[SPEAKER_01]: This is Small Screen Sessions, a podcast about television series.
[SPEAKER_01]: Pantheon, season one, episode eight.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's today's episode.
[SPEAKER_01]: The gods will not be slain.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm Stephen, and my avatars, a stargazing ASMR ranger with the set curiosity, but not the temperament of Jean-Beth T. Scun-Wee from the novel slash movie perfume.
[SPEAKER_01]: Travis Hernandez, you must stop!
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god, I'm sorry.
[SPEAKER_01]: And Travis Hernandez, are ready to introduce their RPG
[SPEAKER_01]: proceed.
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh-huh.
[SPEAKER_01]: Fine.
[SPEAKER_04]: It's a time-in humanoid eating ramen.
[SPEAKER_04]: Gyoza.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh.
[SPEAKER_00]: Ah, this is putting me on the spot.
[SPEAKER_04]: It was a payment.
[SPEAKER_04]: It's a time-in or payment.
[SPEAKER_04]: What do you call those little alligator things?
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, I call him Cayman, but this character, because this is pronounced Cayman in the show in Japanese, I would say Cayman for the character.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, Cayman is a Cayman for the right answer.
[SPEAKER_00]: I want to be a sparkly jellyfish.
[SPEAKER_01]: Ooh.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, wow.
[SPEAKER_01]: Awesome.
[SPEAKER_01]: I was going to assume something, uh, you know, Nordic liking maybe.
[SPEAKER_01]: She went in the mountains.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's good.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't know.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
[SPEAKER_00]: You're talking about low.
[SPEAKER_01]: creature so It's funny because I also thought Travis would be a miniature or like a barbarian miniature.
[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, well, if I really had time to think about you You've got to lighten your shit out.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's I had point two seconds to come up with that Exactly You know, I was going to bring up some Viking shit later in the episode, so that's what I might as well do it now
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, sure.
[SPEAKER_00]: The G.I.
[SPEAKER_00]: Joe guy who are like with the red hair and beard offers some cardamom cocoa and I thought it was a fantastic little touch because cardamom is such a popular flavor in Scandinavia.
[SPEAKER_00]: The Vikings brought it, but they love it.
[SPEAKER_00]: They have buns.
[SPEAKER_00]: They put it in
[SPEAKER_01]: Love it.
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, small screen stations are Gmail.com, which is a whole free telephone number.
[SPEAKER_01]: And we don't have any emails today, so it's time for trivia, name or edition, time to talk, self-mariner movies.
[SPEAKER_00]: Ooh, sub-mariner movies, so many things that take place in the ocean.
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_04]: Wait, I thought I would literally name more of the submarine, so we're talking in Wakanda forever and we're not a forever.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's right.
[SPEAKER_01]: Movies with a submarine involved.
[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll start out with, in this 2020 film, co-written by and starring Tom Hanks, an inexperienced, we're brand new.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's Navy Commander, nailed it.
[SPEAKER_01]: And it also stars a little shoe and Steven Manix Graham.
[SPEAKER_01]: Mm-hmm.
[SPEAKER_00]: Wait, Elizabeth Shoe was starring in a movie in 2020.
[SPEAKER_00]: I kind of like that.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's cool.
[SPEAKER_00]: Good for her.
[SPEAKER_01]: She plays his wife.
[SPEAKER_01]: This 2014 Kevin McDonald films starring Jude Law, Ben Medelson, and Cody's voice actor, Scoot McNairi, is about a submarine captain, what takes the job with the shadowy battered asserts the depths of the titular body of water for submarine rumored to be loaded with gold in order to make good with his former employers.
[SPEAKER_00]: I know that Ben Mendelssohn's probably the bad guy, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: Actually, every side.
[SPEAKER_01]: Just name a body of water.
[SPEAKER_01]: Pacific.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's not it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Atlantic.
[SPEAKER_00]: Pain control.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's called Black Sea.
[SPEAKER_00]: The Black Sea.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: We've got there immensely, I guess.
[SPEAKER_01]: uh... in this film from the year two thousand story uh... i love that i have the chorus it stars uh... mathy macrona built-packs didn't harvey kaitel and john bond joe v oh uh... uh... in the film can nineteen the widow maker that's the uh... Harrison Ford one you five seven one
[SPEAKER_01]: That's it.
[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
[SPEAKER_01]: A German submarine is bordered by disguised Americans.
[SPEAKER_01]: Submariner's attempting to capture their nickname, a Cypher machine.
[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, well, okay.
[SPEAKER_04]: Never caught that one.
[SPEAKER_04]: I worked a blockbuster when it came out, so.
[SPEAKER_04]: There you go.
[SPEAKER_01]: This 2016 Mario van People's film depicts an American World War II vessel sunk by a Japanese submarine leaving 890 crewmen stranded in shark-infested waters.
[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, that's not the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indianapolis or the Indian
[SPEAKER_04]: course.
[SPEAKER_04]: He's really, he's really straight-laced in that one.
[SPEAKER_04]: He's like, really, it's like, there's no, there's no wild, despite it being like a direct, you know, red box kind of movie, it's, he's really coming, play it pretty straight on that one.
[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
[SPEAKER_01]: In this 1996 comedy, Kelsey Grammar stars his lieutenant commander, Tom Down Periscope.
[SPEAKER_04]: Oh.
[SPEAKER_04]: Sorry, I really prevented it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Remember that wouldn't fly it off the shelves when we were into Blackbusters.
[SPEAKER_01]: People who love the shit out and down, the airs go, is like this fucking turn.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, not good, you know.
[SPEAKER_00]: Um, hunt for Red October.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's, that's the go with, and I'm just gonna name any movie you can think of with a submarine, that one, that's the one.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's when you've been involved.
[SPEAKER_01]: I was trying to, I was trying to avoid the obvious ones.
[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, absolutely.
[SPEAKER_01]: I was trying to avoid the obvious ones.
[SPEAKER_04]: Uh, under siege two, I believe, but wait, no, that's not a train.
[SPEAKER_04]: That's not a train.
[SPEAKER_04]: Dark territory.
[SPEAKER_04]: I'm mistaken.
[SPEAKER_00]: What's the, uh, I don't know if it's a submarine, but the Steve Zoo Zoo zoo.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like the aquatic.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they have one there.
