Speaker 1: Hi Warriors, Welcome to Aren't you Worried? I'm your host,

Lauren Perry, and joining me this week is my sister,

my long standing guest for this summer, Amanda. Amanda, welcome back.

Thank you. I'm happy to be back. Thank you so

much for coming back. How are you doing pretty well?

Good on your second I was going to say you're

on your second week of summer. How's it going? Amazing good?

I've been reading so much true crime nonfiction. It's been

amazing perfect. What are you in the middle of right now? Well,

I don't want to say too much, but I'm a

goat some research for a future episode. I will perfect. Okay, awesome,

I'm doing the opposite. I wrote a couple of scripts

really close together, so I haven't written at all the

week nice, And guess what I did yesterday? Did you

buy a book? I bought two books? You bought two books? Yes,

Oh my gosh. The first one I bought was called

You Girls Play Nice, So we'll see what that's about

and I will report back later. And then the other

one is One of Us is Dead by Geneva Rose,

and I I don't know how many times I've actually

said it and how many times I've actually cut it,

because I've said it a lot on the podcast, and

I know I've heard from you about it, but I

don't know if it's made it to the podcast. I

can't remember if I've cut it or not. But I'm

pretty vocal about not liking Geneva Row's last book. I

read only because the book says she is the Queen

of twists, and I saw the twist coming from like

the beginning. It was not that hard, yeah, which I

wasn't one of her twisty books. I mean it was

it was supposed to. It was supposed to this dramatic reveal,

and it was like, yeah, it was pretty obvious that's

what was happening here. No, so we're gonna give it

a try, and if you like it, there's another one.

There's another one that I wanted to buy. But it

was almost like it was I was at Barnes and

Noble and it was like the book had been purchased

before read and returned, like the spine was broken. A

bunch of the pages were like not folded in half,

but like almost bent. I'm surprised Barnes and Noble didn't

pull that from the shelf well, and also it was

just like in the shelf like with the rest of

her books, but there was no other that was the

only book like it. There wasn't multiple copies, so it

was yeah, so I would have I mean, in the future,

maybe take that to a salesperson and be like, are

you selling this for a full price in this condition?

Well it was funny because the woman that checked me

out asked me if I had heard of that book,

and I said, well, yeah, it's on your shelf, and

I thought about buying it, but I didn't. That was

kind of all I said. And she just kind of

looked at me like, Okay, do you know you're selling it?

Are you aware that it's a stock? Yes? I don't know. Yeah,

but so maybe it's not supposed to be and someone

just like put it there. I was almost us bookstore.

I was almost wondering if someone like sat down, read

the book and put it back and I've never bought

it when you described it, I was wondering that too,

Like they sat in one of the chairs in the store.

That's kind of what it looked fully broke the spine,

and then we're just like, wow, this was okay. But

exactly that's all. That's kind of what it looked like.

And I was like, if it was a second hand

books or whatever, would have bought it, no problem. Yeah, yeah,

but I was like, this is Barnes, right, I don't

really because as soon as you see a broken spinebulies

half off, you know, maybe I should go back and

buy it. I mean then it'd only be like nine dollars. Well,

but you make sure you ask them, like, hey, I

found it in this condition. Can I have this? Yeah?

I have this, So I don't. I have a lot

of downtime to read, but I'm gonna make it work. Yeah,

that was the story. I thought of something I wanted

to tell you about. So mom and dad are visiting. Yes,

and Dad and I went on a run this morning, Yes,

and probably what a mile mile and a half into

our run, we came across a six month old puppy

and so fluffy, either like a husky or malamute type mix.

This dog was so excited to see us, hopped up

on us. Was just like chasing us around and like

wrapping us in the leash and stuff. The owner was apologizing.

It was like the best part of the whole run.

That dog was so cute and so fuffy and loved

us so much. What was the dog's name? Didn't ask?

I usually do ask, But because Dad was talking to

the owner and I was playing with the puppy, and

the puppy would go to Dad. A lot of stuff

going on. I never asked. I usually do. How dare you,

I know, go find that puppy again our report back.

I would love to do that. I will. I will

be on the lookout. I was gonna say that sounded

really creepy what I said, do it respectfully, of course,

and like, where's the dog? There's the kid? Sex my ball. Also,

when we got home, we were eating breakfast, I made

scrambled egst everyone and look out our back window and

our neighbors. I knew this happened. I've never seen it before.

They were walking their orange cat, wonderful and wonderful, and

the cat was just like like good dog, just sniffing

around in the grass. What do you mean you knew

that it had happened. And you have seen them holding the

cat outside and the cat is on a harness with

a leasha attached, the cat walking, But it's like in

the backyard, not on the street. Correct. Cool, Well, I'm

just we're keeping it safe. But yeah, yep, that was

me and Nate's original plan with Whiskey because when we

got her, she was half indoor half outdoor. Uh huh.

She hates outside. Oh hates it with a burning passion.

She's telling you something right now. Oh you can hear

her shoes. Yeah, So, just really quick, I was on

the Instagram this morning and I saw this day in

history post I believe and today, July twenty fifth, twenty

twenty six, Emmett Till would have been eighty five today.

Oh yes, yeah, so I just wanted to say that.

Are you ready poor family of Mtill? Yeah? Yeah. If

listeners are not aware, we covered the murder of Emmett

Till on the last podcast, so you can go and

check that out. What episode who knows? Yeah, we can

look it up and maybe put it in the show notes.

It was in February, the second year we did it,

so like it would have been like in the eighties.

Probably probably in the eighties. Yeah yeah, well no, oh,

it's episode one to wait. It was released in January.

That's why. Oh, because we did the murder of both

of Jean and then the murder of m at Till,

and then we did James Earl Ray, Yes we did. Okay, yep,

I'm saying it now. So episode one O eight most wanted.

You can go check it out there. Oh I just

smacked my ring on my desk. I'm sorry. Are you

ready to get into today's episode? I am shout out

to my main source for this week? I watched an

episode of I Killed my Bff. Oh boy, Okay, what

a start, and I also read a dateline transcript, which

was very helpful because I love reading them. Yeah, but

then it did get a little confusing because it like,

it's like narrator then goes to interview the narrator. So

once once I figured that out, it was fine, but

I was like, why are we jumping around so much?

It's because they're like, yep, you know how like when

you watch it, might it makes sense, but when when

I was reading it, I was like, what's happened? Why

is it doing this? Uh? So the I really liked

the I Killed my Bff episode, but the reenactments were

kind of distracting because it's like Amy Johnson as so

and so and then so I don't know if they

really acted like this, or if it was the reenactments

theatrical Yes, theatrical version. But I'd like to think that

all of the whiskey. I'd like to think that everything

they said was factual. Yeah, just ye, I like it,

which is a little flair with it. Ye. So I

have a few disclaimers to start off this episode. Okay, First,

there are two perpetrators in the story. While doing this research,

I discovered that one of them had has transitioned from

male to female since this crime has been committed, since

they've been incarcerated. Okay, so I decided to not dead

name them as best as possible, but with quotes and

with interviews and that stuff, it made it kind of hard.

So if you have any questions or clarifications, please ask I.

What I did was is I did their new name

and then parentheses their dead name so that I also

didn't get confused. Yep, yep, yep. So wrote this whole script,

and then I was doing my last little bit of

research of like the where are they now? And then

I found out that the second perpetrator has since transitioned

from female to male. Oh but I only found that

in one source. Okay, this one's a lot easier because

their name was Sarah and now they go by Shane.

Oh okay, so or the other one their name was

completely different. Yeah, yeah, yeah, so I couldn't find anything

else except for this one interview I'm like twenty twenty

four that they now go by Shane, So I wrote

it with their old name because I'm not sure. Like

the other one I'm very sure about because there's been

legal stuff that's been involved since then. Yes, but the

other one I'm not. I don't know. Yeah, that's fair,

that's hard, Like it seems like maybe we might be

in the in between a little bit. Yeah. So I'm

I'm fairly positive that if something happens in the future,

they will go by Shane. Yeah. But everything they are

interviewed as Sarah, so I don't apologize. Also, I don't

really like them, but that doesn't mean that I should

dead name them, right, so totally. Yeah. So, I will

be referring to Harley Quinn previously Corey Gregory as Harley

unless it's in a quote or a transcript, Okay, But

I will be referring to Sarah Coleb as Sarah because

all though it appears she does or they do now

go by Shane. It was just that one article and

then I couldn't I could not clarify after that. Yeah, okay, okay,

so disclaimer disclaimer, disclaimer's all I want to say. Yeah.

At its heart, this is a story of ordinary teenage

love and jealousy that ended in extraordinary pain. It begins

along the Mississippi River in east in East Moline, Illinois,

with a vibrant sixteen year old girl named Adrian Reynolds.

Adrian often felt more comfortable in front of a crowd

than in the middle of one. She liked to sing.

