Ep 77: X-Men '97 S1E5 "Remember It"

Things get intense as the gang dips into episode 5 of Disney+'s X-Men '97Remember It." Travis remembers that it is his turn on trivia this time.

[SPEAKER_06]: Um, we are here to talk about the fifth episode of X-Men 97 called Remember It, which I hope you both feel like I do that it's a bit of an about face from the Nadir of the season which was episode four, uh, a bit of an improvement, yes, you agree?

[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_06]: Okay, right?

[SPEAKER_06]: Because I don't know that.

[SPEAKER_06]: This was a bit of a stinker.

[SPEAKER_06]: And then this one comes to your, like, fuck.

[SPEAKER_01]: That's, I was saying that several times during the episode, we'll only shit or fuck.

[SPEAKER_01]: A lot happened.

[SPEAKER_06]: Awesome.

[SPEAKER_01]: The drama was heavy and the type of drama also.

[SPEAKER_01]: So I'd like to, I was thinking back to a memory.

[SPEAKER_01]: of when Travis first asked me to be a part of this new project, and I said, well, what if I want to pick something like Bridgerton and he scoffs and is like refusing and like making fun of that, like that's the most ridiculous thing ever, so much shit that's happening on this show would be something that happens on Bridgerton.

[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe like less full on explosions.

[SPEAKER_06]: I feel like we have different memories of this conversation.

[SPEAKER_06]: I don't remember stopping and mocking.

[SPEAKER_06]: I remember being like, it's not my thing, but if you were really into it and you want to choose it, I'd probably be like, and not excited, but okay.

[SPEAKER_06]: I guess I was probably feeling like, well, if I put the nail on this now, I'll never come back again.

[SPEAKER_06]: Anyways, he says, hey, guys in Gal, old news here, but I finally found some time to prioritize watching the second half of Pantheon and listening to the podcast episodes and concert with that.

[SPEAKER_06]: I will echo a lot of the wrap-up comments, primarily having Steve Shepardos through the episode significantly enhanced the viewing experience.

[SPEAKER_06]: Secondly, there were so many interesting and scary topics and themes to dive into that are very pertinent to the world we live in that you all hit on throughout the season and in the wrap-up.

[SPEAKER_06]: A couple of additional comments that I was thinking about as the show wrapped up.

[SPEAKER_06]: My fears of the not cool girl, Maddie,

[SPEAKER_06]: being bullied by the cool girls in high school, being a running through line where unfounded, thankfully.

[SPEAKER_06]: Also, side note, did summer break happen or something?

[SPEAKER_06]: After the second or third episode, the school seems just a vanished besides the Maddie Dream King.

[SPEAKER_06]: Good point.

[SPEAKER_06]: I think she's just dropped out, like this bigger fish is right here.

[SPEAKER_01]: I think I don't know, maybe her mom was like calling in and saying this is an excuse to absence like we have a family crisis.

[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, he goes on to say Chris a DM on top of us the voice of Pope, which I agree he portrayed expertly.

[SPEAKER_06]: Surprisingly, I was familiar with him because my daughter did an extra credit school project in the spring of 2025 on the history of Mickey Mouse, photo a test.

[SPEAKER_06]: He is one of the two main active voice actors for Mickey Mouse portraying the retro version of Mickey, holy shit.

[SPEAKER_06]: and what and he and my god picture of his daughter and her like trifled like you know, I mean like with a presentation for the presentation for the history of Mickey Mouse and Undescribid it for you as well as our listeners.

[SPEAKER_06]: She is where she looks proud Awesome.

[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, and I had no idea Christy of Wentoppolo's was the voice of Mickey Mouse and everyone guess that he's got such a gruff voice.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's crazy to me and also I just started rewatching Silicon Valley can't believe house Absolutely fresh and relevant.

[SPEAKER_02]: It is and like yeah, and it is really funny, but Yeah, yeah, he's he's hilarious and like I can't imagine the guy who's placed that character could also do Mickey Mouse I'd like to see him do some more live action stuff.

[SPEAKER_06]: We also are treated to soft serve and soft serve can produce ice cream with her hands.

[SPEAKER_06]: She makes ice cream for glob Herman and leech and some other folks on genosa genosa genosa.

[SPEAKER_06]: Soft serve can conjure any ice cream she wants from the ice cream dimension.

[SPEAKER_06]: That's a real marble character.

[SPEAKER_06]: So he can like use it like a lasso, like a whip.

[SPEAKER_06]: Bailey Hoskins can self detonate into however big explosion he wants, but can only do it once because it will kill him I think that's real.

[SPEAKER_06]: Lastly, we have butts.

[SPEAKER_06]: I'm you and who looks like a butt.