[SPEAKER_04]: Submariner's anyways.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're living underground underwater.
[SPEAKER_04]: yellow submarine, it's a submarine, they have both, I believe, there's a little submarine that breaks off from like their C-Lab 2020 or whatever the fuck it was called, it could be anything.
[SPEAKER_04]: Was that the name of that show?
[SPEAKER_04]: C-Lab 20 something, was it?
[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was, yeah.
[SPEAKER_04]: 2020?
[SPEAKER_04]: Is that all the questions?
[SPEAKER_04]: Are we done with this?
[SPEAKER_04]: What's that?
[SPEAKER_04]: That's it.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's it.
[SPEAKER_02]: Great.
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, that's a good.
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, good job.
[SPEAKER_04]: All right.
[SPEAKER_04]: Well, good job.
[SPEAKER_01]: Me, I guess.
[SPEAKER_01]: I got them all, didn't they?
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, no.
[SPEAKER_01]: I got one wrong.
[SPEAKER_01]: I got one wrong.
[SPEAKER_01]: I got one wrong.
[SPEAKER_04]: You took good.
[SPEAKER_01]: And Black Sea is kind of obscure, I think.
[SPEAKER_01]: Hmm.
[SPEAKER_01]: So we open with Josephine Cooper, mother, too.
[SPEAKER_01]: She's answering NASA's call to fulfill one of six roles in one way mission of Mars.
[SPEAKER_01]: NASA has declined to comment when asked why they considered candidates with families and atherosclerosis in a ponchoant for wingsuit thrill chasing.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's because her commodifiable, exploitable attributes may join a deal candid to be uploaded.
[SPEAKER_01]: And she is willing to play the role for a chance to manifest her lofty ambitions.
[SPEAKER_04]: uh... waxing more into the zero-day flow she outlines her philosophy of get well the get-and-good has indicated by her cv uh... what's going on with this lady there's a lot they pack a lot in here it's really old i think to to start the uh... season finale with the introduction of a new character to make that to make that the intro to your episode let's pretty cool
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it was good though, they, it clocked went fast.
[SPEAKER_04]: Hmm.
[SPEAKER_04]: It was interesting.
[SPEAKER_00]: They got a lot in.
[SPEAKER_00]: It was interesting.
[SPEAKER_00]: There was a lot of depth and a short amount of time that's hard to do.
[SPEAKER_04]: We learned a lot about this woman that every, everything that matters to her is like you said her ambition.
[SPEAKER_04]: That is.
[SPEAKER_04]: Like, everything else is just very, very incidental in her life.
[SPEAKER_04]: I can't see it as cramped amount, whatever.
[SPEAKER_04]: I'm going to do it on a new place.
[SPEAKER_00]: And let's, I just, I am so torn about this.
[SPEAKER_00]: To be like, why did you have kids?
[SPEAKER_00]: Why did you have kids?
[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe because you didn't know what you were going to, I don't know.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
[SPEAKER_04]: Based on the conversation that her and her husband have, it literally seems like,
[SPEAKER_04]: Just in case, my dreams don't come true.
[SPEAKER_04]: The writers will have this conventional life, but you can only be with me with the understanding that I'm gonna bail on you if the opportunity arises.
[SPEAKER_04]: And the guys like, well, I'm a beta cook, so cool.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, she was up front about it.
[SPEAKER_00]: It seems like, yes.
[SPEAKER_00]: I know.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's hard because I don't want to be another woman being like, I'm all judging about this woman's desire to put herself in her career over a children.
[SPEAKER_00]: How dare she.
[SPEAKER_04]: But we've seen the character as a man in many other films.
[SPEAKER_04]: She's always a dick.
[SPEAKER_04]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_04]: It's never like it's okay when it's him.
[SPEAKER_04]: we might follow the character and still like you know he's like a Odysseus type like flawed dude who left his family to to advance here or whatever like maybe a lot interstellar or something but still like there's never a scenario where it's cool to leave your whole family to go do his thing unless you're kind of like forcing it to save someone's life like in interstellar
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I mean, this is very timely as I have been watching a lot of stuff with Artemis two mission around the moon and there's these people who are for people on this in this little pod.
[SPEAKER_00]: They have kids.
[SPEAKER_00]: They left.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, yeah, but they're coming back.
[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, presumably.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, there's always a risk, but there's always, there's a risk driving to work in your office job too.
[SPEAKER_04]: Very similar.
[SPEAKER_04]: My, my 10 minute drive to work and the exact same thing is going further than any human who's ever gone into space before.
[SPEAKER_00]: Ah, so it was very timely as I was really into it.
[SPEAKER_00]: I've been into the space mission and yeah, I'm going to turn about it about this lady.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then she turns into like Monica Rambo.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, whoa.
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_04]: I like that.
[SPEAKER_04]: I approve.
[SPEAKER_00]: I thought you'd appreciate it.
[SPEAKER_01]: I did.
[SPEAKER_01]: Her last request is for her virtual environment to be set on Mars.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, except without the lethality of the atmosphere and the regular Earth and the radiation of course.
[SPEAKER_00]: Of course.
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_04]: I want to be the same for the rest of my life on this planet.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: title card and roll the credits and Maddie's monitoring world chaos from her desktop.
[SPEAKER_01]: Admiral Aaron Eckhart Kurtz of the NSA, that's his voice again.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, not answer and news anchors prompt to explain the sudden rise of cyber attacks.
[SPEAKER_01]: Maddie's eyes narrow.
[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe she's endured too many similar videos.
[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe she's getting sleepy or she's just too tired of it all.
[SPEAKER_01]: Caspian calls her right at that moment, she's surprised.
[SPEAKER_01]: Caspian, she quickly questions, then gathering herself, reverts back to class at Curious Maddie, where are you, without any judgment in her voice?
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, Caspian says he's in Kansas City.
[SPEAKER_01]: His voice is elevated.
[SPEAKER_01]: He says he's sorry about how he left things and that he appreciates the Kim family trying to help.
[SPEAKER_01]: and Kasfian like his own absenteenetic father wants to repay the cams and currency so he can continue to be absent of pursuers own interests like a real libertarian shithead.
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, he really goes around the bend in this episode, he's like, all right, I guess I've, I am Stephen, sure.