She would spend hours belting out songs in preparation for

a school talent show. Okay. Her stepmother, Joanne loved tear

her sing. She even said in an interview that it

was sometimes hard to tell if Adrian was singing or

if it was music. Wow, that's high praise. Adrian came

to live with her father and stepmother at kind of

a hard age. She was I believe fifteen at the time,

and it came with quite the adjustment at home. Joanne

and Adrian's dad, who I named in a minute. I

don't know why I didn't write down anyways, Adrian's dad

and stepmother. It was just the two of them, and

all of a sudden, they have a fifteen year old,

so it was an adjustment for everyone. Yeah, that's a

tough age to take a Yeah, take a teenage Yeah,

Adrian had moved from her mother's house in Texas because

the two weren't getting along. She didn't get along with

her stepdad and she fought with her mom constantly. Her

mom was only sixteen years old when she had Adrian,

so they were kind of growing up together. Yeah, which

sometimes works, and sometimes it's really hard to balance. Sometimes

it's skillmore girls. Sometimes it's not. I don't understand that reference.

Was Laura I really young? Yes, she was in high

school and she had Rory and then named Rory after

herself because Rory's name is Laura I also, and that's

why Laura I has such a tough relationship with her parents,

because she had a teen pregnancy and cut the baby

and stuff. So Luke's not Rory's dad, Oh no, no, no, no, no,

Christopher is Rory's dad. Who Yeah, yeah, like like I

don't live totally under her rock, but I didn't actually know. Yeah, No,

Luke and Laura LEI are their love interests sort of

throughout the show. But no, Luke is not Rory's dad.

Rory has a lot of boyfriends, that's all I know.

She only has like three boyfriends. And Adam Brody was

a bad boyfriend, but not one of Rory's. Correct. Yes,

that's Rory's best friend whose name I don't remember. I

was gonna say, i've I yeah, I had it at

one point. But yeah. Anyways, so with this kind of

tumultuous home life, Adrian started to act outletve me with

her mom. She had problem with authority. She don't like

being told what to do. She was hanging out with

a bad crowd, drinking and smoking, which led to three

assaults and a stint in rehab all before her twelfth birthday. WHOA, yeah, okay,

but I mean think about that. You're twelve, your mom

is twenty eight. Mm hm wow. That would be hard.

That would be super hard. I can't I cannot imagine. No.

So the transcript, Ire had said that she was a handful.

I think she was just trying to adjust to life,

but apparently Adrian was a handful, and the decision was

made that Adrian needed to move out of Texas and

move to East Moline, Illinois to live with her dad. Okay.

Once Adrian was in Moline, she had to enroll in

an alternative school. Blackhawk College Outreach Center was the school

that kids attended when the kids in the area had

gotten into trouble or had fallen behind on their grades.

It was like Tower View for us. Yep, yep, yep. Uh.

It aimed to help teens who struggled to fit in

in traditional schools. Okay, and it's black Hawk, not to

be missaid as black Hawk, because when you are listening

to something, you're like, I'm sorry, it's what it's black hawk?

Black Hawk? Yeah, not black Hawk. Oh I get it now,

Yeah yeah, It's like, why is she emphasizing this so much?

Uh huh. It was very humbling watching this episode, and

I said, what the fuck did you say? I rebounded

it three times, and then if I would have just

waited two seconds, it shows like the school written out,

but I just kept rewinding and I was like, it's

like I couldn't like Hawk wasn't even a word that

it existed in my head, and oh, what's happening right now?

They're like, we're just telling it like it is. Yeah,

I was like, okay, so black hawk hawk Yep. When

Adrian arrived in Moline in November of two thousand and four,

she was sixteen years old and she had zero high

school credits to her name. What. Yeah, she never finished incompletes,

failed all that kind of stuff. Man, that's hard, Okay.

She didn't like school, and so she just never did

her homework and in Texas she never had to. She

kind of did her own thing when she lived with

her mom. Yeah, so this was kind of a we're

gonna buckle down and we're gonna yep, we're gonna get

you your ged yep. So while her father and stepmother

were concerned about her education and getting her back on

track to get her ged, Adrian was focused on her

social life. She was a girl in a hurry, and

she was crazy about boys. Okay. One boy she eventually

spent time with was Corey Gregory, who now goes by

Harley Quinn. So, moving forward, I will call them Harley Quinn,

but I wanted to introduce them as Adrian knew them. Yep, yep, yep.

Harley really liked Adrian. They thought she was a cool person.

They started talking a lot at school, and the school

conversations turned into phone calls after school, and sometimes they

would talk on the phone for like four or five hours. Wow.

Adrian also wanted girlfriends, so she struck up friendship with

Harley's best friend, Sarah Colep. Adrian's father and stepmother did

not approve of these newfound friendships, especially with Sarah. Tony Reynolds,

who is Adrian's father, said, in his own words, I

only met her once, and my first impression was that

she was a thug and a freak. She dressed in

all black, had piercings and everything. Okay, Judgy, I agree,

but with what unfolds that he was actually right this time.

I think that Tony's allowed to have these opinions when

he is right. Sarah was the cool girl at Blackhawk, really,

I guess, yeah, I guess at black Hawk, Yeah, yes, okay.

Sarah was described as cool and funny and was always

willing to help others. But black Hawk was perfect for her.

It was small and she knew everyone, and everyone there

was kind of like family, which Sarah thrived on. Her

parents divorced when she was younger, and after that she

never saw her dad as for her mom, although they

lived under the same roof. That was about it. Oh.

Sarah was strong willed and a leader. She was popular

and confident. She was not afraid to open up to

people and was always available to share her personal thoughts

and beliefs that the people around her. Oh god, okay,

I was like when they said when I said, I

was like, what if they didn't ask, well, that would

be my guess. Sometimes. Yeah, she expected people to follow her,

and they did. Okay. At any other school, Sarah would

have probably been considered an outcast, but I expectation. Yeah.

At Blackhawks, she was the queen of freaks. Is how

they were. I don't love that, but I don't either. Yeah, okay,

So Sarah was a golf kid with the trip pants

and chains, black clothing, ban teas, lots of jewelry, and

facial piercings. What is a ban tie? Band T shirt? Oh,

band tea? I'm like, I thought you were gonna ask

what trip pants were? I know, sorry, band t shirt?

Trip pants are like those really big, baggy yeah that

had chains and stuff all that kind of it would

be easy to trip on. I assume I don't even know.

I can picture them in my head. All of the

goth kids at my high school bore them as well. Yes,

that is correct. Yeah, although Adrian and you know in

two thousand and four they were in By the time

I got to high school, they were not. You were

in high school the Arabs like skinny jeans and stuff. No,

we had the big flares and whatnot. Very jealous. Yeah,

oh yeah, I prefer the bigger pants. Yeah, they're more forgiving.

I had a pair of work pants that were skinny

jeans and I wore them forever, and then I got

different pants. I put them on the other day I

was like, what the fuck, why do my calves look

like that? And why can't you see it? So fucked up?

I was wearing a pair of skinny like work jeans

years ago when I was down in Puerto Rico and

my boss COO Vib told me that she liked my calves.

I was like, at the time, she's I think she's no,

she was complimenting you. But okay, well there are other

reasons why I thought I was just harrassing, but that's

a story for another podcast. Anyway. Yeah, that's true, but anyway, Yeah,

the Cavs they show so although Adrian had never expressed

much interest in the goth thing. It seems like she

just wanted to fit in. She wanted friends, and being

Sarah's friends seemed to come easy and naturally for them. Okay, Also,

I don't think I wrote it down, but Joanne adrian

stepmother's like when she you know, she had never expressed

being a goth whatever, and then all of a sudden,

one day she comes home and she has a band

aid over her eye. Well, we knew that she had

pierced her eyebrow, and I was like, it was that time,

It was that time when it was in Yes, it

was yes. Yes. Although her father didn't like Sarah, he

felt Adrian's transition to the new school was going well.

Two months after she arrived, he didn't since anything was wrong.

When he said good night to his daughter on the

evening of Thursday, January twentieth, two thousand and five, Tony

told Adrian he loved her, and she said, I love

you too. She gave her father a kiss, and that

was it. Tony left for work the following morning at

four am, as he usually did, so it was just

Joanne and Adrian that morning, getting ready for Adrian to

go to school. Joanne asked Adrian if she had to

work that evening, and Adrian replied yeah at five. But

after school, Adrian did not come home to change into

her work uniform to go to Checkers fast food restaurant,

Good old Checkers. Do you know what Checkers is? I didn't. Yeah, okay,

you've lived I don't think I've eaten that one. But

there they were more popular in that part of the country.

For sure. You have lived a lot of places, yea.

If not, I forget that. Yeah, Adrian was not an

angel of a kid, but she always came home after

school and she's stuck to her responsibilities as her job

at her job. Yeah. So after some time passed, Joanne

and Tony got into their car and drove to Checkers

to see if maybe she had just gone there straight

from school for some reason. But Adrian wasn't there. No

one had seen her, so Tony and Joanne got on

the phone and started calling everyone they could think of.

After a couple of hours of not being able to

track down their daughter, at eight pm that night, they

called the police. Police thought she might have just been

a runaway, as they always do, but her parents said

that she hadn't packed any of her belongings, and she

hadn't even picked up her paycheck at work. She was

only sixteen. Where were she? You know, she didn't have

and without a paycheck, particularly there was one waiting for her. No, right, yeah, Tony,

Tony Reynolds said, you know, you're not going to make

me believe that a kid, that my kid ran away

from home and didn't even bother to pick up her paycheck. Yeah,

that doesn't make any sense, truly. No. Adrian's friends told

the police that she had left school that day for

lunch with Sarah Colb and Harley Quinn and another boy. Sure.