[SPEAKER_02]: Now, this one I want to be real.

[SPEAKER_06]: We got a kick ass motherfucker intro and we again began with TV news Exposition as Trish Tilby from FC news Films us in on mutants.

[SPEAKER_02]: What a great reporter name.

[SPEAKER_06]: Oh, it's great.

[SPEAKER_06]: It's perfect

[SPEAKER_06]: So then, yeah, also the same voice person that voice Calisto I believe she starts with an interview with Hank McCoy or Beast who blushes through his blue fur at her compliments the X-Men are depicted its outcasts who have come together in a found family at Charles Xavier school

[SPEAKER_06]: Tilby tells us also that the mutination of genosa has joined the United Nations, this is the third episode in the row where we're informed of this.

[SPEAKER_06]: And we cut from the news to rogue piloting the Blackbird with Magneto writing shotgun and explaining to a rather selling gambit that they're only flying the plane because gambit can't fly.

[SPEAKER_06]: They get to genosa which features giant statues of magneto and professor acts like those dudes at the in never had any story or in Lord of the Rings with their hands up Just giant.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's a bit of a story.

[SPEAKER_02]: We get some JJ Abrams lens flares.

[SPEAKER_02]: It's a blackbird vertically to sense.

[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, how else would you know, it was cool.

[SPEAKER_01]: This place looks like a party.

[SPEAKER_06]: It's amazing.

[SPEAKER_06]: It's a bustling metropolis populated with mutants such as arc angels.

[SPEAKER_06]: It's kind of flying by, uh, glob her men with his C through scam.

[SPEAKER_06]: We got pixie, leech, some girl who could turn herself into a parrot, I guess.

[SPEAKER_06]: She's not a real mutant, or at least not from the comics.

[SPEAKER_06]: Anyways, I made her for that.

[SPEAKER_06]: We got soft service mentioned, um, the experiment agreed like heroes and looks for men.

[SPEAKER_06]: Does he make an appearance?

[SPEAKER_06]: I didn't see him.

[SPEAKER_06]: Val Cooper, one of the only humans of the nation, agreed to them and Kurt Wagner, aka Knight Crawler, who we're seeing for the first time the season he agreed to them as well.

[SPEAKER_02]: And he showed up in the beginning credits, too.

[SPEAKER_01]: He did.

[SPEAKER_01]: This greeting was amazing.

[SPEAKER_01]: Immediately, I'm like this needs to be a three way with night crawler, rogue, and Cajun dude.

[SPEAKER_01]: Like a sectional for you.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, or like a thrupple, whatever, like yeah, but yeah, that they looked a hot together.

[SPEAKER_01]: There was a good vibe.

[SPEAKER_06]: It'll be happy to know that there's this thing called the internet where the X-Men just fucking each other non-stop in fan fiction.

[SPEAKER_06]: Rogan particular is taking with genosia while Gambit grumbles about Magneto being treated like royalty.

[SPEAKER_06]: Dazzler makes her first actual appearance in the show and while her show distracts Rogue, Nightcrawler urges Gambit to just propose to her already and he scoffs and says scoundrels like me don't get no white pick at reward.

[SPEAKER_02]: Meanwhile, Nightcrawler is just spreading fart gas around the produce market.

[SPEAKER_02]: It doesn't even pay for the apple.

[SPEAKER_02]: Bam!

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, it almost smells like brimstone, so that's not cool.

[SPEAKER_06]: We're sulfuric.

[SPEAKER_06]: Oh, no.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_01]: That's also where I saw he has like three fingers, three digits, two fingers in a thumb.

[SPEAKER_06]: So meanwhile back at the Ex-Mansion, Trisha Tilbe's a new special continues, and she takes it to turn interviewing Cyclops.

[SPEAKER_06]: This is...

[SPEAKER_06]: The coolest Cyclops has ever been or ever will be in all of the X-Men in my opinion and I would love X and I love Cyclops She's one of my favorite characters, but he's fucking great in this scene When he goes off

[SPEAKER_06]: He tries to talk about real shit, or that actually comes a bit little bit later.

[SPEAKER_06]: So we'll get to that, but yeah, so that when he goes off his my favorite, but that comes to the moment.

[SPEAKER_06]: So he tries to talk about real shit, but till we just want to talk about his love life with quote unquote Marvel girl, Marvel girl herself, but her known as Jean Grey is doing a Moses act of the pond out back when Logan comes upon her.

[SPEAKER_06]: She says she can't do any interviews if she doesn't know what memories her hers and we see that she's literally sorting through memories in the physical form of large bubbles of water around her.

[SPEAKER_06]: Jean with Logan and Scott with Tilbee talk about different points in their relationship together about their history.

