[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, before we get into that game, why don't you take a moment, let our lovely listeners at home?

[SPEAKER_02]: No, but what you've got going on, you want them to know about.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, what's up, everybody?

[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, I'm Shenuk.

[SPEAKER_00]: I am one fourth of many-sided media.

[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, we do shows like my first dungeon, talk to the table, bitritten, uh, been doing this for holy shit.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's 2025s.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's like three years now.

[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, I do stand up on you.

[SPEAKER_00]: Let me tell it's crazy.

[SPEAKER_00]: Jeff.

[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, oh my god, like in this moment, I was like, wait, holy shit.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's been a long time, um, but yeah, I do a bunch of comedy acting writing, um, I'm just all over the place and trying to entertain people, uh, and I hope I do a good job.

[SPEAKER_02]: I have to tell you something.

[SPEAKER_02]: I have a story for you specifically.

[SPEAKER_02]: This is the thing that has happened to me like at least twice where my story for you is that I was scrolling on TikTok as you do.

[SPEAKER_02]: And a clip of you doing stand up crossed my TikTok feed and it was great and I was like I really enjoyed it and so I was like I'm going to like I'm going to follow them and do all of the hashtag engagement that you do.

[SPEAKER_02]: And then after I did all that I scrolled by.

[SPEAKER_02]: And can I tell you truly that two days passed before I made the connection that like you were that like the you that is a standup comedian was also the you that I have been reading in the many side of newsletter and hearing on my first dungeon like my brain sometimes when I when I like and it's a I think a side effect of being around people that are doing really wonderful art and a variety of things does not connect the dots that people with the same name doing things are the same people.

[SPEAKER_00]: No, totally.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's so funny.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's kind of awesome.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like, like, there's two.

[SPEAKER_00]: I knew it's out there doing very different but like, it's that's awesome.

[SPEAKER_00]: I love that.

[SPEAKER_03]: I, well, it's funny you say two because then it happened again because I saw you like the skit about the predictive guess who's get that you've been doing on tiktok and then like I had the same moment of like, wait, I've been watching these for months.

[SPEAKER_03]: How did I not, like, apparently?

[SPEAKER_03]: There are three genus walking around Brooklyn and like I'm so conf- I was baffled by this before my brain was like hey wait a second hold on.

[SPEAKER_00]: That is so funny and like to be fair to you Jeff I am like where like have like different looks in all those videos of like some of them I have glasses on some of my hairs up some of my hairs down like it is Yeah, I can I can excuse this this this does make does make sense to me

[SPEAKER_03]: I'm so glad.

[SPEAKER_02]: I, all of which is to say that I love your work and a variety of formats and it made me really excited when we realized that you were the same person.

[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you so much.

[SPEAKER_02]: We are today playing a game that I've been looking for an excuse to play on the show for an incredibly long time.

[SPEAKER_02]: It is by one of my favorite designers in role playing game.

[SPEAKER_02]: where we are going to invent an entire crew of space outlaws and let them run wild on an elaborate outer space job that we are going to construct on the fly.

[SPEAKER_02]: Hell yeah.

[SPEAKER_02]: Hell yeah we are.

[SPEAKER_02]: I'm so I'm I'm I'm I'm not using the word that I I almost said but as T word which I my editor Jen I love you has told me that I say far too often on the show.

[SPEAKER_02]: I'm very excited

[SPEAKER_02]: one of the joys of making a podcast is catching the things that you fall back on saying constantly.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_02]: It's great.

[SPEAKER_02]: I recommend it there.

[SPEAKER_00]: The pain of like adhering your voice and being like, oh my God, I say this word way too much.

[SPEAKER_02]: it's so real.

[SPEAKER_02]: Let me ask you this.

[SPEAKER_02]: What are you excited about in today's game?

[SPEAKER_02]: Where's your brain at?

[SPEAKER_02]: What are you bringing to the table?

[SPEAKER_02]: What's on your mind as you're sitting down to play today?

[SPEAKER_00]: That's such a fun question.