An officer phoned Sarah at home to see if she'd

seen Adrian since then, the police said, or The police called, Okay,

have you had contact with her today? Sarah said yes,

I did, and police said, well when was that? Sarah said,

you know, between twelve thirty one, typical lunch hours. Yeah, yep.

And the police said, were you and Corey giving her

a ride somewhere? And Sarah said yeah. Sarah told the

police that Adrian did not want to be dropped off

at home, so they let her out near at a

nearby McDonald's Sarah said, because she didn't want her parents

to see that she was in the car with a boy.

And before, when I had hung out with her one time,

she had told her parents that Corey was my brother

and he's not. And Plase said, okay, that makes sense.

You know, she's not supposed to be in the car

with boys. They would that would I'll clearly upset them.

I'll accept it this time, Sarah said, So I dropped

her off a McDonald's, which was basically right across the

street from her house. He said, okay. Sarah said, yeah,

I was the last time I saw her. I don't

believe you. And the police said, but have you heard

from her a phone call anything? Sara's no, nope. And

then Sarah suggested that Adrian had probably just you know,

run away. But she was case Sarah, but she was

really concerned about her friends. So let's not get it twisted.

Sarah concerned, concerned friends, concerned about Adrian, and at this

point they are friends friends yep. Make a note of

that they are currently friends in this story. Friends in

the story. Okay, ye, the note is making me think

they're not friends. Were they lovers in the nighttime? Let's

keep your pants on. Okay, I'm not actually wearing pants

and wearing shorts. Keep your bottoms on. Uh. Sarah then

asked the police that if they heard anything about Adrian's disappearance,

to please call her and let her know. While it

was true that Adrian's dad did not approve of her

being in the car with boys, this story did not

make any sense to him. Yeah, it's not we're not

it's not Tree barrymore over here, there's no riding in

cars with boys situation. Why would Adrian be worried about

being dropped off at home around noon when he didn't

come home from work for another few hours. Yeah, that's

a good point. That doesn't make any sense. Yeah. Tony

then said, I'm never home at noon and Adrian knows that,

so this would have been something she never would have

had to be worried about. Getting dropped off somewhere else

made zero sense. Agreed, And McDonald seems strange too, And

he just in general, like could choose at McDonald's. Oh,

I was like, are you doggy McDonald's, which is fine? No,

oh no, it just like you know, to me, would

make more sense, Like we decided to drop her off

on the corner right, versus like, we picked McDonald's and

she works at a fast food place, why would you

pick McDonald's. I mean, she doesn't have to go to

work for another three four hours. Why would you bring

going to work that early? Well, I'm not saying bring

it to work, but like people anyway, Well, I'm being stupid.

And that's when Tony could feel something deep in him.

He knew something was very wrong. Yeah, for sure. And

the more Adrian's parents learned about her relationship with Sarah Culb,

the more scared they became. Adrian's parents drove around desperately

trying to find her. They also discussed everything they knew

about Sarah Culb and Harley Quinn, the two teens who

supposedly dropped off their daughter at a McDonald's just before

she went missing. Yeah. Tony then asked Rob Stafford, who

was the dateline correspondent or sorry, Tony was asked by

Rob Stafford, the date line correspondent, what do you think

about the story the kids are telling you? And TONI

said I didn't believe it because if they dropped her off,

she'd be here. Yeah, I'm with Tony. I'm with Tony too,

Tony and Joanne began to wonder if Adrian's relationship with

the two teens had something to do with her disappearance.

Just a few days earlier. Adrian confined in her stepmother,

saying that she was interested in Harley, who was Corey

at the time, and that may be a problem for

Sarah Adrian, but they were just friends at this point. Yes,

they were just friends like Harley and Sarah. Correct, okay.

Adrian even told her stepmom that Harley had told her

Adrian that they had to keep their friendship a secret

from Sarah because they knew Sarah would not like it,

and they were scared of Sarah. Or no, they were

scared that Sarah would get jealous because she liked to

be in control of everything around her. She says, sound

super fun now that you say that, Sarah, Yeah, she

sounds like a ball. She is your typical mean girl

that presents as a nice girl. And those are the

ones I hate the most too, because like, if you're

just a mean girl, be a mean girl. Yeah, but

don't be like I'll give you a ride, I'll do

all this stuff for you, but now you owe me

so control. That was something Harley Quinn had learned early

on about Sarah Colb that it was not but it

was not a turn off for him. In fact, it

was an important part of their relationship, a relationship that

came define that came to define his life. Oh boy.

Harley and Sarah had met at the mall and the

same day they ended up smoking weed behind the Gordman's

and they they were basically inseparable ever since. Yes that Gordman's.

Weeed'll do it. Harley had been a good student and

a fun loving person, but by the time they were

a sophomore, they had fallen in love with pot heavy

metal music and Sarah Colb. Yep. When Harley was asked

what attracted them to Sarah, they said, she just dressed

how she dressed, the big baby pants, the black band

t shirts, the whole gothic aesthetic. I loved it. The

two started dating, but it only lasted a few weeks.

Sarah said that she wanted to just be friends, and

that's when they became best friends and inseparable. It's never

specifically said, but I am going to put it out

there that they had dated for a very short time,

and my assumption is that Sarah kept dangling that around him.

Oh that was thought immediately. Yeah, because the way that

Harley continues to act through all this is very scary

of just whatever she says I'm gonna do, it's it's

really creepy. And even later Cepy when they are interviewed

in when they're interviewed, they still are like I'll always

love Sarah. Yeah, and this is and this boy. This

interview was in like twenty eighteen. Oh god, yeah, it's

a lot later, like many years later. Yeah, this is

two thousand and five, so I'm bad at mouth, so

thirteen years yeah. Yeah. Anyways, In fact, Sarah convinced Harley

to transfer to her school, where she had the reputation

of being very cool. She also had a reputation of

being angry, but that's talked about a lot less, huh.

Sarah wrote one day, what is with people today? She

wrote in a journal, it seems as everyone is driving

me crazy, and all I want to do is slaughter

them like the fucking sheep that they are. That's not normal.

That's not normal. That is not normal. Also, both in

the episode of I Killed My Bff and in the dateline,

it's like it's mentioned that she's like an angry girl.

But like and then they say stuff like this, it's

like there's way more going on than just this. Yeah,

like there's yes, Sarah is deeply troubled. Yes, yes, Harley

couldn't say why Sarah would get angry, but she definitely

had anger problems, and she'd get mad over very little things,

and when she did, she would scream and yell and

throw things people around. Harley grew concerned about their infatuation

with Sarah. Yeah. So back to the dateline corresponding, that's

what I'm talking about, where it's like this is all

like the narration and then we're going to go into

like a quick interview. So Stafford, who's the dateline correspondent, said,

what's what she's so angry about? And Harley said, I

don't know. She just has anger problems. Really, she gets

mad over little things. Dateline correspondent, what's Sarah like when

she gets mad? Harley just very off the wall, you know, yelling, screaming,

throwing things. Harley's this is where sorry, Harley's parents are

Bert and Teresa Gregory. Okay, so I was getting confused

because their name is Harley Quinn. But then Harley Quinn

Quinn last name or is it Harley Quinn Gregory Harley

Quinn last name and it's h R H A R

L I for Harley. Yes. So, Harley's parents, Burt and

Teresa Gregory, did not witness Sarah's anger, but they were

very worried about how infatuated with Sarah that their son

had became, even though Sarah told them she just wanted

to be friends. Yeah, Teresa Gregory, Harley's mom, Corey really

wanted to be boyfriend and girlfriend real bad. And I

think Corey, in the back of his mind thought that

if they just hung out in there, that if he

just hung in there long enough as her best friend,

that someday she would see him as a boyfriend because

he was loyal and he hung on to her. That's

not how that works. Sorry, Harley, I agree, But I

as a non mother, I don't know how else I would.

Oh no, totally like the way that the mom is

justifying this very codependent slash manipulative relationship that her child

was in. M Like, how else do you justify it?

Because yeah, I'm it is like Sarah is using Harley

one hundred persons and people like that there like there

are times where friendships can turn into more. That's I'm

not saying that doesn't happen, but like in a situation

like this where she has set these firm boundaries like

I just want to be friends, but let's be best friends.

Like that's not going to change because that's all a production, right,

Like she made that happen, right, Whereas like if it

was natural, it wouldn't have gone like that. Correct. Yep.

Harley expressed their feelings for Sarah in a letter, and

the letter said I love you. I have since I

laid eyes on you. You were all I think about. You're

the only one I felt I could speak my I

could speak my emotions, and I want you to know

I will always be that for you. Yikes. Adrian's arrival

at their school in November of two thousand and four

complicated the relationship between Harley and Say Yeah, I would.