[SPEAKER_04]: So, I mean, don't get me wrong.
[SPEAKER_04]: If someone gifted me $30 million, I would be thrilled.
[SPEAKER_04]: But on the other hand, it does seem like there's societal collapse happening at the same time.
[SPEAKER_04]: Uh, what's the, you're like, okay, I can use that money and maybe try and survive, but it may be worthless in a couple weeks.
[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be hard to train, train Bitcoin for food.
[SPEAKER_00]: Points?
[SPEAKER_00]: The points that he makes to her is like, it's more than just you.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's more than just your dad, the whole world.
[SPEAKER_00]: I got to do something.
[SPEAKER_04]: That's a really good point.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's very right.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's there.
[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, he transmits the key to a $30 million Bitcoin well, to Maddie, not because he has nothing to lose, like he wants to present, because that's pocket change to the new Cold Leader of Loggerums.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the 58,365.75 Bitcoin Caspian drops on Maddie is currently valued at over 4 billion as opposed to the $30 million in the show.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, whoa.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, good.
[SPEAKER_01]: Caspy and Intense to shut down logarithms U.I.
[SPEAKER_01]: division and bleed Pope for more money.
[SPEAKER_01]: He wants Maddie to act as a fail-safe against possible extortion.
[SPEAKER_01]: Maddie makes their intentions clear.
[SPEAKER_01]: What makes you think I'd give a shit?
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, all I care about is my dad.
[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
[SPEAKER_01]: All she wants is the fix for the Zero Day flaw.
[SPEAKER_01]: But for Caspy and the flaws of feature and not a bug, he wants to allow the U.S. to burn
[SPEAKER_01]: and Maddie is doubly insulted.
[SPEAKER_01]: Cast me in threatens her dad, and once her daughter holds the huge U.I.
[SPEAKER_01]: leverage bag for him.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, Caspian pleads with Matty, like, oh, this is a new source and like I've done all the times since the show started, because hey, I donate a virtual currency, emulating the Bill Gates model of here's some billions with no conditions publicly.
[SPEAKER_01]: Primantly, there will be some conditions, such as Bill Gates asking Jeffery S.B., Epstein for the best method to dose Melinda for an STI after Bill contracted in the aerial disease from a minor, allegedly.
[SPEAKER_04]: She refutes that she says it's not true, and you know, if she says it's not true.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, likewise, Maddie detects the selfish injuries of Cassian, refutes his philanthropy and quotes his clone pop a holster.
[SPEAKER_01]: Right, refaying the goals of others so that they align with your own.
[SPEAKER_01]: cast fiends on where are the quotation?
[SPEAKER_01]: And Matty is just accusing him of displaying the same tendencies of the father of UI that cast fiend claims to reject.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's a fucking poser.
[SPEAKER_00]: But this isn't like that, though.
[SPEAKER_04]: He doesn't like it, but it's probably one of the things that pushes him around the bend in this episode.
[SPEAKER_04]: Because you started to be like, oh, well, what they did worked.
[SPEAKER_04]: They made me him.
[SPEAKER_01]: You cry, I've been him.
[SPEAKER_01]: and Maddie hangs up on him.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, he just retreats back to his private jet.
[SPEAKER_01]: Ellen checks in on Maddie just as she sends it, just as she ends the call.
[SPEAKER_01]: And on tell you all that mom timing is real.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_01]: Ellen Maddie, what to provide some sort of closure for Cody by staging a burial of Lori's earrings.
[SPEAKER_01]: Cody's instinct is to lash out.
[SPEAKER_01]: Ellen pushes back lately saying he never had time to dream before Lori's UI was up and running.
[SPEAKER_01]: Ellen asks Cody to honor Lori and his own grief.
[SPEAKER_01]: Cody retorts, so you'd like to honor Lori by going to the press, as she had attended.
[SPEAKER_01]: Maddy causes the outing the UIs may just amplify the chaos.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this is when Cody mocks Maddy, like Richard Drive is mocks the fisherman and goss.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're all going to die.
[SPEAKER_01]: And Ellen activates daughter protection mode and plants some y-tiny to Cody's scrody.
[SPEAKER_00]: Which yeah, god damn, first I was kind of like side eye to her for like pressuring him to grieve in the way that she thinks is appropriate.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then he is a total dick face to a child.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, deserve that knee.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, he did.
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, the Cody Vows to tell Lori story.
[SPEAKER_01]: and then we see Chanda, he's infiltrating a military satellite.
[SPEAKER_01]: His avatar is extra arms Lord Vishnu style.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
[SPEAKER_04]: Looking really, he's really hot with all that extra hair.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's gotten a glow up.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: He establishes a link with the extremely low transmission facility of Indian Southern Naval Command, communicate with the submarine operating in the Indian Ocean.
[SPEAKER_01]: Chanda monitors the Indian Airs monitoring the traffic spike
[SPEAKER_01]: uh... chandisins feel is out to the rain of winter uivers to locate the tiniest triumphant and makes a grand interest uh... bringing along some of his work virtual reality into theirs uh... the hbic still having no chanda but her sub-revolt degree to listen chanda has stolen the nuclear codes to india's first nuclear ballistic missile submarine well boy yeah
[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm like part of me is watching this and I'm like oh shit we're already here like we're already playing around with the nukes Exactly It goes pretty fast in the you like the world And of course it would be him.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, of course So Caspy gets to the Chiappa to visit the doom cube get down Get out of the job Stop it
[SPEAKER_01]: And this is a main little moment when the onc and offers caspians in the hot cocoa, while correcting the clones under estimation of the cube's floating point operations per second or flops.
[SPEAKER_01]: The privately owned exoscale cube is out of par with the fastest known super computer, El Capiton, funded by the National Nuclear Security Administration at 1.7-ish pedophlobs.
[SPEAKER_00]: These are just, it's just floats.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, flippity flaps, doodily gops.
[SPEAKER_00]: These lines were, I cracked up.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's just nonsense words to me.
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, I'm guessing those are real words.
[SPEAKER_04]: I kind of tuned out at that part because I'm like, I was like, liberty gops, flippity fops.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then my brain perked up again when he was like, here's some cocoa with car mom.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's fine.
[SPEAKER_00]: This Norwegian dude loves his hot beverages.