[SPEAKER_06]: He talks about how she could use her powers if she suppresses energy blasts and she says that his eyes made her stay.

[SPEAKER_06]: Logan makes a statement about how Jean is one of a kind and shockingly, she kisses him.

[SPEAKER_06]: And Logan shuts her the fuck down because he'd rather pine away with his emo hands going to be burnt by the torch than actually take the risk of loving and being loved again.

[SPEAKER_06]: And he even literally turns his back on her.

[SPEAKER_01]: I was so pissed.

[SPEAKER_01]: He was fine.

[SPEAKER_01]: He did a good job.

[SPEAKER_01]: Matt, her, your manager.

[SPEAKER_01]: What the fuck?

[SPEAKER_01]: At some point, you just need to not, okay, you put a guy in the front zone, sort of, and you know he's pining for you, yet you continue to complain and process your romantic love with this man torturing him, and then you kiss him.

[SPEAKER_06]: she's really messed up.

[SPEAKER_01]: She's messed up and I just feel like that's kind of selfish.

[SPEAKER_01]: yeah he's punishing himself like he always does he's gonna sit in his misery about it that's part of it but i think part of it is his care for her too like don't do this you know this is not how it's supposed to be don't fuck up your whole life i'm going to remind you all right have a good day that's a good point and he probably could see right down the line that like if anything did happen it would end badly for him and

[SPEAKER_06]: Till we then ask Scott about his son with Gene and things get weird because it's hard to explain what happened there.

[SPEAKER_06]: She brings up the bigoted doctor that would not deliver Madeline's baby and that doesn't help.

[SPEAKER_06]: And she says, I came here today to give the ex-men the chance to show the world that mutants are just like us.

[SPEAKER_06]: People, normal.

[SPEAKER_06]: And you lie.

[SPEAKER_06]: Why lie?

[SPEAKER_06]: Scott snorts and says he lies because she's normal.

[SPEAKER_06]: Then he goes off, calling her a normal people like her ungrateful for all the X-Men have done for them.

[SPEAKER_06]: I gave him up because you couldn't say thank you.

[SPEAKER_06]: He says because I have to stomach your questions and prove that I'm a person.

[SPEAKER_06]: I lie because the truth is we're nothing like you.

[SPEAKER_06]: Thank God because it's the only reason you people are still alive.

[SPEAKER_06]: And that's it.

[SPEAKER_06]: Interview over takes off the mic and storms offset.

[SPEAKER_02]: us reach quit that interview.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_01]: This was a tantrum.

[SPEAKER_01]: This was a tantrum because his ass is so clenched every day.

[SPEAKER_06]: And this isn't great to have the leader of the X-Men being like, fuck you humans with all.

[SPEAKER_01]: because there's all these people, and I'm like, that's gotta be somebody, that's gotta be somebody.

[SPEAKER_06]: Okay, so let's break it down real quick.

[SPEAKER_06]: And then other things started happening, where they burned, they could actually touch flesh to flesh.

[SPEAKER_01]: um let's can we talk about okay so she talks about her evil mom and then her evil mom like delivers her to Magneto which felt very like here's your one chance fancy don't let me down like it was just grow like you know obviously there's a bit of an age difference yeah and rogue would have been a teenager I think her early 20s at the time

[SPEAKER_01]: But also then, she's so starved for like physical connection.

[SPEAKER_01]: I don't blame her.

[SPEAKER_06]: Uh, and to Magneto's surprise, Rogue tells him that, that gamut was right, that some things are deeper than skin.

[SPEAKER_06]: She has made her choice and it's gamut after all.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_02]: So you're rolling that magnetic motor.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_01]: Or let me just say, not, I don't know if she's specifically choosing Gambit or if she's just choosing to not be his quote unquote queen, Magneto's queen.

[SPEAKER_06]: She's not necessarily choosing Gambit, but she's not choosing Magneto.

[SPEAKER_06]: What's suggest is she's going to go back to like the defaults it's way that she's been in with Gambit, you know, and to me that implies

[SPEAKER_06]: And she lies next to Sebastian Shaw, who, as I said, had an incredibly powerful mutant nuclear absorb energy.

[SPEAKER_06]: So he should not have died of screened.

[SPEAKER_06]: frankly, others have died as well, including Calisto, the more likely leader, and Gambit explains that the rest of the more locks are pinned down.

[SPEAKER_06]: And Magneto references the promise that he made to Lisa he would never need to be scared again.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, it's it's it's grim.

[SPEAKER_06]: It looks like they're going to live.

[SPEAKER_06]: I love it I mean like so you see it with the same get up and on foot for him to be like a purple Like a motorcycle and this white suit is very cool