A friendship between two sixteen year old girls began the

way most begin, with notes being passed in school. Sure,

and then Sarah went from asking innocent questions like what's

your favorite color? And what are your favorite songs? Who's

your favorite band? It's more personal things, and before too long,

Sarah and Adrian started talking about dating. It was well

known around school that Sarah was bisexual, and, according to Harley,

Adrian had become bi curious. This sexual tension between Sarah

and Adrian quickly became a parent. In their note passing oh,

Adrian asked Sarah, what's the most you've done with a girl?

Are you bisexual or straight lesbian? Which which is a

stupid way to put that. Are you bisexual or are

you a lesbian? But she said straight lesbian? That's why

I was like, what is a straight lesbian? Got it?

This is like, what is a banti? Sorry? No, it's okay. Well,

I'm glad to hear that straight lesbian isn't some new

terminy to learn. No, it's like, are you bisexual or

a straight up lesbian? Yes? Yes, yes, but she just

said are you bisexual or straight lesbian? So again, yeah,

Adrian as Sarah, what is the most you've done with

a girl? Are you bisexual or straight lesbian? Adrian implied

to Sarah that she was bisexual. Okay. Although it doesn't

appear that the two girls actually ended up hooking up

in any way, rumors still circulated yeah, and before too

long there was a rift in the friendship. Yeah, their

relationship disintegrated a part after a house party in December. Okay.

At the house party, Adrian was talking and flirting with boys,

and Sarah saw what was going on and became extremely jealous.

How dare Sarah can be bisexual but Adrian could not

be bisexual? Adrian couldn't give her attention to anyone else?

Got it to keep going? Kind of like how Harley

and Adrian couldn't be friends because it had to be

a secret. Yes, yeah, yes, okay, okay, okay. How dare

Adrian give the attention that was supposed to be directly

on Sarah to someone else? Yes? Allegedly according to Harley.

And this is alleged, alleged, alleged because I don't really

trust anything that comes out of Harley's mouth. But that's

just me. Okay. Allegedly, according to Harley, Adrian ended up

having sex with one of the boys at the house party,

which enraged Sarah and she started calling her a slut

and a whore. Harley said that the next day, Adrian

slept with another boy from the house party, angering Sarah

even more. I don't believe that stuff that sounds like

rumors to make it to make Sarah's anger justified. I agree,

but I mean I also and honestly, I don't really

care if Adrian No, I don't either. That just doesn't

sound it's yes, it sounds like I'm going to tell

people this is what happens, so that this is justifiable.

How Sarah h exactly that sound doesn't sound logical. No, Anyway,

After that, Adrian tried calling Sarah and apologizing. So this

is the other thing. I think something did happen. I

just don't think it was this. No, Yeah, you kis

seeing making out whatever? Yes, that's what I mean. Like

I she's sixteen, nude, relatively new to this town, at

a house party. Anything could have could have happened. I'm

not saying it didn't, and I don't care either way.

But I'm just saying the story that was told by

Harley doesn't seem logical or plausible. I agree with you.

But if she did let her freak like fla, good

for her. I don't really care. She can't in front

of the Queen of the freaks. It's true. I'm seeing

this issue now. Yeah. So after that, Adrian tried to

call Sarah and apologize, but Sarah would just answer the phone,

scream at her and hang up like stream words at her,

just fucking slut, No, fucking slut, You're a fucking whore.

How fucking are you? Yeah, and again those words like

if someone now at my ripe age of thirty three

called me a slut, I'd be like, thank you. Yes,

you have no idea that I go to bed at

nine o'clock every night, and I love that for me,

like you know what I mean, Like I don't care.

But at sixteen, those are such hurtful words. Yeah, for sure.

Despite the rejection, Adrian kept trying. On December fifteenth, she

asked Sarah, how come you don't talk to me. By

December thirtieth, Adrian wrote again, saying Sarah was just looking

for a way to not be her friend and she

actually did have any valid reasons to not talk to her.

After the first day at the house party, they fought

every after that, and it seemed that Sarah enjoyed screaming

at Adrian to make her cry. Hmmm. At the time,

Adrian's parents didn't know about these letters, but Adrian had

told her stepmom that Sarah was bad mouthing her and

even threatening her. During this time, Adrian confided confided in

her stepmom, saying that she was scared of Sarah and

that there had been a lot of fighting at school.

She said Sarah would do nothing but scream at her

and tell her to commit suicide. Oh my god. But

Adrian kept writing notes to Sarah, saying that she just

wanted another chance. She wanted them to start over and

at least go back to talking. Maybe not best friends,

but can we please just start men? Yeah? Yeah. To

complicate things even further, in mid January, Harley and Adrian

began hanging out a bit without Sarah, whoa Harley and

Adrian even kissed a couple of times, and Harley, being

under Sarah's spell, immediately told Sarah about it, and Sarah

and Sarah hung up on them. Harley Harley told their

mother about the argument with Sarah, and Harley's mother said,

Sarah's not your girlfriend. You can hang out with anyone

you want. She has no right to tell you who

you can and cannot be friends with. Right, you can't

have your cake and eat it too, crist Sarah. Harley

and Sarah did end up making up the next day,

but she was furious with Adrian for moving in on

her best friend. Sarah wrote about it in her journal

on Friday, January twenty first, two thousand and five, the

day Adrian went missing. Oh boy, I'm gonna say this

and I'm not gonna laugh. Okay, so you can't laugh either. Okay,

this is what Sarah wrote. Okay, stupid bitch needs to

back up off my kool aid. She's going to give

him a note. Yeah, we'll all fucking kill her. Yeah,

you're right. This is funny at all. No, very serious note.

The last part is serious. But yes, it's just the

kool aid. It's just it, the sentence, The stupid bitch

needs to back up off my kool aid. I would

believe that maybe she wrote something else and this was

like datelines way of changing it, honestly. Yeah, but they

included stupid bitch and I'm going to fucking kill her.

So that's how I know that it's they didn't change its, right, Yeah,

back up off my kool aid. She's going to give

him a note. Yeah, well, I'll fucking kill her. Okay,

Well that part is not great again, none of this

is funny, no, not at all. There there is a

real thread in that note. Yeah, it's just the phrasing,

but it just shows that they are sixteen years old. Yes, absolutely,

that's what it shows. Yes, But then something weird happened.

Sarah decided that she was gonna be nice to Adrian

that day. Uh huh. As Sarah had told the police,

they gave Adrian a ride at lunchtime and that was

the last time that they had seen her, this new

move didn't really phase Harley. They said that this was

just kind of how Sarah was. She'll hate someone one

day and she'll be friends with them the next. That

doesn't sound like how Sarah was. Well, I mean that's

what Sarah had just done with Harley, but she had

forgiven them, but she needed to keep stringing Harley along. Yeah,

but I mean, like, this is just kind of who

Sarah was. Okay, I'm gonna fucking kill you, but let's

be friends. Yeah that sounds super logical. Yeah. So uh so,

although according to Harley, this was just how Sarah was,

the police were like, what the fuck is going on?

What are you talking about? I will say the police

police officers have to investigate this type of teenage stuff.

It must be very difficult at times to keep that

straight face and to really take them seriously, which is

probably why they don't a lot of the time. And

it looks really bad in hindsight, but like when you

think about how this would have probably sounded to police

at the time, they probably like, she said what yeah,

and that was a real threat, right, yeah, exactly. So

they were gonna try and piece together everything that had

happened in the hours before Adrian Reynolds disappeared. Yep. So

they continued to call Harley Quinn and Sarah Colb, the

last people to the last people known to have seen

her on Friday, January twenty first, two thousand and five.

So police call Sarah. Hello, Is this Sarah, Sarah, Yes,

it is police Police. This is Officer Alan E. S.

Smoley in police Department. Police. Are you friends with Adrian Reynolds? Sarah?

To be honest, no, I don't like her, Sarah explained

to the rocky relationship to the officer. Or I'm sorry.

Sarah explained their rocky relationship, and the officer wondered why

she would have given Adrian a ride to a girl

she doesn't like. That's what I'm saying, And Sarah, your

story doesn't many sense. It's just like, if you're gonna lie,

keep the lie, Yeah, like for you to be like

to be honest. No, she's been gone for like not

even a day. Yeah. And that's also like they clearly

know something, don't speak ill of Yeah, you know when

you know something others don't. Yeah. So Sarah said, we

got into an argument at school and they'll police like

mm hmm. And Sarah was like, and I was like, well,

let's talk about it over lunch. She had been hanging

out with my friend who likes me and I like him,

but she likes him and we got into an argument

about it because she wouldn't leave him alone. Well, a

description of the relationship as she decides to share it

with Harley. Adrian had gotten into Sarah's car, along with

Harley and a friend and another friend named Sean McKittrick. Okay,

so Sarah. Sarah and Harley first told the police that

they dropped her off at McDonald's, but investigators were about

to find out that there was so much more to

this story. Yeah, I imagine there was. In fact, Sarah

was about to drop a bombshell. Sarah, I'll be honest

with you. I hit her. Police, okay, Sarah, Well, she

hit me back. Sorry, that doesn't help your case, Sarah. Well,

and the police were like, okay, And I think this

goes back to what you were just saying that, Like

it must be so hard for the police to keep

a straight face. Like what are you talking about right now?