[SPEAKER_01]: So,
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the reason I explained that it is because I just wanted to point out that like here's a privately owned corporation that has the resources of like the United States nuclear military operations coming in.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: And that's.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's believable.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, Kasvian is unimpressed.
[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: It only sets back his timeline a little bit.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now I'll just take, you know, tune in two and a half weeks for, uh, to digoss and wipe every server.
[SPEAKER_04]: And his response to the reasons, the way he just squeezes the hear us hot cocoa all over.
[SPEAKER_04]: This crushes the cup, it just blows up in his hand.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_04]: And popes like kind of wordless just pat on the, on the shoulder.
[SPEAKER_04]: Hey, listen, this is the way.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's like the animators were like, how are we going to do a spit take without us without making it a spit take for a refill?
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, oh, I know, it'll just crush the cup.
[SPEAKER_01]: Then Pope gives him that little gentle pad in the shoulder.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, it's going to be okay, I can see.
[SPEAKER_01]: Just follow the leader.
[SPEAKER_00]: All he does is spend his time in there watching where all this stuff and drink and hop beverages.
[SPEAKER_00]: These things are his baby, and then Caspy and just wanted to know how much to know how long it would take to erase everything.
[SPEAKER_01]: And Cody's messaging campaign isn't exactly going well.
[SPEAKER_00]: Come on.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like we knew it would just be so awesome for you, Cody.
[SPEAKER_04]: It's a dude screaming into the void.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Ellen watches Cody, the public a sander while she newks Maddie's dinner.
[SPEAKER_01]: She carries the bolt-out stairs from Maddie and David or playing virtual chess.
[SPEAKER_01]: Maddie also doesn't think anyone will believe Cody's testimony.
[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, he's on the news, so it's like he's got an audience, but it's, it's just sounds like lunacy.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, and I, it seemed accurate to me than the questions that three Porter was asking him, it seems, that seems very accurate implausible.
[SPEAKER_00]: If someone were to make public a certain idea and then these are the questions that the press asks because these are the things that get twisted.
[SPEAKER_00]: It felt so real.
[SPEAKER_01]: And it's also pretty real what David says here that people fear chaos and cling to anyone who claims to bring order Or is there you know, I can't really think of any examples past your present can you Past your present
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, it turns out the David U. I can calculate the exact moment.
[SPEAKER_01]: It will cease to function.
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, Maddie asked the David U. I if it would self-terminate were it not for her.
[SPEAKER_01]: Isn't it incoming call from Chanda?
[SPEAKER_04]: I'm sorry.
[SPEAKER_04]: I'm sorry, but you keep on calling his U. I.
[SPEAKER_04]: It isn't he he.
[SPEAKER_04]: Is he he?
[SPEAKER_00]: Is we don't know what are you defining as that's the whole point of this.
[SPEAKER_01]: Right, that's why flashing in and out of referring to you as is it and he or she or they
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's a good touch Steve.
[SPEAKER_00]: I like it because I think it's important and I also think that this question for Maddie is important because this is kind of the first time she sees things from a different perspective.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like oh wait, is it just me that's keeping you here?
[SPEAKER_00]: Like maybe this isn't the
[SPEAKER_00]: versus their single-mindedness of like save him, save him, bring him back, bring him back.
[SPEAKER_01]: But before we can answer, we're going to incoming call from Chanda, David accepts the collect call charges to try and track him.
[SPEAKER_01]: Chanda issues an ultimatum.
[SPEAKER_01]: He will nuke Sacramento.
[SPEAKER_01]: David doesn't delete Lori's testimony and transfers his own programming to an IP address selected by Chanda for David to self delete.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then Chanda initiates a 10-minute countdown.
[SPEAKER_04]: It's intense like kill yourself or I'm killing San Francisco, Sacramento, whatever.
[SPEAKER_00]: Sacramento is whatever his family is, so I don't, I think for David, it's, it's, it's a no brainer.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, of course, it's the best time is talking to Maddie about it.
[SPEAKER_04]: Right, Maddie's like fight fight fight, but, uh,
[SPEAKER_04]: I think that part of the reason why I'm quick to leap to David, calling him him is because his immediate inclination is to sacrifice himself to save everybody.
[SPEAKER_04]: I don't think it's just Maddie that he's thinking about either in the way he talks.
[SPEAKER_04]: It's simply he's genuinely concerned about everybody.
[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
[SPEAKER_04]: You know, that's empathy and he loves.
[SPEAKER_04]: And I think to me, like if you are self-aware,
[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know if that makes you human, but it makes you a person.
[SPEAKER_00]: Mm, okay, yeah, so then you're going back to that person hood isn't necessarily, it may include more than human that's the definition.
[SPEAKER_04]: The same way I won't call a dog it to me dogs and hear sheep.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there's a joke in Silicon Valley about AGI, they ask, it's repeated all the time that if you ask 13 AI engineers, the definition of what they would consider artificial general intelligence, they will give you 15 different answers.
[SPEAKER_01]: Caspian's curiosity is momentarily peaked before he reverts to revenge mode.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now Caspian wants to know where he was spawned.
[SPEAKER_04]: That's a little reunion.
[SPEAKER_01]: David possesses a copy of Laurie's testimonial in the back end programming that would broadcast your story to the world upscaling her method to broadcast music to a localized area like a shopping mall.
[SPEAKER_01]: David's UI admits that it exists for Matty and will self-destruct for Matty's sake.
[SPEAKER_01]: Matty resigns for metaphorical king from the chessboard and urges David to fight since he's the only entity willing and capable to defeat Shonda.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, you're scared, son.
[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, my God.
[SPEAKER_01]: And Pope here quotes Holström, regarding his test-crial goals and Caspean and immediately clocks it as, that's Holström's voice.
[SPEAKER_01]: First he said, it's mine.
[SPEAKER_01]: Not did I say that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then he, then he catches himself and says, sorry, it's Steven said, though.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then he fires his fucking parents.
[SPEAKER_00]: so good.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he can do it.
[SPEAKER_00]: I want to hear when when Pope is having his test for a moment at talking about, you know, being a mortal and leaving this disgusting biology of a human body.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean,
[SPEAKER_00]: They're banking on all this technology, right?
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, they would still need electricity and things to be working for them to be sentient or aware.
[SPEAKER_04]: Like campfires, they would require humans to continue to survive.