[SPEAKER_00]: I want to make a cookie crazy little guy.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean, I feel like what I'm excited about is like, a heist between two people sounds just incredibly intimate.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I want to make our, or like, I just want to be the most insufferable person to work with.

[SPEAKER_02]: I like this a lot.

[SPEAKER_02]: The thing that I think I'm excited about is getting to do that exact thing five times over because of the big thing in this game is that we are not creating and controlling one character, but creating an entire bunch of characters and jumping between them.

[SPEAKER_02]: And with that mentality between both of us at the start, being like, okay, who are five people that are eager to bring the worst vibes to a heist?

[SPEAKER_02]: And how are they going to pull off the job?

[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be so fun, like in five insufferable people doing a heist, that's that's gold.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's a movie.

[SPEAKER_02]: That's magic.

[SPEAKER_02]: That's that's that's what it's all about and that's what I'm so excited about.

[SPEAKER_02]: And so with that, let's start to build what our heist is going to look like.

[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to start by drawing cards for a location, a prize, and a mark.

[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to unveil our location deck.

[SPEAKER_02]: And what I think I'll do is just throw like three or four cards on the table and we kind of choose which of these works site which of these stands out is the one we're excited about so we've got here the solace bank we've got the quazar nightclub saloon the Trojan towers are any of the the zenith capital like which of these which of these if any are really jumping out at you the trojan towers.

[SPEAKER_00]: the solace bank yeah okay um well okay the trojan that sounds so stupid I I mean and that's kind I really love so much of this game has such like big

[SPEAKER_02]: You know, a big like a B movie sci-fi energy.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's really, it really jumps out at me.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's very good.

[SPEAKER_00]: I love the idea of towers that like, it's giving me like Trojan horse, but like we're not supposed to think people are in there.

[SPEAKER_00]: I want you to have the Trojan towers.

[SPEAKER_00]: Let's do it.

[SPEAKER_02]: I'm excited.

[SPEAKER_02]: Let's do it.

[SPEAKER_02]: Well, throw these aside here.

[SPEAKER_02]: We'll do that, we will.

[SPEAKER_02]: We've got our, let's find out who we are stealing something from.

[SPEAKER_02]: And this will start to give us a picture of like what our, like heist is going to

[SPEAKER_02]: This art where I believe I say is our correct me if I'm wrong if you've read it.

[SPEAKER_02]: I'm invoking the rare, but I believe all of this is like old public domain comic book art and it really kind of shines.

[SPEAKER_02]: We've got Lex Calerbrook.

[SPEAKER_02]: We've got Griffin, grabic, what's the, what's the vibe?

[SPEAKER_02]: Any of these, any of these names and faces jumping out at you?

[SPEAKER_00]: This is so good.

[SPEAKER_00]: This is so funny.

[SPEAKER_00]: I want to rub all these people.

[SPEAKER_02]: I really do.

[SPEAKER_02]: All of these, all of these are very robable faces.

[SPEAKER_02]: Is that thing?

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I'm leaning towards Alderhont or Griffin, Griffin, Drabak, but like who are you?

[SPEAKER_00]: Griffin?

[UNKNOWN]: Who?

[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to I'm going to I'm going to break the rules immediately and I'm going to propose to Marks because they want to do play together they seem to these faces seem to play together and like give me such a specific picture that is so funny that I I want to see what happens if we put both because Griffin

[SPEAKER_02]: business man care like every man character and then like lex caliper is like a cowboy but truly looks like like somebody performing in a casino if they were a cowboy theme like Vaudeville performer big time

[SPEAKER_02]: It's like Jimmy Olsen looking man and I want to propose like that the two of them together are like that like Lex Calerbrook is the star performer in grip and drabics, uh, uh, outer space like.

[SPEAKER_02]: building the Trojan towers which contains question mark.

[SPEAKER_02]: There's something there but like including a dirt bag celebrity is just it's the most Jeff on his bullshit thing I could possibly do.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, this is phenomenal.

[SPEAKER_00]: Griffin is giving like terrible banker vibes and lexes giving like I'll do anything.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'll do all the dirty work.

[SPEAKER_02]: I really like this.

[SPEAKER_02]: I think there's something magnificent there.