I'm happy you don't know how to shut the fuck up,

Like your front lobe clearly isn't there. Yes, but like,

what the fuck are you talking about? But yet, like,

what do you mean, Sarah? Sarah, and all props to her,

she hit me pretty good. Sarah says that the fight

occurred inside her car, which was parked at a Taco

Bell restaurant during the busy lunch hour, which is not

McDonald's nor the fast food restaurant that Adrian worked at.

It's a new one. I hope that at that time

in two thousand and five, they didn't have diarrhea lettus No. Well,

I mean, I think Taco Bell's always giving people diarrhea.

We're just we're just now blaming it on Lettuce, which

I think is fucking rude. Get something without lettuce. I've

been there for years. I get sick and we move on.

We are we talking about. Okay, this is actually pretty serious,

like we're starting to get into the meat. We can't

keep talking about. Okay, Sorry, Sarah, keep lying. Okay, I'm

gonna start from the beginning. Oh no, okay. In fact,

Sarah was about to about to drop a bombshell. Sarah,

I'll be honest with you. I hit her police, Okay, Sarah. Well,

she hit me back police. Okay, Sarah, and all props

to her. She hit me pretty good too. Sarah says

that this fight occurred inside of her car, which is

parked at a Taco Bell restaurant during a busy lunch hour,

and at that point, Harley Quinn said that they witnessed

the whole altercation. According to Harley, Sarah just kept screaming

and screaming and then grabbed her hair and started whispering

in her ear, and then Sean Sean told her to stop,

and she told Sean, if you don't like it, get

the fuck out of my car. So that's what Seawan did.

In the middle of this altercation, he opened the door

in the Taco Bell parking lot and walked away. Good

for Sean. Harley said the they watched this altercation while

smoking a cigarette in the backseat. Sorry, Harley's just like, hmm,

just smoking just so, I mean, we'll get into it.

But yeah, even though they were fighting over Harley, they

felt bad, but they decided to keep quiet and just

let the girls fight it out. Typical typical teenager. Yeah

that's better. Yep. It was later that afternoon that that

Adrian's parents discovered she was missing. Over the weekend. Harley

told their mother about all the questions police were asking

him and them, and Sarah. Teresa Gregory told them, well,

you know, Corey, that's an investigation. We have a missing

girl here. Teresa didn't think that their child was involved,

but thought that they maybe knew where Adrian had run

off to if she was in fact hiding. That's very

naive of mom to not think that Harley was involved,

when clearly Sarah is uh yeah, and Teresa said, Corey,

if you haven't done anything wrong, you don't have anything

to worry about, and Harley's like, welp, yep, basically. But

by Monday afternoon, three days after Adrian Adrian's disappearance, Harley

was making an unusual demand from their parents. Harley told

their mother, Sarah's family had got her set up this

afternoon with a lawyer, and we need a lawyer. Hello.

By Tuesday afternoon, they had hired an attorney and Harley

was at the police station talking with investigators and Harley's

parents told them just tell the truth. And after that meeting,

Harley and their lawyer said Harley and their lawyer said

that Harley had done really good with talking to the

police that day, and the lawyer didn't think that it

was any big deal, just regular questioning at this point.

Oh boy. Meanwhile, Adrian's parents were still desperately searching for

their daughter, looking for clues, anything that would help find her.

They were desperate to find out something. Somebody had seen

her somewhere, if she had been at the McDonald someone

had seen her. They were so frantic they even called

a psychic. And this fuck ass psychic told Adrian's parents

that she was alive, living in a basement. Why why

across town. Harley's dad was about to realize his teenager

also needed help. There was so much more to the

story than Harley had told the police. Harley had started crying,

and their dad started asking them questions, and they started

breaking down. They started crying more so their dad knew

that something was up, and at that point all they

could do was just hug their child as they kept crying.

So their dad looked to them and asked, did something

happen to her in that car? And Harley started shaking

his head yes, but couldn't speak. Oh no, And according

to Harley's dad, the look on Harley's face said it all.

Four days after Adrian Reynolds disappeared, it was clear Harley

had been lying about what really happened. Their father, Bert

braced himself for what his child was about to say.

Bert Gregory said, did she get hurt in the car?

Harley shook his head yes. Did she get hurt real bad?

Harley said really really bad? Oh no. Bert asked if

she dead? Harley shook their head yes, oh, and Bert said,

well where's she at? And Harley continued to just stop

and could no longer talk. So Bert called Teresa, his

ex wife, and said, get your ass over here right now.

This is serious. Yeah. Teresa came over and they just

hugged their child and they said, mom, I'm so sorry,

I'm so sorry, and just continued to cry. Teresa didn't

have any words, but Harley decided they did have something

to say, something more about what had happened, and they

wanted to say it to the police. So Bert reached

for the phone. Yep, yep, Like your kid's gonna have

to pay consequences too, in all likelihood, but like, yeah,

this is still the best thing to do. I also

kind of appreciate it. I don't know if appreciation is

the correct term, but I I liked that both Bert

and Teresa were like, I'm going to hug my child. Yes,

let them sob because I know that this is going

to be the last normal not normal, but like our

last interaction before everything changes. Like there's no you see

this sometimes there's no point in the parent getting mad

at the child. No, which, yes, you do see that

a lot. Yeah, And like at this point, it's like

what's done is done. Make sure your kid knows that

you love them. You know, I agree. So Rob Stafford

of the dayline correspondent asked, how difficult is the phone

call you're about to make Burt Gregory, Oh, I don't

know if it was difficult, but it was the right

But it was the right thing needed to be done.

A family needed to know where their daughter is. Things

need to be straightened out. I mean, you can't hide

something like this. It's the right thing to do. He

needs to face up to what he did, what his

part was. And Stafford said, what's the look on Corey

Harley's face? And Teresa Gregory said, he's a broken child

at this point. He can't stop grind, he can't stop shaking.

Oh man. Bert Gregory said, he seemed relieved though, Yeah, Stafford,

think of the weight he was carrying. Yeah, Stafford, he

seemed relieved. Bert, Buddy, Well, the dateline come on, I know,

Bert said yeah, And Teresa said he'd been holding on

to it all weekend and he'd been trying to cover

up their tracks all weekend. And I think it was

just him. It was just breaking him to do so

that he just needed his own peace and to tell

the truth. Yeah, Harley was ready to meet with the

police for a second time. Harley knew that their life

was on the line at this point, but they weren't

thinking about themselves. They were thinking that they didn't want

to lose Sarah, Oh my god. Seriously, they wanted to

keep Sarah in their life. But they knew the right

thing to do was to talk to police, for Adrian's

sake and for her families? Why do you keep prioritizing

Sarah Like I said, it does not end. No, this

is it's kind of you said it was scary. This

is scary to think of the type of manipulation. How

much is it Harley's own obsession and Sarah's manipulation, you

know what I mean? Yeah, that's a good point. Ye, like, yes,

the obsession part. It's which is so like they're both scary. Anyways, Yeah,

Harley was able to momentarily cast aside the power that

Sarah had over them, and they provided police details of

what really happened to Adrian. Investigators captured every word on tape.

So this is a police interview Harley. And we went

to Taco Bell. Then Adrian grabbed her neck and started

choking her. Attorney, Adrian grabbed Sarah's neck Harley, Yes, and

they were both struggling, and Sarah and Adrian struggling trying

to choke each other. Harley gave Dateline a more complete

version of the final moments of Adrian Reynolds's life. Harley

to Dateline now, many years later, after jail or whatever,

they just started swinging at each other, and then Adrian

hit Sarah in the nose and Sarah's nose started bleeding.

So Sarah grabbed a wooden stick that she keeps in

her car for protection, she says, and she started to

hit her a couple full of times with it, and

they kept fighting and wrestling, and it moved to the

back seat. At this point, Harley said that they got

out of the car and moved to the front passenger

seat as the fight became more vicious. Harley, He's just

moving around seats to not be involved. Well, yeah, it's weird, Harley.

Sarah's on top of Adrian and she's choking Adrian, and

then Adrian goes out and Sarah gets off of her

and sits in the car, sits back in the front seat.

We sat there and smoked a cigarette for a while, Dateline,

You sat there smoking a cigarette at that point, and

Adrian is dead and you're in the backseat of the car.

Harley said, Well, we just thought she was just passed out,

so we were just sitting there waiting for her to

wake up, and then we finally looked back and her

face was blue, and that's when we started freaking out.

After that, we didn't really know what to do. Dateline,

And here's Adrian, your friend who you have been out with,

a couple, who you had been out with a couple

days earlier. Harry, Yeah, dateline and she's just dead in

the backseat of the car, and you don't give a fuck. Harley. Yeah,

Oh my god, Dayline. Are you saying anything? Are you crying?

What were you doing? Harley? I'm just sitting there. I

couldn't say anything. I was just shocked. Mind you still

smoking a cigarette? Yeah, I know that's what I was thinking,

just like like a post not a post sex cigarette,

but a post murder cigarette. Yeah. But you're incredibly unemotional

about a lot of this, Harley. I am really emotional,

but I like to keep my emotions to myself. You know,

it's the opposite of the emotion. So this is just

a reminder that this all happened in broad daylight in

a car parked in a Taco Bell parking lot. How

did no one else see it? But because the windows

were fogged up on this cold winter day. Oh, people

right out, people right outside the car couldn't see what

was happening inside. Where you know this still happening. I

don't remember if I wrote it down, so I'll say

it now. Multiple people did walk by and noticed that

the car was shaking. They they thought people were having sex.