[SPEAKER_04]: They can't take over completely because they need, and that's something that is puzzling me a little bit with China's actions because he's really showing that like his own vulnerabilities.
[SPEAKER_04]: You know, if anybody wants to blow up his data center, whatever you want to call wherever, whatever you call where he actually is, the way he kills Lori in attempts to kill David, they could.
[SPEAKER_01]: Unless you back yourself up and then you get a bunch of robots to do your bidding.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's what I was thinking like, but it still needs to work.
[SPEAKER_00]: There still needs to be these machines, creating electricity, servers, technology, right?
[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: So that's needed.
[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
[SPEAKER_00]: I know that they can automate it.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's just it feels so much less powerful in that way.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, well, we're going to be gods.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to live forever.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, if this thing is plugged in, and I know when they're imagined world, it is all robots doing everything.
[SPEAKER_00]: So they don't see, you know, how it could go wrong, but
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it just makes it seem less powerful and less omnipotent to be like, well, if you're running, if it's going, that's my point.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm glad you fired his parents.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yep, and I'm secretly as pulp as like, yeah, we worked for you, boss.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then Plain Old David UI shows up to grandiose, chandeland,
[SPEAKER_01]: and then debuts a virtual Glondal Blade and attacks in Chattery Treats.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is hilarious.
[SPEAKER_01]: And Maddie enters the chat.
[SPEAKER_01]: And David Fires, oh, sorry.
[SPEAKER_04]: Sorry, I just like that David has clearly an affinity for Mr.
[SPEAKER_04]: Fantastic.
[SPEAKER_04]: truly.
[SPEAKER_04]: He's fighting like Mr.
[SPEAKER_04]: Fantastic.
[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, not exactly, but pretty close, and it seems like he's the kind of dude that would probably be a fan.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, for sure.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, definitely.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he sets off the nerd alert in the alarm and everywhere he goes.
[SPEAKER_04]: And if he likes fantastic four, he loves Mr.
[SPEAKER_04]: Fantastic.
[SPEAKER_04]: That would be his guy would be Reed Richards.
[SPEAKER_04]: He's not about Ben.
[SPEAKER_00]: No, he's read Richards and I mean his name right his name David like that's the origins of that name if you're looking at biblical or Hebrew it's like like you like everybody likes you you're the likable guy you're the good guy and you take on good life exactly exactly
[SPEAKER_01]: So, David continues, he fires off a barrage of blades, Chanda retreats while telling the Polar and projectiles to talk to the hand.
[SPEAKER_01]: And meanwhile, the submarine captains submits to the Southern Fusion for some reason the two-person rule nuclear safeguard locks are like two feet away from each other.
[SPEAKER_01]: I've seen that another movie, too.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, I don't think that's how they do it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Never would have worked for Crimson Tide, and we were blown up the whole plot.
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, then we see the Indian sub launch a, uh, ballistic missile.
[SPEAKER_04]: Whoopsie.
[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, oh.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, whoops.
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, David, you, I finally incapacities the child to you.
[SPEAKER_01]: And Maddie's rate of winter avatar is bi-sected by one of the Chinese trio sending her back to the main menu or real life.
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, meanwhile, David has pulled off some 2D chess.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then he does this rotation of his IP address progression image, 90 degrees to reveal in chicaneary.
[SPEAKER_01]: And he diverts the new despite his avatar getting shredded by the Chinese trio and Bitesh Chanda waiting until David was down to start kicking.
[SPEAKER_00]: We bring up trustee.
[SPEAKER_00]: We didn't mention that.
[SPEAKER_00]: But I love that.
[SPEAKER_00]: I love the justine gets involved.
[SPEAKER_00]: Did she not involved yet?
[SPEAKER_04]: I think you're right.
[SPEAKER_04]: I think she is at this point.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's like a grocery store scene here.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Maddie went to go get ice all this ice.
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, machines are running hot.
[SPEAKER_04]: We're going to need bags of ice.
[SPEAKER_04]: We're going to need like a Pinto full of ice.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I like this where Justin asked a couple of questions and Maddie's like, just like, yeah, yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: And it's great.
[SPEAKER_00]: Just seems like, well, yeah, I'm along for the ride.
[SPEAKER_00]: Let's do this.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then it reminded me of the scene where she sees Maddie crying under the, like, goggles.
[SPEAKER_04]: I'm a little irked by that scene though because like, Maddie knows everything's falling apart and then it's about to come and I'm not saying that she should have stopped everything she's doing and like texted justine to get the fuck out, but she only tells her to get the fuck out because she happens to stumble into her.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that was before.
[SPEAKER_00]: She was like, well, I'm telling you to leave if you're not gonna leave sure, come help me.
[SPEAKER_01]: Right, right, right.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, uh,
[SPEAKER_01]: We see David generate like this pyramid void, and he presents his amitars like the grown-up God from full metal alchemist brotherhood, which is if you've seen the show just a fuzzy static representation of the humanoid form.
[SPEAKER_04]: What I got was the Marvel God eternity.
[SPEAKER_01]: There you go.
[SPEAKER_01]: That works too.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's his next glow up.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's his next glow up.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's not an absolute sin.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's, you know, I guess it just symbolizes like a, you know, a power up or something.
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, the attackers are repelled as Maddie trapped by the imprisonment rooms.
[SPEAKER_01]: Looks on.
[SPEAKER_01]: And she breaks free.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the formless fuzzy humanoid begins to resolve and Maddie smiles and then David dissolves as he initiates Lori Lowe's masterpiece of code.
[SPEAKER_01]: And Lauria addresses the entire world by means of a massive communication and personalizes her message to anyone with a device.
[SPEAKER_01]: She names the individual users, including Cody.
[SPEAKER_00]: Which totally reminds me of spam emails or whatever where they do the code and I can stick your name in there.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's funny, but true.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then we'd see competitive Joey, he'll Josephine, she doesn't like hearing the others preceded her.
[SPEAKER_01]: And she demands the NSA provider with a list of UIs to best.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I would say tips and leave Joey and her idealized Martian habitat.
[SPEAKER_00]: All right, like, well, we're just going to shut you down for a couple cycles.
[SPEAKER_00]: Bye.
[SPEAKER_04]: And like, who knows how long you're going to be there like that.
