same, there's always the possibility

Speaker 1: of a little bit of regression, but not today he

Speaker 1: looked like Drake Balwin, and you love to see it. Basically.

Speaker 1: You know, we've talked about it a little bit so

Speaker 1: far of this winter and into the spring about how,

Speaker 1: you know, some of the issues that the Braves have,

Speaker 1: and we won't talk about that all tonight, about the

Speaker 1: pitching staff and all that stuff, but we have been

Speaker 1: saying repeatedly on the show the last couple of weeks, like, hey,

Speaker 1: that all matters, but if they hit a lot, it

Speaker 1: would be a lot that would be very helpful to

Speaker 1: overcoming that. Like you know, back to twenty twenty three,

Speaker 1: basically just mash and everything else figures itself out. They

Speaker 1: kind of mashed in this game three home runs and

Speaker 1: if you do that at the rest of the three

Speaker 1: home runs in a regular basis thirty to win a

Speaker 1: lot of games would be what I would say.

Speaker 2: We really need to see the power come back for

Speaker 2: this team. And we know. I mean, that was the

Speaker 2: bread and butter of the historic twenty twenty three offense.

Speaker 2: Like every night, three homers, four homers. It was really encouraging.

Speaker 2: And I mean, what more can you say about Drake

Speaker 2: Baldwin a one hundred and ten mile an hour off

Speaker 2: the bat rocket ship that just cleared the right field wall.

Speaker 2: I mean, I think it hit the wall with like

Speaker 2: two and a half seconds after we made contact at

Speaker 2: the plate. It was just a no doubt or really

Speaker 2: good for Drake.

Speaker 1: I mean, a player who.

Speaker 2: The sky is the limit. This year, I'm expecting a

Speaker 2: really special season from Baldwin, and tonight was a really

Speaker 2: great start again off of Cole Reagan's one of the

Speaker 2: top lefties in the American League for.

Speaker 1: Sure, love us see and even Marisio Dubon got in

Speaker 1: the actual the two run double in the seventh inning

Speaker 1: to kind of that was the final scoring for the Braves,

Speaker 1: but it was a collective effort ironically, the team's best player,

Speaker 1: Rondacunya was the only guy who didn't reach base, and

Speaker 1: I'm not worried about running at all, so that makes

Speaker 1: me feel better. If there's one guy that it's like,

Speaker 1: I'm okay with my getting on base in game one,

Speaker 1: it's Ronnie, who was gonna be awesome no matter what

Speaker 1: I think. So yeah, across the board balance home runs,

Speaker 1: Austin Rile looked great as well, which is very helpful

Speaker 1: and a fun game. We'll talk about the pitching staff

Speaker 1: in a second, and like the run prevention aspect of

Speaker 1: this game. But Sale was great, superb defensively, like he

Speaker 1: was just one of those fun games. And they won't

Speaker 1: all be like that even when they win, Scott, We're

Speaker 1: gonna have some stressful nights when it's not like, hey,

Speaker 1: they're winning every moment of the game basically, but it

Speaker 1: is nice to have a kick your feet up victory

Speaker 1: on a Friday night, great weather in Atlanta Place was rocking.

Speaker 1: I was indoors freaking out about basketball games personally, but

Speaker 1: for everybody that was only watching baseball, I'm sure it

Speaker 1: was honestly just a tremendous experience because the brave is

Speaker 1: just like getting off to a good start. It's like, oh,

Speaker 1: this is nice, warm blanket here.

Speaker 2: We are really a great start. And I think it's

Speaker 2: fair to say, especially early in the year, as the

Speaker 2: Braves are going to be piecing this rotation together with

Speaker 2: Scotch tape and a prayer, they have to win Chris

Speaker 2: Sales starts like it becomes even more paramount that they

Speaker 2: win these starts. And of course when Sale is on

Speaker 2: the mound, I'm gonna take the Braves and their chances

Speaker 2: to win just about every night, no matter who the

Speaker 2: opponent is. But really a great, great start to the year.

Speaker 2: Sale looks sharp, really good defense. You mentioned that a

Speaker 2: minute ago. We can go into that a little bit

Speaker 2: deeper here in a minute, but I mean, really, just

Speaker 2: across the board, it was a perfectly played game, some

Speaker 2: timely out Sale ran into some trouble early on, but

Speaker 2: was able to get some timely double plays. It was

Speaker 2: just I mean, I mean, again, maybe we're all still

Speaker 2: scarred from a year ago when they started zero to

Speaker 2: seven and we're like making up new ways to lose

Speaker 2: games that first week out West, just really good, enjoyable,

Speaker 2: clean baseball game tonight and now hopefully they can keep

Speaker 2: it up and at least win a series to begin

Speaker 2: the year.

Speaker 1: I would agree. And that was our mix it Up

Speaker 4: going to be in the sun. It might shift during

Speaker 4: the summer, but hey, you know what, seek will let

Speaker 4: you know exactly where you're sitting and if it's a

Speaker 1: All right, Scott, let us discuss the great work of

Speaker 1: Chris Sale. We just talked about Chrisale a little bit

Speaker 1: in our first segment, but let's rolle down a little bit.