[SPEAKER_02]: So now it's time for us to discover what it is that we are after.

[SPEAKER_02]: So let me give this deck a shuffle.

[SPEAKER_02]: Let's say, I'm pulling five cards.

[SPEAKER_02]: Let's see what we've got.

[SPEAKER_02]: The last chessboard as a phrase is very, it's got, it's got wheels immediately.

[SPEAKER_02]: We've got the letters from Serenity Wood, the lavish wings, net glass, the last chessboard, the portrait of Iapdis, the Equinox passcode,

[SPEAKER_00]: the Equinox passcode.

[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.

[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like the last chessboard, because you said that first is what we should do.

[SPEAKER_02]: All right, let's put it on the board.

[SPEAKER_02]: The last chessboard, like so with all three of these cards on the table, what immediately comes to mind about the job that we're running?

[SPEAKER_02]: Like what speaks to you, what images are starting to take shape

[SPEAKER_00]: We are, it feels like we're robbing their home.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like we're like, yeah, Griffin and Lex live together like a, like an old man and a boy, like it's not a boy, but like a grown adult, but young, and they keep a bunch of valuables in there.

[SPEAKER_00]: And the last chessboard is literally the last chessboard in the universe because chess has been outlawed.

[SPEAKER_02]: I like this.

[SPEAKER_02]: I like this.

[SPEAKER_02]: I what what tips have built off of that and like playing off of the idea.

[SPEAKER_02]: What you said about the Trojan towers as like feeling like no one is here.

[SPEAKER_02]: I get the sense and looking at Griffin, Travis, hold deal as a person.

[SPEAKER_02]: Like I get the sense that this is

[SPEAKER_02]: maybe not and or I don't know if it's an organized crime outfit or a bandit ring or like a or if it's like a corporate holdings thing but like I think this is very much this is there this is there like treasured trove and I like the idea that like the last chessboard is not the only thing here but we are stealing it for a specific reason

[SPEAKER_02]: from people who have taken it from someone unjustly like my brain is going very leverage with the entire arrangement.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no, I love that.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like the, I love the idea.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the Trojan Towers.

[SPEAKER_00]: Nobody, nobody thinks that anyone lives there, but like all the rich people do.

[SPEAKER_00]: You have to like know, like, yeah, I think like if you're a regular, like Joe Schmo as whole, you don't know, like the Trojan Towers just look like, I don't know, drifting space towers, but on the inside, it's stupid, nice.

[SPEAKER_02]: I love the idea that it's like, it's a, it's a, it's a retreat for the, for the 1% of the 1% of the 1% of the 1% of the 1% and like that.

[SPEAKER_02]: And the idea, I mean, you know, it, it speaks to me very, it speaks to, it unfortunately speaks very real to me that people at that power would want their things to look as shitty as possible.

[SPEAKER_02]: like there's just this energy that like they've exceeded the point where we're garrish has stopped being appealing and so like they're like I got to make this look like try to make my nice little like resort getaway look kind of like trash and it's like totally it I wish it didn't feel real yeah yeah it's like when Gucci like makes like trash bag rain coats and like yeah this is $10,000 like that's just a fucking trash bag.

[SPEAKER_02]: I like that the aesthetic of the towers is that like they look like derelict rundown trash ships that inside are like a luxury getaway casino resort.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's that hits and like amidst all of the treasures is the last chessboard in the galaxy, the last piece of a forbidden art form, a forbidden like cultural practice.

[SPEAKER_02]: And we're going to assemble a bunch of dirt bags to steal this thing.

[SPEAKER_02]: Hell yeah, we are.

[SPEAKER_02]: So we've got our we've got a picture of what our heist looks like.

[SPEAKER_02]: We have three sections to the left of the Trojan towers is our is act one our preparation.

[SPEAKER_02]: The middle section is the execution.

[SPEAKER_02]: This is our act two and act three is the extraction to the right of the prize.

[SPEAKER_02]: Right.

[SPEAKER_02]: What we're going to do is I am going to shuffle this moment's deck.