That's I said. They probably thought someone with the seamed

up windows, they probably thought someone was fucking in there, yep,

gross yep. And so like later they're like, oh, yeah,

we definitely saw it. Wow, yeah, Dayline, So what are

you going to do? Harley? We don't know. It's like, man,

what's going on? Sarah? You killed her? And she's like, no,

she's not dead. She's not dead. And it's like, man,

she's dead, Sarah, what are you? What are we going

to do? We've never been in trouble with the law.

We don't know nothing about it. And then Sarah's like,

you gotta help me hide the body. You gotta help

me hide the body. And you know, I was hesitant,

but I told her, yeah, I'll help you out. Oh

my god. And Dale they're the idiots. Yeah, and Dateline,

why don't you pick up the phone and call someone? Yeah, Harley,

I just cared so much about Sarah. I don't want

to see her spend the rest of her life in jail.

I bet she does anyway, Dateline, you want to help Sarah,

you don't want to help Corey at this point, Harly.

At that time, Nah didn't really think I had dateline

hard to believe. Harley, Well, that's the truth. I figured

out I'll help her. I didn't know what to do anyway,

so I just followed along did what she said, Like

everything else in life for you, I was gonna like,

this is what This is the part that scares me that, Like, yeah,

he never they never once thought about Corey. Yeah, they

never once thought about themselves. They were like, well, Sarah

strangled her, so what are we what are we gonna

do to fix it? This makes me And I'm not

saying this because I don't want to. I don't want

it to get twisted that I'm saying this because this

person has since transition, But like, this makes me think

that there was some mental illness that was part of

this obsession with Sarah and needing to put Sarah first,

like and then Sarah manipulating on top of that, h Like,

I just can't understand why a person would do that otherwise,

although it also could be like codependence is in the

right word, but like Sarah's clearly abusive, Yes, like verbally

and probably emotionally and psychologically abusive even to her her friends.

Probably m could be that too. What a mess, My god,

that's so not good. Harley says, the power that control

led them here where they help Sarah carry Adrian's body

to the trunk of to the trunk of the car

in broad daylight. I I don't know the exact timeline

of this. I'm assuming they left the taco bell and

then did it, but I'm not that positive. Yeah, that

would make more sense. But yeah, so they took her

out of the backseat, carried her into the trunk of

the car. Then they drove out to Sarah's grandparents farm.

Harley says that the plan was to bury Adrian's body,

but the ground was frozen. Yeah. January, so the two

teenagers from the Heartland were about to go to Plan B.

Oh oh, sixteen year old Adrian Reynolds was dead and

now Harley and Sarah were trying to hide the body.

Harley said that they wrapped it in a tarp and

tried to bury it, but the ground was frozen. So

that's when they moved to Plan B. So Plan B

was to pour gasoline on her and light her on fire.

How did I know Plan B was going to try

to burn it? Harley poured the gasoline on the tarp.

They used a butane lighter they used uh, They used

the butane lighter to light the fire, and Sarah and

Harley just stood away and Sarah laid her head on

Harley's shoulder as they watched adrian body burn. Such a moment.

That's disgusting, Sarah again. According to Harley, yeah, Sarah started

crying and Harley had tears rolling down their face as well.

They weren't worried about anyone spotting the fire. They weren't

thinking about that at all. All they thought was that, well,

we can't bury her, so we have to cremate her.

I don't believe some of this, but okay, neither does

the dateline correspondent. Oh good, He's responded, saying, that's ludicrous.

It sounds like you were thinking of disposing a body

so you didn't get caught. And Harley priied, well, at

the time, we felt bad, but she was dead, so

we were just trying to think of the proper way

to do it. Proper way to do it would have

been to call in on one when her face was blue,

to see if they could revive her dateline. And that's proper.

I mean you dump her body and pour gas on it. Yeah, Harley, No,

that's not proper. But at the time, you know, we

aren't really thinking. We're freaked out, so freaked out that

you can have this like fake romantic moment while you

watch the body burn. So I don't know if you're

gonna be surprised by this because I wasn't. Plan B

didn't work either, No, of course not. Do you know

how hot crematoriums actually are, and even then there are

still sometimes chunks of bone. It doesn't work like that.

Adrian's body was not turning to ashes as they thought

it would, so they needed to move on to another plan. Oh,

Plan C. They don't call it CEE. I call it

Plan C. Oh what did they call it? Plan three?

Just the next one? Oh god? I just assumed maybe

AB three because that would be that's very on brand

for them. Yeah. Sarah told Harley that they needed to

get Adrian's body off of her grandparents' land. Yeah, and

they needed to cut up the body, or more specifically,

Harley needed to do it. Of course, Harley needed to

do it because Harley does things that Sarah tells him

to do, tells them to do. Sarah told them you

can light the fire, I know, you can cut up

the body. Oh my god. But that's where Harley drew

the line. Good for Harley, there is a line. How fascinating.

But they knew a guy, oh god, another boy, let

me guess, a hunter. I don't know what he does, okay,

but another boy that they thought would be perfect for

this job. This guy's name was Nate Godet. You see,

Nate was into blood and gore, and he was the

type of guy who went around killing animals and stuff.

So they knew he'd be in eh. So the next

they found their local sociopath. Yeah, oh my god. Yes.

So the next day, Saturday, they picked Nate up, told

him about Adrian and asked him if he would cut

up the body so that they could move it. And

Nate was in. He had nothing to do with the

murder at all. Why but he was down to help

them dismember Adrian Reynolds's body. I hope he's in jail

because he probably needs it. Otherwy, something worse would have

eventually happened. We'll get to his day. Where is he now?

Oh boy? Okay. The next day, Sunday, they picked Nate

up and he had a saw with him. Harley said,

what happened next was horrifying. It was worse. Well, yeah,

it was worse than any horror movie you could watch.

It was unbearable. While it was happening, Harley and Sarah

talked about music, anything to keep their minds off of

what was happening in front of their eyes. Lauren, I

hate them, so I'm not gonna he did dismember her. Yeah.

They dumped most of Adrian's remains in a ravine on

the farm and covered them with branches. That'll be good

to keep the body off of her grandmother's property, her

grandparents' property. Wow, yes, lord shrunks. I was like I

at this point, I can't even like, your brains are

so fucked. Yes, I can't, I can't, I can't. So yeah. Yeah.

Harley says that he held open the trash bag as

Nate placed her head and arms inside. Oh my god,

the gruesome job was completed. They put that bag in

the trunk of Sarah's car, and then they drove to

McDonald's to get a bite to eat. So just so

that we're clear, because I did kind of skip over

what actually happened. Parts of Adrian are on the farm. Ye,

and now they have her head in her arms in

their trunk, because those are the things that they must

know enough to know. That's what they need to identify

the body usually is fingerprints or teeth. Yeah, but then

they Yeah, they drove to McDonald's because they were hungry,

so they got to bite deep. You know, whenever I

burn a body and then have it dismembered, I get

hungry too. What the fuck? When the dateline correspondent asked

Harley how they could possibly eat after that, Harley simply replied,

we were high, and Harley added I had a double cheeseburger.

I had a lot of sympathy for Harley at the

beginning of this story. I know gone. I know it's gone.

After they left McDonald's, they drove to a park called

the Black Hawk Historic Site, looking for a place to

bury the bag with the head and the arms they

worried could identify as Adrians. Hm hm. Nate got it,

had the garbage bag in one hand and was holding

a shovel under his trench coat, and as they started

running through the woods under his trench coat. It just

kind of adds to it, doesn't it. It really does.

It paints the picture exactly as we needed. Was this

kid still a kid? Was he in a high school too? Yeah?

I think he was like maybe eighteen or nineteen? Oh

my god, Okay, But I do believe that their connection

was that they had gone to Blackhawk together. Probably, yeah,

probably Sarah found a place and Sarah found a place

and they started digging. And when I say they, I

do mean Nate, because how dare you know She's not

gonna do it? She no, she can't get like a

little blister on her precious lam. During their taped interrogation,

Harley agreed to show the police exactly where they buried

Adrian's remains. So, just just after eleven pm, four days

after her disappearance, Harley led authorities down a steep, icy

path under a pile of dirt. Police found a manhole

cover and several feet below was the bag. At two am,

police called Adrian's parents. Oh my god, they said, this

is the police. We're at your front door. And Joanne,

Adrian's stepmother, said, I felt like my stomach had just dropped.

Tony Reynolds said, it seemed like everything was in slow motion.

It's the worst feeling I've ever had. I didn't believe

it for a long time. Oh my god. The next morning,

Harley led police to the place on the farm where

Adrian's body had been burned and the other remains were hidden.

It wasn't until Thursday, after both Harley Quinn and Sarah

Cole were arrested, that Adrian's parents learned about the dismemberment.

Tony Reynolds said, I've never cried so much in my life.