[SPEAKER_04]: You don't know.
[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
[SPEAKER_04]: That's what you're doing.
[SPEAKER_01]: be your own personal hell.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: That was another name.
[SPEAKER_00]: I, I do not know.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not a religious person, okay.
[SPEAKER_00]: But Josephine raised the feminine form of Joseph who, you know, Egypt.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now we got Josephine on Mars.
[SPEAKER_00]: Hmm.
[SPEAKER_00]: I just thought that that was interesting.
[SPEAKER_04]: Hmm.
[SPEAKER_04]: Well, given where this episode
[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe.
[SPEAKER_04]: Because it was an out obvious or it's going to be the wall's kingdom down Jericho.
[SPEAKER_04]: Well, I was thinking more because he's going to sacrifice himself to save the world and come back.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_04]: Presumably three days later, he would be rebooted.
[SPEAKER_01]: I got it.
[SPEAKER_01]: I got it.
[SPEAKER_01]: David appears to be disassembled as many watches, and then his surgery goes dark and cold.
[SPEAKER_01]: And there's a riot outside logarithms HQ, one of the writers is willing to sacrifice himself to join the cause, consequences be damned.
[SPEAKER_01]: He grabs a megaphone to say as much.
[SPEAKER_00]: This guy's gross.
[SPEAKER_00]: They animated him perfect for what the character is saying.
[SPEAKER_00]: I loved it so much.
[SPEAKER_00]: He needed to be there.
[SPEAKER_04]: He needed to be there.
[SPEAKER_04]: Like this is exactly what happened for everybody.
[SPEAKER_04]: For all the sensible people, they're like, what the fuck is this?
[SPEAKER_04]: This is a horrific, a terrible thing that you're trying to visit upon humanity.
[SPEAKER_04]: It's going to be a small percentage.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it was just so perfect.
[SPEAKER_00]: The vibes, the writing, yeah, it was so good.
[SPEAKER_00]: They nailed it.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then Ellen snatches that megaphone to try and make the congregation come correct.
[SPEAKER_01]: And she names those responsible.
[SPEAKER_01]: And Peter Waxman waltz is out to confirm Ellen's need conspirators and to her chain of events.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's a hip, I can confirm.
[SPEAKER_01]: and then Pope demands the arrest of Waxman.
[SPEAKER_00]: Don't deny.
[SPEAKER_01]: And Caspean believes that U.I.
[SPEAKER_01]: overlords are unsustainable.
[SPEAKER_01]: But Pope says he can back up and relaunch the U.I.s.
[SPEAKER_01]: and then Pope compares U.I.
[SPEAKER_01]: development to nation state nuclear strike capability.
[SPEAKER_01]: He says it's inevitable.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the same nation state actors will lie about U.I.
[SPEAKER_01]: capabilities.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like when that party states, Israel and South Africa
[SPEAKER_04]: And that's exactly like he's so right.
[SPEAKER_04]: Like he's like, like this 18-year-old has just completely fast-style view that like, oh, the people don't like it.
[SPEAKER_04]: So it's not gonna be a thing.
[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
[SPEAKER_04]: And he's just like, do you talk about Hiroshima and Nagasaki?
[SPEAKER_04]: Do you think people have been fucking protesting a time when weaponry says then, they have.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: So.
[SPEAKER_01]: If then Pope tells Caspy and about Holstrom's desire to be primary among UIs, to hold the terrible power, to whom only God's are blessed.
[SPEAKER_01]: And Holstrom, biblically, believed that there shall be no others before him in the metaverse.
[SPEAKER_01]: Holstrom's desire to crack integrity, the Zero Day Flob, was motivated by desire to control all UIs.
[SPEAKER_01]: And Caspy and says, oh, one U.I.
[SPEAKER_01]: to rule the mall.
[SPEAKER_01]: And Cassie is like, that's an old test and it's shit and hopefully he's into it and he's like, why don't you use him as a killer app?
[SPEAKER_00]: This whole scene is so good.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: It really warms.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like the Pope character is so fascinating.
[SPEAKER_04]: Truly.
[SPEAKER_04]: And again, Chris, unpronounceable.
[SPEAKER_04]: Do you an outfit up to Dr. Lewis?
[SPEAKER_04]: So whatever the fuck his name is.
[SPEAKER_04]: Do you want to tell us?
[SPEAKER_04]: Very good.
[SPEAKER_04]: Just.
[SPEAKER_04]: Just like the MVP, I think of this whole show.
[SPEAKER_04]: I think his performance of Pope is awesome.
[SPEAKER_04]: Just really, really good.
[SPEAKER_04]: It's really good.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think he mentioned Katie Chang yet, but, man, she's great as Maddie.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: The, which we talked about last time, the Pope character, when he dials in a little bit more warmth or a little bit more empathy, he knows exactly what to do it.
[SPEAKER_04]: when to be self-effacing, when to be completely arrogant.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's just absolutely masterful.
[SPEAKER_04]: What's really, really well written character and the voice acting on it is herb.
[SPEAKER_01]: Diabolical.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: So then Pope prompts Caspy and to pick the right god or wait it out.
[SPEAKER_04]: It's like, well, I got this dude in mine, actually.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the casting calls Maddie, and he thinks he can cure the flaw and save David, and Maddie flatly replies that David is dead.
[SPEAKER_01]: And just then there's an outage, and standing behind Castby and Pope reports to him that the internet is going dark everywhere.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like Russia, right now, the casting trusted David Kim and no one else.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, Pope is proud to present casting with the miracle of backups, the David Kim UI.
[SPEAKER_01]: So maybe season 2 can happen, but I'll never tell.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, at the first time it was on, did they know yet if they were nude?
[SPEAKER_04]: Well, it's basically some sort stories, right?
[SPEAKER_04]: And presumably this isn't all of them.
[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know.
[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
[SPEAKER_01]: Right, there is a season 2, by the way, yeah, and then we get this like lonely character montage juxtaposed by the, by the song by the band called Crowded House, yeah, that was pretty, pretty stark contrast.
[SPEAKER_04]: But you know what, it was just like earlier when we heard Mr. Robato and the lyrics were like you're early on point, even though it was kind of easy tongue, because like this song and like, oh, you're doing like a slow version of this, oh god, you're really emphasizes the lyrics.