[SPEAKER_02]: and i'm gonna draw each of us at traditionally we would kind of like go through it and find the cards that really speak to us but i'm gonna draw each of us i don't know if seven cards will say seven cards each and pick uh... between the two of us we will choose uh... between the two of us we will choose

[SPEAKER_02]: Let's see, where there's 10 cards will each choose five, five of the, I'll draw a set, each eight will each choose five of the eight to play somewhere on the board.

[SPEAKER_02]: Cool.

[SPEAKER_02]: And these are like, moment cards are very much, so they are very much like individual moments.

[SPEAKER_02]: They are not like full scenes, plotlines, et cetera.

[SPEAKER_02]: They are things that will come up at some point during our story.

[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to tell this story in a non-linear fashion, true to any good

[SPEAKER_02]: So we're going to drop these onto the boards and be like, this is going to come up somewhere in the extraction process.

[SPEAKER_02]: This comes up somewhere in our, uh, this comes up somewhere in our, in the execution.

[SPEAKER_02]: This will come up in the preparation.

[SPEAKER_02]: So look through your cards and see if there's one that you want to throw down and where you want to put it down.

[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, we're going to put four in our middle in act two and then three and acts one and three.

[SPEAKER_00]: Cool.

[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.

[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I think I got.

[SPEAKER_02]: Do you have to have one because I think I got one immediately.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you do it.

[SPEAKER_02]: I am throwing down the card replica in act one the preparation.

[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, nice because that feels like very good like replicate like something whether it's replicating the chess board or it's making a replica of like a room like something building our replica of something feels very like preparing for a heist.

[SPEAKER_00]: Totally.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I love that.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think I'll put down local staff.

[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, that's good.

[SPEAKER_00]: For the little prep, I feel like, you know, we want to, we want to come in as like little, uh, we're just like, prepare like, get jobs in the local market and we're serving these these guys.

[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I see my next.

[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to, I'm going to slap down rooftop here in act of three.

[SPEAKER_02]: Got to have a climax on a rooftop.

[SPEAKER_02]: Got to have a big dramatic showdown on a rooftop.

[SPEAKER_00]: Wait, that's so good because I think this works really well with that.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to put snipers right next to rooftop.

[SPEAKER_02]: Fuck yeah.

[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.

[SPEAKER_02]: Now we are extremely cooking.

[SPEAKER_00]: That rocks.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.

[SPEAKER_02]: Great.

[SPEAKER_02]: Uh.

[SPEAKER_02]: We'll do I got.

[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to throw something down.

[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to throw the first of our cards down on Act 2 because inside, man, that's got putting that specifically in the extraction feels like that's that is when I would want to reveal that we've had somebody on the inside the whole time.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's very good.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's very, very good.

[SPEAKER_00]: Insightman, so fun.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think I'm going to put, okay, I put down two cards, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, okay.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to put security cameras in the, in the prep stage.

[SPEAKER_00]: Oops.

[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think I can move that.

[SPEAKER_00]: We've got to know where all the security cameras are.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, sure.

[SPEAKER_02]: That's great.

[SPEAKER_02]: I like that.

[SPEAKER_02]: uh... what feels good is there something that feels good in act three uh... all right now this is good execution fodder got it for got to have some disguises got to have a moment with some disguises you got to have a good disguise okay uh... do you want to do you want to complete the act three one go for it

[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, cool, because I'm gonna do security cameras again in Act 3.

[SPEAKER_00]: Did we get them all?

[SPEAKER_00]: That's great.

[SPEAKER_00]: Who's to say?

[SPEAKER_03]: First up, I didn't realize that security guards was gonna be in their twice, so that really caught me off guard.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm really happy about that.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's gonna book in the goddamn heist.

[SPEAKER_02]: Um...

[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like if we've got replica and act one and roof top and act two and we're in like an outer space tower reinforced walls feels like a very good moment to throw in to act to that's very good.

[SPEAKER_02]: Was that all five of your things that is, uh, yeah, that's all five of my things so throw down one more and then we've got a picture of our heights.

[SPEAKER_00]: Holy shit.

[SPEAKER_00]: Well, who's to say that a crowd doesn't work well here.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's great.