Speaker 1: Six shot innings not a huge surprise. Three hits, three walks,

Speaker 1: struck out six. It's kind of funny. We were as

Speaker 1: we if you're a new a listener you might know this,

Speaker 1: but if you're a recrreentless you probably would. We have

Speaker 1: a document. We go back and forth. Scott and I

Speaker 1: shirt some ideas with each other during the podcast. During

Speaker 1: the game, I should say about the podcast, and it

Speaker 1: was like, hey, christ all doesn't necessarily look incredibly sharp

Speaker 1: by Chris Sale standards. And you look up and it's

Speaker 1: six innings, shut up innings and six base runners and

Speaker 1: six riccounts, and it's like, if that was like a

Speaker 1: B minus Chris Sale start, we're all gonna be fine.

Speaker 1: Everything okay, And Chris, it's like just a reminder of

Speaker 1: like how good he is because he can just do

Speaker 1: that without his absolute best stuff, and his best stuff

Speaker 1: was not necessarily president but he still lost.

Speaker 2: And I think, I mean, the first three innings, Chris

Speaker 2: had quite a few base runners and there were a

Speaker 2: couple of double plays that were very timely. It felt

Speaker 2: like the Royals were gonna get a couple of runs,

Speaker 2: and Chris really bared down and got a couple of

Speaker 2: key ground balls, and then a great defensive play in

Speaker 2: left field from Eli White. You know, I kind of

Speaker 2: half joked but half serious said in real time, like, hey,

Speaker 2: Eli White is probably not going to hit the level

Speaker 2: that Jerkson Profar was expected to hit for this team,

Speaker 2: but Eli White defensively in left field is a real asset,

Speaker 2: like a genuinely good fielder in left field. That was

Speaker 2: a huge catch, saved at least one run. Who knows

Speaker 2: where the inning goes if he doesn't make that play.

Speaker 2: So yeah, I mean, it's it speaks to Chris Sales

Speaker 2: talent and ability when he was a little shakier. But

Speaker 2: you look up at the box score and six innings

Speaker 2: scoreless really settled into after those first couple of innings

Speaker 2: was pretty clean. I think he sat down seven in

Speaker 2: a row at one point. He was very much vintage

Speaker 2: Chris Sale, and that's a good thing because that's not

Speaker 2: always the case this early in the season.

Speaker 1: Right And actually, this is kind of a crazy stat

Speaker 1: from front of the podcast Nikowski, who you talked to

Speaker 1: a few days ago on the show People Can that's

Speaker 1: still relevant right now. I know they played a game

Speaker 1: now it's a season preview, but listen to that episode, sej.

Speaker 1: It was great with Scott. But he had the stat

Speaker 1: on Twitter that Sale only induced two ground ball double

Speaker 1: plays all of last season, and he got two tonight,

Speaker 1: which is kind of funny. Sometimes you kind of have

Speaker 1: some good fortune. He had the one in the second

Speaker 1: ending where he kind of wigged out of a paceloaded

Speaker 1: jam because of it. But look, it was a good pitch,

Speaker 1: good execution. I got a little worried when Ozzie's trying

Speaker 1: to turn double play always I'm a little bit terrified

Speaker 1: of Ozzie's throwing arm, But it was comfortably it was

Speaker 1: comfortably out. That was nice to see from Ozzie. But yeah,

Speaker 1: I mean he got some help, but Sale just did

Speaker 1: Sale things, which I certainly was encouraged by. We talked

Speaker 1: about the defense, but it really was like really good

Speaker 1: all the way around, not only a mistake free but

Speaker 1: some high level plays. You mentioned that White Ronnie had

Speaker 1: a nice running grab. Ronne's defense spend a point of

Speaker 1: contention the last year or two. He was good in

Speaker 1: this game. Austin Radley and Met Olsen at the corners

Speaker 1: did what they often do, especially you know, Olsen's an

Speaker 1: elite defender at first base. Rally is always controversial, but

Speaker 1: still a solid to fine defender. And yeah, just the

Speaker 1: little plays and the big plays defensively, and that's maybe

Speaker 1: one thing they can do as well in this stretch

Speaker 1: where the pitching is not going to be maybe fantastical

Speaker 1: across the board. They don't really have a lot of

Speaker 1: places right now that you would point to and worry about. Defensively,

Speaker 1: you might want to have some more bats, like if

Speaker 1: profar I'd been playing left field today, it would have

Speaker 1: been a little bit more worrisome, you know what I mean.

Speaker 1: But they don't really have anybody that's like a butcher

Speaker 1: out there at the moment, which is nice.

Speaker 2: Oh, I mean, it's really going to help this team.

Speaker 2: And you know, Mauricio Dubon was challenged a couple of

Speaker 2: times early tonight, and especially in I think the first

Speaker 2: leadoff single for the Royals, and then Bobby Witt just

Speaker 2: smoked a baseball right at Dubon and he had to

Speaker 2: have a quick twitch in order to field it, flipped

Speaker 2: it over to Ozzy, and then Ozzy was able to

Speaker 2: get the double play with a nice throw, like, yeah,

Speaker 2: you're gonna need that. And we know this is a

Speaker 2: wounded team right now and hopefully in a couple of weeks,

Speaker 2: a couple of months they're in a healthier, better spot.