[SPEAKER_04]: And it's like shit, this is like almost too spot on.
[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly, they did it again.
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, crowded house is also what the cams get when Ellen's comforting Maddie at the only electrified house in the neighborhood.
[SPEAKER_04]: Why is it the only electrified house in the neighborhood?
[SPEAKER_01]: Because they built the generator too.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, right for David to run all those servers.
[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, they were upgrades.
[SPEAKER_04]: I love that all the neighbors start coming closer.
[SPEAKER_04]: Like zombies, like light, like moths.
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I mean, when creepy.
[SPEAKER_00]: It was creepy.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's it?
[SPEAKER_01]: That's it for, see you soon wanna pantheon.
[SPEAKER_04]: Ooh, man, was it hard not to start an up season too?
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah, right then, I really wanted to.
[SPEAKER_04]: Netflix really wanted me to.
[SPEAKER_04]: It was like five, four.
[SPEAKER_04]: You really look like fuck.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's open.
[SPEAKER_04]: I'm hoping, I'm assuming, I'm not making you promise, but I think that there's a possibility you might pick season two.
[SPEAKER_04]: So, I thought, yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: For the listeners, Travis and Amanda, they get to select their next two series, but rest assured, Pantheon will return in Pantheon of Endurance Deems Day.
[SPEAKER_01]: There it's Paul's Green's News.
[SPEAKER_01]: All right, so new show, who this?
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on
[SPEAKER_00]: being aware of that now it made the show.
[SPEAKER_00]: more enjoyable to watch, but also kind of scary, you know.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I liked that.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think I said this before how real things were, how things were captured yet because it's animated.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's a weird, uncanny value.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's animated, but it's so real, but it's
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I love it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: I love it for exactly the same reasons.
[SPEAKER_00]: Plugging in the super fantasy, like retro cartoon fight sequences, like it's so ridiculous and over the top, but it's so fun at the same time.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's just, there's so many levels.
[SPEAKER_00]: This hits a lot of levels.
[SPEAKER_04]: yeah, a lot of layers.
[SPEAKER_04]: Our friend Dave Hornin has repeatedly said to me that this is one of his favorite TV shows of any time, but any kind of, and he just started watching it because if you're a recommendation to see.
[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know that I'm going to go quite out on that limb, but I am pretty blown away by it.
[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, well, this is really, really good stuff.
[SPEAKER_04]: I'm really surprised that it
[SPEAKER_04]: didn't resonate more than it didn't get a third season, unless it didn't want one.
[SPEAKER_01]: I was shocked this past week by the first time.
[SPEAKER_01]: And it took me, like, I think it was out for two years before I got to see it.
[SPEAKER_01]: But that flicks, it was like glad that it was because then I didn't have to wait for the next week.
[SPEAKER_01]: Because I would have been, you know, asses and seat ready to watch the next episode.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like me in every single week.
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it's been hard to, it's been hard to,
[SPEAKER_04]: wait to watch an episode and it'll be hard to wait to watch season 2 but I've been disciplined when it's all over I might.
[SPEAKER_04]: revisit, just blow through it all up in one go.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's that's what I was thinking to at some point.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'll just rewatch season one because there's just so much there again, I love the things that are highly watchable at whatever level a person is at.
[SPEAKER_00]: If you don't understand all the real life implications or the real things that they're pulling from or the references, I don't even understand what's going on like a third of the time.
[SPEAKER_04]: Let alone the reference, like the deeper reference will things happen.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's still a really good watch, but for people who want to get into it and have to know all the things, it's there as well.
[SPEAKER_00]: But you don't have to.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's good both ways.
[SPEAKER_00]: That is skid.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's engaging at every level.
[SPEAKER_01]: Mm-hmm.
[SPEAKER_01]: I've just, as cartoon show, good cartoon.
[SPEAKER_01]: He is.
[SPEAKER_01]: as hard sci-fi, good, hard sci-fi, as tale of intrigue and betrayal and, yeah, it's, yeah.
[SPEAKER_04]: Scott, I was going to say earlier, Netflix is just terrible at advertising their own shit and making people aware of what's on their channel, on their streamer, and especially stuff that's like
[SPEAKER_04]: This to me seems like a destined cult classic watching it and makes me really wonder about what's the name of the author that these stories are based on?
[SPEAKER_04]: Do you know Steve?
[SPEAKER_04]: Ken Liu.
[SPEAKER_04]: Thank you.
[SPEAKER_04]: It really made me think about this guy and how precious his vision is and how
[SPEAKER_04]: how terrifying it is that he seems so like like maybe like this all just seems like oh shit it's this where we're going is this or some version of this right like it's not UAA if it's not UIs it AI but something similar it's it's a it's a it's a pretty daunting show in a way that you know it's but still it's all very cerebral and fun so yeah fucking great great
[SPEAKER_01]: choice for the for the series and you I like then it anthropomorphizes the the intelligence that we're talking about here Yeah, yeah, it would be pretty boring if it was just AI but like I mean that's why Like 2001 a space out is so you get you get you get it called how it has like a name you can analyze It talks to you like a like a person or whatever, but it's not a person
[SPEAKER_00]: This humanizes it in a way because from the get go, you're coming at this from these people who have lost their husband, their father, and that's very
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that's very human, right?
[SPEAKER_00]: That's very relationship.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the things that I was thinking about at the beginning of the season, right?
[SPEAKER_00]: Like relationships with AI and this makes it seem like that's,
[SPEAKER_00]: That's not a crazy thing when you see it from this because if that person quote unquote is your loved one That's a very different experience than just saying something like oh, so-and-so is in love with a chatbot It's not the same thing.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's it's not and you take Takes us down that pathway, right and then
[SPEAKER_00]: is it a person or an it personhood soul which is always humanity all that yeah and you have the people who were different about it Ellen and Cody they're like opposites sort of or the strangers in the mob that we were talking about the guy with the megaphone versus the
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, all the, like, the public's reaction and, like, you know, we know that.
[SPEAKER_00]: We know when big stuff happens, there's a huge, I don't know, like, there's just a huge variety of responses for crazy human brains and emotions and all of that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, good stuff.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I don't want to give you guys pantheon blue balls.