I mean, the murder was bad enough, but what they

did to her after is the hard part. That takes

a sick person to take a saw and cut up somebody,

and cut somebody up. I couldn't do it to a dog,

much less a human. I don't know anybody that could,

especially at sixteen years old. It's the butcher and that's

their job. Harley Quinn's parents were also appolled. I would

assume so, Teresa Gregory. I'll never understand how they how

they could just disconnect their feelings and commit the concealment,

and commit the concealment that they committed, because that's so

gruesome it's just not Corey at all. During Harley's police interview,

Harley said that they were sitting in the back seat

looking out the window while the two girls were fighting.

That they just sat there and looked out the window

while Sarah was murdering Adrian, so he wasn't They weren't

looking happening happening right next to me, not looking, but

also not intervening. Most smoking cieran okay, bussy. Tony Reynolds

was asked if he believed that, to which Tony said, no,

not for one second. There's no way that Sarah Colene

could have done this by herself, he said, could have

did this by herself. But I'm switching it, so I apologize.

No way I would have it would have happened if

it wasn't for Sarah. Corey had no reason to kill her.

But it took both of them to do it. And

actually I don't disagree with him. Yeah I don't either, oh,

and I said, and I agree, Yeah, Like that does

feel like something that Sarah would like. Maybe she started

and Adrian was unconscious and she's like, I need you

to do it, I need you to finish it. I

could see anything like that happening mm while Harley Quinn

was blaming Sarah Colb, Sarah was blaming Harley. In November

of two thousand and five, Sarah went on trial for

Sarah went on trial, and Adrian's parents attended every day

searching for some sign of remorse. Oh God, no, they're

not going to find that. Sarah always had a smirk

on her face. She would walk in and just kind

of like here I am, Tony said, I looked at

her the whole time, but she never made eye contact

with me. Yeah, I imagine. Not coward. Sarah took the

stand in her own defence. No, she did not, admitting openly,

Oh sorry. Sarah took the stand in her own defense,

admitting only that she pulled Adrian's hair during the fight

in the car, and testified that Harley was the one

who snapped suddenly, attacking Adrian without warning. That doesn't make

any sense, the prosecutor described her testimony. Out of nowhere.

From the back seat, Corey says she's not one of us, Sarah,

and begins to choke Adrian to death from behind. Corey

initiates the attack, according to Sarah. According to Sarah, Corey

puts a belt around Adrian's neck in the back seat

and holds it like a noose around Sarah around Adrian's

neck to make sure that Adrian dead. Sarah then testified

Corey threatened to kill her, her family, even her cats

if she didn't help him conceal the crime. The prosecutor says,

clearly Sarah is lying, but Corey has only been minimized.

But Corey has only been minimizing his role in the

murder and hers to a degree. Yes, so that it

was kind of okay, hardly even to the end during dateline,

during his thing with the police, never talks about choking

her to death with a belt. It is his belt.

Sarah does choke her to death with it, that is

that is what happened. That is how she died. She

was choked to death by a belt that is Corey's

and Sarah did it that never like Harley never says

it though, just goes, well, yeah he would. They would

probably be in denial about that, right, So I just

want to make it very clear or because like someone

someone did choke or strangle Yeah, sorry, you're right Adrian

with Harley's belt. Yes, And the what's in dispute is

which one of them did it, yes, basically okay, and

they're blaming each other yes, okay, man, they really are

here for each other forever and ever. When they're blaming

each other for murder again, like, I believe that this

interview with Daylight is in like twenty eighteen. That's insane

that he that they still can't like even if it

was in like two thousand and seven. Yeah, take some accountability. God,

yeah you are. Whether or not you'll you'll tell me.

But whether or not they have the opportunity for parole,

them not showing any remorse and never being able to

take any accountability will likely make them not get parole rights.

That's realitated that's a very good point. So yeah, to

continue to do these interviews, whether it's one year or

ten years later and you're still just them. No, and

to my knowledge, Sarah has never done an interview. I'll

get there. It doesn't matter, okay. So it wasn't surprising

if Sarah had an attorney who was like, don't you

fucking dare your mouth. He wasn't gonna kill your cat,

don't you fucking there. So the prosecutor was asked what

he thought actually happened, and he said, I think that

Adrian probably said some words that upset Sarah. I think

that Sarah attacked Adrian, and I think that Adrian defended

herself the prosecutor's theory. As the girls fought, Corey held

Adrian's arms as Sarah choked her. When Adrian passed out,

Corey picked up the belt. Corey placed it around Adrian's

neck and made sure she was dead. Everyone believes that

Harley was a full participant, but the only one with

the murderer with the motive of jealousy Sarah coleb. Yeah,

and again, it wouldn't surprise me if that is how

it ended. Yeah, Harley was the one that actually ended

Adrian's life with the belt on the orders of or

to do it for Sarah. Yeah. Sorry, when I made

it clear, I forgot that it was the opposite. But

it doesn't matter. No, it doesn't matter either way. It

wouldn't surprise me either way. No, even like whether Sarah

was like give me your belt or whether Sarah's like

finish it, neither of those would surprise me. Yeah, that's true.

That's a very good point. So, yeah, I do believe

that the prosecutor. Well, yeah, what the prosecutor said is Yeah,

I'm sure that sounds and you can interchange the two

however you want. Yeah, it sounds plausible no matter which

one you put in which decision, that's yeah. Yeah, So

two ordinary humans being consumed by emotion. It's that simple.

Corey took part because of his love for Sarah. Sarah

did what she did because of her hatred and disdain

towards Adrian, her hatred and disdain towards anyone who didn't

do what she wanted. Yeah, yeah, good point. But in

this case, Adrian, Sarah's trial ended in a hung jury.

Shut up what But in a retrial she was convicted

of murder and concealing a homicide. Oh yeah, that sounds right.

I have no other information about the hung jury. Could

have been one single holdout. Yeah yeah. In a lot

of states, though, like any type of participation or even

being present during the commission of a murder, you are

also going to be charged and likely convicted of murder.

Like it doesn't matter whether it was your hands or

your belt or whatever, none of that matters. Yeah, So

it shouldn't matter whether Sarah was one with the belt

or not. She was present, she was part of it right,

same with Harley yep. But that's a hard in terms

of mentality for a lay person who's on a jury,

that's sometimes really difficult to wrap your head around. I

think that's what we were talking about with now. I

want to forget their names. The first two women we

covered with the bank robbery that ended up in a

couple people dying. Oh yeah. I think that was part

of why they went away for murder was because they

were like the getaway drivers or something, Catherine Power and

Susan Zachs. Yes, and they were on the run for

a long time. But I think that's why they were

charged with murder was because they were there. They were there,

they were assisting in a crime during like the commission

of a murder or whatever. The technical phraates are yep, yep.

So in August of two thousand and six, a judge

sentenced Sarah Kolb to fifty three years in prison. Like it, well,

it doesn't matter. Nate Gottett pled guilty to concealing a

homicide and was sentenced to up to five years. He

didn't get anything about like whatever of a corpse. Maybe not,

maybe the state didn't have it. It's like a separate crime. Okay, yeah, mutilation,

that's the sort. I can't think of mutilation of course. Oh yeah,

that's a good point. But yeah. Cory Gregory pled guilty

to murder and concealment and received a forty five year sentence.

Though he apologized in court to Adrian's family, he still

insisted he did not kill her, admitting only to holding

the belt he says Sarah put around Adrian's neck after

she was dead. After the sentencing, Tory Reynolds says, Tony,

I said, Tory. After the sentencing, Tony Reynolds said this,

It doesn't matter what they do. Adrian's still not coming home.

I usually run three miles every day, and every step

of it I think about it. Tony still writes poems

to his daughter. You were dealt to be my daughter.

I was dealt to be your net and no matter

how the game turned out. Fuck sorry, You're the best

hand I ever had. Oh ps, I love you and

I'm proud to be your dad. I'm gonna read that again.

I'm so sorry. Wow, So Tony wrote, you were dealt

to be my daughter. I was dealt to be your dad,

and no matter how the game turned out, You're the

st I ever had. Oh my god. PS, I love

you and I'm proud to be your dad. Out of

those two readings, I'll cut it together so that I

won't cry. I promise. I mean, I don't care if

you cry. I think it really has the story, to

be honest, but I know you don't like it. Unfortunately,

this hell hole is still not over what At separate times,

both have appealed their convictions. Oh fuck uh. Sarah Colb

initially appealed after the Illinois Supreme Court ruled a sentence

of more than forty years for a juvenile was a

de facto life sentence and unconstitutional, but a lawyer a

lower court judge rejected her request for resentencing. In January

of twenty twenty three, Shane Coolb's attorney argued before the

Illinois Third District Appellate Court, claiming the lower court judge

should have considered her age at the time of the

crime and the possibility for rehabilitation in the request for resentencing. However,

has she shown any signs of rehabilitation? Hard to make

that argument. If she's shown no, they have shown no

signs of rehabilitation. Well, but give it to me. Anyways, Yeah, okay.