Speaker 2: But playing things like clean defense and running the base

Speaker 2: as well, that really does add up over the course

Speaker 2: of one hundred and sixty two games, and just one game.

Speaker 2: We don't want to just forecast anything after one out

Speaker 2: of one hundred and sixty two games here, it's still

Speaker 2: very early. But again, man, just to cross the board

Speaker 2: really encouraging signs from the team, and we'll take it.

Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know about you. I'm I'm forcussing

Speaker 1: unbeaten at this point, I mean, how many wins could

Speaker 1: the Braves have thirty?

Speaker 2: Let's go for the start one sixty two and Oho

Speaker 2: is still in play as we sit here on Friday night.

Speaker 1: It is amazing. How will we the vibe shift based

Speaker 1: on a baseball game? One single baseball game March but hey,

Speaker 1: it happened, okay elsewhere we talked about the you know,

Speaker 1: the home runs, but you know Riley. Riley being good

Speaker 1: was encouraging to me. I think that we did talk

Speaker 1: about him a lot this winter, but for folks maybe

Speaker 1: just checking in now. It's not like we're low on

Speaker 1: Riley by any means, but it's worth noting. He just

Speaker 1: hasn't been a superstar level player in the last couple

Speaker 1: of years, and maybe that's injuries. And I got people

Speaker 1: I think maybe they don't don't know me or us.

Speaker 1: What's where today? Like, why you guys still low on rally?

Speaker 1: I'm like, I'm not really. I just think he's obviously good,

Speaker 1: but he just hasn't been all capital letters Austin Rally

Speaker 1: for a while. And one game kind of got supply,

Speaker 1: but he didn't get He did not record an out

Speaker 1: in this game, three for three with a walk, look

Speaker 1: great at the plate. Maybe it's the flowing locks I'm

Speaker 1: a fan of. I'm a fan of of Austin's hair

Speaker 1: choices these days. But another guy where it's like, hey,

Speaker 1: that goes the right direction. I'd feel so much better

Speaker 1: if he was a star versus just like an okay,

Speaker 1: I'm not even okay, like a pretty good third baseman.

Speaker 1: To star is like a meaningful gap for Austin r.

Speaker 1: And I think he can maybe edge forward that star level.

Speaker 1: That'd be really nice.

Speaker 2: You know, the middle of the order tonight for the

Speaker 2: Braves really did a good job. And you mentioned Acunya

Speaker 2: kind of how many times? And has Ronald Acunya Junior

Speaker 2: gone zero for five with three strikeouts in a baseball

Speaker 2: game in his career.

Speaker 1: He didn't look didn't he didn't look right. It's one

Speaker 1: of those things where if if he had been like

Speaker 1: out of side, out of mine in the spring, somebody

Speaker 1: would send off the tweet like what's wrong with Ronald two?

Speaker 1: I mean, he did just leave Venezuela to the World

Speaker 1: Baseball Classic Championship. And I'm not worried about Ronnie at all.

Speaker 1: I'm sure someone is somewhere, but you're right, you don't

Speaker 1: often see him be as kind of like listless as

Speaker 1: he was in this sky. I think he had a

Speaker 1: challenge that he lost along the way as well, I believe.

Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, but I will say no, no, of course not.

Speaker 2: And you know, the middle of the order though, Drake

Speaker 2: Baldwin hit a homer, Ozzie Alby's hit a homer, went

Speaker 2: two for four, Matt Olsen two for four, Austin Riley,

Speaker 2: you mentioned three hits in a walk, Like, the middle

Speaker 2: of the order really did a good job tonight. And

Speaker 2: then you also got some contributions at the bottom. Michael

Speaker 2: Harris had his homer and Mauricio Dubon had kind of

Speaker 2: the hammer in the seventh inning to close it all out.

Speaker 2: After a tough at bat from Eli White, Dubon came

Speaker 2: up and hit a ball to right center field and

Speaker 2: it was awful lefty. And that's something we've talked about

Speaker 2: on the show quite a bit that Mauricio Dubon has

Speaker 2: hit left handed pitching really well throughout his entire career.

Speaker 2: It's the rieties that he generally struggles with. But for

Speaker 2: Dubon to come up after having a couple of opportunities

Speaker 2: earlier in the game where he didn't come through to

Speaker 2: basically put the nail on the coffin and secure the

Speaker 2: wind Braves went up six nothing there. It was really

Speaker 2: big and again it was kind of an everybody eats

Speaker 2: night offensively other than Ronald Acuna Junior. And I mean

Speaker 2: I could not be less worried about Ronald even after

Speaker 2: a tough game tonight.

Speaker 1: Yeah, we were on safe page there. We did briefly

Speaker 1: discuss Ozzie hitting third, and if you have anything to

Speaker 1: add on that, feel free. I think that it might

Speaker 1: just be wi He's almost trying to channel the old

Speaker 1: version of Ozzy, like because if you got the old

Speaker 1: version of Ozzy against lefties, he would be the guy

Speaker 1: I might hit him that spot. So it's not crazy

Speaker 1: process wise. I think that it's a little bit hard

Speaker 1: to look at that lineup with the way Ozzie's been

Speaker 1: the last couple years, but it gains against the lefty.