[SPEAKER_00]: I like that a lot.

[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, okay, so we have got to read out what we've got in front of us.

[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to recall this hand.

[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to hide this deck.

[SPEAKER_02]: What we've got in front of us, the picture of this heist is as follows.

[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, beforehand in act one, when we're preparing, we're going to put together a rep look up.

[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to assess some security cameras and we're going to deal with local staff.

[SPEAKER_02]: Once we're inside, we'll make contact with an inside man.

[SPEAKER_02]: We'll bust out our disguises, we'll deal with some reinforced walls, and we will figure out how to use a crowd to our advantage.

[SPEAKER_02]: Then, on the extraction, we'll find ourselves on a rooftop, we'll stare down some snipers, and we will find out if we were spotted on security cameras.

[SPEAKER_02]: What a heist, what a vibe I'm already so excited.

[SPEAKER_00]: This is going to be great.

[SPEAKER_00]: This is going to be great.

[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.

[SPEAKER_02]: Final piece of the puzzle.

[SPEAKER_02]: Final piece of our crap.

[SPEAKER_00]: Not the twist deck.

[SPEAKER_02]: We've got to bust out the twist deck and we need to decide.

[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to deal each of us four cards.

[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, and we're going to choose two of the cards that I'm going to go five cards each will do is two of the cards that we've been dealt and I'm going to mix these in to our snack decks, nags are just things that go wrong.

[SPEAKER_02]: That we will that we will mix in during play and see how they come on man.

[SPEAKER_00]: Oh man, this rock.

[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah, they're in, okay, I see the two, I see the two for me immediately.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, the two twists that I'm going to put on the table are guess they weren't dead after all that rocks and At a just because especially because it's a chess board the prize is dangerous.

[SPEAKER_02]: There's something so captivating about the chess board being dangerous.

[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, wait, this is very good.

[SPEAKER_00]: Um, okay.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm because you are dealing with a a billionaire rich person.

[SPEAKER_02]: it's a mid tier neck if one of the icons on the side of that card matches the active character which it does is that we have the the the tinker or the rascal can use this as a mid tier if it's none of the above then it can is considered a low tier and it is most likely to get you beaten the hell up.

[SPEAKER_02]: I'm really like, I love jumping between the characters and jumping between the moments and doing a very non-linear.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you need to see the different like the ways that the the snags like impact each of the things that we're trying to do it really does convey Big elaborate heist movie like it really captures that vibe and I really really had a blast with it Non-linear storytelling is really fun.

[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, it's fun.

[SPEAKER_02]: I like it a lot and getting to bounce between those moments and being like, okay great.

[SPEAKER_02]: We established this here's why that happened always a blast

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_02]: Let me ask you this.

[SPEAKER_02]: What was your favorite moment from play today?

[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I think my favorite moment was probably when Flex was murdered by Lex.

[SPEAKER_00]: So they did not think you were going to kill her in that scene.

[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't think I was going to either, but when I looked at the dice results, I was like,

[SPEAKER_02]: Somebody's got to go.

[SPEAKER_02]: Like, one of our people can't make it out of here.

[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, it doesn't feel right to a high story.

[SPEAKER_02]: And if we're telling things non-linearly, getting to then go back and be like, and here's Flex setting things up.

[SPEAKER_00]: Here's a moment of Flex, like, totally.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like, Flex was the most competent of them all.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like, this heist would only have worked because of Flex.

[SPEAKER_02]: uh... that i really like that moment a lot as as soon as you described martin uh... like getting what he wanted or like as soon as you describe like him being him being our throwaway patsy i was like okay the vibe of how all of these all of these dirt bags fit together clicks so well into into place and really like pushed us to eleven

[SPEAKER_00]: It was, yeah, that was like, I feel like Martin is fully like somewhere in here, but trays the crew at some point.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, got to be, got to be.

[SPEAKER_02]: That and like him and Doc being both building towards a betrayal and seeing which one of them like stuck to their guns is very, is very good.

[SPEAKER_02]: Totally.

[SPEAKER_02]: I love a fallible character.

[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, so good.

[SPEAKER_02]: This was a joy.