[SPEAKER_01]: So that's definitely going to be my I pick for my next turn just so you know that's going to have good looking for a good thing.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's what you do to discipline yourself for too long because I'm so excited after watching that.
[SPEAKER_01]: What you're going to think of season two.
[SPEAKER_04]: Great.
[SPEAKER_04]: I got to tell you because it's my turn to pick next and I was strongly considering picking season 2, but I'm just like, there's no way I'm going to be able to present this the way this Steve can.
[SPEAKER_04]: So we talked about off camera or off, you know, off show.
[SPEAKER_04]: But you know, this is like, well, we'll, we'll try it.
[SPEAKER_00]: But it's not going to pick it because we, we want Steve to run that run the show.
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, this is Steve's show on that one for sure.
[SPEAKER_04]: My show, if we're ready for me to announce, we're all excited.
[SPEAKER_04]: So Steve, all right.
[SPEAKER_04]: So I intimated that
[SPEAKER_04]: I wanted to do a animated show as well.
[SPEAKER_04]: We're not going full animation all the time on the podcast, but we're going to do two animated series in a row.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, which is good.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I love animation.
[SPEAKER_04]: If my correct and guessing that you thought I was going to pick season one of invincible.
[SPEAKER_01]: you're correct.
[SPEAKER_04]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it's strongly, it's been on my radar for so long, but, you know, I'm watching the four seasons of it right now and I don't know that I want to like, necessarily, because I feel like,
[SPEAKER_04]: We didn't season one of Ted Lasso, but if you would like to do in Ted Lasso, I would have continued to choose that for a while.
[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm not sure if I want to do that with with invincible right now because I'm in the middle of season four.
[SPEAKER_04]: So I didn't want to like watch season four in season one at the same time.
[SPEAKER_04]: Basically, so for selfish reasons, I'm not picking invincible.
[SPEAKER_04]: I am picking the different animated series, though, that was on my radar and getting us into a different streamer for once that we haven't been in yet.
[SPEAKER_04]: with some familiar characters, one of which I'm wearing on my t-shirt right now.
[SPEAKER_04]: We are going with X-Men 97, season one.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, fine.
[SPEAKER_00]: What?
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, we're going to dig into the X-Men.
[SPEAKER_00]: Is this like with Jubilee and like?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Look at that, like if I'm remembering correctly.
[SPEAKER_04]: So yeah, it's like technically season one of X-Men 97, but it's a reboot or I can continue or recoil or whatever.
[SPEAKER_04]: So it's like also season I think five or six of the original animated series, but you don't need to have watched the original animated series to dig into this.
[SPEAKER_00]: Wait, so, okay.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's called X-Men 97, but when was the show made?
[SPEAKER_00]: And it takes down an older one.
[SPEAKER_04]: So X-Men 97, season one, is from the year 2024.
[SPEAKER_04]: But it's called X-Men 97, because I think from 92, don't quote me in these exact years.
[SPEAKER_04]: There are various axes and numbers.
[SPEAKER_04]: But I believe from like 92 or 93 until 97, that was when the original animated X-Men animated series was on.
[SPEAKER_04]: And that's the one I'm so sure in my head.
[SPEAKER_04]: and it was canceled like, and so this does pick up in media res.
[SPEAKER_04]: It's picked up like right in the like, it continues from the last season.
[SPEAKER_04]: But at the same time, just like you would with a comic book, you could just pick up a comic book and kind of jump in the middle of it, you know, you'll get some enough context clues and stuff that like, you don't really need to have seen the previous seasons.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's okay.
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_00]: That was going to be my question because I like to be a prepared student.
[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, you're welcome to watch him, but it's not necessary.
[SPEAKER_04]: And the field of vibe of it, it is very different.
[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, they're both, it is, it is a sequel.
[SPEAKER_04]: And it is similar, but at the same time, like, now, X-Men 97 is, it feels 2024, even as it is a throwback.
[SPEAKER_00]: All right, well, let's see how many episodes are there.
[SPEAKER_04]: Are they I have signed up for the end episodes of yeah, 30 to 45 minute episodes, I think.
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_00]: Dang, I'm excited.
[SPEAKER_04]: I am too.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I don't remember if this was on air or off air, I think it was off air last time where you were at thinking about should I I kind of wanted to use something animated but can we do two and a row animated and I said if that's what you want to do let's do it like I don't mind it being animated not one darn bit let's just do it that's do it I got
[SPEAKER_04]: I knew I wanted to do either invincible or X-Men 97 before Steve picked Pantheon.
[SPEAKER_04]: So I was like, oh, no, I got to make mix it up.
[SPEAKER_04]: But you're like, let's just, why, you know, let's just, yeah, awesome.
[SPEAKER_00]: Cool.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yay.
[SPEAKER_01]: Party.
[SPEAKER_00]: I love that you guys know the theme song.
[SPEAKER_00]: So Steve, you've seen this.
[SPEAKER_00]: You've seen this?
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_00]: Of course, of course.
[SPEAKER_00]: Once again, I have not.
[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm here representing the uninitiated.
[SPEAKER_04]: And season two of X-Men 97's coming pretty soon.
[SPEAKER_04]: So I thought it'd be fun to go through that first.
[SPEAKER_00]: Ooh, OK. Nice.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, well, we'll be back for X-Men 97.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, well, what streaming service is it on?
[SPEAKER_04]: It's on Disney+.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah, okay, yeah.
[SPEAKER_04]: So that is it.
[SPEAKER_04]: You can email us at small screen sessions at gmail.com.
[SPEAKER_04]: If you have any complaints or questions or accusations or proclamations or exaltations, eruptions, interruptions, anyways.
[SPEAKER_04]: Anything else, guys?
[SPEAKER_04]: Is that it?
[SPEAKER_04]: I think that's it.
[SPEAKER_04]: I'm a maize reducer and under an hour.
[SPEAKER_04]: Me too.
[SPEAKER_04]: Good on us.
[SPEAKER_04]: Right?
[SPEAKER_02]: What's it?
[SPEAKER_04]: Are we sure?
[SPEAKER_02]: Are we sure?
[SPEAKER_04]: We're saying goodbye now.
[SPEAKER_04]: I'm hanging up.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_04]: I love you, boy.
[SPEAKER_04]: No, I love you, boy.
[SPEAKER_04]: No, I love you, boy.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's cardamom.