Speaker 1: They Also, we did preview this quite a bit, both

Speaker 1: US and UH and Sean and Steven. The line up

Speaker 1: iguess lefty. This is always going to be dementure these

Speaker 1: first few weeks. That's just the nature of the way

Speaker 1: that things have broken, and like their big ad that's

Speaker 1: still healthy is Michael Scremsky, who can at lefties. So

Speaker 1: it's like you take him away. Uh, you know you

Speaker 1: don't have Sean Murphy even has sunk Kim like you

Speaker 1: don't have obviously Profar So I get why I look

Speaker 1: it that way, but you look up. I have to

Speaker 1: be honest with you. When the latter came out in

Speaker 1: front of Afternoon, Yes, Ozzie was a takeaway, but it's

Speaker 1: also like, Okay, Eli White is hitting sixth in the lineup,

Speaker 1: Jonah him is playing an opening day. It's just not

Speaker 1: what what you wanted to see. Probably, even if it's

Speaker 1: like it all kind of makes logical sense if you

Speaker 1: go through the lineup one by one. I know Alex

Speaker 1: talked about this today on the radio, where they are

Speaker 1: basically going to try to get Baldwin to play all

Speaker 1: thirteen games in thirteen days, and they basically want to

Speaker 1: target Jonaheim against lefties. That is logical, even if it's

Speaker 1: like you're maybe at the plate, you rather maybe play

Speaker 1: Kyle Farmer against lefty than Jonaheim. If you'll let's if

Speaker 1: it allows you to have Baldwin play every single day.

Speaker 1: That's fine. You know we're gonna see Don Smith at

Speaker 1: some point, maybe even tomorrow. But it's like just I

Speaker 1: don't know. I was processing in real time. Not that

Speaker 1: it was surprising, but it was kind of jarring to

Speaker 1: see that opening day lineup and like, hey, the bottom

Speaker 1: third of this is pretty gross. We kind of know

Speaker 1: that already, but it's also just like it's different to

Speaker 1: just see it in person.

Speaker 2: Oh absolutely, And I think it makes sense now folks

Speaker 2: missed it. You alluded to it. The idea early in

Speaker 2: the year is that Jonaheim is going to hit and

Speaker 2: play be the catcher against left handed pitching, and that

Speaker 2: kind of makes sense to me, and I know there

Speaker 2: was a lot of conversations, so we figured we talk

Speaker 2: about it for a minute on the podcast, but you know,

Speaker 2: against right handed pitching early in the season, I think

Speaker 2: the Braves are going to be fine because you get

Speaker 2: Mikeystremsky in there. Dom Smith has historically hit right handed

Speaker 2: pitching pretty well, but against lefties, especially right now, this

Speaker 2: lineup is going to be pretty funky. And we saw

Speaker 2: it on opening day, and of course on opening day,

Speaker 2: everything gets magnified, Everything gets talked about more than if

Speaker 2: a lineup gets released on July fifth, right, But I

Speaker 2: understand what they're going with and if it means that

Speaker 2: Drake Baldwin is going to be in there basically every day,

Speaker 2: I think it's advantageous to get Jonah Him in there

Speaker 2: to keep Drake a little more fresh. They have a

Speaker 2: night game on Saturday, but then a day game on Sunday,

Speaker 2: so it'll be interesting to see how that kind of

Speaker 2: plays out. They're scheduled to face two righty's the next

Speaker 2: two games. But yeah, I mean this lineup when it

Speaker 2: came out, first of all, it was just good to

Speaker 2: have lineup discourse on Braves Twitter, like everyone is like, yeah, baby,

Speaker 2: we are back. We haven't played a baseball game in

Speaker 2: six months, and people are arguing over, well, why is

Speaker 2: Ozzie hitting third?

Speaker 1: And why is.

Speaker 2: Jonah him in there? And why is Michael Harris batting ninth.

Speaker 2: It was just good to have it back in our lives.

Speaker 2: And of course there was just one game, but well,

Speaker 2: I kind of get the feeling this is gonna be

Speaker 2: what Walt Weiss throws out there for the next couple

Speaker 2: of weeks.

Speaker 1: I agree, And yeah, there's little stuff for sure. You

Speaker 1: know I listened to that. I know you did too,

Speaker 1: that twenty minute interview that Alex did, and he talked

Speaker 1: about the lineup as well, because it came out actually

Speaker 1: before he talked, which was interesting to get the real

Speaker 1: time in between lineup release and game reaction of the

Speaker 1: GM about the lineup on the radio. That's something that

Speaker 1: you don't usually get and that was interesting to me.