The attorney representing the state argued the request was properly

dismissed due to it being such a heinous crime. The

Appellate Court released its decision saying she failed to show

the court impose a sentence in violation of the Eighth

Amendment cruel and unusual punishment. Yes sounds good. Oh okay,

I was like what no? I disagreeing? Okay. In December

of twenty twenty four, the Illinois Appellate Court mandated that

the trial court judge hold new sentence hold a new

sentencing hearing for Harley Quinn. Harley Quinn was sentenced to

forty five years in prison, forty years for murder and

five years four concealments of homicidal death. According to the opinion,

the Appellate Court noted that while the judge ordered a

new pre sentenced investigation and heard from attorneys and witnesses,

he did not consider evidence in aggravation or mitigation or

the or the contents of the updated pretense investigation. Okay,

so aggravation and mitigation is like these are reasons why

they should not get a new sentence A possibly shorter

sense than mitigation or like these reasons why they should so,

Like in aggravation, they've never or taken accountability for their actions, okay,

But in mitigation, they were sixteen when this happened, got

it okaypy didn't have a fully developed sense of what

was what they were doing, what was going on. Okay,

So like that, that's what that means. I don't know

what the last part means, but that's what that means.

He did not consider evidence in aggravation or mitigation or

the contents of the updated pre sentence investigation. I don't

know the contents. Oh so if they did a if

they redid the pre sentencing, so before every sentence in

a case like this, where it's murder or something that

could put you away for a long time, there is

a a person that is assigned within the court system

who is usually sometimes they're a social worker, Sometimes they're

an employee of like the county or whatever. It kind

of depends on where it is or the state. And

they interview family, they interview the person who was convicted,

like they a bunch of interviews. They look at potential

for rehabilitation. They look at like if they were released earlier,

had the potential for probation, where would they go, Like,

do they have education, could they get a job? They

do this whole thing, and then they write a report

up that they give to the judge who does the sentence, okay,

and then the judge takes that into account when they're

doing sentencing. So in this case, like this person was sixteen,

you know, they we don't they're not showing any signs

of accountability. However, they do have parents that love them

and would be able to they be able to move

back home if they were able, if they were able

to get out of prisoner like sense a juvenile facility

till like twenty one or something like that, and didn't

finish high school. But if they get their ged in jail,

then they would probably be able to get a job.

You know, Like there's all these things that they consider.

So what they're saying in that is that they did

a whole new investigation on pre sentencing to see if

it was too harsh, is what it sounds like, Okay,

And they're alleging that the judge did not take that

new report into account okay when they made this decision. Okay,

So the court simply reimposed the defendant's original sentence without

exercising its discretion to determine an appropriate sentence for the defendant,

according to the According to the opinion, because the trial

court did not obey the state's mandate to hold a

new sentencing hearing the sentence, the court impost cannot stand,

says the opinion. Uh huh. As of April twenty six,

Harley Quinn is said to receive a fifty thousand dollars

settlement from the state of Illinois in a civil rights lawsuit.

That doesn't surprise me since they've transitioned in prison. Yes,

Harley Quinn pled guilty to the murder of Adrian Reynolds

and has been in prison for twenty one years. She

is set to receive the settlement in a lawsuit filed

against the state, which alleges the Illinois Illinois Department of

Kurs improperly housed her in a men's prison after she transitioned. Yep.

That's what I was gonna say, is, Yes, it wouldn't

surprise me if if they're redoing a pre sentencing thing now,

they would have to take into account the transition yep.

In how they're able to rehabilitate in a place that

is not welcoming to them. Yes, so, the complaint claims

Harley Quinn suffered violent attacks and emotional abuse from both

other prisoners and prison staff. Absolutely. Tony Reynolds, Adrian's father,

said that he received a letter informing him of the settlement.

It is not clear in the It's just not clear

in the records whether a restitution order was entered at

the time of the murder conviction, which could require that

settlement money be turned over to Adrian's parents. It Harley

might not get it. Yeah, it's not clear, and I

couldn't find anything that has made it clear to me. Right, well,

I mean you probably would have said if this was

made public, but they could but also sue for wrongful

death and then they would just get that settlement all

like good. Oh if they didn't do that, then that

like that they didn't file a civil suit, but like

what a perfect case for wrongful death. I was gonna say,

but this is like this is still happening, Like yeah,

that's it' that's wild. Yeah, Harley is still going through

court currently, So I will have an update at some point.

I just don't know when. Yeah, I do hope that

they are able to be moved to a women's facility.

I agree. Yeah, Tony Reynolds said he remains skeptical, skeptical

about whether the restitution will apply. He said that he

would be willing to give the money back to the

community if he ever gets it. What I do with it,

I mean, I got several things I could do with it,

he said. We've done a lot for black Hawk Outreach Center.

I talked to Adrian's mom. There would be a lot

of good places that could help. I mean, if it happens,

it happens, and I'll deal with it. But if it happens,

it'll surprise me, is what he said. Yeah. The Reynolds

family has worked to honor Adrian's legacy through a scholarship

that helps students at the Blackhawk College Outreach Center pay

for GED testing. They estimate hundreds of students have benefited

from it. Oh, I love that. So. Harley Quinn has

a resentencing hearing scheduled for June tenth, two thousand and six,

and I'm I'm sorry twenty twenty six, sorry, which has

already happened, and I never found an update. So I

it takes a while for them to write opinions and

then so that was June tenth. I also saw that

it was moved back to July tenth. Still have not

seen anything. That's not surprising to me. So when I

have an update, I will give an update. But right now,

we know that Harley Quinn is going for resentencing. Based

on the extensive amount of interviews that they have done,

I don't think they will get a different sentence. Yeah,

it wouldn't surprise me if it was a little bit

shorter based on their experience in prison. Oh, that's a

good point, which I don't necessarily based on what you've shared.

It doesn't sound like they're showing accountability for their own actions.

So like, maybe not, but you can. You cannot be

able to come to terms with a bad thing that

you did and also be treated poorly in prison. Yes,

so like, yeah, no, I agree, Like I have very

little sympathy for Harley Quinn. Yeah, but this is not right, correct?

I agree? So I do hope that they and maybe

and you're you can tell me if I'm wrong. Maybe

the resentencing hearing is only to see where they're going

to be moved. Probably not. It probably has to do

with with length as well. Okay, and then it would also,

So they got forty five years, maybe all they do

is they move that five year one to be concurrent

instead of consecutive, you know, give them a chance to

come out a little earlier. I don't really know. There's

a lot of options that they could take. Yeah, I mean,

on the extreme side the other way, if they feel

like this civil civil rights violation stuff was bad enough,

they've served twenty one years, they might be like, you

get time served with the rest of it being like

probation or something like that. Right, It could be a

lot of things. So it was just in that twenty

twenty three article that I saw that Sarah now goes

by Shane, and like I've said, I was it was

just so recent and since they were already denied all

their appeals, not much as being shared about them. So yeah,

it's interesting because when you think about like prison abuse

in the way that Harley Quinn has been facing, like

male prison transitioning to female body, that's where you think

of it. But it can't necessarily be easy the other

way either, Oh, to be in a women's prison and

be transitioning to a mail body. Yeah, I agree. What's

also interesting to think about is particularly in the environment

of trans people being persecuted a lot in our country,

one of the few places where you can probably get

your transition paid for is prison. If I have any

updates on Harley Quinn going to or getting resentence, I

will obviously share them, so I'll keep my ass peel

for that. That is the case of the murder of

Adrian Reynolds. Sissy. Do you have any final thoughts. We've

talked a lot since I've stopped. Yeah. No, I've probably

said all my final thoughts. I feel for all of

these people involved. Yeah, but it doesn't excuse murder. No,

that's kind of what it comes down to. Also, I

want to just say that I really appreciate how the

Gregory's handled their child coming to them and how yes,

oh yeah, how do we know that our child is

going to be rightfully in prison? But we were going

to make it a safe space. We're going to hug

you while you cry it out, but we are calling

the police. Yes, yeah, well, and also it does ensure

when they're doing these pre sentencing investigations and stuff proof

from start to finish that these parents love their child. Yep,

Like there will always be a place for this child

to go even as an adult when the time comes.

As long as their parents are living in evil, you know, yep.

And also like they will have these visitors in prison,

they'll be able to keep seeing I would assume their

family because their family has just shown love, and unfortunately

the same cannot be said about Shane. That doesn't surprise me.

But they never had a support system, no, exactly. Yeah,

So hey y'all, Lauren Hear from the editing booth, I

realized when I was editing this that I actually forgot

to give you an update on Nathan Godet, So I'm

going to do that right now. Nathan Godet was also

charged with concealment for helping to dismember Adria. He played

guilty and was given a juvenile sentence of five years.

He was released from juvenile detention on November eleventh, two

thousand and eight, after serving almost four years in juvenile detention.

So I had guessed that he had been like eighteen

or nineteen. Clearly he was younger than that. He was

clearly a juvenile. So he did serve some time, and

on April sixteenth, twenty twelve, he died in an automobile

crash in Indiana. So he was out for about a

little under four years, and then he did He did

die in a car accident. So I just wanted to

give that little update that he is not still out.

He did get out, but he's no longer with us.

So are you ready for me to do sources? I

There's more than one season of I Killed my Bff.

Tons of seasons. Oh no, okay. I read an article

in murder Pedia called Sarah and Colb, and then I

read a couple more articles. But I also looked at

a little bit of Wikipedia. A full list of my