Speaker 1: But talked about for example, Michael being comforabdding ninth like

Speaker 1: they like his speed down there, at least that's what

Speaker 1: he said about weisslacking his speed. And also, look, Harris

Speaker 1: gets lefties. Is not been great for a long while,

Speaker 1: so that's not a huge surprise to me. The heime

Speaker 1: thing makes sense if you look at it a little

Speaker 1: bit more. I didn't love it at first. I do

Speaker 1: think that like Kyle Farmer is just better than Jonah

Speaker 1: him at pitting left handedst leeftendant pitchers. But I also

Speaker 1: get the the reaction and ramifications and it does it

Speaker 1: seem like from what Alex said again that they really

Speaker 1: are like centering on Dom Smith as our DH against

Speaker 1: Righty's like full stop. Like he pretty much said that,

Speaker 1: So if you're gonna go with that. Maybe Farmer is

Speaker 1: just a pure utility guy right now, like they do

Speaker 1: bonds to shortstop, so they like Farmer just becomes the

Speaker 1: utility guy, which is fine and all makes logical sense

Speaker 1: to me. I still will have the reaction I had

Speaker 1: at whatever time it was this afternoon about this lineup,

Speaker 1: but hey, it works, and when they face the riot tomorrow,

Speaker 1: it's gonna feel better. I think Michael Scrumsky's name on

Speaker 1: a lineup card will make me feel better because he

Speaker 1: is baber Ruth after all. But he's just a better

Speaker 1: player than some of these guys. And that was the

Speaker 1: plane all along, so it'll feel better than in the

Speaker 1: meantime TBD. But they scored runs today, so no complaints.

Speaker 1: I will just always say, if you're new to the pod,

Speaker 1: we do like to talk about process over results. Like

Speaker 1: I'm not saying that Ozzi should hit that should have

Speaker 1: hit third in this game because he hit a home

Speaker 1: run today, Like maybe maybe Scott will say that on

Speaker 1: the podcast, but it worked today. Hey, kudos, it works.

Speaker 2: Hey, if you win games, what else, that's all it matters,

Speaker 2: doesn't matter.

Speaker 1: Yeah, who cares?

Speaker 2: How you know what they could hit Ronald Coccuna Junior ninth.

Speaker 2: If the Braves win one hundred games this year, I

Speaker 2: really don't care.

Speaker 1: I do like that was bait. I'm baiting you on

Speaker 1: opening or a crash out on Friday night. That's like,

Speaker 1: I'm not going to do that. If Ronnie hits seventh again,

Speaker 1: at any point, I'm gonna have to leave the podcast. Okay, Scott,

Speaker 1: we have more to get to including honestly, you and

Speaker 1: I ever give our predictions about the season, and we've

Speaker 1: already seen one games. We can sheet a little bit

Speaker 1: with less than one percent of the season done, but

Speaker 1: we'll give those in a moment and then also preview

Speaker 1: the rest of the weekend for the Braves after a

Speaker 1: word from our partners.

Speaker 4: Hey, if you hit the age where everything feels a

Speaker 4: little bit more difficult the Jim yes, but everything like

Speaker 4: energy crashes in the afternoon.

Speaker 3: You know, you might have been reading about low tee

Speaker 3: and you see your doctor about it and they want

Speaker 3: to give you basically shots every week for the rest

Speaker 3: of your life. Oh cool, that sounds fun. And then

Speaker 3: you dig deeper and you realize what you're signing up for,

Speaker 3: and it's three grand a year to shut down to

Speaker 3: your body's natural production forever.

Speaker 1: That is brutal.

Speaker 4: Mars Men gives you the same benefits of optimized testosterone energy, strength, focus,

Speaker 4: without shutting your body down. No synthetics, no needles, no dependencies.

Speaker 4: It's like hitting the reset button on your hormone factory

Speaker 4: instead of shutting it down.

Speaker 1: For a limited time.

Speaker 3: Our listeners get fifty percent off for it life, plus

Speaker 3: free shipping and three free gifts that men go to

Speaker 3: Mars dot com. That's men go to Mars dot com

Speaker 3: for fifty percent off and three free gifts when you

Speaker 3: check out after you purchase, they're going to ask you

Speaker 3: where you heard about them. Please support our show and

Speaker 3: tell them we sent you.

Speaker 1: All right, Scott, Before we look ahead to the rest

Speaker 1: of the weekend and get out of here on a

Speaker 1: Friday nights, we should at least get on the record

Speaker 1: our predictions. Often we would have done like a show

Speaker 1: of this with with us, but you know, see when

Speaker 1: and Sean gave some of theirs. The way the way

Speaker 1: the calendar felt opening day, I hated it. By the way,

Speaker 1: while we're here, I hated that the rains we're not

Speaker 1: playing on Thursday. Hated it, like thirty five percent of

Speaker 1: the league is playing, everyone's getting underway, everybody's fired up.

Speaker 1: Seeing all the tweets, I'm like, oh, the Braces will

Speaker 1: play on tomorrow. That's that's not you know, it's weird.

Speaker 2: The Raids were originally supposed to open the season on Thursday,

Speaker 2: and then the date moved, so I don't know if

Speaker 2: that was TV network related or I don't know if

Speaker 2: maybe there was another event in the area and they

Speaker 2: were worried about traffic. I have no idea, but anyway, yeah.

Speaker 1: I agree, it was imagine that. I'd be funny that

Speaker 1: was the reason in Atlanta, where traffic is just a

Speaker 1: disaster every single day in my life. But right, no,

Speaker 1: I'm with you. I remember that that same thing, and

Speaker 1: I'm I'm poking fun I also know that in the

Speaker 1: past we've discussed how annoying it is to have the

Speaker 1: second day of a season be it off day. That's

Speaker 1: not the case this time around. That's the that's that's

Speaker 1: the trade off. We had to wait it extra day.

Speaker 1: But now they have a game every day for two weeks,

Speaker 1: so we'll get baseball plenty. What that said, I want

Speaker 1: to know what you think of this baseball team. Now again,

Speaker 1: we have the opportunity to cheat a little bit, they're

Speaker 1: want to. Oh, I did not change my predictions. In fact,

Speaker 1: I wrote I wrote them down on the dock before

Speaker 1: the game today, so I wouldn't cheat. In fact, when

Speaker 1: you hear my one player prediction, you're gonna laugh based

Speaker 1: on what happened today. With that said, I will let

Speaker 1: you fire off as many as you want to Scott predictions,

Speaker 1: anything you want to get out there, and then tell

Speaker 1: me your National League East finishing order, and of course

Speaker 1: how many wins the Brave might get by the end

Speaker 1: of the year plus one from today.

Speaker 2: So if I had to pick one bold prediction, I'm

Speaker 2: gonna say that Austin Riley finishes top five in NL MVP.

Speaker 1: Oh baby, it just.

Speaker 2: Feels like assuming he can stay healthy and Austin was

Speaker 2: iron Man up until the last two years. But I

Speaker 2: would say that Austin Riley receives top five votes in

Speaker 2: National League MVP. I'm gonna say he gets back to mashing.

Speaker 2: I'm gonna say he flirts with forty home runs, drives

Speaker 2: in a million runs. Like I just feel really good

Speaker 2: about Austin. Maybe it's the luscious locks that he has

Speaker 2: grown out. Maybe it was the fact that he just

Speaker 2: crushed the ball in spring training and even before today

Speaker 2: getting on base four times was a great sign. But

Speaker 2: I'm very optimistic in bullish on Austin this upcoming season.

Speaker 2: Call it a hunch, call it a bounce back from

Speaker 2: a really talented player, but I'm all in on Austin

Speaker 2: Riley in twenty twenty six.

Speaker 1: And that's not crazy. I think people might think that's high,

Speaker 1: but Austin once had three straight seasons where he finished seventh, sixth,

Speaker 1: and seventh in MVP voting, so like he's showing that

Speaker 1: kind of upside in the past, so that's very realistic.

Speaker 1: I have two. One is a quicker one doesn't want

Speaker 1: to have like a number attached. I think Michael Harris

Speaker 1: is going to have like a true bounce back season,

Speaker 1: and I'm you know, I saw a thirty thirty out there.

Speaker 1: I'm not going with that necessarily. I think Michael Harris

Speaker 1: is gonna have like a one ten w RC plus,

Speaker 1: which may not sound sexy, but that's like a five

Speaker 1: win player.

Speaker 2: I was gonna say, yeah, that's gonna be one of

Speaker 2: the most valuable players in baseball if he can do that.

Speaker 1: I think he's gonna do. That's kind of a kind

Speaker 1: of a bold shot, and I wouldn't like bet on

Speaker 1: that happening like one one B one, but I think

Speaker 1: that's that's in there. And then my more conventional one

Speaker 1: is the final one from earlier. Ron Akunya is the

Speaker 1: last person to win n L m VP that's not

Speaker 1: an actual alien, which is Shoyotani. I think he's gonna

Speaker 1: do it again. I think Ronnie, despite the oh for

Speaker 1: five today, is going to win nationally nationallygue MVP, and

Speaker 1: he will. If he does it, that'll be two in

Speaker 1: four years. And uh Otani, by the way, has one.

Speaker 1: I believe if you go back to the American League,

Speaker 1: I think he's won four of the last five he

Speaker 1: was eligible for and the other one he didn't win

Speaker 1: was second to Aaron Judge. So it's kind of hard

Speaker 1: to beat Otanian MVP race, which is why this is

Speaker 1: kind of bold. But I think Ronnie is like maybe

Speaker 1: the only player in the National League who has the

Speaker 1: upside to be show Tommy and an MVP race. Yeah,

Speaker 1: so cold shot.

Speaker 2: Anyway, you know what if we get an MVP season

Speaker 2: from Ronald and we get a top five MVP season,

Speaker 2: from Austin Riley, like we're cooking with gain.

Speaker 1: Well, it's funny if you go through like the high

Speaker 1: and outcome of everyone. I thought about giving an Ozzie

Speaker 1: bounce back prediction because I think it's gonna be better

Speaker 1: this year. You just gave the Riley prediction. I think

Speaker 1: matt Olsen is like hard to go like high upside with,

Speaker 1: but matt Olsen is like awesome and everyone kind of

Speaker 1: knows that now. I think, hopefully if if all that

Speaker 1: stuff comes up, I mean, Drake Baldwin following it up, like,

Speaker 1: there's a lot of pathways to them being really good

Speaker 1: and some of those we just talked about. But I

Speaker 1: don't want to go to to too crazy with the

Speaker 1: optimism despite one game. Okay, let's go nationally East order,

Speaker 1: do you have one at the ready? I do?

Speaker 2: I do, And I'm gonna say this with my heart,

Speaker 2: I really do think and my he two. But I

Speaker 2: think the Raids are going to bounce back. I don't

Speaker 2: think we are going to have another just awful year

Speaker 2: like we had last season. That being said, I am

Speaker 2: very concerned about the starting rotation, like full stop if

Speaker 2: ten is as concerned as I can humanly be and

Speaker 2: one is not a care in the world. I'm I'm

Speaker 2: already at like a seven and we've played one game.

Speaker 1: I almost asked you earlier in the show to react

Speaker 1: to Alex's first answer today on six a eighty of

Speaker 1: the Fan about the rotation, but I didn't want to

Speaker 1: send you spiraling early in the podcast not related enough

Speaker 1: from I'm kind of asking you about it right now,

Speaker 1: but I'm I'm with you, by the way on the rotation.

Speaker 1: We've been play our hair out for a little while

Speaker 1: now about that, and I think that answered it. It

Speaker 1: did not help Scott process things. If you missed it.

Speaker 1: Alex kind of downplayed all those things that he's said before, basically,

Speaker 1: but it was like, all right, man, cool, Yeah, we

Speaker 1: felt good about our rotation.

Speaker 2: Depth and the start of the offseason and we didn't

Speaker 2: expect there to be injuries and yeah, if you want

Speaker 2: to listen, I think it was six' eighty The fan

Speaker 2: Where alex talked for about twenty, minutes AND i, mean

Speaker 2: he says a whole lot of. Nothing he is very

Speaker 2: good at talking for twenty minutes and not actually saying.

Speaker 2: Anything BUT i digress to answer the. QUESTION i think

Speaker 2: The braves are going to bounce. Back, Unfortunately i'm really

Speaker 2: high on The, mets which just feels awful to say

Speaker 2: out loud on a. Podcast but If i'm trying to

Speaker 2: be at least somewhat, OBJECTIVE i will officially predict that

Speaker 2: The mets win The east by a game or. TWO

Speaker 2: i will say The braves take, second AND i do

Speaker 2: worry a bit about The phillies and their. Age they

Speaker 2: are really getting up. There i'll say The phillies finished,

Speaker 2: third BUT i think all THREE Nl east teams make

Speaker 2: the playoffs this.

Speaker 1: Year, YEAH i actually think this might be kind of.

Speaker 1: HOT i Think i'll get a similar to. YOU i

Speaker 1: THINK i might pick The phillies to miss the playoffs,

Speaker 1: narrowly like they probably would make, it but like they

Speaker 1: might be like the like the sixth, seed seven, seed

Speaker 1: kind of like they're they're on the they're on the

Speaker 1: they're on the. Fringe, MAN I i've Just i've been

Speaker 1: thinking about this all day. Long if you asked me

Speaker 1: a month, AGO i would have said up picking the

Speaker 1: race to win The National eeast me. Too it's. Hard

Speaker 1: it's harder to do that now with what we know about.

Speaker 1: Everything profar and. That profar and the and the pitching.

Speaker 1: Injuries we we kind of knew we've a month. Ago

Speaker 1: we knew About, murphy we knew About. Kim we did

Speaker 1: not Have profi or the pitching. Stuff that, combination combined

Speaker 1: with not doing anything else yet to add to the. Team,

Speaker 1: MAN i THINK i still might take The. Braves Maybe

Speaker 1: i'll be the homer every once in a. While i'm

Speaker 1: not usually the homer on the. Podcast i'll do. It

Speaker 1: i'll do. It But i'm also gonna say it's like

Speaker 1: an like an eighty nine to ninety win division. WINNER i,

Speaker 1: THINK i think The i'm not picking The braves to

Speaker 1: win ninety seven games LIKE i have at times in the.

Speaker 1: PAST i don't feel that it's, possible very, Possible BUT

Speaker 1: i wouldn't pick, that nor DO i think that's like

Speaker 1: reasonable to. Pick i'm gonna, say and look the the betting, Markets,

Speaker 1: fangraft et. Cetera all have The, Braves, phillies And mets

Speaker 1: within like two or three. Games so it's like supposed

Speaker 1: to be a tight race between those three teams for

Speaker 1: a good. Reason i'll Go, Braves, Mets phillies in that.

Speaker 1: Order AND i, say maybe my boulder prediction is that

Speaker 1: no one wins more than ninety in The National. EAST

Speaker 1: i think we get like a almost like a three

Speaker 1: way race the whole, time but like they all finish

Speaker 1: between like eighty five and ninety at the, end so

Speaker 1: there's no. Separation it'd be, fun it also be. Terrifying

Speaker 1: it'd like be a lot of tense games late this.

Speaker 1: Season Then i'll, Go i'll Go, Braves, Mets. PHILLIES i

Speaker 1: tend to pick The mets, too but we can't both

Speaker 1: have The mets that, now, guess no, Way i'll take

Speaker 1: them on this. One on, total do you have A, SCOTT.

Speaker 2: I will say The braves win eighty nine games and

Speaker 2: they are the number one wild.

Speaker 1: Card i'll say ninety flat and a one game division

Speaker 1: win over The. Mets so we're pretty much the exact.

Speaker 1: Same But i'm just gonna sound cooler to the homers around,

Speaker 1: us so you know, what you, know you don't have

Speaker 1: to see people in the wild LIKE i cover games

Speaker 1: in person and people yell at me a home with The.

Speaker 1: Braves i'm.

Speaker 2: Kidding the eternal, optimist never wavering in his support of

Speaker 2: his fandom for his.

Speaker 1: Team so it really is so funny people that we

Speaker 1: might have some new people, tonight but especially in the

Speaker 1: last year and a. Half this is not unique to this.

Speaker 1: Situation Have this is WHEN i cover The hawks as.

Speaker 1: Well when the team doesn't do, WELL i get accused

Speaker 1: of being super high homework. Guy when the team does,

Speaker 1: WELL i hate the team And i'm too low on the,

Speaker 1: team which which is. Interesting i'm just SAY i don't

Speaker 1: Think alexanthopolis is the dumbest person, alive unlike my mentions

Speaker 1: every single. Day for, example NOW i have my, qualms

Speaker 1: we shared them on this podcast.

Speaker 2: Already he, ANYWAY i agree that's a great way to put.

Speaker 2: IT i do not think That Alex nthopolis is the

Speaker 2: dumbest person on. Earth BUT i do think he has

Speaker 2: maybe lost a couple of miles on his fastball and

Speaker 2: he's having to figure some things, out or there could

Speaker 2: be some real.

Speaker 1: Problems, YEAH i think it is very. Reasonable in, fact

Speaker 1: again we've given many a critique this, winter so we

Speaker 1: were not like pomp pumming For alex this. Winter in,

Speaker 1: fact we're not on this. PODCAST i think it's very

Speaker 1: reasonable to be lower on him right now than people

Speaker 1: have been in the. PAST i also think it's fair

Speaker 1: to say he's not a, buffoon AND i think he's

Speaker 1: been characterized that way in slip. Circles, anyway that was

Speaker 1: just an example of my too high to low thing around.

Speaker 1: Here so unless you have more, Predictions, scott we can

Speaker 1: we start getting out of. Here The braves have two

Speaker 1: more games we're recording This friday, night two gour games this.

Speaker 1: Weekend oh, QUICKLY i, forgot and so right. Now shouts

Speaker 1: To Jason, hayward who retired Today brave's. LEGEND i gotta,

Speaker 1: say one of my personal favorite. PLAYERS i know he

Speaker 1: was to some. DISAPPOINTING i, MEAN i get. It he

Speaker 1: was supposed to be Like Hank aaron and he, wasn't

Speaker 1: and that's, fine but he also had a heck of

Speaker 1: a career and was also very good for a long.

Speaker 1: Time like to call that guy a, bust WHICH i

Speaker 1: saw even, Today i'd be, like, oh what a Bus i'm,

Speaker 1: like are you? Kidding? No, stop don't do. That great. Career,

Speaker 1: great great guy by the, way by all accounts like

Speaker 1: an awesome. GUY i Love jay and shouts to him

Speaker 1: on a nice.

Speaker 2: Career one of the coolest moments In braves in Recent

Speaker 2: braves history Was jason hayward first game of his. Career opening,

Speaker 2: day Turner field is going, crazy and what does he

Speaker 2: do as one of the most hyped prospects in years

Speaker 2: but launches like a four hundred and thirty foot home

Speaker 2: run into the. Bullpen Turner field went. NUTS i, know

Speaker 2: people who were there say it was one of like

Speaker 2: the three or four loudest moments they ever heard at that.

Speaker 2: Stadium just and also an all time call By Chip,

Speaker 2: carrey which is funny because you, KNOW i Think chip

Speaker 2: has a maybe isn't the everyone's favorite, Announcer But chip

Speaker 2: nailed the. CALL i, mean it was just an awesome

Speaker 2: moment and very happy For. Jason he made a boatload of.

Speaker 2: Money he is a beloved hero In chicago because he

Speaker 2: had like the famous mid inning speech that kind of

Speaker 2: rallied The cubs after they were almost on the brink

Speaker 2: of blowing The World. Series like just a really good

Speaker 2: career and, sure when you're annoyed as the Next Hank

Speaker 2: aaron at age, nineteen age, twenty it's impossible to live

Speaker 2: up to. That it, like the expectations could not be.

Speaker 2: Higher it was such a fricking shame that he had

Speaker 2: the wrist injury a couple of years into his. Career

Speaker 2: he also got hit in the face by a fastball

Speaker 2: a little bit later in his. CAREER i can only

Speaker 2: imagine what that does to your. PSYCHE a player who

Speaker 2: had some really bad injuries for a hit or but

Speaker 2: really happy For jason went Out World series ring boatload of.

Speaker 2: Money as you, said, well, liked, well revered in the,

Speaker 2: clubhouse a leader in the last couple of. Years, like

Speaker 2: congrats To. JASON i hope you have a nice.

Speaker 1: Retirement, yeah for. Sure awesome. Career by the, way five

Speaker 1: Tycle Go glover wasn't all star, like just was a great,

Speaker 1: Player so shouts to. Him The brace play On saturday

Speaker 1: all odds On ronaldo's. Velocity, obviously if you've been following this,

Speaker 1: closely he had a huge tickdown and velocity in this

Speaker 1: Final spring start to the point where everyone's acknowledging, it

Speaker 1: Even alex that he met With ronaldo after, all because

Speaker 1: he was, like what's going. On everyone's saying the right.

Speaker 1: THINGS i have to see, it So i'm gonna have

Speaker 1: to see him throw n ninety four to ninety five.
